Slow reaction to hard drive or memory

I see in my journal from the mistakes of this message.  My computer keeps "freezing".

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block

My guess is that it is a bad block on your D: partition.  You must run 'chkdsk' with the option/r (repair) to fix any bad blocks.  If it finds a bad block, he will try to get it back and then mark it so that he is not back.  Usually the d partition: is a recovery partition, but it wouldn't hurt to do a check disk on all your hard drives.

  • HARD drive and memory upgrade on the Satellite P200 - 17 c

    Hello

I own Satellite P200 17 c. My current memory is DDR2 PC2-5300 2 GB. I would like to upgrade to DDR2 PC2 - 6400 4 GB of ram. I can do and it's going to be some speed improvements, if I update to PC2-6400 PC2-5300 instead?

I have 2 hard drives on my P200 17 c. 2 x 100 GB. I want to upgrade one of these two HD ranging from 100 GB to 320 GB 5400 RPM. can I do this? and it'll be a difference if I update with HD who has 7200 RPM?

    Thank you

First of all: your machine is able to handle a maximum capacity of 4 GB RAM, but please be aware that you won´t be able to use all of the 4 GB due to some limitations of the chipset that are explained in the following article: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB82022E0000R01.htm

Regarding the speed of module: chipset specifications are defined for PC5300, so it will not improve your speed when you install faster modules.

If you want to upgrade your hard drive then do as you like, because it shouldn´t be any restrictions, you can install a drive with 7200 RPM with a slower.

The only difference will be that the faster drive faster. The performance of the entire system would increase only when you´re install your operating system on the disk more fast (which is the recommendation of my side :))

  • satellite 2520cdt is very slow after replacing HARD drive

My Satellite 2520 CDT is the HARD Mk 4309 MAST 4.3 GB default disk. I replaced the with the Toshiba MK 2016 GAP of 20 GB.
I use Windows 98 since the original installation CD. The laptop is now very slow, it takes minutes to start programs, etc.

I installed the latest BIOS with no improvement. Probably the laptop cannot manage the size of the HARD drive.

    Is there a solution?

    Hello

I had the same suggestion. I think that the large size of the HARD disk is responsible to slowly start performance. But I wonder why BIOS recognize the HARD drive?
However, try to defragment the HARD drive.

  • Qosmio G30-126 (PQG32E) - very slow performance of HARD drive

I have improved my Qosmio G30 126 at 4 GB of Ram, SSD 64 HDD as windows7 boot partition and 500 GB 7200 64cache HARD drive as drive HARD secondary but I have a very slow HARD drive performance when working in windows7, but when I work on a virtual machine Windows XP, the disk HARD perforemance is fine.

I've upgraded all drivers from toshiba.com for windows7 ultimate 32-bit drivers including drivers from the chipset intel but my problem is not solved. I also check all other performance issues and its OK.

The same problem exsists on my old HARD drive on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.

I used HD tune software to check my HARD drive it accelerates gives about 100bps in windows 7 for my SSD and it gives 285mbps (this is the actual read speed) in the machine virtual Windows XP and the actual speed is significantly different.

Please tell me what to do because I suffer from my laptop very slow and spend a lot of mony on it without more.

    Hello

To be honest it is really hard to tell why you have slow HARD drive performance but especially it s associated with a large number of programs they are running in the background. How many processes are started after Windows starts?

Also, the antivirus program may affect the performance of the computer. I would recommend using the AntiVir freeware tool and the Windows Firewall. That's enough if keep you Windows up-to-date and use a new Internet browser.

Also check the other discussions of the forum on the slow performance. You can find a lot of useful tips to improve performance. For example:
    -Defragment HARD drive
-Disable the startup programs you don't need
    -Uninstall unnecessary programs
-Run the CCleaner tool to remove old registry keys

  • Satellite 1410 714 extremely slow after replacing HARD drive

    Hello

I have a Satellite 1410-714 which has had a hard drive failure. I replaced the drive, but now the computer is extremely slow. Windows has been reinstalled, it was really slow too much and now it takes minutes for windows to start.

I suspect that something might have broken on the motherboard and the hard disk. I checked mobo replacement parts, but have not found anything for-714, so a 1410 mobo compatible? This model has a processor celeron 1.8.

    Thanks for help.

    Hannu

    Hello

I can t think the motherboard is broken after replacing HARD drive.
I suggest updating the BIOS first. Maybe your old BIOS have a few problems with the most recent HARD drive.
Please check site driver Toshiba for the latest version of BIOS.

  • Replace the hard drive and memory - guaranteed?

