SLEEP OUTSIDE HARD DRIVES

Didn't know which community to report the issue.  If one does not, please inform the one who is.

I have an older model of Mac Pro MacPro5, 1 (see details below) with two Drobo external hard drives that never go to sleep. "Put hard drives to sleep when possible" is checked in the preferences > energy saver and computer sleep together in 15 minutes. I noticed that Time Machine keeps hourly backups for 24 hours.  Could Time Machine prevent external drives to fall asleep?  If not, where should I look to isolate this questions?  Jerry

  • My hard drive will not close in mode 'sleep'

My hard drive runs continuously when my iMac 2011 model is put into mode 'sleep' or expires in mode 'sleep'. I guess that's the drive I can hear something quietly spinning inside.and computer is a little warm. It started only in recent weeks. Before that, the computer has been completely silent and gave off no heat. the operating system is El Capitan.

    Hello, Blue Roses,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that you have a problem with the hard drive of your iMac running when your computer goes into mode 'sleep'. I know how it is important to make sure you slowed down your drive hard when you have to. I'll be more than happy to help you with this.

You can activate the option "Put hard drives to sleep when possible" in preferences energy saver of your iMac by following this path: Apple menu > System Preferences > energy saver > put a check mark next to hard drives was able to sleep when possible. Once you have enabled this, test and see if you get the same result with the rotation of the hard drive.

The following article contains more information on energy-saving preferences:

Preferences of OS X El Capitan: energy saving

If you still have a question after that, try to start your computer in safe mode and create a new user to see if you get the same result in both. This can help to identify the problem of the current user and the whole system. The following articles will help:

OS X El Capitan: start in safe mode

OS X El Capitan: set up users on your Mac.

  • Out of the blow of sleep when the HARD drive password used on Portege R700

    Hello
    I just got a DLI R700 with Win 7 Pro 64-bit
I have a very annoying problem because it must be plus 1 minute to accept the password after the resumption of the mode standby. It would be faster out of the hibernation!
So he wakes up from his sleep in a second, then you can enter the password without any problem but you just can't click on the arrow or press on enter up to what more than one minute. Similarly, it will accept even fingerprints directly at the exit (you get the green check mark) after wake but then expects just over one minute to move in the opening session on the desktop screen.

Through a process of account, I worked on what was going on...
Only, it crashes when you have the password on resume from sleep. CV password sleep turn out and he throws back in Office windows in seconds of wake
This does not happen to resume from hibernation or reboot - scan of fingerprints or password is entered, then goes right into the office in a few seconds
I started uninstalling software fingerpint, vap, power, toshiba - nothing always security management the same. Then I realized the password HARD drive - which was defined using the security of Toshiba and deleted using the same, has been still enabled in the bios. I have this off and everything works fine. I reinstalled the vap, power management and fingerprint software and everything is always very well, so it was defnitely the HARD drive password.
Now it's really fake I want to have a RESUME from sleep password and HDD password protection - I have to choose between one or the other, unless I want to wait more than a minute each time he wakes from sleep which is a real pain! So it's clearly a bug in HARD drive password settings, probably in the bios? I have the latest BIOS installed.
Any ideas on how to get this sort?

Does anyone else have this problem with be either 32-bit or 64-bit. Or everyone doesn't have this problem, that is to say that they hear HARD drive password AND he wakes with password ok in a few seconds?
    Thank you

    Hey Buddy,

It's really hard to say something about what I can only say that I can t noticed this problem on my Windows installation.

By the way: you are using the version Windows from Toshiba or your own installation of Windows?

Theoretically, it could be a problem to install Windows or disc itself are you able to test another installation of HARD drive or windows that you can make sure it is not a software problem?

  • External USB HARD drive Stor.E basics Sleep Mode

    Hi all
Recently, I bought Stor.E Basics 500 GB USB 3.0 external hard drive to store my archives of work (mainly the .docx and .xls formats).
During my work after maybe 5 or 10 minutes, my drive HARD past in mode "sleep" and it takes time to wake up my drive and resave the file. Is there a solution to my problem? I need to disable the Sleep Mode.

