Server BIOS

Novice question...  I have 3 Dell PE2950 I need to update the BIOS.  I know that I can put the .bin file in a temporary folder and upgrade the BIOS by the launch of the console.  But, I want a solution to be able to start on a device.,. CD or USB.  If I can boot from a CD or USB, can't I just run the .exe BIOS update?  I've not updated a BIOS on an ESX Server, so I didn't know if I SHOULD run the version of sync .bin file or not.  If I run it from the console, of course, I need to run the sync .bin file, but if I boot on an external device, can I use the .exe version?  I know it's an easy answer, but I do not have a server to test.

Thank you

Bootable media involves a kind of operating system boot.  Instructions would depend strongly on what you used to start.  If you use a back/windows based device boot (cd or usb), then you would use an exe to update, and if you used a linux-based boot device, then you would use the approach similar to what is done on the ESX console.

  • RAM problem in Server 2008 R2 Ent Version

    Hi friends,

We have server HP ProLiant DL580 G7 with OS server 2008 R2 64 Bit Enterprise Version. On this server total RAM is 64 GB, which only 16 GB of memory usable is showing.

    Performed troubleshooting:

    1. Update server BIOS version.

2 installed the latest operating system patches.

    3. all newspapers of material shared with the team of HP.

After all steps above still question is the same. If one has the solution for this problem, please help me.

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

Is there a solution for this?

  • 64-bit applications do not convert to VMware Server Console of ESX3i

    Hello

Because of performance problems, we try to convert a machine Console VMware Server 1.0.4 for VMware ESX Server 3i, using VMware converter standalone client 4.0.1 vcentre but it is a failure with the answer "the destination can't stand not 64-bit clients.

We believe that ESX3i supports 64-bit machines - there is an option to create one, if we were to start from scratch.

We also tried to import directly via the "Import a virtual appliance" option on the 3i server itself, but he expects a file ovf rather than an egg file, and so we get an exception "system out of memory.

Can anyone recommend the best method of conversion of a 64-bit computer?

    Thank you

    Paul

Welcome to the Forums - Yes ESXi support 64-bit VMS but you needs to ensure that material that esxi installed supports 64-bit by confimrining in the server BIOS ESXi VT i and s 64-bit enabled

  • Demo/Simulator?

A chance, we can get a public/guest connection to a switch interface to see the GUI and look through its options? Many vendors provide feedback (without changing permissions) access to their products, so something like this would be ideal in order to provide the customer with an idea of what they are buying, a free "runthrough".

I reached out to Phil and he suggested to implement a switch for a call from the client, but it seems more convenient to have a set up permanently with a connection guest that have to coordinate, make a game just for a call.

Alternatively, if there is a simulator that could download which resembled the GUI, that would be the value add. System x (before when he was with IBM) had a simulator for the BladeCenter AMM also although System x server BIOS that could be exactly that.

    Thank you!

Unfortunately, there is no simulator at the moment.

  • Update of firmware and drivers controller PowerEdge 2900

    Hello

I have server PowerEdge 2900. Current configuration I see on OMSA:

    BIOS version 2.3.1 (former)

    Controller PERC 6 / i integrated.
Version of the firmware is up to date.
    Firmware Version 6.0.2 - 0002
    Minimum Firmware Version 6.3.0 - 0001
    4.05.01.64 driver version
    6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version

I need to upgrade the firmware of the controller and make the Windows updates on this server. My questions:

What is the correct order for the upgrade:

    1. Windows updates
    2. BIOS,
    3. ESM firware,
    4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware,
    5. Disk controller
    6. Firmware of the controller,
    My questions would be:
How can I verify ESM and bottom of basket SAS version of the firmware on my server, maybe I do not need to update those?
On the Dell support site, I could find only:
    Dell Server BIOS, 2.7.0Dell SAS Backplane Firmware, v.1.05, A01Dell BMC Firmware, v.2.50, A00Dell PERC 6/i Integrated, v.6.3.1-0003, A14

and how to find software to update the drivers:
    4.05.01.64 driver version
    6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version
    ?
The Dell supports any automatic tool to collect and install the drivers and firmware required on a single server of Windows (except ITA)?
    Server is very critical, thanks,

Yes, it's safe.  It can be run from within the OS, or you can start on SBUU and serve Suu repository for update packages.