Recently, I replaced the hard drive on the Wyvern with a 640 GB WD Scorpio Blue after finding that the Toshiba disk stock was reallocating too many sectors (readers are functionally identical), and memory has been updated there is a 2 x 4 GB G.SKILL Kit (from stock 1x4Go, 1x2GB).  My laptop now needs to be repaired for hardware problems totally unrelated to these parties (specifically, one damaged USB and Ethernet Jack).  Overall coverage is affected by these parts or these replacements continue to allow outside replaced part complete warranty coverage?  (The Service Manual indicates that both of these parts are replaceable by the user.)

Watch more closely the warranty conditions and found:

This limited warranty [...] does not extend to any product [...] that has been damaged or rendered defective [...] (g) by modification or service by a person who [...] (iii) your own installation of end-user replaceable HP or HP parts if available for your product in the country or region maintenance. [...]

The way I read the warranty conditions, the conditions above may apply, because the parts are not 'HP or HP approved parts', but only if the defect is actually caused by the replacement of these parts.  In addition, the Federal law stipulates that the simple use of third parties do not void a warranty (15 USC §2302 (c); Please note that I am not a lawyer).

Anyone else agree or disagree with that?

Edit: Because no one else answered, I will accept this position as being the solution.

  • Computer HP Desktop M1188A upgraded the HARD drive and memory upgrade possible

    Hello

I have a HP Desktop M1188A running XP Media Center 2005.  The computer runs very slowly and was only 27.6 GB of free space left on the hard drive with a total area of 149GB.  It has 512 MB of memory installed a 4 GB maximum.  Speed supported is PC3200 MB/sec.  Type of DDR.  DIMM slots 4.  160 GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive.  Fact hard drive 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA means it is a SATA connection?

I want to switch the HARD disk like this I hope that the computer runs faster.  I'm a complete novice with respect to the operation of computers.  What to buy to upgrade the HARD drive?

Will it also upgrade the installed memory?  If so, what to do?

    Thank you.

    Michelle,

Try for battery HP to THE Bing search engine, I found several sites in line with the Chargers and batteries. BattDepot Australia seems to have decent prices... At$ 24.49 for the loader and THE $37,49 for battery. If you have not yet checked the HP battery reminder page, I recommend you do this first.

  • Hard drive or memory?

I tried to back up my laptop using Vista software for the 1st time.  The backup would not end due to lack of space on recovery drive D.  My C drive has 220 GB and the recovery drive D has only 10 GB.  I have 163 GB of free space on the C drive.  I was told that I needed to buy more memory or upgrade the D drive. Need me more memory or a hard drive in addition to backup the files?

  • Hard drive and memory for Lenovo idea Pad S10

I have a Lenovo idea Pad S10 and I love it.  Its a great little machine.  I would like to make one or two questions please.  Can on put a larger hard drive and how much memory is the maximum.  I currently have 2 GB of memory.

Also, I tried to do my income tax using it - I uses Taxcut and tried to install it on and the machine said he couldn't make Taxcut.  I suppose that the system is not big enough to cope.  If true that I very well because I have a desktop computer, but I was just wondering if we can get a bigger hard drive and if it would make a difference.

No complaints at all, it's a great machine.

    Thank you

  • What are the requirements with respect to a processor and hard drive and memory is required to run windows seven effectively?

Can I just move from XP to windows 7 without loosung files already under Xp.

While XP is allowed as a way to upgrade to Windows 7, you must perform a new installation ("custom"). It is always wise to backup your data on external media (burn DVD, copy to external hard drive, etc.) before you do anything too drastic to install a new operating system.

Make sure that your hardware is supported in Windows 7. You will need drivers. You can find them in either the OEM (HP, Dell, etc.) If you have this kind of machine or mftrs of individual hardware components. (motherboard, video card, etc.).

  • HARD drive with memory cache 64 MB or 128 MB cache?

If I missed this info on the page of tweakers so someone must fly SA and throw a keyboard on my face because I looked! Yes, I did!

I was 99% decided on my new PC build when my it provider by e-mail at reduced prices on Seagate Constellation 4TB leads with 128 MB of cache, against the other 4TB readers I considered as having a 64 MB cache.

This cache is how beneficial when it comes to a video editing multicamera and calibration of effects/color overlay? It's a little more expensive and research, I quickly made, it seems that it is not worth the thousand additional (or one hundred, in terms of dollar...) so please could someone explain the advantages/disadvantages? Thank you!

More cache is better of course, but I suspect that you would be difficult to see any difference between to 4 disks with cache of 128 MB 64 vs.

Windows caches too your activity by car and you have gigabytes of RAM to work with, not only of megabytes.

For the first time, you want to run fast and risky:

-Right click to file on a drive letter Manager to obtain the Properties dialog box

-Select the Hardware tab, select your drive and click Properties

    -Select the policies tab

-Select 'Best performance' (default) for removal policy

-check the "Enable write cache on the device (default)

-check the "turn off Windows write hot flushes buffer cache" (default value is not checked)