    A few things I've tried:
    (1) I tried to use 'Always On' profile in the control panel power option
    (2) off "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" devices-online all storage devices Usb root Manager.
    (3) and also disk management-properties-hardware-online HARD drive-online policies online online => optimize for performance.

    OS - Windows XP SP3.
    PS Sorry for my English.

Do you have the same HDD like this one?
    http://www.Toshiba-multimedia.com/EU/store-external-hard-drives/basics/

This HARD drive has need of 900mA power supply.
This means that you need a USB 3.0 standard or 2 x USB 2.0 ports

I think that if your computer supports support only USB 2.0, you must use the USB cable to Y which allows you to connect 2 USB ports HARD drive.

  • What happens to my hard drive using the 'sleep'?

    Hello

Could u please let me know what happens on my drive hard when I put it in mode 'sleep'? It stops altogether? or maybe just slows down?
    WIndows 7 operating system
    Satellite A660 - 18

A power saving of operation in which all unnecessary components are closed. Many devices running on batteries, such as laptops, supports a standby mode. When a laptop goes into sleep mode, it stops the screen and hard drive. Once awakened, the computer returns to its previous status of operation.

Yes, the HARD disk stops altogether, but after turning on your laptop, you can continue your work.
Launch multiple applications and use the key combination FN + F3 to mode 'sleep'. After a few minutes, press power button / stop and you will see what happens.

  • T410 fails to wake up from his sleep with the installed 2nd hard drive?

Since I installed a second hard drive in my T410, a 250 GB Hitachi drive, my machine can't seem to wake from sleep (sometimes)... So, I have to do a hard reset.

I had the same problem without the 2nd disc when I tried to use the HD password in BIOS and discovered that it was something to do with the disc Crucial M4 I use. But this same problem happening now since using the 2nd disc slot.

Any ideas? I really like the extra storage space and won't remove based on this problem.

Well it seems that the problem was caused by the version of the firmware for the SSD I installed it.

The problem has been solved by updating the M4 Crucial SSD with the latest firmware...

.. .and it solved the HD1 password issue too.

  • No device found Boot and a hard drive to sleep

    Hello

    I bought an Acer Aspirve V3 - 771 G - 736 b 1287, and he is now 6 days.

I have 2 drives here. An SSD and HDD (http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4384/setupb.png)

Monday, I had my first problem with the laptop.

When I tried to boot up the laptop, he gave me a warning "not found no boot device, press a button. So I went for the first time and all bios reset default settings.

Everything was fine until today. I encountered the same problem ("' not found no boot device, press a key" ") and tried to reset the BIOS to the default settings, it did not work. Then I spend 2 hours of switching things around in the boot order and change the boot mode in the UEFI. This did not help. But suddenly, I noticed that "windows boot manager" pop up in the order of precedence of Lout. Now, I was able to start the laptop again.

Now I find that really odd because he said my HDD0 is the HARD drive and my HDD1 is 'empty '. I think it should be HDD0 is SSD and HDD HDD1.

This screenshot shows how my boot order is at present (in this order, my laptop starts): http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/1796/20130313195830.jpg

    ---------

Now I have another problem, and it is with the hard drive. I noticed that when I don't do anything that my hard drive stops spinning (it stops turning after about 5 seconds of inactivity and goes into a 'sleep' mode). Now when I continue work on the laptop freezes the action I want to perform and the towers of the HDD upwards, it takes 2-3 seconds. When the hard drive is still spinning once the action is executed without lag. It's as if the hard drive needs to read before that the laptop can continue.

    Kind regards

    Krotar

I found the solution to the issue I described in my previous posts.

I'll put my answer here for people who might encounter the same problem.

The BIOS is defined as mode of UEFI and UEFI mode is to give readers a few problems with the connection to remedy, you need to install your OS in LEGACY mode.

