Set up a wall of fire on a group of work when it is connected to a local network

I work at a large company that has a LAN with internet connected to it. In my Office I have 3 PC connected to a same workgroup but different from other working groups.

I want to set up a firewall on my workgroup to prevent external access to my files. How can I do? or is it possible to set up a password for my workgroup?

My PC is running xp2 professional win.

Help me with that.

Working groups do not provide any type of security on a network.  A computer in any working group can access a computer in any working group.  There is no firewall or passwords for the working groups.

I recommend that you ask the people who run the company LAN how to do what you want.  They will know if it is possible and to ensure that what you are compatible with the local network.

  • What is the setting on a laptop to be able to close the cover when you are connected to a monitor?

After a catastrophic situation on my laptop, I got the disc re formatted and reloaded a new operating system.

    I'm trying to rebuild.

Previously, I had the configuration of the laptop so that when I closed the lid, it remained running so I can use my external monitor.

Now when I close the lid, the laptop switches mode pause.

I know there is a place to set up, but I'm not.

This requires that you are under W7.

Go to "Control Panel" and find "Power Options."

In the left column, find "closing the cover to choose."

You will find what you need there.

Where is the setting to warn users to "information you entered must be sent over an unencrypted connection"?

The settings for warning messages have been removed from the UI (Bug 513166).
You must change preferences related security.warn_* directly on the topic: config page.

    Filter: security.warn

You can check the security.warn_submit_insecure pref on the topic: config page.

Date and me are dealt with by the network. Try restarting your router/modem...

Verify that DNS is set to auto

Make sure port 123 is open on the router (refer to the manual of the router to you)

  • Setting up a local network private through the device that extracts public wifi internet

I travel a lot in a RV I don't have a continuous Internet connection wherever I go, usually a public wifi some Camping I am for. I have several devices that I use, but I don't want that they are open to the public wifi network. I've had people send photos from their phone to my Xbox so that I use and I want to be more secure and control my devices.

I have a knowledge of basic networking. I was able to use my laptop to connect to a public wifi and then share the connection through Windows on the LAN ethernet port. I then connect that to my old Netgear DGND3700v2 DSL model with its DHCP function disabled. It worked for several months now, and I am able to connect to the ports of my router modem and lan with my devices. But some games on the xbox does not work because I can't redirect ports or control static and other IP addresses. I think that there should be a much easier way to do it.

I looked in my router Repeater functions, but I don't think that's the way I need to go. I have no access to the routers of the campsites configure them as bases. I need something that will pull simply bind an existing wifi and then deliver this private to my LAN connection.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It worked perfectly. I bought a Netgear AC1200 and easily plugged into the local public wifi. I then wired to the LAN cable/Fiber gray on the Netgear router port and then reset the router ran smart installation thereon and he set up hands down with a new local network on a separate ip address range. Now all my devices independently connect to my router via wifi or LAN and use internet through the Extender without that person outside to get in and I don't have my laptop of aging on all the time to do so.

-Check the log of events as recommend it.  It shows?

Try running sfc/scannow in an elevated command prompt.  (It may or may not solve it).

If that doesn't help and you have a Windows installation media you can try to perform an upgrade installation.  (It's the closest equivalent to the resettlement on-site that could be done under XP).

I fixed a number of computers at this point with this kind of damage caused by the Sirfef.  In a recent case on a XP system, a repair on-site installation was the only solution that worked.  It is very difficult to ascertain what further damage of the registry may be present.

  • How can I temporally tell-able wall of fire in order to load a certain website?

    Ideas:

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

Remember - this is a public forum so never post private information such as numbers of mail or telephone!

You should not have to disable the firewall to access a Web site and doing so exposes you to risks. That being said, to turn off the Windows firewall open Control Panel > Windows Firewall (or depending on your operating system security center > Windows Firewall) turn on the Windows Firewall off.

    Hello

To add to the good advice of Malkeleah:

Here's what I use and recommend:

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)

Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
    http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    I hope this helps.
