The amount, he can use isn't always 3.2 GB. It varies depending on what

you have the hardware.

All versions of Windows 32-bit client (XP/Vista/7 not only) have a 4GB

address space (64-bit versions can use much more). It's the

theoretical upper limit beyond which you cannot go.

But you can't use the whole address space. Even if you have a

4 GB address space, you can use about 3. 1 GB of RAM. It's

because some of the space is used by the hardware and is not available for

operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but can

range from as little as 2 GB to 3.5 GB. It's usually around

3. 1 GB.

Note that the hardware is using the address space, not the real

The RAM itself. If you have a larger amount of RAM, the rest of the RAM

goes unused because there is no address to map space to.

32-bit systems (no matter if its Win 7) Win XP, Vista etc.) supports only 3.2 GB of RAM
    It is the 32-bit boundary.

The other small part (300 MB roundabout) is shared by the graphics card.
Therefore, the system displays only 2.39 GB RAM

  • 4 GB of ram installed, but usable only 2.43 GB

    Hello.

Recently, I upgraded my new laptop (thinkpad L512: 2 GB of ram, originally) with a new 2 GB ram.

I was expecting to the usable memory must be at least 3 GB, but it appeared that only 2.43 GB is used.

I don't know why this is happening.

I checked the BIOS and changed the memory location two, but he showed that only 2.43 GB is used.

    Memory: 2 GB PC3 - 10600 DDR3 1333 MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM) SDRAM - 2 c.

    What's wrong?

Intel graphics card have no memory dedicated, but uses some of the computer's system memory. The amount of memory used for the graphics might be an amount fixed or may vary up to a maximum amount. It depends on if the computer manufacturer has configured the computer to use a fixed amount, a dynamic amount (ranging up to a maximum amount) or a combination of fixed and dynamic graphics memory amounts.

The amount of memory usable did you have before the upgrade to 4 GB?

What version of Windows are you using? It is 32-bit or 64-bit?

What is the model number of your computer (for example: 4029-3EG)?

  • Satellite A100: 2 GB of RAM installed, but Windows displays only 1.99 GB

    Hello everyone again

I've recently updated the ram in my A100-583 from 1 GB to 2 GB.
However, although the computer does not seem to run much faster, when I look at the properties of the system in the main general tab, it's only show that there is 1.99 GB it is a problem with the Ram, or is it just a glich with the System Properties window.

All other system checks indicate that there are 2 GB in the comp... The ram I installed is corsair ddr2 sodimm 667 mhz/pc25300.
    {Any help with this will be appreciated thanks in advance: 8}

I don t think that it is a problem of memory modules (RAM live).
    What is the BIOS reports?

Still that memory could be shared with the GPU (graphics card), and the windows OS also uses some of the memory

Don t you worry and there is everything ok ;)

It seems that if you did not put in a pair of identical bars or has not used the memry guaranteed compatible modules. You cannot use the module that was already there, unless you add is identical in every respect.

Use only guarantee modules in identical pairs if you want your upgrade memory to work right the first time.

  • Sat Pro P750 - 6 GB of RAM by default, but only 5, usable 16 GB

Hello! I just buyed a brand new Toshiba Satellite P750 for college and I really like it! It's a very good computer. But he seems to have a little problem. By default, the computer comes with 6 GB of ram installed, but in the control panel of the system, it shows 6 GB (usable 5.16). I heard that it can be problem like that if you try to have memory on a computer i7 based to heart. The thing is I had no memory, the computer comes with 6 GB. Windows 7 64 bit is installed.

Sorry for my English and thanks in advance!

To be honest I don t understand your problem. New notebook with factory settings is optimized to run stabile and Toshiba the guys who designed the recovery image set these options to provide portable performance best and stabile.

In my opinion you shouldn't change anything. Why don't you play with these settings?
Well equipped operating system Don t touch.

Optimize the operating system pre-installed for your needs and be happy.