To do this follow these steps:

    -Backup all your files

-Go into your BIOS (f2 when starting to spam)

-Change the UEFI in LEGACY mode

-Reinstall windows on the correct drive (your solid state)

    -Enjoy

I will mark this as a solution and I hope that this topic will not be deleted because there a lot of documentation in it.

  • the hard drive of my computer is purchased full.i a drive.how external hard change outside the primary disk so I can download music easily?

the hard drive of my computer is purchased full.i a drive.how external hard change outside the primary disk so I can download music easily.right now my external backup just my computer that isn't doing me good

    original title: external hard drives

You don't want to change your external drive to your main drive.

You can move your music files on the external drive - or you can move other data on the disk to make room for your music on the internal drive.

What applications do you use to play music?

As described in the first link below, you can move your full "My Documents" folder on the external drive.  Alternatively, you can simply move your music files.  If such an arrangement would give you a satisfactory performance, however, depends on how your external drive is connected (for example, USB 1.1, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, eSATA, Firewire, network) and other hardware features of your computer.

Not all of the following conditions will be applied to you, but some of the tips can be useful.

There are a number of things you can do to- temporarily - free up disk space.  The only real solution, however, is to get a bigger internal hard drive.   You can move the data to your external drive, but if it's the data that you use frequently, slower access times may annoy you.  Therefore, I do not recommend that you move your My Documents folder in its entirety on the external drive, but you can certainly do this by following the related instructions.

    • You can run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)
    • You can reduce the size allocated for the restoration of the system to about 1 GB (right click on desktop > properties > system restore > settings)
    • You can disable hibernation (if you don't use it) (right click on an empty spot on the desktop > properties > screen saver > power > Hibernate)
    • You can disable the indexing of the drive, which will also speed up your computer a bit (http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp)
    • You can reduce the size of your Internet browser cache (depending on the browser that you use)
    • You can remove most of the $NTUninstallKBxxxxxx files $ following the directions here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Hotfix_backup.htm (read the warnings in the gray box first)
    • See also:

" How to recover disk space on Windows Server 2008 and Windows XP computers? ."

" Forty ways to free disk space ."

But none of these answers you will earn really large amounts of space for very long.  The term solution time is a bigger hard drive.

In the meantime, download and run JDiskReport, that will show you graphically what files take up more space and seem to so indicate what files you must move it to your external drive.  If you want to move an application, you will need to uninstall and then reinstall it specifying your external drive as the installation location.  You can not simply move the files.

  • Second HARD drive won't wake from sleep

I have Windows XP on my desktop, and I have installed and formatted a second HDD that I use for storage. The HARD disk that came with the computer is 60 GB, and I put in a second Western Digital 160 GB HARD disc. If I put my computer to sleep and then wake him up the next day, my second HDD is not detected. If I restart the computer, all hard drives are detected. I have their cable select with the original (containing the operating system) in a position to master drive and the storage disk in position slave on cable.

This has something to do with how long there newest larger capacity disk at startup? Is there something to do here - like how long Windows waits before everything starts up and Windows decides that my second HDD is not there? Is there something I need to refresh when my computer starts from sleep so that he could detect my hard drives? If this has to do with one of the power management options?

    Thanks for your comments.

    Hi Anna,.

From my experience you will need to set the jumpers for their proper functioning.

I think update the chipset drivers could be a good step in this problem.

Sometimes older versions of security software or firewall software may misinterpret information from devices that require resources returning from a suspended state. Sometimes, this is interpreted as attacks of different types, because of the level or type of access requested by the device.

Hi, I have an EA6900 and I want to protect my attached HDD, put it to sleep when no activity. Because I see that is still in rotation.

I used to have an Apple Time capsule and the autosleep HDD internal when no activity and start over when someone in netwotk try to access.

I read in the site of the seller of my HARD drive that is not practical to keep the HARD drive running 24/7.

Are there any HARD disk with autosleep mode? Perhaps?

    Any advice on that?

And also, the wake up function works by accessing the HARD drive via SMB.

I tested and it works fine (so far).
