Selective-numbering of pages in an InDesign book

Hello
I have a question which I hope you experienced users can have an easy solution.
Ive finished my book in the form of indesign documents, chapters, presentations etc. and have created a 'book' in order to compile these in the order and to reset automatically and be sequential page numbers (see image).

However, two of these documents, I don't want to paging and want the 'Sample_Introduction' to start numbering from 1, however do not know how to disable the numbering of these two documents.
The two documents are "Sample_FrontPages" (document contains the sheet before, the copyright page, and the title page) and the "Sample_EndPage" (contains a single page left hand).

Or do I need to compile the book without my non paged numbered documents, given that I'll need to produce a PDF finally this is why I have kept all the relevant documents in a 'book' in the first place.

Thanks a lot for research
Luke

PS.

Another question, I need to produce a PDF for printing black and white, but my Indesign documents contain different colors throughout.  It will be a problem if my working profile is CMYK?

Sample_Kalikana_Book.JPG

It's simple.

On the chapter you want to:

Go to the Menu layout / numbering & Section options / the box start Section: check the option Start Page Numbering At: 1

After that, the other chapters will be be numbering by this chapter.

Be happy.

  • How can I add two pages just before page 7 of the book, which will change all the page numbers that follow?

    Hello

    I'm close to finishing a book of 257 pages.  All pages are numbered automatically down, and I spent a few weeks carefully constructed an Index at the end of the book that has all the right page numbers listed for everything.  So whatever I do, I can't change my page numbers.

    But at this late stage, I would like to add a few epigraphs (quotations) in four or five places (I just got this idea today, I'm afraid).

    Is it possible to add a few pages here and there (I will add two pages at a time, I know, or he'll hit all the pages that follow, half of them designed to be left, and half designed to be on the right - off) that are not numbered, and that will not affect the numbering of the following pages?

    Kind regards

    Malcolm

    It is not Automatic way. If you are ready to have unnumbered pages which are not included in the number of pages, you can, for each page the inserted value

    (1) select the first page after the pages will be added

    (2) in the menu pages palette, use the Options Section and number and the page number of started with the value what it is already. In this way, adding pages will not affect the numbering.

    (3) in order to avoid conflicts with the new pages page number, set their numbering on something else as 1,2,3. (as i, ii, iii, for example)

    For later use, you can configure your index with the indexing of InDesign tools, if a false problem, as you would have been able to add the pages and then re - automatically generate a correct index.

  • Is it possible to have an index in a book link/cross references pages in a second book?

    I wrote a 450 page manual (file * .indb, CS6) and creates a workbook companion separated for use with the manual. I want a clue or a schema contained in the workbook to reference pages in the main manual (so I can regenerate the workbook index when there are changes in the manual). Is this possible, and if so, how should I do this? Thank you.

    Hi Wilderness08,

    Yes, you can indeed do.

    As you are already using an InDesign book file. You can add the InDesign companion workbook file as the last file in the Panel book. This document can have its own page of document, numbering, which makes part of the directory allows you to generate an Index or Table of contents that come from the rest of the publication.

    • Make sure you only for the table of contents, in the companion workbook, you have not used the same "position" styles that you use in the rest of the publication to generate the table of contents.
    • Set the Style of table of contents in your workbook Companion (layout > Table of contents Styles) and select the "include book Documents".
    • When generate you the Index, select it "book include" to include the other documents index entries.
    • To publish the workbook companion only, select the InDesign file inside the book panel and choose Export selected as PDF document.

    Hope this helps,

  • Help to the numbering of pages

    I have a 96 page book that must have the numbering (installation in Master pages) start with page 11. It's really just for the final product, not for the organization. I tried a few things, but now have a messy configuration with mixed numbers with Roman numerals. Can I reset the page numbers so I can start cleaning up? I tried to choose the first page and numbering here, but with duplicates, I can't make it work.

    I also have a table of contents, then maybe I should be a link there?

    And then how to start numbering with page 11 being #1?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

  • Problems of pagination for the file InDesign book

    I'm working on an e-book. I need all the chapters first on their own page, then I broke my original document in separate chapters and created an InDesign book file.

    FYI, I work in CS5.5

    I have read/seen information about pagination for a book file and I put in place so that the numbering of the pages 'continues the previous document. But each chapter, I bring you, begins with page 1 in the file book (instead of continue). No matter what I tried, I just can't get the numbering to flow continuously through the book.

    Would not be a big problem, since my e-book will not have the numbers, but when I save this file book as an ePub, which converts a single chapter (depending on which is the source of style) - not the entire book with several chapters.

    Can someone help me understand what goes wrong?

  • InDesign book, synchronization, opening a single file

    Re: IDCC

    Question 1

    One of the .indb files I created has about 20 + individual .indd files. Whenever I have an amendment to a single .indd and then save it, .indb automatically starts a synchronization process and I can't do anything until it is complete.

    I like to leave the file open book when I'm working, but this automatic synchronization impeded my work process.

    Is it possible for me to stop the automatic synchronizaton?

    I looked at different areas of the program, and if the option is present, have neglected and I also looked in the help, and if it's there, I missed it there, too.

    Question 2

    Quite often, when I try to open a single document in a book, ALL the individual documents of open book.

    What steps should I take to make sure I have as a single document in a book and not accidentally open each of them?