  • 64 bit computer 8 GB of RAM but windows shows only usable 3.25

OK, I got the original 6GB (3x2gb) RAM (1600), installed on a MSI 880GM-E43 motherboard and a Phenom II X 4 (I think either 3.6 or 4.0 Ghz) and windows all read well. I buy a new motherboard Gigabyte 970 a - UD3 and another key to 2 GB RAM and install. Now when I go to windows, it says properties

"Memory (live RAM) installed: 8.00 GB (3.25 GB usable). So firstly that I went into the BIOS to check if it shows the correct information and he did. Then I changed my CPU speed clocked 3.4 to 4.0 Ghz. I loaded windows and he always says the same thing "memory (RAM) installed: 8.00 (3.25 GB usable)" and now, the processor has not changed either "processor: AMD Athlon (TM) II X 4 965 3.40 GHz processor". " I even reinstalled the new drivers and it still shows the same info.
    CAN ANYONE HELP!
    Specifications of the computer:
    Windows 7 Home Premium - 64-bit
    AMD Phenom II X 4 - 4.0GHz
Kingston HyperX Blu 8 GB (4x2Go)
    Gigabyte a 970 - UD3
    VisionTek Radeon HD 5750

Strangely, even if the memory is entered correctly, it stil reports way less. Don't know why but files seems to correct the problem...

No doubt you are overclocking... 'Properties' always reports the chip actually, not the speed it is running at a time. Was it to do, it is time when your chip would show at 800 mhz... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah... :-)

  • upgrade to 64-bit RAM of 2 GB installed (1.74 GB usable) to 4 GB installed (always 1.74 GB usable)

I recently replaced 2 sticks of 1 GB RAM in both slots of my HP G56-127NR Notebook PC with two new sticks of 2 GB of RAM in a system Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit, which was initially sold as expandable to 16 GB of RAM.  Each test diagnosis, I was able to find and run indicated that all 4 GB are good.  Information system on the computer indicates 4 GB has been installed, but on system properties, it displays "4.00 GB installed (1.74 GB usable).  I checked the BIOS and have no doubt that the latest available version is installed.  Everything seems to work fine except that he has not taken any speed and when you monitor the memory usage with Task Manager or resource monitor it shows quite clearly that the new memory is not used even if it is seen.  Resource monitor seems to indicate that he was caught for the material.  I have not changed any hardware (with the exception of the memory sticks) associated with this computer.  HP dodge the whole issue because they say it is beyond their life expectancy of support for this device?

    PML...

First of all, thank you for your response to my problem.  It (your answer) is very comprehensive and indicates you have given serious thought to my problem and did considerable work on my behalf.  I am deeply grateful.

Then, I'm happy to announce that I came across a solution and my problem is now solved.  Here's what I did for the real "fix". (I tried and did a lot of other things too numerous to list here and in fact worthless because they did not work)-

    1. I removed a barrette 2 GB two sticks that I bought to replace the two sticks of 1 GB supplied with the machine.  I was curious about whether it should start and he did it without any problem.  Once it has started, I checked the page system properties of the icon of the computer on the desk.  He then read 2,00 GB (1.74 GB usable), reading same exact I received on the two sticks of 1 GB before I replaced the and the same reading, also usable as, I received when I installed two sticks of 2 GB (what brought the question initially posed here).

    2. then, I inserted one of the old 1 GB sticks into the empty space next to the slot which is today one of the two new 2 GB sticks. When I started, the 3.00 GB (2, 74 GB usable) read system properties page.  AHA, installed now was correct and the usable increased accordingly.

    3. Finally, I pulled the one 1 GB stand out and replaced with the new second key of 2 GB.  When I started SHAZZAM, 4,00 (3.74 GB usable) GB read system properties page.

Resource Watch monitor now reserved for hardware dropped now 2.00 GB of memory (or else, is much, much lower than he was while the problem exists).

It's almost as if I launched or something in a pot and got to work.  Go figure?

As for some of your specific points-

    4. I had satisfactory experience with Crucial memory so this is where I went in the beginning and I found their analysis tool are excellent and they virtually guaranteed that what they sent me could / should be correct (they are DDR3).

    5. I ran each diagnostic test, that I could find on my machine starting with diagnostic tools in the BIOS.  Everything always showed equally good 4GBs.

Again, it is really cool to have experts like you PML, to monitor the forums/boards/community/whatever, to come to the rescue of those of us who do not have the necessary expertise.  As part of my little research on this problem, I came across a ton of entries, over several years and in many places of tech under headings of RAM can be used being significantly less than the RAM that is installed.  People came to the top with all kinds of things to look at and try, but I can never remember seen a suggestion to try something like what I did fix successfully what I was able to fix.  I hope that it might work for someone else too.

