• Drop-down list that generates text in a separate text box

  Hello world.

  First of all, I don't know if this is even possible, but if someone can think of a way to make it work, please let me know.

  So, that's what I'm trying to achieve:

  1. Form with several drop-down menus.
  2. A user is working through the choice of subjects of drop-down menus
  3. Each topic has an export value which is a line of text
  4. (now, that's where I get lost) The value of exports is then combined in a long single line of text and put on the same pdf in its own text box.

  The objective is that the user can select each relevant topic and line of text is created, and then the user can copy it for their use.

  Is this possible? If so, does anyone have an idea how to do something like that?

  Of course, and it's actually pretty easy. Let's say you set up all the values in the export of all items in your boxes (call them Checkbox1, Checkbox2, etc.), and that you have put in place a multiline text field. You can then use this code as the custom of this text field calculation script:

  Event.Value = this.getField("Checkbox1").value + "\n" + this.getField("Checkbox2").value + "\n" + this.getField("Checkbox3").value + "\n" + this.getField("Checkbox4").value;

  And that's all. The value will be updated automatically when a selection is made in one of these boxes.

• Several list drop-down menu items to fill the area of separate text even. How can I do?

  Acrobat x Pro, I have figured out how to create a dropdown menu with items that will populate a separate text box, but how do I get several menu items to fill the text box. For example. My menu has three items, cat, dog, mouse. I choose the cat and it appears in the separate text box (hooray). Then I choose "dog" in the same menu. I would like it to appear in the text box even my previous selection 'chat '. Is this possible? I am very new to JavaScript, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

  Well, if your 'chapter' and your 'jon doe' is in the separate text boxes, then there is no easy way to do it. (You could draw a bunch of lines dotted, which isn't difficult, but the only way to standardize manually drag the lines around).

  However, if "chapter" and "jon doe" is in the same text box, separated by a tab character, then it is quite easy. Have you used a ruler before tab? This gives a test:

  (1) type a brief sample in a text area, like the one in your post, but instead of separate columns with points, simply use a single tab

  (2) select all text

  3) go to the Type-> tabs

  (4) I hope it sounds familiar to you (probably from MS Word, or maybe using a typewriter) but otherwise,.

  (4A), click once on the sovereign to insert a tab stop

  4 (b) type a question in the area of 'leader', and

  4 c) press Tab or Enter to confirm

  FYI, it's what you want, a 'leader' or a 'leader of dot. Knowing that he has called a "Chief" will help you find it in InDesign help.

• Type alignment between two text boxes.

  I have a business card, needs to have two text blocks, in separate text boxes, align vertically.

  To make a long story short. I use InDesign to create a business card for "PageFlex" be used on "Four51. If the text variables change. Sometimes all three designations will be used, I.e., cell phone, fax. Other times only the telephone and/or fax numbers is used.

  The customer wants that the block of text on the left to align vertically, ALWAYS with the right hand of the block of text to the top line. Even if the right text block will change. E.g. telephone, Fax and laptop still will NOT be used. It may be that a single employee and the left text frame must adapt to align at the top. Either upwards or downwards to match the alignment of the right hand block.

  Here you can see two text blocks will align at the top. The right text block is "aligned to the bottom" in "vertical Justification".

  

  Here, you see what happens when a line of text is deleted. I want that the block of text on the left to lower with the right text block so that they remain aligned.

  

  Again, here's a deleted row. I would like once again, the left block of type lower with the right text block.

  

  If it is not possible, it's ok. I'm not a guru type. It is not in my knowledge of InDesign. I tried with the text "linked" and "unrelated". I can't make it work.

  All you need to do is place the left as an anchored object frame on the top line of the right frame (before the word name).

  The left frame with then up and down with the top line.

• CS2 erase content and the text box

  I use CS2 on Windows. I have a file of 30 pages with the linked text boxes on each page with anchored objects. I would remove the first 10 pages, but NOT the text of these areas of 10 text wrap on the remaining pages. Is there a way to delete the text boxes AND their content before deleting these pages, that I don't have to highlight all of the text on them, remove it, then delete the text boxes themselves?

  Ah ha! You need a script! I use CS2 and I only found on the scripts - you can find them on the CD-ROM or get you it from here (scroll to CS2.) Put them in the folder scripts in your presets folder, open the palette scripts (on Windows) and here they are. There are two useful in your goal - we split the history in separate text boxes, one pops up a text box in the story. Just select your text box and double-click the script.

  (Of course, once you cut your text out of the herd area you can remove it).

• Insertion of a middle Page of separate text on a two column layout box

  I'm working on a book with a layout in two columns.  At various times, I need to insert what are effectively the chapter breaks.  Currently I have a giant text block flowing for all 65 pages.  This provision is (I think?) made necessary by the scripts that I am running for our line numbers and our notes.

  My original idea was to put the chapter title in a separate text block and wrap the text around it, so that I can keep the unique setting of the main text.  Unfortunately, in the two-column layout, this means that the text in the first column went * under * the title of the chapter to complete the first column, no matter where I moved it.

  I think I may need to end the block of text of the first chapter and start a second for the new chapter get the result I want.  However, I have a few worries about that: first of all, if I ended up simply text block, I should remove the other 55 pages (after the break) I already partially formatted and screw them from scratch in the text box of the new chapter?  Secondly, I also fear that making a separate text block could ruin my scripts endnote and line numbers.

  (NB: if I need to put an end to this block of text and starting a new one, I can't find a way to do it on a page at the beginning of a block of text in several pages, so I need help with this, too.)

