Server series C220 UCS

Hi all

I have to perform a new installation of CPU on the servers of the UCS. This is the first time that I am managing c-series servers and I would like to get some clarification on the Raid configuration.

The servers comes

MegaRAID 9266-8i + battery backup for C240 and C220

and that each server has four hard drives of 500 GB. Can you advise on which is the best raid level that I can use. I want to use raid 10, but I don't know how it should be configured?

Thank you.

  • Configuration of a port as 'server port' in UCS FI 6120

    Hi all

It is a fundamental question. If any user of UCS can kidly help me by providing a checklist for setting up a server in the UCS port, I will be grateful.

What I've been running a port as the port of the server using the UCS Manager and nothing more. Then I connected the ANC of 10G from the server to this UCS FI. FCoE login never happened. My setup is slightly different from that of a regular system of UCS as I am trying to connect a stand-alone server to the UCS IF instead of use the chassis. Please visit https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2117756?tstart=0 to learn more about this topic.

Looks like these server ports are the ports of junction and can carry any traffic VLAN? So why not FCoE VLAN? Why no "announcement of the discovery? I hung a finisar and don't see something specific protocol FCoE from port of the server.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Niranjan,

It might help to take the steps that need to occur when you connect a 10G ANC to Nexus one N5K.

In order to get a CF on a N5K virtual connection, the following steps of the manuals must be made:

    (1) create a vfc and bind it to the physical interface where the ANC is attached

    (2) create a vlan and vsan and associate the vlan for the vsan fcoe

    (3) place the vfc in the vsan created in step 2 above

Once these steps are completed, and a couple of closing/No.-stops, you will get a vfc on the N5K flogi.

When you create a Service in UCSM profile and associate with a blade with an ANC, UCSM performs all these tasks for you. If you dig into the system, you will see the vfc and veth that were created for your SPs.

Without a SP and UCSM to manage the port of the server, any of these steps occur, and you will not get a flogi. There is no method to manipulate UCSM to perform what you're trying to do. It is not in the current design of the product.

The only supported method to attach a rack CSeries server to a cluster UCSM is using the integration of the C-series features and the necessary equipment (FEX)

    I hope this helps.

  • What is the procedure of upgrading since version 7.1 of CUCM (MCS Server) call manager to version 10.2 of CUCM (on the server of the UCS)

    Hello

What is the procedure to upgrade the call manager since version 7.1 of CUCM (MCS Server) to version 10.2 of CUCM (on the server of the UCS), please let me know the steps to what would be the backup procedures and upgrades.

    Concerning

    Gerard

I suggest reading this guide to make sure that you have prepared your environment to support the first 10.x. The link below also contains the path to upgrade to 10.0 (1).

One of the ways to do this is:

1 / apply cooling cop upgrade file on all servers in the cluster.

2 / upgrade the cluster to 8.6 (2). Make a backup of the cluster.

3 / build a cluster of servers 8.6 (2) on the virtual machines and assign them the same host name and the IP address of the cluster hardware. (You may need to keep these on a separate network until turn off hardware machines)

4 / restoration of the backup of the pile of material on the VM cluster.

    5 / upgrade cluster VM to 10.0 (1).

  • Server of the UCS for retransmission of CUCM/UnityCnx/UCCX cause

I installed CUCM, UnityCnx and UCCX using VMware 4.1 on a server C210M UCS. I thought that the web interface has been a bit slower to change between menus than we have on a physical server, but do not think it was too bad. The real problem was found when I tried to upgrade the 3 comments UC systems. I see the continuous transmissions between the SFTP server and servers CUCM, UnityCnx and UCCX. It takes a long time to upgrade systems because of the broadcast. Anyone else see this issue?

Not specific broadcasts, no..  But they are just an indicator of another problem somewhere.  Don't know what you have, never saw your environment, don't know you from Adam.  But if you are running 4.1 with comments of the CPU, then you must be aware of the TCP LRO problem if you're not already.  LRO is enabled by default and it is fixed now with a new patch, but in 4.1 before the hotfix will stop the vast "TCP" usually in the form of poor performace TCP as a general statement.  This may cause retransmissions among many other things of course.  Here is the link to turn off RSO on our guests and to restore back to normal TCP transmissions, will it affect you in the first place.  You mention that you fixed LRO known issue before indicating a tcp problem, so I'll post it on the assumption that you specifically called a tcp-based protocol and no udp based.

Good luck, let me know if she takes care of it.

    2.66 GHz Xeon E5640 80W CPU / 12MB cache/DDR3 1066 MHz

I know that 4 VM can be created on this server, UCS.

But UC on the description of the UCS shows differently.

  • Migrate CUCM, CUP and CUC VMS from the physical server Dell to a UCS

    Hi all

We have 3 virtual machines from one physical server to Dell, we want to migrate those virtual machines from a server of the UCS.

    Reference Dell physical server:

    Model: PowerEdge M610

    UCS: Version of UCS B200 M4 3.0 (2 c)

I was wondering if just copy all the files of the virtual machine to another server or there is another procedure to do this... and also we need new licenses of vmware?

    Thank you very much!!

    Kind regards!

ESXi licenses is up to you, you might have bought it so that the UCS, or buy directly from VMWare, but you need to license.

As for traffic, if you have vCenter, you can move the virtual machines using it (vMotion and/or Storage vMotion), or if not, you can perform a cold migration.

The 1.3.x of the code, it is not possible.  This feature will be available in 1.4 which is just QA and should be available next month.

  • Default security when tio UCS server migration

    Hello

I am running Call Manager 8.5.1 on a stand-alone server of MCS 7825. I intend to migrate this to a server of the UCS. I have saved the current server through disater recovery process and successfully on the new UCS Server restored. My question is when I move the phones the new server, they will be able to join him (the host name/IP address is the same as the old server)? Or default security will prevent phones from recording. My feeling is that security by default config migrate through when I restore via the disater recovery process. Did someone done this before. I have no way to test until I do the migration.

