Snapshot deletion failed, remove the instant vmdk files?

We have a 2 TB data store that became close to completely full. I tried to delete a snapshot that got to 95% the data store completely filled and then pretty much killed the server.

There are 2 drives on a data store. The disk system (Server.vmdk) is 50 GB and the second disc (Server_1.vmdk) is 1.95 GB

I managed to get the operational return server to convert the system disk to a new virtual machine (Server_New.vmdk) on another data store, removal of the original vmdk in the data store complete and then adding a second drive that points to Server_1.vmdk

As far as I can tell everything is everything works fine and it's not like there are any missing files so I am happy with that. One thing I couldn't confirm if I can delete the snapshot files. I'm pretty confident that I can remove them without causing problems, but I'd love to get confirmation from someone who knows what they are doing.

I've looked through the vmware.log file and don't see any mention of server_1 - 000001.vmdk or 000002.vmdk - server_1. Also in browser data store, the modification date and time is 20 minutes before server_new.vmdk and server_1.vmdk and these times coincide fairly well with when I converted to the virtual machine.

If anyone can confirm that these files from snapshots can be deleted safely, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the snapshot is attached to a VM voltage you will not be able to delete in file locking in the data store Navigator. If ca you remove it, then it is not attached and I guess it's safe. Another way is I rename and then see if there is any impact, otherwise it is then safe to remove

  • deleted all vm outside the flat vmdk files - recovery?

In a moment of madness I accidentally tried to remove a virtual machine from a data store. All updated files other than the flat vmdk file then deleted... It is not a critical system, but I still prefer to retrieve by using the existing if possible vmdk file. Since it is a flat file without descriptor I can not simply use it as basis for a new virtual machine, then how would you go to get it? In my view, a provisioning was not used, so should I just copy on a linux machine, it mount it and copy the relevant files or I can pick it up in esx - i?

Edit: I should probably add that I know the exact size of the disc, but when I try to create new disks I can't manage to get split into flat vmdk / basic (with an idea of just using the new disks for the old descriptor)

Take a look at sanbarrow.com for some details on this kind of issue, but basically, you can follow this process

    (1) create a new virtual machine with the same disc than the old size.

    (2) copy the file descriptor on file with just the file flat.vmdk left.

    (3) change the descriptor file (hard) and update to point to the old file flat.vmdk.

    (4) allowing the VM.

    (5) change the new virtual machine and delete the virtual HD.

    (6) copy the old file to the new folder VM with vmkfstools.

    (7) to change the new virtual machine and add a file of existing (using the new copy) drive.

    (8) to turn on the virtual machine.

But before that, you can you

    1) check for us if the virtual machine still works

    (2) post a list of the folder where the virtual computer files were (with the-l option to show the size of the file).

    (3) can you tell me what VMware product and version are you using?  I guess ESXi 3.5 but it would be preferable to confirm.

  • How can I completely remove Realplayer or other similar plugins of Firefox (I have deleted Realplayer and the Realplayer program files)?

Hello, I find that Firefox often hangs and it says not responding do not when I try to open a new page, and also that it takes a long time to clear cookies and cache. I read elsewhere that the second problem may be due to plugins, and I found many of them, which I did not need such as Realplayer. So I was wondering if there is a way for me to start from scratch without any plugins at all and then I install everything needed?

I have reset Firefox, uninstalled and reinstalled and also deleted Realplayer and the Realplayer software files, but nothing seems to change (there are other plugins too that I do not think that I use, like VLC Web Plugin - I only use VLC to DVD - which could also be the cause of the problem).

You can find the installation path of the plugins on the topic: plugins page.

  • Reset cbt - cannot get rid of the ctk vmdk files

    Hi, I have a known problem with the backup of my virtual machines where I need to reset the CBT. The procedure I have the backup software is as follows;

    Solution:

Please follow the steps below to reset the CBT for a specific virtual machine.

    1. turn off the virtual machine

    2. right click on the virtual machine, click on "Change settings", find the 'Options' tab and click 'settings of Configuration.

    3. set the value of 'ctkEnabled' to false

    4. set the 'scsi0:x.ctkEnabled' to false for each disk of the virtual machine in question

    5. open the source folder and remove all - CTK. VMDK files.

    6. turn on the virtual machine

    7. power off the virtual machine again. This step is necessary to update the table of CTK.

8 turn on the virtual machine

    9 replay backup task.

So I have 2 VMs. VM1 and VM2. Both are win2k12 r2 (they are created the same day, the same way, installation of r2 std win2k12, patches, etc...). In step 5, for both servers, even if I delete the ctk.vmdk files, they are automatically reproduced so I can't delete them. Then I continued with the neverthless steps. After step 8, I saw that for VM1, has more ctk.vmdk files so that they are deleted somewhere in the process by the server itself. So my guess is that step 5 is not relevant. The problem I have is that even if I did exactly the same thing for VM2, ctk.vmdk files are never deleted. I reboot 3 times, I tried to manually remove them several times, they always, never to return, they are deleted.

So, basically, I can't reset the cbt on VM2. I double check this ctkenabled are all 'fake' (tried also uppercase) still no luck. Any ideas how I could get rid of these ctk.vmdk files?

    Thank you

Hi, proved that there was a snapshot. As soon as I deleted it, the ctk files disappeared.

  • Can I remove the old update files that have already been applied?

Good evening! I just a quick may be a dumb question... when I've updated my computer, if I remove the before update... like when a service pack number, as for example I downloaded the number of service pack 2 What do I do with the number of the service pack 1? delete it?

Depends on the operating system - Windows

Please note this is only for Windows XP and is not on Vista or Windows 7

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

    For Vista and Windows 7

The update uninstall method in Windows Vista is quite different from that in Windows XP.

