setting up wrt150N as access point

Hello.. Please bare with me.
In my previous House, I had my cable modem connected to a dlink wireless router. I used a port on the dlink lan and connected to my wrt150n that is configured as an access point. It has worked flawlessly. I was able to create a network and share files between computers regardless of what router they were physically connected to.

Fast forward a year and in my new House, I have a dlink WIRED router connected to my modem (different ISP) and to a lan port on the router im connected to the port of the wrt150n 'internet '. The computer is connected to the 150n can access the internet and the portion wireless works fine, but it does not connect to another computer that is connected directly to the router wired dlink.

From the computer connected to the linksys, I can;

router dlink ping

router linksys ping

ping ip address ONLY, the second computer that is connected to the dlink router

The computer connected to the dlink, I can;

router dlink ping

I can not ping ip address AND name of the other computer

I cannot ping the router linksys

Is happening here?

What setting should I watch these two computers to be on the same home network?

Dlink ip address is 192.168.0.1

Address IP Linksys is 192.168.1.1

He was installing it in my old House and worked well.

Unfortunately, my warranty is up and linksys don't offer me a tech support.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I really need my home network courses.

It's just the way you have implemented: you configured the WRT as router and so you have created two separate LAN segments and areas of broadcasting. Emissions of LAN will not cross a router. Name resolution for the WIndows work group works on the basis of emissions, either it works on the same segment of LAN never beyond a router. For example, if you want to keep this type of installation, you will need to use the IP address to connect to computers on the Dlink from computers on the WRT. Reverse is not possible at all because the WRT does NAT which makes LAN inaccessible on the internet port.

You want only the WRT as access point and you seem to want connectivity complete between all your computers I would say that you reconfigure the WRT.

1. disconnect the WRT from D-Link.

2. connect a computer to the WRT. Open the web interface at http://192.168.1.1/

3. on the main configuration page, change the address LAN IP of 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.2 and disable the DHCP server.

4. save the settings. You will lose the connection.

5. unplug the computer and wire to one of the LAN ports of the WRT to your D-Link router.

That's all. Now all your computers to connect to the same local network and are in the same broadcast domain. All computers use IP addresses * 192.168.0 and have internet through D-Link.

Make sure that the DHCP server on the D-Link will not affect 192.168.0.2 to another computer or device on your network. This would cause a conflict of IP address.

  • can I use a laptop to set up a wifi access point?

When I first received a laptop of opportunity in last December, a colleague tech at my night school mentioned that I didn't have to buy a 803,11 access point device to plug my switch, but I rather use a WiFi card on my computer to create my own access point. I told him I have such a card and put a little out of my mind.

However, I have someone outside to spend the night at my place, and he needs to check his e-mail. Unfortunately, it seems that the RJ-45 socket on his laptop is broken, I have tried several cables and impossible to get a connection, including the cable to connect the computer I'm using now.

Is it possible that I can use ICS on XP Pro (preferred) or Vista 32 bit Home Premium (really want to use it, I have never set the boot loader after the upgrade to XP on a separate partition, especially because XP has worked so much better) to set up enough connectivity for him to connect to the mail server?

Should I Windows 7 or Vista to do this? I know how to do the reverse quite easily (share Wi-Fi on the Ethernet port), but I don't know how to set up the SSID and others. I would assume same WEP or WPA2 (Yes, I know how it is easy to crack, but it's better that transmitting passwords in clear text because it discourages occasional interception) would too, so it will accept a connection open, unencrypted. I'll just close access once it does.

How could I go to set it up? I'm not spending money on software that is not free for one night, one-shot deal. Kiss, I just need a connection of bare bones for him. If its Ethernet port was working, I would leave him to plug my switch, but since it's not I need to create a gateway using what material I have on hand, and the only device with any kind of ability 803.11 is my own laptop.

I know it's possible, I don't know if this is something only Linux, or a solution that requires 3rd party software.

Yes, you can use ICS.  See http://practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/

    I forgot to include this--> http://www.home-network-help.com/ad-hoc-wireless-network.html

You will need to configure security manually from the properties of maps dialog box wireless (on both computers) and IIRC, you can use WEP in ad-hoc XP networks.

