Security internet and Windows 7 Upgrade

As a HP 9180 recent buyer, I also bought the package of Norton Internet Security 2009 for three years. I'm more than a little twisted to discover that NIS 2009 may / may require an upgrade to protect my computer from viruses and malware. Why didn't HP mention this when the option for the security software was offered? Surely, if I had known that this possibility I wouldn't have spent extra for three years.

Is there anything for HP to present their cusomers about their obsolete defacto possiibly commercialization of security software?

Thank you.

Curve

There is a very simple answer to what you state.

You access the symantec web site and that you have a current subscription, you are entitled to FREE upgrade to NIS 2010 that works on vista and windows 7.

    Two different programs, is Security essentials and windows defender? They collide

    Yes, 2 different applications. Defender is anti-spyware only and Security Essentials has antispyware and antivirus. Windows Defender is useless if you use Microsoft Security Essentials, given that the built-in anti-spyware component and allows you to disable Windows Defender by design.

    Hi all

    I found answers to my question on "Windows 7 Help Forums" http://www.sevenforums.com/> and a program to recreate and fix all the original Windows 7 hubs and symlink [attributes and security properties (full)], called 'Junction box' [site Web of Documentation: http://iwrconsultancy.co.uk/junctionbox>; and the download Web site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/junctionbox/?source=dlp>].

    I also found that there are more original than those listed above junctions.  My advice is to remove all the junctions, you could have recreated manually (or move them to your backup drive) before running "JunctionBox.exe" (using its configuration file "DefaultJunctions.ntj").  Then run it two or three times; because it is not recreate all the original joints the first time you run it.  It recreates the together the legacy of windows (see below), by default (C:\Users\Default), all users (C:\Users\All) and the current user (C:\Users\%UserName%), junctions on the first throw, but not the junctions of temp (C:\Users\Temp) and their targets. - you must re-create the junction target temp manually, yourself, if you want them to run.

    Here is MY updated 'Junction Box' 'DefaultJunctions_2.ntj' list of configuration files (list of all the original Windows 7 junctions):

    ; ===(Start of List) =.

    ; A list of the standard set of junctions in Vista and Windows 7, for the purpose of repair.
    ;
    ; The notation is as follows:
    ;  Section headers are userprofile-records unless otherwise noted by a full path.
    ;  Paths starting with a-specify a full path to the system root. (Usually C:\)
    ;  Starting paths by are relative to the container profile. (Usually C:\users)
    ;  Location paths and junction target are compared to [value] section header without qualifier.
    ; Default profile settings apply to all generic users when profiles are repaired.
    ; You can add sections for specific users, if it is not normally necessary.
    ; Wildcard characters or macros other that those listed above are not allowed.
    ; Junctions will be created using the target-full paths, regardless of the values relative or complete here.
    ; Note: Non-English speaking users will need to create their own file, sorry.

    [General]

    ; Displays warning if incompatible OS or system-language is found.
    OSVersions = WIN_VISTA, WIN_7, WIN_2008, WIN_2008R2, WIN_LONGHORN
    OSLanguages = 0409, 0809

    ; Force the creation of junctions in system or user files, or both.
    ; = 1 recreates (parts of)-structure of profile folders missing. Relatively safe to use.
    ; = 2 strength deletes any file, folder or the junction occupying the location target.
    ; -valuable when it comes to corrupt junctions, but use them carefully because may delete data.
    ; Default value is to leave alone the existing junctions and add only those missing, but set correct permissions on all.
    SystemForceCreation = 0
    UserForceCreation = 0

    ; The following sections refer to disk files and necessary for each, junctions as JunctionName = JunctionTarget.

  • Disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail and problems with the Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows updates.

    Original title: Windows Live Hotmail only opens a new window links e-mail composition!

    I recently put my Windows Live Hotmail account to my default e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP SP3 System. Unfortunately, whenever I click on a link to e-mail on a Web page to open a new message, Hotmail tells me, "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with Hotmail right now", and a new/compose message window does not open. I disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail, which fixed the problem. However, when I went to do a manual update of Windows, I am nailed with a Trojan horse! Apparently, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials have been affected by turning off HTTPS in Hotmail! It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now. If anyone can give me a solution (in simple terms), I would appreciate it!

    Thank you

    Hi Ryan,

    1. you receive messages or error codes when you access Windows updates?

    2. what happens exactly with the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials?

    About the update of Windows, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials issues, you may try to launch the FixIt and see if it helps:

    The problem with Microsoft Windows Update is not working

    Method 2:

    You can also refer to article and perform a full scan on your computer by using the Microsoft Safety Scanner.

  • ProBook 650: Drive Partitions and Windows 10 upgrade

    Hello

    I'm here to find some information on Windows 10 because I want to upgrade my system, now it's Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). I downloaded the Windows ISO 10N Pro yet and before doing the upgrade, I'll create a complete backup of my drive using Macrium Reflect.

    I have now four partitions:

    1. Active NTFS, 500 MB system
    2. (: C) primary NTFS
    3. (: D) HP Recovery - NTFS primary
    4. (:) E HP Tools - primary NTFS

    In which partition Windows 10 installs?