    Thank you

    1,

    In the Panel menu book (upper-right of the Panel book) you can choose 'Book Page Numbering Options... '. »

    And disable automatic updates.

    2.

    Make sure that you have only one selected file. Sometimes if you have several files selected and open a file from the book panel will open all selected files.

    Take your time in selecting the document in the Panel - and carefully double-tap.

    How to do a two-page spread in photo books?

    Hi Myrte Veach,

    If you want to add pages to your photo book project, please follow the steps below.

    Add, remove and rearrange the pages of book

    You can add, remove, or reorder pages from the book. You can insert new pages anywhere in a book, except between the cover on the outside and the inside cover page.

    Note: A book must have an even number of pages. If the change in the number of pages creates an odd number of pages, Photos automatically adds or removes a blank page to keep the number of pages to an even number.

    Click project on the toolbar, and then double-click the book.

    Do one of the following:

    Add a page: select the page you want the new page to follow, and then click Add a Page in the toolbar and choose Add a Page.

    Set the number of pages in a book: click on the book settings button in the toolbar and drag the number of Pages.

    Remove a page from a book: click on the page to select and press DELETE, or click on the button Add a Page in the toolbar, select the Page to delete, then click on continue. You can also click on the page, select the Page to delete, then click on continue.

    Move a page in a book: rest the pointer over a page number until the page button, and then drag the button on the page to move the page to a new location. You can also select a page, and then drag the button to the page.

  • What is the best format to import to an indesign book files

    I am reproducing a family cookbook and will place small blows to head to their family members or their children next to the recipe.  I intend to scan and import about 150 pages of the ancient book of recipes and use the pages but will place photos, adjacent to the recipe.

    I tried this with indesign cs3 import pages as PDF and ran into memory important problems and have now upgraded to cs6 but would make good sense for the first time.

    So bottom line: if import a large number of scanned documents is it better to analyze as JPEG or PDF files or is there a better way.

    You have Acrobat Pro? If so, I'd run all these pages however scanned OCR and conversion of text before placing them.

    But I wonder what you are doing that you are out of memory because placed images (as opposed to glued or placed and nested) must use only enough space for the pointer on the image and a preview of the screen. What resolution did you use to scan pages? What color mode? Which was exactly the memory problem you experience?

    Regarding the image format, you should see the same size of file that you use tif, jpeg, PDF or psd to your images if all other factors are the same.

    Normally, when you open the page palette in InDesign, it is divided into two. The upper part is where is the master page (and a page named none), while the lower part is where are the actual pages of documents. Unfortunately when I opened my palette (InDesign CS 6 on a Mac), there is no upper and lower part of the page-only the lower part is displayed. When I put my cursor on my pages, it tells me that I "Applied A-master".

    Why not my top shows (A-master and none)? The pages that I don't "Act" like master pages - for example, I can't get past page numbering.

    Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

    It looks like the upper part may be in a State reduced - the line was pulled up.

    Just of the cursor on the line that separates the upper and lower sections, and drag it to the bottom.

  • Selection of additional pages

    Is there a way to allow a user to add additional pages using something like a drop-down list?  I want to create a form with a first standard page and a drop-down menu at the bottom that they can use to add more pages (pre-made).

    For example, the first page of the inspection report is standard, but the following pages have image fields in tables that are 2 x 2, 2 x 3, 1 x 1, etc..  I would like to be able to allow the user to choose the right page in a list according to your needs.

    Is it still possible?

    Of course, but he would not be adding pages by saying. View more hidden. What I do in this case, is to add all the pages that I think that the user must then either use the Action Builder or a javascript to display the relevant pages. Thus, for example, if you use the Action Builder, you can select your drop-down box and then when a certain value is selected, display the page so that the remaining hidden. If you are using page numbers, in the custom object library there is a "page n m" that you can add and it will automatically update the page numbers.

  • Export documents within an InDesign book in a single PDF file

    I have several documents within an InDesign book. Is there a way that they can be exported in a single PDF file?

    Here is the script I use:

        for (var i = 0; i < data.chapters.length; i++)
           {
                show_list.children[0].selection = i; show_list.show ();

                DocName = data.chapters[i].name;

                app.open (data.chapters[i], false);

                f = new File (data.chapters[i].fullName.replace (/indd$/, "pdf"));

                app.pdfExportPreferences.pageRange = PageRange.allPages;
                app.documents.itemByName(DocName).exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, f, false, data.preset);
                app.documents.itemByName(DocName).close(SaveOptions.no);
           }

    The script will export to the PDF format, but each document is a separate PDF file.

  • How to make tabs see the place selectively in different pages?

    Hello

    I'm new to APEX and get my hands dirty now...

    I have a standard set of tab called 'TS1', which has 2 tabs (say tab1 and tab2). Because the tabs are under "shared component", it seems that they are broadcast in all of 10 pages that I have.

    How can I make the tabs appear selectively on different pages? For example, I want tab1 and tab2 showing upwards to page1-9, but NOT on page10. There is a 'conditions' (Type of Condition), but it has many types and I do not know how to use it.

    Please kindly help!

    Thank you very much
    Helen

    Helen:

    Select "current page is contained in Expression... "for the Type of Condition
    and then enter the page numbers whose tab is to the field of "Expression".