In most cases, it is easier to update of Windows, but it is not necessary.

    1. Windows updates
    2. BIOS,
    3. Environmentally sound management software (Yes, must be updated to BIOS).
    4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware (also needed),
    5. Controller driver (did you mean driver here? pilot, when it is available, it should be updated before... If current firmware to run 2008R2, new drivers are available through Microsoft Update - if available)
    6. The controller firmware
    7. The hard drive firmware
    8. NIC, DRAC, etc..

When / if get the support.dell.com site update files, use Packages to update for the format of Microsoft Windows.

  • vMotion works between HP DL380 G7 and the Gen9

    Hi all

VMotion I would like to know how working with HP DL380 G7 HP DL380 Gen9?

    Can someone help me?

    vMotion between this two servers:

    HP DL380 G7:

    HP DL380 Gen9:

    + 10 GB 2-port 10GBASE-T 533FLR-t HP FlexFabric

    Can someone help me?

    I would be very grateful

    Ralf

The G7 has a CPU of generation Westmere, the Gen9 has a generation of Haswell CPU.

vMotion requires that you have the same subset of games of CPU instructions and common on the source and destination of the CPU and active features in the server BIOS.

This means that in your case:

You will be able to vMotion virtual machine that has been powered on the host of the G7 (VM runs with Westmere instructions) for the Gen9 and so (but only if you don't re - power cycled the VM on the host G9).

But you will not be able to vMotion virtual machine that has been powered - we on the Gen9 host (VM runs with Haswell instructions) to the host of the G7 most old car is missing these more recent CPU instruction sets.

VCA comes here. By activating EVC on the common cluster with the generation of CPU down (in your case Westmere), all guests will present only these instruction sets to virtual machines when they are powered - on, which makes possible dynamic migration through the different physical CPU generations.

See the following articles for more information about CVS:

VMware KB: Enhanced vMotion compatibility (EVC) support processor

VMware KB: EVC and CPU compatibility FAQ

Alternatively you could manually hide CPU instructions by VM - with advanced options if you don't have a source host and destination in the same cluster, but it is a tedious task and I would not recommend it.

  • System management software 1 SALT fullness 0: complete log - say

    Hi all

We have an old VmWare ESXi 4 in our Organization, no installed vCenter.
I have two warning messages about to record the ability, screenshot is attached.
I have access via SSH to the mode of Technical Support, also I can access the files on the server and look for the log file.

Tried to erase the log as suggested here: VMware KB: alarm of State of The host IPMI system event log is triggered repeatedly in VMware vCenter Server 4.x and 5.x
But when I run the "localcli material clear salt ipmi" command in SSH connection I get an error: - ash: localcli: not found.

Please help me to clear logs,

Can I just delete the log file of the server?

    Untitled.jpg

So. I figured out how to do this.
First of all, we must understand it might be logs of server host BIOS or in another case, the partition containing the newspapers may be out of storage.

    • In my case the problem was in the newspapers of IBM server BIOS. I just erased the BIOS of the server host (reboot required) newspapers.
    • Another way to overcome this problem, if it was a partition that lack of space is to point to another, newspapers more large partition.
This could be done under Configuration > software > advanced settings-> ScratchConfig.

Hope that helps anyone... I'm not sure that ESXi4 exists somewhere except my company

  • lspci to detect i350t2 but not the vsphere

I followed to adapters Intel®, VMware ESXi Server * driver and NVM Image compatibility information and chose only the version of the driver. It is installed successfully. Esxi is now while I'm cli and type:

It is also missing in vsphere client = > network cards. This is also only Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet BCM5715. How to initialize completely I350t2? What is the problem?

Strange, the so-called vmkernel detected and claimed the devices, by assigning them to vmnic2 and vmnic3 (see the "VMkernel name" in the detailed output of material), which means that the driver should be ok.

You can run these commands? :

    # ethtool-i vmnic2

    # esxcli network nic get - nic - name vmnic2

    # grep-i /etc/vmware/esx.conf vmnic

module system esxcli # get - module igb

    # esxcfg - module - retrieves the igb options

    # enum_instances VMware_EthernetPort root/cimv2

You don't have a pass through vmdirectpath active on a virtual machine with these cards, right?

