Service console uses what memory?

When I connect to the service console, I see that 700 of the 800 MB of memory is used when I run the "free-m. If I do a top or a ps - to, it's not really all that consumes a lot of memory (other than the workers spend - 12%). Is there a way to determine which uses as much memory? 700 MB seems higher it works normally.

Thank you

Scott

It is a common conception of GIS-ism/Linux.

The system uses 661 MB of memory.  However, only 170 MB is used for applications.  Linux is actively using any otherwise unused memory for caching of file system, which is what you see here under "buffer" and "cache."  To the point that an application requests more memory, Linux will reduce the size of buffer and cache and give him more.  Here is a similar explanation: http://www.linuxatemyram.com/

So if you want to monitor the memory usage, you must monitor (USED - BUFFER - CACHE), which is what gives you this second line.  So realistic, your system uses 170 MB for real applications and the RST for implementing caching file system.

  • HA and 2nd service console

I had just a console single service in each of my clusters for too long.  I want to install a 2nd / backup service console, only to improve resilience/accuracy of HA.  HA is configured on my cluster right now, with 'VM leave it on"since I'm paranoid about false positives. It happened twice in as many years.

Service primary or existing console is on vSwitch0 (typical of course) which NIC access network 10.25.13.0.

Is it not better to add a console/service gateway secondary on a network other than the primary?  If so, vSwitch1 (in use by my VMs) access network 10.25.20.0 so can't I just 'Add Networking' / Service Console / use vSwitch1 and add IP/gateway, etc and do with it?  Again, I have only this want to another path for HA heartbeat and don't have (or really even need) a NETWORK card dedicated for this purpose.

Sound good?  The warnings I share with this approach?

Then I can set the HA to do that HA is REALLY supposed to - detect what is almost certainly a host FAILURE and restart the virtual machines on other host in the cluster.  I find this 'interesting' VMware added option 'VMs letting' turned on only for the host isolation response, because it is not more or less defeat the purpose and/or is not an admission that HA is prone to false positives that get undesirable results?  Secondary service consoles, taking other paths (physically, nic to pass) AND to other subnets would seem to be an absolute requirement for the ideal/real 'stop VM' (and restart on hosts alt) implementation of the AH.

I think that what is meant by the tip to maintain the network label, it is similarly to name the second service even console on each host in the cluster, not name - it the same as the first service console.

Think of the second service console to provide connectivity redundant heatbeat mainly between the hosts, not really of another interface to check the addresses of isolation after the heartbeats are lost.  Use of the second service console if it is placed on the redundant network links well & switches must ensure that when a problem is detected, it is a failure of another host and the additional verification of isolation on a single interface would be enough to determine that the local host is not the issue.

  • VLAN for Service Console

    Hi guys.

Ive been through the strengthening of the security/best practice document and working my way through it.

I understand that its best practices to isolate the service console using a vlan separate but the problem I have with this is things like NTP and DNS does not work as the console will be completely isolated. I have only one Layer2 switch and im wondering what is the best way for acheving this is. Perhaps something like an Hytrust appliance?

Any suggestions, tales of wisdom tor welcome

    Thank you

I have to disagree with this statement since Andre, that we have found that when you run a scanner security on the management network (port), and especially against the VMotion network (port), you can stop the services, disable VMotion and so, by default, disabling of DRS.

I used HyTrust and found valuable by adding an extra layer of security.

FYI HyTrust works to implement authentication 2 factor for ESX and vCenter as part of the management functions of the access of the HyTrust Appliance for their next version 1.1.  This is for the connections of management vCenter both direct-to-host using Virtual Infrastructure Client or ssh.  They are currently seeking to implement for RSA SecureID, smart card, RADIUS and kerberos.

    Hello

Next, you create just a new vSwitch with your 2nd service console using the dedicated bear. Marking will be on the side of the physical switch.

If this host is in a HA Cluster, you may receive warnings about redundancy.

Seeing that it is your 2nd service console, you can remove these messages. Watch http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004700

  • KB973687 - msxml3.dll msxml6.dll - services.exe uses excessive virtual memory, the performance impact on the first logon after restart

Since the installation of fix KB973687, I had several SP2 and SP3 systems exhibit behavior that makes them unusable until after the first logon is completed, which can take up to 20 minutes.   I've identified the patch (KB973687) and DLLs, that it will update the origin of the problem, but uninstalling the patch does NOT return to normal operation.

I need to understand how to upgrade these systems WindowsXP SP2 and SP3 to restore normal operation, reinstalling Windows, programs, and settings is an expensive solution.

The performance problem is caused by services.exe slowly consumes about 1.5 GB of virtual memory, and then slowly releasing.  This seems to be triggered by the first logon after restart, this connection is very slow, the screen is blank for most of it, there might be failures of allocation memory during logon.  Once complete this opening of session and memory usage returns to normal levels, recording and return to work normally as do other operations until the system is restarted.

Spent a lot of time working with SysInternals Process Explorer, trying to find what specific service might be involved, lightweight system for bare essential services with no luck.

KB973687 seems to offer only two files msxml3.dll and msxml6.dll.  Uninstalling this patch, resettlement V3 and V6 of the XML parser fail to restore normal operation.

Not all systems seem to have place still restrict the differences.  Systems that are appear to be the oldest, with Windows XP has been installed for at least a year, installed Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.

Looking for these forums and the Internet, I believe that many have encountered this problem, but have not is it this level of analysis, seem most attribute it to a virus, I see several start explorer.exe manually, I didn't know all the alternatives before reinstalling Windows.