    Thank you

  • Hi ALL, did any attempt on the virtual computer NETWORK load balancing using HYPERV on UCS blades

I try to configure the CASE server cluster by using the Unicast NLB on the virtual machine on different blades on the UCS, it works for awhile, then he abandoned packages.

I heard that this screenplay of unicast is not supported in the UCS when she used END-host mode in the fabric interconnet...? any attempted before.

Would it, I use the multicast mode is that something needs to be done on the FBI62020 or the LAN switch upstream. ??

Header note I found on the implementation of UCS for mulitcast NLBL:

Microsoft NLB can be deployed in 3 modes:

    Unicast

    Multicast

    IGMP multicast

For series B UCS deployments, we have seen that the multicast and IGMP multicast work.

IGMP multicast mode seems to be the more reliable deployment mode.

To do this, the monitoring settings:

All NLB Microsoft value "Multicast IGMP" nodes.  Important!  Check ths by logging into EACH node independently.  Do not rely on the MMC of NLB snap.

An IGMP applicant must be present on the VLAN of NLB.  If PIM is enabled on the VIRTUAL LAN that is your interrogator.  UCS cannot function as applicant IGMP.  If an interrogator of functioning is not present, NLB IGMP mode will not work.

You must have a static ARP entry on cheating it upstream pointing IP address Unicast NLB on the multicast MAC address NETWORK load balancing.  This need will set up, of course, on the VLAN of the NLB VIP. The key is that the routing for the NLB VLAN interface must use this ARP entry as a unicast IP ARP response may not contain a multicast mac address. (Violation of the RFC 1812)  Hosts on the NLB VLAN must also use the static entry.  You may have several entries ARP.  IOS can use a function of 'alias' of ARP. (Google it.)

How Microsoft NLB works. -The truncated for brevity Mac addresses.

    TOPOLOGY OF NLB MS

NETWORK VLAN 10 = subnet 10.1.1.0/24 IP load balancing

VIP = 10.1.1.10 NETWORK LOAD BALANCING

Arp entry static switch advanced IP 10.1.1.10 upstream to MAC 01

NLB VIP (MAC 01, IP 10.1.1.10)

    NODE-A (AA, MAC IP:10.1.1.88)

    NŒUD-B (MAC BB, IP:10.1.1.99)

Using the IGMP snooping and interrogator VLAN snooping table is filled with the mac NLB address and groups pointing to the appropriate L2 ports.

MS NLB nodes will send the responses of IGMP queries.

This snooping table could take 30 to 60 seconds to complete.

Host on VLAN 200 (10.200.1.35) sends traffic to NETWORK VIP (10.1.1.10) load balancing

It goes of course to VLAN 10 interface that uses the static ARP entry to resolve to address MAC 01 VIP NETWORK load balancing.

Since it is a multicast frame destination it will be forward by the IGMP snooping table.

The framework will arrive at ALL NLB nodes. (NŒUD-A & NŒUD-B)

NLB nodes will use its load balancing algorithm to determine which node will manage the TCP session.

Only one NLB node will respond to this host with TCP ACK to start the session.

    NOTES

This works in a VMware with N1k, standard vSwtich and vDS environment. Where surveillance IGMP is not enabled, the framing for VIP MAC NETWORK load balancing will be flooded.

NLB can only work with TCP-based services.

As stated previously mapping an IP unicast to a multicast mac address is a violation implied by RFC 1812.

    TROUBLESHOOTING

Make sure your interrogator is working. Just to clarify that this does not mean that it is actually at work.

Wireshark lets check that IGMP queries are received by the NLB nodes.

Make sure that the ARP response works as expected.  Once Wireshark again is your friend.

Look at the paintings IGMP snooping. Validate the L2 ports appearing as expected.

CSCtx27555 [Bug-preview for CSCtx27555] Unknown multicast with destination outside the range MAC 01:xx: are deleted. (6200 FI fixed in 2.0.2m)

Solution: Change the NLB mode of operation of "Multicast" to "multicast IGMP', which modifies balancing load NETWORK VIP MAC at 0100.5exx.xxx Beach, allows to transfer occur as expected.

-There is no impact on the configuration, you have done service profiles.  they will continue to work as expected.  Mode selector has the FI behave more like a conventional switch.  Most notable is that Spanning tree will be activated and if you have several uplinks yew, tree covering weight will begin to block redundant paths.

You need to review your topology and what impact tree covering weight.  Generally, we at the switch port upstream defined as "edge master", you want to delete this line.

  • RAID on C220

    Hello

I have a C220 server with raid UCS-RAID-9266CV of the card into the PCIe slot.

I need to remove this card in order to use for an extra NIC PCIe slot.

Can I use the embedded MegaRAID controller to set up RAID 1 on integrated SAS drive?

It seems to me that the migration is not possible...:

-I don't understand why; have I not a... software solution?

-If I can, what should I do about the BIOS, wiring...?

    Thx a lot

    Nicolas.

    Nicolas,

If you ordered the server with RAID controller then he came with built-in RAID key to be installed on the system board.  You'll need to order the following parts and install on the edge of the system in order to use the integrated RAID controller.  It is important to note that ONLY windows and Linux are supported.  To order the part as a spare just add an = sign at the end of the PID (e.g. UCSC-RAID-ROM55 =).  It is a key that plugs directly into the card system that allows the on-board controller.

The cables connected to your 9266 can be re-used and connected to the SAS connectors on the system board. Once you have the part and recabled, you need to activate the controller embedded in the BIOS.