Someone in a similar thread said that he was working for them after an update of the firmware of the NETWORK adapter, have you tried? : Re: Intel I350-T4 only recognized by Esx 5.5, not by 5.5 U2

Download Intel® Ethernet Boot Utility connections, images PXE and EFI drivers

If all else fails, so at this time I can only imagine that maybe there is some BIOS or NIC configuration server BIOS interfering here. In general, this could be a parameter associated with interrupt handling. Update the server BIOS can help too.

Have you tried another host or move the NETWORK card to a different physical PCI slot? Also, you might consider upgrading to 5.5 U3 independently to know if this will fix the problem.

  • No system disk or disk error

    Hi all

I bought an HP Proliant DL580 G5 Server to install and practical virtualization technology. I did a clean install of VM Ware ESXi 5.0 successfully and then restarted the server. But, its not start with VM Ware ESXi rather its saying "No. Sysatem disk or disk error." I changed everything what it must be in the server BIOS.

    Need your help please.

    Thank you

For HP servers, you can just download the HP Service Pack for ProLiantcourse, which is an ISO/DVD bootable image. Unfortunately, HP has changed their policies of support lately, so you have to have/create one account HP to download PSP.

  • Purple screen on HOST with Esxi 5.5

    Good afternoon

I'm upgrading from 5.1 to 5.5 esxi servers.

I've updated 5 servers without problems but the sixth, I had a problem.

This morning when I've updated a host everything worked fine. Suddenly, an hour later, host was unreachable and when I checked in the server room

I got a purple screen. I manually restarted the host, and everything seems to work.

In my research, one user has this kind of problem, and it's cyclical. I'm doing research in this type of case a way to fix this bug.

I took a quick glance at 2 positions:

VMware KB: ESXi hosts with larger workloads can generate partial core dumps

    VMware communities: All content-all communities

Is that someone already had this kind of screen? Understand what the purple screen?

    Kind regards

Definitely check your versions of firmware on your server, BIOS, NETWORK card, card Raid array.  What type of server is it?

I tried to update value of items in the table of the types of annonymous as new {new {TCP = true}}; and the array of strings, new string {"TCP"}; but when ever I trie to execute the configureservices method after spending the type of firewall service for network services "Bad Request: error on line 1." End the file Premeture " can someone send sample c# code to configure firewall rules in Edgegateway?"

I found the answer. Here's how to set firewall type protocol rules in c# API.

Create the object of type firewall protocols

    Protocol of var = new FirewallRuleTypeProtocols();

Value of protocols items this value corresponds to the value of the xml element

    Protocol. Items = new Object() {true};

The name of the element value that is the name of xml element.

    Protocol. ItemsElementName = new ItemsChoiceType [] {ItemsChoiceType.Tcp};

    Protocol Set

    firewallRuleType.Protocols = Protocol;

  • Fedora 18 (64-bit) do not start on VMware 8

    Hi all

    I have the following problem:

I installed Fedora 18 (64-bit) on my VMware Workstation 8.0.1 build 528992, but I get the following error:

    Screenshot1.png

    then the following:

    Screenshot2.png

Note that I activate the VT on my server BIOS and I disable execution of 'confidence' but still having the same error.

After making changes in BIOS launched you stop the system or you just did a reboot hot?  If the latter then perform a boot cold to ensure the change of VT - x in the BIOS takes effect.

  • VM with l.o. xp 32-bit and Windows 2003 are very slow

    Hi all
    expose the problem

I installed esxi5.1 Server poweredge r715 ADM Opteron 6238 processor. the bios of the server is upgraded to the latest version 2.9.0

VM with l.o. xp 32-bit and Windows 2003 are very slow and found to have 100% of the CPU.

This problem also happens with the new machine virtual and not only moved to another computer virtual infrastructure.

Support DELL has verified the server BIOS settings and it's ok

    Thank you

    Mr. Nelli

This BIOS version introduces a few new States C. can you check that your power supply is set to 'Maximum Performance' and that you have disabled C1E.
