serial for Dell the host cluster

below takes a huge time (as opposed to a faster query with get-view) & then gives error

Get-view ViewType - HostSystem-property @("Nom", "Summary.Hardware.OtherIdentifyingInfo[7].) IdentifierValue"). Select-object Name,@{N="Tag; E={$_. Summary.Hardware.OtherIdentifyingInfo [7]. IdentifierValue}}

Can someone suggest that blame on top?

Thank you

Try like this

Get-view ViewType - HostSystem-property @("Nom", "Summary.Hardware.OtherIdentifyingInfo") |

  • NEWBIE: vSwitch in a matter of the host Cluster Configuration

    Hello

    I'm pretty new to vmware and will be starting my first implementation in the coming days.  I had training and have a very good understanding of what it is I'm doing it but have a few issues of networking.

    If we do not have Enterprise Plus and must use Standard vSwitches on each host in the cluster (using 3 host cluster), that mean each virtual NETWORK adapter configurations on each vswitch hosts will be exactly the same?  So, if I put the vMotion group of ports on host A to use the physical network (vmnic0 and vmnic1) interface cards whose 192.168.10.1 IP address et.2.  It means that I then configure the same IPS for vMotion Port Group (vmnic0 and vmnic1) on host B and C of the host in the cluster?

    If this is the case then wouldn't NIC physical on the three ESX hosts in the cluster need to have same IP configs, in which case wouldn't that cause conflicts of intellectual property, no?   Please advise if I am not clear enough.  Thankx.

    Rick,

    You would need separate IP addresses for each VMkernel port that you are creating.  Thus, for example, if you create 2 VMkernel ports per host, 1 host could avoir.1 et.2, host 2 may avoir.3 et.4 and host 3 can be affectee.5 et.6.

    But remember, you are not assigning IP addresses for uplink adapters (vmnic), you will then assign to the VMkernel Ports.  Your ESXi host will have a VMkernel default port for management (created during installation) which will have the IP address of your hosts assigned management.

    If you create a separate network for vMotion (recommended), this would require a VMkernel port separated with the checkbox "Use this port for vMotion" checked, and who would live on, most likely, a separate vSwitch with its own uplinks.  The VMkernel port would have its own unique IP address.  You will need to repeat this configuration (with specific to host IPs) on each host.

  • Script for the host Cluster Datacenter WWN of output

    Hi all

    I'm looking to create a script to the output:

    WWN with WWP, Datacenter, Cluster, host

    Do not know how to start with this one. I guess I'd start using Get-Data Center and get-content then from there.

    Any help appreciated,

    Rob,

    You can try the following code. It should be a pretty good entry at the very least. I don't have a FC HBA in my lab at home to work out the kinks with the info WWN that will have to wait until tomorrow.

    $vmhosts = get-VMHost

    $HBAInfo = @)

    {Foreach ($vmhost to $vmhosts)

    $HBAs = $vmhost | Get-VMHostHba-type FibreChannel

    $DC = (get-Datacenter - VMHost $vmhost). Name

    $Cluster = (get-Cluster - VMHost $vmhost). Name

    {Foreach ($HBA to $HBAs)

    $Details = "" | Select WWN, Datacenter, Cluster host

    $Details.WWN = $HBA. PortWorldWideName

    $Details.Datacenter = $DC

    $Details.Cluster = $Cluster

    $Details.Host = $vmhost. Name

    $HBAInfo += $Details

    }

    }

  • Add the host Cluster in the Cluster data store

    How can I add host/HostCluster in the Cluster data store after the cluster data store is created. I know that we can add at this time, when you create the cluster data store, but how can we add it as soon as it is created?

    I think that as long as the new host has access to all the LUNS that comprise data warehouses in the cluster data store, then no further action is necessary.

    Make sure just that if using CF then zoning is configured correctly and the LUNS are not hidden from the new host.

    Also, make sure you restart the analysis for new data warehouses on your new host so that it can detect data warehouses

  • How to upgrade vcenter host when the host needs to be in maintenance mode

    Hi, I have a host 5.5 with 3 VMs (2 production servers and 1 Server vcenter). Now I see for updating the host using vcenter Update Manager documentation is quite simple. The thing I don't understand until you can fix, the esx host must be in maintenance mode, which means no VMs, including the vcenter server, which is the only way you can do a right click on the host and choose restore. Now how can I fix if the server is in maintenance mode and my vcenter server is down?

    I have the vsphere client installed on my laptop, version 5.5, but him, I did not have the remediation option. How can I put my 5.5 esxi host?

    Thank you

    With only one host in place and vCenter Server as a virtual machine running on this host, you cannot use Update Manager. Your options are either interactively update the host using a CD or update patch / the host from the command line using esxcli.

