Scratch disk on drive C.

Hi all

I'm having a problem with PS CC2014 on a machine pro Win7 64 bit with 32 GB of Ram and 6 hard drives (SSD for the OS and applications, another two SSD for zero and one for storage - the mechanical drives are for storage and backup).

My problem is the scratch disk file does not devote drive even if it is assigned in the prefs, instead it goes in C: > users > [name of computer] > AppData > Local > Temp > I'm working on very large images (digital art hand drawn) @280x120cm @200ppi (22047 x 9449 pixels) and space is running on C :

PS tells me the scratch disk is full and I can not open extra files - economy seems ok (for now)... Any ideas what's happening? I work on Pro work I don't need this issue.

In you preferences, you must remove C: in the list of drives to work or move location in the list to be the last in the list. Photoshop it will fill with drive working fist before moving on the next drive to work.  Photoshop also uses user on the C: drive space when it creates a temporary file for ASR and the temporary file created when you reopen the layer to smart object.  So even if you delete C: in the list of Scratch Disk Photoshop will use the space on your C: drive for temporary files.   If you are running windows do not use Photoshop if your startup disk is low on free space.

  • Network as a scratch disk drive?

Is it possible to use a network as a scratch disk drive? I have very little space on my internal drive only and don't want to have to buy a car just to connect to my PC for a couple projects.

    Thank you!

Very bad idea... really, really slow. You would be better off having a USB3 or FireWire external drive or get an extra internal hard drive if you are using a desktop computer.

  • "Scratch disk is full" error even if we can't?

    Hello world

Quite desperate for help that I have a looming deadline for a project.

When trying to crop in photoshop, I get an error "Could not complete your request because the"scratch disks"is full". It is on a new machine and nothing similar happened to me before. After display of the drive working in photoshop options, this is my C drive which is my OS SSD and has 114 GB of space.

This could be the cause? I'm confused.

Many many thanks to anyone who can help!

Maybe wrong dimensions specified while monoculture; like the inches instead of pixels. Check to see if this could be what that past...

  • Recommendation of scratch disk

    Hello

My MacBook Pro is hard to edit videos recorded in 1920 x 1080 @ 60 p; H.264. most of my projects will be approximately 15-30 minutes long and the clips I use are typically 02:00 minutes to 30 seconds each. I heard the implementation of a Scratch disk can help considerably. I am on a budget and you want to spend about $50 or less. Can anyone recommend a good external hard drive that will have the speed and size that I have to make a decent record scratch?

    I'm under first CC on:

    MacBook Pro retina

    Intel Core i7 2.7 Ghz

    16 GB of Ram; DDR3 1600 Mhz

  • Scratch disk is full

So, I bought a new PC. My old version of Photoshop 2006 made my needs very well, however, on my new PC - which has a large HD (on a terabyte) - I was unable to save all the images and kept to "scratch disk is full."

I tried pointing to another drive as disc "scratch"... still would not save.

Turn on because the HD is so great, photoshop does not recognize the terabyte as being a real number... surely there should be a solution for this?
Yes, I have to shell out the extra money & probably to buy a newer version, but this one I have Works for me very well. I'm not a technopile. I don't HAVE to have the most current version. I'm happy with mode "if it ain't broke, don't fix.
As the capabilities of computers increase exponentially I would have thought that a simple fix allowing terabyte hard drives would be a fairly simple thing to implement... Yes? None?

What is the exact version of photoshop you have?

In photoshop, go to help > about Photoshop

Versions of Photoshop 7 and greater cannot see hard drives if you have more than 1 TB of free space on them, and so we get the message from scratch the full disc.

  • scratch disk

I treat the full error message to drive work. Because I can't open the items, I can't have preferences. When I call the reader at the start dialog box, he says he uses the 'boot' drive I don't know what it is. I tried to change it to 'C', but it is up to the start. What should do?

Read this post on a similar question:

"Could not initialize photoshop because"scratch disks"is full."

The shortcut to open items is in the second post:

«Press Ctrl + Shift + Alt keys and simultaneously click the button Edit in the Welcome screen.» The three keys to unlock and look behind the screen of welcome to close. (Or press the keys while double clicking on PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe or the icon on the desktop for the editor, if you have a.) »

I think the "Startup disk" means the C: drive.

More information can help: which version of elements, what kind of drive C:, this title, how did you get your drive working (maybe a screenshot)?

R_Kelly and 99jon will probably read your question.

  • New video editing PC - how scratch disks and media

Built a new PC for video editing.  We followed the idea of this video: How to build a computer for editing - $ 1 400 edition - YouTube video

the guys in the video are a good guy, but amd cpu is currently not optimal for adobe software. its good you went to intel and the i7 - 4790 k is a good processor.

has not changed orientation with the configuration of drive, here is a table with examples. Disk configuration

This table was written to disk, so using ssd can offer slightly alternative configurations. instead of placing cache db first on the previews/export drive, its ok to leave on the fast ssd with windows/apps/pagefile. the screenshot that show you the scratch disk/Visual sounds great.