Uninstaller for each update folder no longer exists in Vista and the uninstall information is stored by the Volume Shadow Copy service.

After each update, Volume Shadow Copy service backup only the updated files.

So with Vista, it's a differential backup, rather than a full backup files for uninstall
    in Windows XP.

This safeguard mechanism is used to save disk space.

So basically, you are unable to manually delete the uninstall it from the computer.

  • The 11g using uninstall tool to remove the old binary files?

    Hi all

I know that with 11g, the preferred method for deleting old binary files is to use the uninstall tool (in/deinstall/of-install $11G_HOME). However, is it possible for me to remove the old binary files using this tool?

For example, my 11g ORACLE_HOME (that is to say that I want to keep and use) is /opt/oracle/product/11.2.0.3/db

And I have the following binary files on a particular database server:

    Oracle@myserver:/opt/Oracle/product > ls

    10.2 11.1 8.1.6.2 8.1.7.1 8.1.7.4 9.0.1.0 9.2.0.2 9.2.0.5 agent
    10.2.0.3 11.2.0.3 8.1.7.0 8.1.7.3 8.1.7.4.32 9.0.1.1 9.2.0.4 9.2.0.6

As you can see, I have binary files dating back to before the beginning of time (8.1.6, nice) and I wish I could clean it carefully.

I tried to uninstall (just under the checkonly, to ensure that it "sees" the old house) 10.2 binaries using the 11 g uninstall tool and got the following error:

    /opt/Oracle/product/11.2.0.3/DB/deinstall/deinstall-Accueil /opt/oracle/product/10.2/db - checkonly
Verification of the required files must be treated and...
    Please wait...

ERROR:-House does not have to be defined for a deinstall linking in an ORACLE_HOME.
Uninstalling the current House is supposed to.

Any thoughts? I absolutely don't want to uninstall the current home!

    Mark

If you want to get rid of the old the ORACLE_HOME, then you must use the corresponding version of uninstall and must be run from the ORACLE_HOME.

The best way to remove the ORACLE_HOME is to deattaching the old ORACLE_HOME with inventroy and remove this old House.

  • can I extract the files from the _flat.vmdk file

We have suffered a data corruption on a LUN, and I find myself with only a file Server1_1 - flat 200GB hard. No vmx or any other config file. Can I remove all the data from this flat file?

    Thanks, Mike

I would like to try to recreate the descriptor VMDK file.  If this works, you should be able to join any virtual computer.  However if you lost files, parts of this file may be corrupted.  You won't know until you try to attach to a virtual machine.

    Good luck

  • Instant VMDK files do not delete after deleting snapshots

Hi - I have a server SLES/OES2 with two discs - 75 and 750 GB.  I deleted a few shots after that test app and I'm back to instant No.  The data store always shows two files VMDK - server_1 - 000001.vmdk (17 GB) and server_1 - 000002.vmdk (56 GB).  The second is still active in this sound change timestamp.

This is the last section of the VMX file:

    debugStub.linuxOffsets = "0x2d1ac, 0xffffffff, 0 x 0 0 x 0, 0xc58223b, 0x0, 0xc582254, 0x0, 0x2d1a8, 0 x 0 0 x 0 0 x 0, 0xc58226c, 0 x 0"

    scsi0:1.filename = "SSS-SLES-TEST_1 - 000002.vmdk.

    scsi0:1.mode = "persistent".

    scsi0:1.ctkEnabled = "FALSE".

    scsi0:1.DeviceType = "scsi-disk" hard

    scsi0:1.present = 'TRUE '.

    scsi0:1.redo = «»

I got 32 GB free in the data store until I deleted snapshots, then he went to 0 GB free!  I deleted ISO files, and now it's up to 3.7 GB free. The total data store is 1.36 TB

There were not errors when deleting sanpshot - although it took awhile.

All this started because I had forgotten that this VM had snapshots and I started to copy the data to the server and got a warning that server_1 - 000001.vmdk was full and remove the space.

I don't think that the virtual machine is healthy!  Any suggestions?

    Thank you

You can try to power down the virtual machine, taking another cliché and with a bit of luck the entire tree of the snapshot will be detected. After that, keep the VM down and try to delete all snapshots.

    Hello comrades!

I have change my series of photos with smart thumbnails, disconnected my external HARD disk (where the original RAW files). I deleted some pictures from the catalog, and I now have only the best photos of "keeper".

Could you help me please, how to remove the original rejection RAW from my hard drive external? If I connect my external hard drive and try to sync photos, LR offer me an import dialog box photos refused from the external hard drive, instead delete photos denied the original RAWs.

Stop disconnect the external drive before you delete the catalog releases and select Remove from the disk.

Otherwise, you will need to manually, delete them externally or reimport then them select all, make sure previous import is selected, Photos and then delete and remove disk.

  • Help! Deleting files in the local folder removes the Mac HD files.

After having "achieved" remote folder together, all folders on my desk and all the folders and files related to them (in thousands) appeared in the files of my Local folder Panel. And each of them had a character more next it. Worse, deleting one of these files delete the actual file to my desktop and Mac HD. What can I do?

The + means that it is a folder, click on it to see the files that it contains.

DW does not store the files, just some organizes and works with the files on your desktop, so to delete a file in DW it will remove your HD. This is the expected and correct result.

When you define a site, you must create a folder root for your site to store files (do not use your desktop folder). If you do not create a folder of root to work from, I could see all your office supplies including accidentally in your site. If this is what happened, you need to redefine your site: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/

Everything that was deleted should be restored from a backup, if that's what is happening.
