service or group of addiction was able to start; Cannot start the diagnostic policy service
I have windows vista Home premium. I did have a problem connecting to internet before. So today, I can't connect to my router, either by wireless or ethernet. The router is fine, because my roommates are able to connect. The signal is also excellent, but my computer is "connected with limited access". The message I get is: 'unknown connection status. The dependency service or group was able to start. "" When I click on diagnose and repair, it says Network Diagnostics cannot run because the Diagnostics Policy Service is not running "then it gives me the option to open the Service Control Manager to manually start the diagnostic policy Service. This opens a window of Services with a huge list of things I don't understand. I searched for solutions to the problem, and none have worked. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk!
It is possible that the permissions on a specific registry key has changed. You can try to correct this by clicking on start, type regedit in the prompt, do a right click the program regedit and select run as administrator. In the registry editor, click the arrow to expand the selection, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Services, DPS, on the right, click settings and click Permissions. In the permissions screen, select the user TrustedInstaller . If you do not see the TrustedInstaller user, click Add, type NT TrustedInstaller service and press OK. If make sure that permissions full control and read are checked for the TrustedInstaller user.
Let us know if that helps.

Windows cannot start the Diagnostic Policy on the local computer service
Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.
Not sure, but sounds similar to this old post - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/error-1079-windows-could-not-start-the-diagnostic/c0fad337-6f2f-47d5-8a27-ab52f337b222
who can help or give some advice in the right direction at least. Good reading (Handbook for your service) and see what you think.
If you change whatever it is, try to note what change you or save your PC first, so you can change it if it does not help.
OR, if it has recently started to happen, try a restore point to a date just before that the problem started.
If this isn't the case, I hope that someone else will offer you something to try soon.

I am not able to start some services to get connected wireless. In Device Manager the poster adapter works correctly. The WIFI light is on. Start Windows Wireless Service bar lights up, but the service does not just start. I have run chkdsk and several other parts but registry cleaners I keep coming up empty. Help, please.
I've been sarching for hours and hours... and it's already after hours of working offline with the client in their home... no restoration of the system or the backups... typical noob... but not their fault it happened... I did EVERYTHING suggested. Nothing has worked... Almost abandoned and prepared for a re - install... then I found it at the last second...
«OMG 911techmedics...» You're crazy GENIUS!
Finally, something works and does not require a complete reinstall of the OS. I was so scared of it because Asus does not save a physical copy of the Recovery Manager on the hard drive, and somehow my backup discs (6 disks, waste of my DVD: O) don't work at all after spending an hour by burning.
What happened was I used RegTweaker to do a cleaning of registry on my Win7, my computer worked faster, but I lost my WLan service and no matter what I was doing nothing worked, until I stumbled upon your post! I have read more than 50 pages of Web/forum sites and tried probably suggested and none of them worked.
I tried:
(1) Microsoft Winsock32 Fix
(2) replacing Winsock dll
(3) Yes Netsh wlan with the set command
(4) order of Netsh reset catalog
(5) LSP Fix.exe
(6) right click 'Manage' on computer and everything related to the WLAN + dependencies on "automatic".I spent 8 hours and none of the above worked. Apparently a lot of people have the same problem after using a registry cleaner. He has tried, tested and proven. I did the registry cleaning on 2 computers and next thing I know on reboot, it is that the WLAN Service went AWOL. My first suspicion is gone to a missing or corrupted Winsock, but I never thought that a simple change of 2 files in the registry would solve the problem. Your piece of text was scary to look at in the beginning, but I was so desperate that I was willing to try anything and it really paid off. Microsoft should pay you the man! Their stupid suggestions do not work. For those who like me, I break down the instructions for you:
Step 1: Click the button START
Step 2: In the search box, type "regedt32" (of course, do not include the ""), right-click on the result of the research and the "Run as Administrator".Step 3: Click 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE', should extend out to a list of things
Step 4: Next, choose 'SYSTEM', is expected to increase again
Step 5: Choose "CurrentControlSet", develops again
Step 6: Select 'Services', develops into a great big list of thingsStep 7: Click on "Dhcp", the right window shows the files in this folder
Step 8: Double click on "DependOnService".
Step 9: Remove all the words in the text, except "Afd" box, and then click OK. You are done hereStep 10: Then under 'Services', are looking for "EapHost", this should be a few records below Dhcp step 11: same thing, double-click on the file "DependOnService".
Step 12: Delete everything in the text are and click OK. You are finished. Now close everything and RESTART WINDOWS. Your WLan should be back and work once at startup of your computer. Hope that makes you win like he saved me. Thanks to an original poster for the wonderful of the resolution. Your message has been almost too obscure to find, but I'm glad that this has been RESOLVED! I will be passing the word around to save people from the constant agony of WLAN SVC goes ballistic every time after a cleaning the registry. »
Now then... I was about to wipe the machine flowering in any case, I thought ' what the *', and just did the 12 steps without even a reg backup... AND THIS DO FEAR WORKED!
911techmedics saved our skins...
Thank you!!!

Error 5 in Services.I trying to start the Diagnostic Policy Service.
Cannot start political diagnosis Service.ACCESS NIÉ window appears. I am trying to run Diagnos and Repair.I think I badly configured in the properties of the PERMISSION settings.
Hi paulyalejo,
The error means "access denied." This can occur if the 'MpsSvc' account does not have the necessary permissions for the registry keys concerned.
Please follow the steps in the KB article below:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/943996
For the service 'Service of diagnosis political', the problem may occur when the Trustedinstaller account is missing permissions for the key below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DPS\Parameters
Is the necessary permission: full control, read. Follow the resolution given in the link above.
Hope this information is useful.

Hi Jason,
1. What is the brand and model of the computer network adapter?

All the following services must be so configured to use ICS:
Application Layer Gateway Service
Network connections
Knowledge of the network (NLA) locations
Plug-And-Play

TelephonyAfter checking and automatic startup for each of these services configuration, close the Services window and restart the computer before trying again to enable ICS.

Connection status: unknown. The dependency service or group was able to start.
Greetings! I have a year old Dell Inspiron. Everything worked fine last night, but when I woke today I couldn't connect to the internet. When I put the cursor on the network icon, it says "connection status: unknown." The dependency service or group was able to start. "My Windows Firewall is also disabled and I can't activate it automatically or manually. In addition, the Windows Diagnostic tool cannot be turned on, and whenever I try to activate the Diagnostic Policy Service it also can not be done. It says "error 5: access is denied" when I try to turn it on manually.
My antivirus (Avira) software is fully up to date from last night. I even took it into Best Buy and they did a diagnostic test to ensure that a virus is not the cause. The guy there said it was a software problem. I tried resetting TCP/IP (netsh winsock reset) without success. I also tried sfc/scannow in safe mode and windows without success. Are there other options?
Thanks in advance.
Restore point:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/
Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
See you soon.