  • memory 8 GB installed but usable only 3.48

I have HP g7-1355dx notebook with Windows 7 64-bit operating system. I've increased the RAM to 4 GB to 8 GB.   The system says I have 8 GB memory installed but only 3.48 GB usable.  I am absolutely sure that I have 64-bit operating system and run msconfig and checked and unchecked the zone memory maximum.  I did a little research on google and did not understand what to do.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Wade

Thanks for the quick response.  After I posted my question I decided to spend the original 4 GB with the new 4 GB.  I don't know why, but everything is fine now.  Still, the system recognizes installed 8 GB but now 7,48 GB usable.   In retrospect I wished that I had tried this before you spend 10 + hours of research on the problem without success... even if making the switch seemed counterintuitive.  Hope this helps someone else.

  • 4 GB of ram shows 932 usable

I have a HP pavilion laptop windows 222tu G6 8. first I used win 7 64 bit, but the drivers were not compatible, so put on level to windows 8 pro. It has installed a system of 32-bit operating... I tried all possible measures, including the re install. I wanted to convert it to 64 bit win8. will that solve my problem or give me some ways to suggestions.

    Hi Shibinkta,

Method 1: I suggest you try the following steps.

    1. Hold down the Windows key and press R,.
    2. Type msconfig in the run (or the search box) and press ENTER.
    3. In Windows System Configuration, click the Startup tab,
    4. Click the Advanced Options button.
    5. Take off the box "Maximum memory,"
    6. Click OK,
    7. Click on apply, then OK to exit.
    8. Restart the computer for the change to take effect.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

    Updated THE system BIOS

The problem can occur because THE system BIOS is outdated. If you have an old computer, the system may be unable to access any of the installed RAM. In this case, you must update the BIOS OF THE system to the latest version.

To update the BIOS of your computer, visit the website of the manufacturer of your computer to download the update of the BIOS. Or contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

    Step 2:

    Check the BIOS settings

The problem can occur because some BIOS settings are incorrect.

    a. enable the memory remapping feature

I suggest you to check the BIOS settings to see if the memory remapping feature is turned on. Remapping memory access Windows for more memory. You can enable the memory remapping feature in the BIOS by starting the configuration of the system. See the Guide to your computer for instructions on starting the installation of the system on your computer. The name of the memory remapping feature may be different for different hardware vendors. This may be listed as remapping memory, memory expansion, or something similar. Don't forget that your computer can not supported the memory remapping feature.

Change the size of video opening AGP in BIOS settings

I suggest you to check the BIOS settings to display the amount of memory that you allocated to AGP video opening. It's the memory that shares with the video card that is used for texture mapping and make the system. This memory would not be served by the system, because it is locked by the video card. You can adjust the size of video opening AGP in BIOS. Standard settings are "32 MB," "64 MB", "128MB" and "Auto". After you change this setting in the BIOS, restart your computer and then check the usable memory. You can test each setting to see which offers the best results.

    WARNING:

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

    Method 3:

The problem can occur because there are problems with the physical RAM installed. Then

    Step 1:

Check if you have bad RAM memory

To check if you encounter this problem, turn off the computer, unplug the computer, and then swap the order of the memory.

    Step 2:

Make sure that the arrangement of memory is correct

Refer to the User Guide for the computer to determine in what order the modules of memory must be inserted in the memory locations. The system may ask you to use specific locations when you use not all the places available. For example, the computer has four available slots. But you may need to use the slot 1 and slot 3 If you want to use only two memory modules.

    Step 3:

Check if the memory cards spacers are used

If you use a pimple card memory to contain several modules of memory on the computer, the system may require specific configurations for this scenario. Therefore, usable memory may be less than expected.

    Hello

I hope someone out there can help me out. I bought the laptop mentioned above over the weekend. Memory std for this machine configuration is 3 GB of RAM, noticing that he had x 64 version of Windows, I went out and bought a 2 GB to bump up to 4 GB memory module. The machine, set up and checked the memory in system properties, it says 4 GB installed 3.87 GB usable. On further investigation, I found that 137MB of RAM was material reserved.

Is there anyway that I can get this comprehensive performance 4 GB RAM and back?

    Help, please.

    Hello

The small part of the main memory is locked by the graphics card.
GPU shares a small amount of RAM main. This is controlled automatically by driver graphics card, so you cannot modify it manually.