    I have to choose, or it's an automatic installation?

    I should delete some of the partitions?

    W10 upgrade will remove one or more partitions?

    Thank you very much for your help!

    PS: how to check if the driver are compatible with W10?

    I upgraded to win10 of many PC Win7 - and everyone had some issues that needed to be overcome.

    Your plan to make an image with MR backup is the best approach, because, although Microsoft says that there is no risk in the upgrade of Win10, because they allow you to believe that you can always go back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack feature turned out to be unreliable - and when it fails She can let the machines in a corrupt State - which is not always the case, it happens often enough to be a problem, but you will get no warning beforehand that he goes to the trash your PC!

    With regard to your questions:

    (1) installation partition: you already have 4 partitions at a higher level, so unless your drive is formatted in GPT (which is probably isn't), you WON'T get a meaningful choice about where to install Win10, because only the C: partition will be enough space.

    (2) deletion of partitions: while you can migrate HP tools stuff it into the C: partition and then delete HP_TOOLS, which really won't help much because this space is much too small to be useful.

    (3) with the recovery partition.  Don't count on that it works. The Win10 upgrade is known, in some cases, corrupt the partition of recovery that are stored by the OEM that built the original machine.  It's pretty much guarantee that no HP recovery will work. Thus, based on the recovery of Win7 partition back to Win7 is a mistake.

    Your backup of Mr. is safest and most reliable way to have a backup plan to return to Win7.  You do not mount the image to a restoration, instead, you start from media that you have created using MR, connect the external hard drive and then use the restore option to select the backup that you did.  So, be sure to exercise the option MR to create bootable media, you will need later to do a restore.

    Good luck

  • Loss of Internet and Windows features limited after a clean install of Windows 7

    Hi all

    Here's a bit of context. I had an additional Lenovo T410 sitting around, so I tried restoring it to its "factory condition" by a start-up "format". Plan was to boot from the CD drive and reinstall Windows 7 (32 bit) in the process. However, disaster, after the process complete, I'm now stuck in a kind of safe mode (everything is bigger than usual) and the computer is running several pilots. I manually installed the network card driver (can identify networking but cannot connect to the internet). Device Manager still shows device Base system, controller, Ethernet, Serial Port PCI, PCI Simple Communications Controller and unknown to be updated device drivers.

    My goals here are to 1) restore internet connectivity and 2) make all the features of Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Thank you for any input!

    * Virtual H.o.t. If you stuck with me through this whole explanation.

    Lenovo.com connect on another computer, click Help, enter your computer type and download the network drivers for your machine. Then return to the page to download the driver to your computer and download ThinkVantage System Update. Run this and it will update automatically the rest of your hardware drivers (see the post of Zoltan, above).

  • Recovery of Switch 10 Acer and Windows 10 Upgrade

    Hello
    I am interested in the recovery partition on my Acer Switch 10 will also become Windows 10 or it will stay spirit default Windows 8.1 with Bing?
    Also if I use Acer recovery to create factory USB with Windows 8.1 with Bing or upgraded Windows 10 Home version?

    If he stays with Windows 8.1 with Bing after upgrade can somehow pass this recovery partition to gain 10 or?

    Thank you

    He will stay with windows 8.1 and Bing and nope, impossible to pass the recovery of USB media for windows 10.

    The only thing you can try to create is an image of the system (after upgrade windows 10) for use with a windows 10 recovery or installation disk.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Dedender

    can someone tell me if I can use Windows Defender with Microsoft Security essentials

    Ah, I was wrong. Although the version linked to this article is from 2007 and as such is probably much obsolete. In any case, as you pointed out, they cannot work together and Security Essentials outperforms it far in the protection against threats.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender works not together

    I've recently switched to Microsoft Security Essentials, I it works on Windows Vista, but now Windows Defender is turned off.  If I try to 'start' Defender window freezes and it keeps just who goes back to the window where I would start from.  These two programs are not compatible?

    If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.

    Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and it automatically disables the version of Vista in Windows Defender.

    Hi Neal,

    After going through the newspapers of the SFC scan, it says that all the files were repaired successfully.

    Reset the default themes and check registry entry then.

    Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • MS Security Essentials and Windows Defender

    Is pat MS Security Essentials Windows Defender?  I plan to uninstall my current antivirus and Security essentials installation to see if it has less impact on the performance of the system.  I disabled Windows Defender, based on the recommendation of Windows to have only 1 race AV.  The computer I'm using has only 1 GB of memory.  I also use Ready Boost.

    Yes, Security Essentials has its own component antimalware software. In my view, that it will disable WD when you install MSSE. WD is not an antivirus but MSSE includes a component antivirus. If possible, consider adding at least 1 GB of RAM and you will see an improvement in net performance. I buy my RAM from Crucial . MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

Both are 32-bit operating systems. It's very strange that the x 86 systems wet program files missing. Can someone tell me why this happened and how to get the x 86 systems back. I did the repair restoration and even did a complete reinstall with a new hard drive on windows 7. All programs go into 1 file and will work properly from there.
