  I had the same problem and I think that I have stopped running on the hp mediasmart webcam program every time Skype I videocall. In Skype (v4), I went to tools > options > video settings and there is a webcam selection menu. In this menu, I deselected HP MediaSmart Webcam who appeared there and chose HP Webcam. This seems to have done the trick.

  My camera guard deactivation in Skype. I join a call and all is well. I can see my videos of friends and everything, but when I enable my camera it seems to start loading, but after 5 secconds it disappears and the button greys out video. I have to restart the call to make it reappear.