  Y at - it a simple way to insert this text box so that text of the first chapter ends perfectly in two columns above it, and the next chapter starts cleanly into two columns underneath?

  Now that you have your text formatted in a single framework with two columns, you can select the chapter header text and tell him to cover all the columns in the text block.

  This warp the need to set up a separate text frame.

  The only downside I can think is that you use the the duration columns can slow down InDesign a bit.

  Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have searched for a solution to this problem:

  I made a gallery of images, and I want their descriptions below an image on rollover.  I also want to text boxes to stay under an images at the same distance on the page gets scaled down. If I have understood correctly, the text boxes must start below the image and stay on the same layer, so that they scale adapted in what concerns my images.

  Is there a way to make a sensitive layout and define a text box must appear as an image when the image is upside down?

  Without seeing what you're trying to do, it is very difficult to answer. Have you tried to add the image and the description inside a container? Or maybe the ToolTip Widget can work for you, if you want the text to appear on mouseover or something.

• How to use the result of widget radio selection to 'show' a text box?

  I have a question about widgets.

  What I want to do is to take the result of radio button widgets (in this case 1 2 rather long sentences that were available) and which will display a text box on another screen.

  Background: I have a series of slides where I ask the questions of the learner through Radio button widgets and so I get a number of variables (= penalty) they choose.

  The question I have is that I want to display all the choices they made on 1 page. Because the possible answers are relatively long I have run out of space if I simply inserts

  variables to shown as such and/or the police gets too small.

  So my idea is to use the answer that they choose to make a text box with a shorter version of the same appearo of sentence on this slide 'results '.

  So my idea is to have the learner to make their selection, then use a tip action to check what answer (= the option button), they clicked on.

  What I would do through "If XYZ variable ' 'contains (a keyword of the long sentence)' then 'show textbox YZ' etc.

  Question 1: Is this the most simple/more convenient way or I can save me time somwhow?

  2 "contain" a medium of action adv. the exact text or it may be just one of the words (out of the long sentence that could be selected)? I ask because then I have to use the same long exact phrase in the NOA that seems awkward.

  3. I need to create a separate fast action for each radio widget, I've used. Is this correct?

  4 if I then say 5 adv. actions for different questions, I asked what should trigger these advanc. action? The goal is just to shorten the long sentences in the selections made?

  If I use ' enter' for all the screen I just started one, I haven´t?

  In my example the var who will get the short sentence is v_class. It's always the variable associated with the interaction of radio buttons. You have as much of these variables to be inserted on the last slide you have interactions button radio please never enter the variable to insert, but use the X button in the role of composition of the properties panel for the text container. Variables are case sensitive, in this way, you will avoid typos.

  You are allowed only three lines of metadata. However, you can add several fields of metadata for each line, like this:

• Moving a text box automatically using find/replace?

  I have a text box containing the given text (for example "Hello-hello12"), through several separate documents. I want to move this text box make a different location on the page of all these documents. Is it possible to do in bulk? I looked in the search/replace option, but could not find a way to do over there. I use CS6 if it matters.

• Set the variable to the text entered in a text box

  Hello. I have 2 text boxes on a form that the user can type in numbers. I just want to add the numbers that they typeRegeditdans together and the response of output. I'm a simple and will get more complicated with my calculations later. I've done the calculations to work if they are entered in a database, but we need to work on the fly based on what the user has typed in the text boxes.

  I am only able to set the text of the box and their output values, but I can't bring it to add up. I have some javascript that displays what has been typed in areas using CFSet. Is it the way I should write this? Is it possible to condense the javascript, or I have to separate each set of code text box on? Is there another way to do this simple calculation with just Cold Fusion, or do I have the javascript to enter numbers that are entered in the text boxes? Here is the code I have below. If you delete the CFset price and output price, you will see that this code generates areas of text X and Y. thank you for your help.

  Mixture of Javascript with Coldfusion is unnecessarily complex. If all you need is to add the value of two form fields, then just Google javascript add form fields and you will get a lot of suggestions.

• Empty text box is not progressing

  I have a slide with 5 text boxes. I don't want the user to be able to move forward until all these are filled.

  I tried to create an advanced interaction which I can't seem to work.

  Did I miss something?

  I can get it to work once, the error box appears, but after that the button does not work and no errors appear.

  I would really like to just reload the page.

  Because you are using only SHOW or HIDE error messages, you must create a user click on something else to run another tip Action to make the legend comments disappear and start another instance of the conditional action to do anything else.

  There is no event in Captivate, which allows you to perform an action based on the time that will happen AFTER x number of seconds.  The user must do something.

  Your only alternative is to place the feedback on separate slides and do your jump conditional Action the user on the slides, then have the Slide action leaving jump them to the original slide when its chronology runs.

• Why the data disappears when you click on a text box on a page of a completed form on?

  Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows 7.

  Installation: I created a doc of bid that allows the end user to complete the first page (request for quote) and auto information fills in the next 3 pages, carrying contractors names and info to separate bid documents.

  Each of the contractor bid documents must out individually, so I check out them for distribution.

  The problem is that the details of the offer requires sometimes scroll down in the text box, which has been activated and works well on the original document, the information disappears when you click the check box in the checked out document.

  What is blow the information contained in the extracted document when you click on the text box? This does not happen in any other areas of text without scrolling.

  I have never heard forward and cannot reproduce them. What the police that you use for the multiline field? It would be interesting to see a sample file if you can put a somewhere.

  Something that might work is first export data from form (in FDF/XFDF), then extract the pages, reset and re-import the data in the page.