    Go to the correct place
Right click on the wireless adapter icon and select Properties
    Click the wireless networks tab
Click Add to create a configuration
in the 'Association' tab, set the SSID, network authentication 'Open' and WEP data encryption.
It's been so long that I made that I remember exactly, but I think you can use only the 10 digit Hex key.

  • Set up the wireless access point, but the wireless devices are unable to get ip address

Hi, I wanted to put my D7000 as router AP. My main router is Sagemcom F@st 3864 by Optus ISP (Australia).

First of all, I put the D7000 in Bridge mode I did these steps:

    1. replace the IP LAN 192.168.0.100

    2 disable DHCP

    3. connect the LAN port to the main router Lan port

Internet connection wired and wireless on the same device but other wireless devices has failed

To remedy this, I made another choice, allowing point-to-point wireless access in the advanced settings of the D7000. I followed the instructions from this link

    http://KB.NETGEAR.com/app/answers/detail/A_ID/24104/~/how-do-i-change-my-Nighthawk-router-to-AP-mode...

I put dynamiccaly = wireless internet cable success but peripheral does not have an ip address

No idea how to fix wireless? I'm not very experienced

    Thank you!

I just fixed it just now. For AP mode, connect the LAN port of the main router to the WAN port on the D7000 (not LAN to LAN). I wish I thought to it much sooner.

  • Implementation of access point with WRT54GL

    Hi all

I am very new to this wireless networking thing.

I'm having some trouble with my wireless router.  My ISP gave me a wireless Huwaei modem but I live in a two-story apartment and modem from the ISP plays well on the second floor, the signal is very weak.

My problem here is that I am trying to use my router to broadcast the signal to the floor.

Is it possible to set up an access point with my Wi - Fi router?

My idea is that the router would be placed in another part of the apartment and clone the signal from the modem wi - fi and move this signal. I want to place the wireless router in the second floor.

    Such an action is possible?

Thank you very much for your help.

You can set the WRT54GL as Access Point, both your two routers must be wired to the other...

To make the two routers are wireless, is not not possible.

For both routers works between them, connect the Ethernet cable between the LAN Port of your Modem to the Lan 1 Port on the Linksys router. Click here and follow the instructions how do your Linksys router works with your Modem.

    Hi Manas,

What is the brand and model of the Wireless Router/Access Point?

Given that the issue has not persisted in Windows 7, there is a chance that the wireless router/Access Point is not compatible with Windows 8.

  • Set up home network of multi access point

Recently, I cut the string so to speak with directv and is passed to a streaming cable through view PlayStation. However this left me with a little slower network I want to. I have a 3-storey house in a crowded area and my cable modem is on the lower floor.

Currently, I have a linksys ea3500 connected to a modem cable in the basement. I have a family room on floor 2, where I connected PlayStation. On the third floor, I have a Roku in the bedroom for live tv broadcast and also a Home Office.

I can work around 70mbps down when connected via Ethernet to the ea3500 on the ground floor, but a signal wirelessly on the second floor is about 25mbps down and falls to 15 or so away on the third floor.

I ordered a new router (wrt 1900ACS) and also a netgear powerline 1200 kit. My plan is to connect the line adaptor to the ea3500 and place another line on two ground adapter. To which I would link the wrt 1900 and run as an access point for the existing network. I would also link the PlayStation to the wrt1900 through cat 5 to improve the reliability of the connection.

My hope is that this will greatly increase my speed of download available in the House. We are connected fairy and at any time have probably 10 to 15 devices (tablets, phones, laptops, TVs, desktop, nest, etc.)

Given my current gear (and the warning that I won't have to run wires through the wall or through the vents) is the configuration I describe the best way to increase the signal strength and bandwidth bandwidth/speed? Does it matter if I use the new wrt 1900acs as a slave to the ea3500, since it will be connected via the power line to the ea3500 lan port? Should I just unplug the ea3500 and only use the 1900acs on the Middle floor and connect the power supply line direct adapter to the cable modem?

Any idea to my plan or recommended changes to my plan would be appreciated!