  • Impossible to select the host for the pool, can only select Cluster

    Hello

    I try to assess the view and go into the Guide of the evaluators.  When I set up the parameters of resource under the vCenter part settings of the linked Clone Pool where I'm supposed to be able to select a host or a Cluster, I have only the option to select my (not an individual host) cluster.  The problem is that not all hosts in my cluster have access to the SAN that I use for this assessment, so I wanted to be able to isolate the pool to a single host.  Is there some kind of trick to get the hosts present themselves individually?  The hosts are 5.5 ESXi and vCenter vCenter 5.5 Standard

    Thank you

    Dylan

    You can only select the cluster. "Host or a cluster" refers to the fact that if you have a stand-alone Host which is not in a cluster, you can use - so you'd have to move the host you want to use on a stand-alone host or in its own cluster.

  • Deployment models for the new cluster - "A" failed to Connect to Host

    Hi all

    I reorganized my ESX 3.5 2 130756 machines in a new cluster (they were already members of another cluster & lt; - this can be an important factor here).  When I try to deploy new virtual machines from templates to the new cluster, almost immediately, the task fails with the error "failed to Connect to Host."  Here's what I did on troubleshooting:

    -I confirm that nothing has changed on the console host IP and DNS service on the ESX host configuration

    -restart services on the ESX host management - tried again, failed.

    -removed and added hosts in cluster - tried again once, didn't

    -disabled DRS on cluster - tried again, failed.

    -confirmed I can deploy templates to other clusters

    -confirmed I can deploy a new virtual machine custom again cluster manually

    -restart the ESX and vCenter server hosts

    -removed ESX cluster hosts and destroys Cluster and file

    -recreated cluster and added guests, same error

    I think I've tried all the basics, but please let me know if you think something else to try.  In the VirtualCenter newspapers, there are the following entries whenever the task fails:

    Unexpected exception received during the NfcCopy

    (SERVER_Template) (vim.fault.HostConnectFault) unexpected exception during clone. Abandonment.

    It seems that the model does not really know where he lives.  I am trying to convert a virtual machine model and try to run a migration on it to a host.

    Otherwise, you may need to remove the inventory model and look for the data store that it is and resave.

  • Add new host esxi 5.1 for the existing cluster of vcenter

    Hello

    I would like to add a new host Virgin esxi 5.1 to an existing cluster from the vcenter. What are the things that I have to preconfigure on the host before add you it? I configured the network already, storage will be implemented when I add it to the cluster, right?

    So, what I ended up doing was just set up time, networking and dns. I then added the host while he was in maintenance mode. I have a Compellent SAN storage and im using a folder in compellent to map all my Lun, then I can just add a new host in this folder, and it will automatically map all volumes to the newly added host once I go into vmware and make a new analysis on the FC HBA host (do FC fabric SW zoning first of course). I then added a file .locker on one of my SAN LUNS scrach location/newspapers. She's.

  • Question for the host resource

    Hello

    We have 1 blade that hosts a physical SQL Server on it. The resources of this blade are 10 total to 20 cores processors and 512 GB of RAM on it. We want to virtualize it soon, but we don't have any other guests that we could use this size. We have a few available hosts that are 8 to 16 cores CPU and 256 GB of RAM. I was hoping that I could create a cluster with 2 of these hosts and virtualize the largest physical machine in the cluster. I know that when I virtualize this machine, he will live on one of the hosts at any given time. My question is if these hosts would be 'pool' their resources so that this machine could use more than a single host would offer it. Is it possible at all or not? If not is there another work around for this problem I have?

    We are on vSphere 5.5

    Thank you

    No, the maximum resource that can use a particular virtual machine will be limited by the maximum available on a single host computer running this VM particular resource. Workaround is to add more physical resources on the host or create the virtual computer with limited resources. Are you sure that your virtual machine uses really 20 the processor cores and 512 GB of RAM? Most of the workload running on the physical server uses all resources.

  • Get the name of the VM Cluster, host name, CPU and carrots

    Hello

    All of the following code gives the expected results, except for the last line. I can't make it work. What I am doing wrong?

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; {E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_______ |} Select NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_______ |} Get - View). Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    Thank you!

    There was a missing (in front of your last Get-VMHost. Want to be as fair as the attribute NumCPU, not an object that contains an attribute NumCPU so I changed line 3 a little

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; {E = {Get-VMHost - VM $_}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {(Get-VMHost-VM $_).} NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {(Get-VMHost-VM $_ |)} Get - View). Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    If you use this for a large number of virtual machines, you can watch by optimizing a bit. Rather call 'Get-VMHost' several times you can restructure a bit then called this is only once

    Get - VM | Select Name, @{N = 'Cluster'; {E = {Get-Cluster - VM $_}},

    @{N = "ESX host"; E = {$Script: VMH = (Get-VMHost - VM $_); $Script: VMH.} Name}},

    @{N = "NumCPU"; E = {$Script: VMH.} NumCPU}},

    @{N = "Kernels"; E = {$Script: VMH.} ExtensionData.Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuCores}}

    The 2nd piece of code is a little more than 2 x faster than the first since Get-VMHost is not be called multiple times

    Another quick thing, if you are looking for the number of processors (i.e. how much taken) then replace $Script: VMH. NumCPU with $Script: VMH. ExtensionData.Hardware.CpuInfo.NumCpuPackages; the host object NumCPU attribute is actually the number of cores that can be a bit misleading
