What is done by Firefox Sync?

While it is good to know that, "all your data and preferences (such as your bookmarks, history, passwords, open tabs and installed add-ons) is stored securely on Mozilla servers." You can share all this information on all of your devices' it really doesn't tell me what it does. He does not merge or it does not replace?

It merges 2 different lists of Firefox bookmarks between two devices? Or it overwrites a list of bookmarks with the more recent?

The used synchronization version currently always merges the data and you can no longer set through synchronization options how to do the first sync.

Note that it is always better to save your profile data locally.

  • Firefox Sync on different offices-list of sync'd data-is it possible to see what we have sync in our accounts?

Good day to you, members of the community!
Have a very small but very important (I think, not only to me) question.
It will be possible to see in https://accounts.firefox.com/settings?uid=etc what we sync'in (I want to say list of tabs, password section, session, etc.)?
For example, we have submenu in 'History' - 'bookmarks of other devices.
There I can see what bookmarks I have on the other device.

But no way to see passwords, preferences, history, active session. Will the devs introduce such features in next versions of Sync?

In addition, some possibilities to separate one single device from others? (I have 4 PCs, 2 of them I need to synchronize only the Favorites, tabs & passwords, the other 2 - only the bookmarks & tabs). Now, if I want to work with such a way, I need to create 2 different profiles for each pair of these PC synchronization.

Sorry, the data saved on the server is encrypted and cannot be read by anyone as it is a server or even outside of a Firefox browser. The encryption is done on the upload to the server for synchronization and encryption is done when the data comes back from the server synchronization that happens in an installation of Firefox. The 'key' stays inside Firefox, it is not sent to the sync server - no one has access to this 'key', but you, and it's inside Firefox stored in the Firefox account credentials in the password field.

As much as this is possible in the future - slim to no chance. To make this possible sync will have to be completely rewritten to change the encryption protocol. Something simply not developers to Sync ever wanted as a feature.

Each installation of Firefox can be put in place for what is synchronized in Options > Sync. Select all or all - tabs, Favorites, passwords, history, modules, preferences.

Separate what sync gets had however you want or use 2 different accounts of synchronization for each pair or the PC. You can even setup the same version of Firefox on a PC with separate profiles and have separate data on each profile with a separate for each profile synchronization account. But the combination you put 2 and 2 data synchronization, but 2 is becoming more in sync would have can be made with a single account. Deselect the option just data types, you want synchronized on 2 devices.

In which your question 2nd separate or different add-ons by device; Deselect the option modules if you do not want add-ons that you want to synchronize or when they are synchronized to do not what they are deleted when you uninstall an add-on on another device (or deselect Add ons on the device that you want to remove an add-on so that 'action' are sent to the server synchronization, and then to other devices).

  • What type of encryption using Firefox Sync?

Can someone tell me what type of Firefox Sync encryption encryption using on the server? This has not been answered in the FAQ.

There is probably no additional encryption on the server. Everything is done on your computer before you transfer the data via a secure connection

The Weave password is what makes this work. Remember, your browser already knows your passwords and the history of the form: it is decrypted everything in your local memory. By using the password, we encrypt your information on your local computer. Then, we use industry standard SSL to relay information encrypted to the server.

  • Accidentally allowed AVG PC Tuneup set up something and I don't know what it was. Firefox seems slower, which could have caused?

AVG wanted to bother with "Site display settings" Firefox or something like that, in order to use Firefox for my internet speed. I did accidentally and Firefox has seemed to become slower (or paranoid). I can't understand what AVG has done, and I hope that someone might know.

Here's a Word to copy Word of what he said:

"Firefox settings for the display of the Web site are not optimal for the selected in your profile or your computer Internet connection.

  • I reinstalled Windows, doesn't have a backup Firefox bookmarks (I tought Firefox Sync that will do for me) and now it seems I've lost them. What can I do?

After reinstalling Windows and reinstall Firefox, I had firefox sync with (I think) a new product key, because the former was lost. After all the steps when finished and by pressing the sync now button, no synchronization has been made. None of the old don't bookmarks links or directories we are restored. Help, please! Thank you.

You get your data from the server without the adequate SyncKey key, which is used to encrypt your data to go on the server and decrypted when it is uploaded to Firefox. When you get a new SyncKey to an account, the server is removed from all your data, so it does not fall into the wrong hands.