It's good then let the EA3500 and add the WRT1900ACS in via PowerLine Bridge Mode.

  • How to set up the access point 1602 I just bought

    Hello world

Hope you can help. I just bought an AIR-SAP1602I-A-K9 with an internet provider. With her, I also bought a power injector. I tried to use it as a standalone AP. It does not come with any instruction, and I'm not good at Wifi config. I hope you can help... My requirement of adjustment is very simple:

-Create and broadcast the SSID called MYCSL

N ' not no authentication or encryption. (is this open authentication?... so that people just plug the SSID as the user can start to cruise internet without putting in any key.)

-The access point does not have a static ip assigned, instead, he gets an IP from one of my dhcp server in the network.

-How to connect my laptop to configure via web http?

Can you tell me what should be configured? Although it is a new product from a legitimate retailer... Cisco said that they could not support it without any contract of Starnet... as a consumer... they should give the kind of grace period to support the new products... In any case, hope you can help me out here :)

I thank very you much for your help in advance.

  • My Airport Time Capsule can act as a WIRELESS access point

    Hello.

I brought a Time Capsule with my Mac Pro. It worked well since yesterday.

I have set up the time Capsule as a WIFI, bypass at my local network access point. There is a router (cable) works at home.

It's my Mac Pro AirPort Utility and my iPhone, my Time Capsule is displayed with an exclamation point saying "device not found". I can't connect to the disk on this subject by afp share, or smb. Time Machine function is gone too. He failed trying to connect to the share drive from another computer connected to the time Capsule by cable network.

But at the same time, WiFi works well.

I tried to recycle energy. Sharing disk will be available. But if I start the Time Machine backup, it will not be a few seconds.

    Any idea?

    Thank you.

There are several posts here related the issue.

Luckily, you have set up your new Time Capsule for Back to My Mac (BTMM)?

If so, the 'temporary' solution is to delete/disable the option of the CCMM, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the base and then station, select change.
    • On the tab of the Base Station, go back to the section of my Mac at the bottom of the window.
    • If you have entries here, select it and click then the minus sign "-" button to remove it.
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.

If you have not enabled CCMM, we have other options for you to try.

  • Time Capsule bridge and access point?

    Hello

I have a question about the network wireless of my TC. Our provider has installed a new router. These router can not work as bridge, telephone and TV are also connected to this router. Because 2 wifi networks do not work, I wonder what is the best set-up for the network? The Capsule is connected to the router by ethernet. It is configured as a gateway. Before I used the TC to connect to internet. Now, I have disabled the wi - fi function and use the ISP connection. It looks good, only backups are a little slow now.

-What is the best configuration for the TC in an existing network? So that I can put it off the wireless of the TC or the ISP router: can I use the TC-wifi (create a new network) or wifi existing ISP router to connect with wireless devices?

-Do I lose speed when I'm with 2 devices on my network: TC as the ISP as a router and Access Point.

(I always thought that 1 unit for router and access point is the best configuration.)

-Are faster backup copies using the TC wireless or it does not matter when I backup on the wireless ISP?

Some maybe stupid questions, but thanks in advance. Greetings.

Because 2 wifi networks do not work

Many people think that this is the case... but this isn't so.

You can use several wireless networks... all attached to the same router. There is enough bandwidth available in the channels wireless for the operation of 3 different wireless networks nearby each other... and using 5 GHz adds much more.

The Capsule is connected to the router by ethernet. It is configured as a gateway. Before I used the TC to connect to internet. Now, I have disabled the wi - fi function and use the ISP connection. It looks good, only backups are a little slow now.

The configuration of TC in bridge is correct.

Do not turn off the TC wireless... Provide a different name for the ISP wireless router and connect your computer... then you can get internet and make backups on the TC without overloading the ISP router wireless.

-What is the best configuration for the TC in an existing network? If I disable the wireless of the TC or the ISP router:

Turn on Wi - Fi in both.

A physical configuration, it is recommended to have say separation of 1 M (3 feet) between the ISP router and the TC to a min. But it would be even better to have the TC at near the Mac who performs backups TM and related to the ISP router with ethernet.