  • PhotoShop won't boot because "scratch disk is full."

When I try to open PhotoShop 7, I have an error message-"unable to initialize PhotoShop because scratch disks are full."  Troubleshooting messages suggest the defragmentation and disk cleanup - I have these regularly perform a certain amount of time per week - but this doesn't seem to help.  I run Windows Vista with 4xRAM and 2 TB of HDD.  Any thoughts?

If Photoshop won't let you put C or D or both as drive work there may be something wrong with you OS configuration.  Photoshop only allow you to configure the mountable devices as 128GB SD cards don't not assigned as working space of devices from local drive as workspace and will not display even as an option.  If C and D are optional, you should be able to erect in Photoshop "scratch disks".  Photoshop supports up to four "scratch disks".  I have only 3 local devices that can be used as workspace.  Normally, I do not have E: assigned as a work for its disk drive external 4 TB usb3.  But I can assign my all of my local disk for Photoshop zero disk space my brackets mounted cannot be used for the workspace...

  • "Scratch disks" and RAM

I'm still trying to understand exactly what does PS with a working drive, but in any case it seems that my system works as it should. I'm always puzzled by why PS is not making much of a dent in my 32 GB of RAM but filling my empty temporary files disk?

That aside, it seems that I need a disc of more work for the size of the file that I work with.  Currently, I have a 128G SSD designated as my drive to work (Nothing on it), my OS and applications on a separate DSS, my working file on a separate SSD, LR catalog on another SSD and files and others on readers separate tray internal and external.

I work with a 32G file and keep getting bogged down. I read that the drive working should be anywhere from 10 to 100 times larger than the file you are editing - it is a wide choice. I guess that depending on the size of your working file your drive to work may have to be exponentially larger?

So, given a 32G working file (that will get done adding layers, not bigger), this drive working size would you recommend?

    Working on a quad core i7 4790K, GPU GTX 980 32 G RAM, Windows 10, PS CC

As I understand it, the scratch disk is the main memory of Photoshop, and it uses the RAM as a cache. Normally, Photoshop deletes temporary files when closing, but if, due to a power failure or a crash, some temporary files remain, they can be removed safely.

    Thank you

They seem to be down now... strange! They are a really savvy group...

PrPro and Photoshop are some MILES away in the use of the arriere-systemes of a computer. Photoshop works on one or multiple images at once... PrPro should work on thousands of images 'live' running with the changes in the on-the-spot via recorded commands (changes & effects) applied to the original media file to create what you see in the program during playback monitor. Similar to Lightroom in the 'non-destructive' type operation. That's why PrPro has a LOT of reading & writing to do, much of it at the same time. He wipes the shit out of discs & connections disc & front side bus, and other data fly around.

So... more on Page of the Tweaker, tests on thousands of real machines of the Editor (when they are up, you can 'join' and download the zip file and test you the machine clean) and some detailed comparisons of the parts of the body on different machines, they have tons of data on how it works in real life compared to the theory.

It is strongly recommended to go to one of the two paths... is a record of say 4/5 * RAID0/5 table of material * for all but the OS & program files... or split to the top of the database cache, scratch files, project, media files and export on several disks as possible, until a drive by article... and use connections of SATA II/III or eSATA II or Thunderbolt for all connections. There are a few things that can help with disks less... read media is virtually unalterable, so it can be sometimes to a USB3 drive or a flash/thumb DRIVE on a port USB3 quick... Sometimes I get a flashdrive high-speed 128 GB PNY that I use for the media. Exports are almost all write-only once again can be a decently fast drive on a port USB3.

They have a list of combinations for those with 2, 3 or 4 disks available, suggested what to put where. Hope they are soon back upward.

  • Photoshop "scratch disks" appear when photoshop is open, and I can't delete them?

I've been struggling with this for about an hour now. I walked into photoshop this morning and he said my "scratch disks" was full, so obviously, I started to search the hard disk for them.

I can not the freakin ' find.

The only time I was able to locate one is when photoshop itself was open and I was unable to remove it. I guess that's because it's the one attributed to the program that is open. My problem is that, although he is not able to find temporary files to remove, still failed to open all the files in photoshop because it is always telling me that the disks are full. I would really like to know what to do. I have searched the 1 million different ways on my PC, used all the methods I've met. I can't find the. Aren't there? I never deleted them in the year or so that I've had this computer. They need to be taking up a ton of space on my C: drive, but I can't seem to them! Help!

    Photoshop:

    Edition > purge > all

This will empty the drive working

  • Quirk of scratch disk

I have quite a few projects that when opened, keep reset the video and Audio excerpts for the same that the location of the project, no matter how many times I delete these folders from the hard drive and set the location in the project settings where I want them to be.

Anyone else seeing this?  This is something that you may need to search specifically, as it happens in the background, and we can not notice unless you have checked.

    Hi Jim,.

We are aware of the Scratch disk problem. We hope to have this resolved soon.

If you set the custom location when you first create the project, we remind the custom path.