  • Firefox Sync issues

I have BIG problems with Firefox Sync. I have rearranged the books on the Firefox browser on my laptop, including other penetrating Mobile bookmarks. The changes would have disclosed on my phone. But nothing has changed.

I don't know what the problem is! I tried to unplug the two accounts and raise them, but not only did it does NOT solve the problem with bookmarks, but now I can't change the options for that I want to sync on my phone AND my phone will not even update which is synchronized! It SUCKS!

Is anyway to fix this? My laptop uses Windows 8.1 and my PC and my smartphone Galaxy Note 3 use 39 Version of Firefox.

Anyone know how this can be corrected?

    Hi LEAPS2HI,
Thank you for your question. As you moved the folder of bookmarks Mobile bookmarks, they then also will appear in the folder of bookmarks from office. However as they do not make duplicates I think that it can display in both files.

    1. Is mobile bookmarks file still there on the desk?
    2. Is the favorite of office yet on the Mobile device?

Bookmark management is one of the best features requested for sync. I made some experiences and when you add a bookmark on the Mobile device will be added to this folder. However from the desktop you can move in and out of this folder. I moved one from a mobile phone to the bookmarks Menu and he moved to this folder on the Mobile device.

First make sure that the automatic synchronization is enabled and you tried to make a change, and then click Tools > synchronize now.

  • Your instructions to set up Firefox Sync are faulty.

I clicked the menu button and everything ago under "Developer" is my email (JMARKSCHWARTZ at GMAIL dot COM) address. There is no "sign in to Sync. Your "Note" States that "If you don't see a sync item in the menu, you are connected to the old version of Sync." Then, there is a link titled "How to upgrade to the new Firefox Sync." I clicked on this link and found an instruction to upgrade to the latest version of Firefox. Well, I already have the latest version of Firefox, 33.0.1 on my 8.1 of Windows, computer laptop 64 bit. So, what gives? You you please let me know how can I synchronize all my favorites and homepage of my new Surface Pro 3. I already downloaded and installed the same version of Firefox on Surface Pro 3. Thank you.

It might take an hour or two for the initial synchronization to complete when you "add new device" to an existing synchronization account. On one occasion, it took an hour even when I wasn't syncing the Add-ons. And regarding the settings or preferences for Add-ons, it is rare that they are in sync, unless that particular developer add-on included this feature in their add-on.

    Just give it more time.

  • Firefox Sync error message

Hi today with Firefox 33.0.2 I was see an error at the bottom of the screen whenever FF is open. The message reads - "Sync has encountered an error during synchronization: unknown error." Synchronize automatically retrying this action. »

This happens both of my laptops running the latest stable version of FF is 33.0.2.

I am also using the latest version of sync using just a password and e-mail address to connect computers on behalf of synchronization, who has had no problems until about 3 hours ago.

If I get the above error message, and then try to perform a manual synchronization using the sync tool the message will pass to-"Sync has encountered an error during synchronization: the Firefox Sync server maintenance is underway, synchronization will automatically resume." Sync automatically retrying this action. "

Why I posted here because I tried the Mozilla @mozservices Twitter account to see if there is any failure or maintenance in progress, but have had no luck.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    See you soon.

    Edit-
Hi again just thought I would add what I use FF Sync for is simply the bookmarks between 2 laptops and have never had this problem before now.

    See you soon.

Hello Mr. News, I think that your problem was the same that the blacksmith had. There has been some work done on the affected server in the meantime. can try to restart the browser, Resync & report if the problem is still happening? Thank you very much...

  • Connect another computer to Firefox Sync

I have Firefox Sync on my laptop main (COMP1) and I added my iPhone (DEVICE1). This configuration works very well.

Now, I have a new laptop (COMP2) and plan to retire COMP1.

What is the best approach to recreate my connection to COMP2 and Device1?

I tried to use this method, but do not think it will work once I have wipe ordi1:
    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/how-do-i-set-up-Firefox-sync?redirectlocale=en-us & redirectslug=share-Bookmarks-Tabs-and-more-Your-Other-Computers#w_get-the-code-on-another-computer

    Steps followed:
Connect another computer to Firefox Sync

Follow these steps on the second computer you are trying to add to Firefox Sync.

