  I have classes of 30 students asked by their teacher to clone a configuration that he has prepared and shared for the Group at the beginning of a lesson. Students see the error "the selected object is currently busy. Try again in a few minutes. "When more than one person tries to clone at the same time the same configuration of the library to their workspace.  Them work around is to clone one after the other, but it takes time and coordination, the success of which depends on the enthusiasm of the Group! Is this (the busy status message!) expected behavior?

  It has nothing to do with the resource pool. Only one operation at a time can be made on a single object. A configuration is considered to be a single object. If a configuration is being cloned, the entire configuration will be locked in a State until the clone is finished.

• VLM - Testers checking debug licenses instead of deployment.

  We currently use VLM 3.1 with a limited number of licenses of debugging, and a large number of deployment licenses.  Some of our testers seem to insist on pulling debug licenses, even when running through the interface of the user logged in as operator.  The two switch Executive 3.0 and teststand 3.5 seem to be guilty of this.  VLM is currently the Setup based on computer, not the user.

  I did a little more research into what happened with your deployment/debug licenses.  I have come across some good information on why this is happening.  We have an internal document that indicates that it is a known problem in TestStand 3.5.  It has to do with the operator TestStand 3.5 Interface correctly attempts to extract the TestStand_InstEngine in the license of the Package of basic deployment, but incorrectly then try to check a feature available in the TS Debug Deployment license.

  This will happen only if one of the following conditions is met:

  • The VLA has unmanaged for debugging concurrent licenses.
  
  
  • The computer/user who tries to order the license has permissions for a license with the option to deploy.

  To solve this problem you will need to create a service request.

  We have 5 tiara concurrent license. Now is mounted in use and I find myself being frequent "who uses licenses" so as to address users who may have checked out a license but are not needing more. Or not as desperately as another user.

  I tried to read the log file, but it contains a long list of mixed entries. Screening on the licenses that have been checked, but not yet once, it is almost impossible.

  Y at - it a simple method to see the users or IP addresses or computer names are at this time using the licenses?

• EVAL expired license

  Have a client with ESX3.5 and they have an eval license installed on their server.  The license has expired, and now all hosts are disconnected from the host of vc.  Got a new license of VMware but the license can not be read by the license service.  Have you tried several different licenses, but none of them are read correctly by the license service.

  The result is the problem of the license expires?  I also noticed that the VMware license service does not remain in the services.msc.  I started the service and he died immediately.

  Licensing ESX Server is a pretty wicked thing from time to time. Once it works it will never stop again, but in this kind of situation, it can be very embarrassing. If all else fails, just uninstall the license service, reboot, then reinstall the license server. It is done in 5 minutes, and the installer will ask the LIC file and put in the right place for you.

  Sometimes it's just easier to reinstall instead of troubleshooting for half a day :)

  If we have 1 a license of Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter, can it apply to virtual machines on all 3 of our hosts?

  Or Ms. requires 1 DC license per host?

  The answer is you haven't - it's MS terminology to say, if they visit you - you must be able to show you have enough licenses for the MS OS and apps you run - this includes your virtual environment. This is why "assigned" is in inverted commas - just to prove that you have licenses for each host.

  If it is undertaken then it is 4 vm by license and you can 'assign multiple' business in a single esx host licenses, or buy data center OS licenses and they allow for unlimited VM-but are authorized by socket CPU in the esx host that serves and again you can "assign" datacenter several OS licenses to an ESX host, based on the number of processor sockets that are populated from this server.

  Regarding the vmotion, HA and DRS - I wish you had not asked! -If you use licenses to datacenter for guests, then this isn't a problem, as you have unlimited VM.

  If it was enterprise edition or standard edition and MS came calling then my understanding is - and this is based on conversations with people from licensing MS internally and with Ms. They determine that since you have vmotiuon enabled, you are able to move VMS autour more than once in a period of 90 days (this is important because it is in the BONE, T & C), so according to the scale of your virtual environment and which way the wind blast when a MS rep comes to call depends on what they say - they may decide to buy a few more licenses to cover a possible imbalance in your grant of license or to go away happy. Sorry, it is not more precise than that - but MS are making up the rules that they go along and that is why if the cost analysis is equivalent to go with datacenter licenses, I recommend visitors take this option and then any problem with the MS OS licenses disappears.

  Looks like you need a volume for education Adobe license... that allows you to run the suite on several computers of the two platforms with a serial number for each operating system, all with a single purchase.

• We have more than one PC connected to the same (IMAP) account, there is an error sending server and works as a single computer at a time.