Found the solution, the following has been fixed in System Cleaner of Comodo 2.2.129172.4:

"For some strange reason, after changing some settings of the system with the CSC LastGood.tmp Directoy began to constantly be read from my hard drive. This would occur up to about 90 to 99% of my memory was used and then stopped, begin to free the memory, and the system began to slowly to function normally.
I used the process explore from sysinternals to help diagnose the problem with any process other than services.exe using memory.

I used sysinterals filemonitor to see LastGood.tmp directory has been read repeatedly.
After you have uninstalled CSC the problem has been resolved. »

Even with the effort to find the solution, it was better to reinstall.  Hope this solution helps others.

  • ESX 3.5 Service Console memory

I run an ESX 3.5 server and it has 800 MB of memory allocated to the service console. We use IPMonitor to monitor our servers and uses 750MO regularly for a while now. Is it necessary to upgrade the service console memory? Then the cause of performance problems?

    Thank you

    Scott

The important line is the + / cache line, which shows that you have 480 MB of free space.  You're golden and good to go.

Basically linux (which is the service console) will use 'extra' memory for caching, leading many monitoring programs to believe you have only 26 MB of free space in this case.  Recommend that you find a monitoring program that is more intelligent.

  • Memory almost full service console

    Hello

I recently increased to 800 MB service console memory. The hosts have been working well before and were not maxing out the initial amount of memory. But now its use about 770MB on all servers. When i run 'top' it lists 320 treaty most of them are webaccess. Is this normal?

    Thank you

You can use "swapon-s" or "cat/proc/swaps" to see your swap information.

Your output, you use for your extended partition, which you use to block 17769 blocks "1357 17769 131837422'.  This means that you have 0 space on your disk for additional file systems. You will live with a swap that is not 2 x your memory.  Not a good thing, but it won't really hurt you that much.

    Hello

You have a Tecra A8 PTA83E with processor Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2.0 GHz) processor and Intel 945GMS + Intel 82801GBM chipset?
Then maybe this page could clarify a few issues:

You must use DDR2 memory modules 667 MHz (PC2-5300).

You can also use this module:

    -2 GB DDR2 - 667 PA3513U-1M2G
    -1 GB DDR2-667 PA3512U-1M1G
    -512 MB DDR2 - 667 PA3511U - 1 M 51

I found this page on the Tecra 8200 memory modules:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=5841&ft=m&St=3

Looks like the Tecra 8200 would support Max 512 MB and you can use the 144-Pin PC133 SODIMM or memory SODIMM 144 pin PC100!

    I hope I could help a bit!

  • Tecra M2: can what memory I use?

    Dear Sir.
I posted a question previously about upgrading a laptop computer with more memory: when I check the toshiba site, they offer different types of modules to upgrade for a tecra M2: as 1024 MB PC 2700 PA 3313U-2M1G.
But for 512 MB, they offer two types of memory: one is PC 2700 PA 3312U - 2M 51 and also another, which I think in my opinion is faster: PC 2-4300 DDR2 (!) PA 3412U - 2M 51:
What of the latter: it is suitable for tecra m2? (because I want to order it online and place the module on mine)

    Thanks in advance
    Dr. Weekx R

    Hello

Well, I found information that you can use this memory module:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 1 M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 1 M 51)
    1024MO PC2700 (PA3313U-1M1G)

    PA3313U-1M1G is 1024MB DDR 333 MHz SODIMM / Specifications: PC2700

  • What metrics to use for memory capacity planning? Active or consumed (in request or use vROPS)

    Hey all,.

I was wondering once more what metrics to use for memory capacity planning. Since the information from different sources (for example your ESXi host needs more RAM to Iwan Rahabok or VMworld 2012: Session VSP1729 - virtualized memory understanding performance management - Eric Sloof - NTPRO.NL Kit Colbert) pointing all assets (vROPS request), I expect that when we have high memory consumption / use in vCenter there will be no balloon / compression / permutation.

Also the metric active / request should not be used for all workloads (e.g. Java / DB), why is - this? I have not found the reason of this anywhere, only the fact.

Other sources such as Mark Achtemichuk suggests using consumed/use, which is the opposite (Understanding Active Memory - VMware vSphere Blog - Articles VMware vSphere).

So I thought I'll with active / demand as metric and ignoring the warnings inside of vCenter.

But the last time we have fixed half of our group, we had consumed/high memory usage and the vCenter began to inflate, compress, and finally to Exchange. Not a lot but I had not expected that, because memory active was only a small percentage of consumed.

Can someone explain to me why this happened and who is right on this issue.

    Kind regards

    jengl

jengl I don't know if you asked the wrong question, or I give the wrong answer :-)

It is always good to attach screenshots, background to the issues, and what exactly you are trying to solve.

    You wrote:

    So to summarize:

-ESXi uses consume to decide when to start the recovery techniques of memory RAM

-To rightsize VMs for RAM, you must use the counter inside the BONE, not active

-If you do not want to commit too much RAM and have a lot of the balloon you should right-size your virtual machines or extend the RAM / buy additional servers

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My answer: you are right. If you do not have access to the guest operating system, then Active VM and VM consumed are better guess. Better than nothing :-)

Sizing sizing of VM and ESXi are 2 different things (2 use cases) different. Please don't mix up the as soon as they are confusing. Do not try to resize the virtual machine when you are sizing the ESXi, unless you have a control total on them.

    You wrote:

The question for me is: how many cache (standby under Windows) inside the VM is really necessary for the virtual machine to get the best performance without wasting resources. Perhaps this issue can be resolved only by tests or do you know another option?

My answer: it's a different topic brother :-) It is different, because it is within a guest operating system (Windows in this case) and is no longer at the level of the ESXi. Suggest that post you another, possibly under Windows or vSphere too :-)