At the top of the Firefox window, click the Firefox button and select Set Up Sync. The Firefox Sync Setup window will open.
       Click I Have an Account.
Since you're not near the device with Sync already set up, click the I don't have the device with me link.
Sign in to your Sync account:
           Enter your account email address
           Enter your password
           Enter your Recovery Key
           Then click Next
You will see a Setup Complete screen. Click Finish to complete adding this device to your Sync account.

First of all, the various devices / computers don't connect to each other. It's a game Star connections; the synchronization server is the "hub" (lies in the middle) and each device / computer is a 'speak '.

What you have described is the way to go, but you forgot a step - Unlink (prefs sync) Comp 1 before you wipe the data from it! Or disconnect your network connection prior to erasure. Either of those who will avoid the changes that you make to ordi1 to be sent to the server, so no deletion of your synchronization had given from the server or other device when they connect on the synchronization server.

  • Cannot set up Firefox sync on desktop - no recovery key and will not let me connect to get

I downloaded Firefox for my new android phone and wanted to sync my office with the mobile app. When I went it said I had an account already set in place, but since I don't remember the information about this I just ended up changing the password so I could identify and then deleted the entire account.

I have advanced and set up a new sync account, but he never gave me a recovery key. I don't think not that anything like that, but then the failure of the initial synchronization and I got an error message indicating the user name or password is incorrect.

This happened twice and every time I went back and was over by resetting the password or deleting the whole account. But whenever I have go through the steps of creating another account never gave me a recovery key.

I looked around and I tried following the steps to get a recovery key, but I don't have the ability to manage my account (perhaps because it was never entirely created and never went through an initial synchronization?) and I get an error message indicating the user name and password is incorrect, whenever I try to go through the steps to reset the recovery key. This is despite the fact that I can connect with the same credentials on the page of Firefox sync - for some reason any he just does not accept the normal browser sync tab.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and 13.0.1 Firefox version. No matter what help you can give me would be most appreciated as this has been driving me crazy for the last hours I'm trying to work through this.

    Hello

Please see this for more details about the recovery key. You can also try to start over again using these steps (three parts): https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-set-up-firefox-sync

If you are able to connect to the synchronization site which means the account still exists. In this case, you can try to delete the account, wait a few minutes and then try to configure the synchronization as described in the previous link.

  • Versions of Firefox Sync for stable, beta and aurora

I think of experimenting with the string "Aurora", but before I got what I need to confirm how Firefox Sync will work on several channels.

During the development of synchronization and in previous versions as an add-on stand alone the synchronization version could be incremented and all synchronization clients will need to be updated to match before synchronization work properly again. Now that synchronization is built into the product the product you may not necessarily be updated only the sync portion to match.

I'm likely to have problems with the sync if I'm running the beta channel (work/home, office computers) but aurora on my Android? I don't want to be forced to move to the same channel on all devices, just to keep my data synchronized.

Y at - it somewhere that the status of synchronization across different versions/channels is documented?

Is there a plan to maintain compatibility?

The synchronization version should not change once again, as it happened a few times in the fall of 2010 and in the beginning of the winter during the development of synchronization as part of Firefox vs. being just an add-on for 3.5 and 3.6.

I used Firefox Sync successfully on Firefox 3.x and 4.x. This problem is related to Firefox 5.1? What should I do to fix this?

    Hello!

You don't need Firefox 4, the extension. Just uninstall it and run as usual.

At the time when your system does not use the extension of Firefox Sync more and is it is true that it should be transparent, we see some cases where expansion is causing malfunctions like yours.

Let me know if you still have questions, and I will do my best to help you.

  • Firefox sync for several private aircraft, or is it a public utility?

I'm looking for tools that have the utility with two classes of devices for synchronization. I don't want all my favorites "imported" on public devices at all times, I want to just access.

    Hi Jonathan,.

If I understand your question, you want to access your Favorites in public computers through synchronization.

As you mention, at this point, Firefox Sync aims to share or import your information to navigate your own devices (desktop or mobile), the most secure and private way.

You could always clean all your data once you are done with the computer you are using, but I presume that it is not what you are looking for.
