SNMP management.

Hello world

I have a doubt. How to add a device to a SNMP community?.

I mean the community already exists and it is already monitorizing by a PC (monitoring tests are performed in implemantacion possible).  and there are several teams that are monitored, but are thought to put the other monitoring devices, which makes me wonder: how new devices could be added?  What I have to configure any what ACL?

Greetings.

Johnnantan,

The SNMP community string allows to control the device.  I recommend generally that for a company, community channels will be the same for all devices allow read-only access to the devices.  You can have several platforms of different software, surveillance devices at the same time.  I usually do not define read-write community strings or have completely different channels for RW and ACL.

The limiting factor is on the device to keep track of how many devices it may follow and the amount of information she asks monitored equipment.

If you want to control which monitors SNMP routers/switches/servers, you can implement ACLs on the channels of the community to respond only queries snmp specific devices only if they have the correct channel.  If you have the failures of access to the log list, so you can go back and find out what is scanning devices.

Do not forget that qureies snmp take processing power so that the more devices that monitor a router and with short times between requests will have a performance affect on the router or switch.

Hope this helps.

  • vCenter alarms & SNMP Trap

    Gang-

I try to get my vCenter alarms to send traps SNMP for SNMP Manager/receiver so we can automatically open the service tickets based on certain types of vCenter alarms.  I have loaded MIB and OID translate for VMWARE-VC-EVENT-MIBs.

Everything goes well and using the free utility TrapReceiver I'm able to test receive interrupts.

    Here's my problem...

I don't know how vCenter is differentiate the name of alarm vCenter in trap data.  Some vCenter alarms/traps, I want my ticket system to open lower or higher priority tickets, so I need to figure out how vCenter translated the alarm at the "vmwVpxdObjValue" into the trap.  Unfortunately I can't find any information on how to translate this value and I don't want to wait for all my events to trigger production, just to get a sample, so I don't know what to expect.

    Any ideas?

Well shoot - that isn't quite right either.

Seems that if it is a fault of the alarm system, the TRAP will leverage the value of $alarm.extensiondata.info.systemname as the beginning of the vmwVpxdObjectValue data.

If it is a user/custom alarm, it seems to refer to the value of $alarm.extensiondata.info.name.

I have to have a script that includes both.

  • Configure ESX hosts to send SNMP traps to a third-party server

Can someone please advise how to set up the host ESX (3.5) to send SNMP traps on a third party server... 300 dpi (10.60.0.1)

    gboskin wrote:

    (2) it looks like its only sending traps if there is an error or fault in the hots and I need to send regular performance statistics

If this is possible depends on what VMware has put in the MIB and agents.

You can check the measures of performance of the MIB and I guess that when they exist they are not send as a trap, but they must be requested via a get SNMP management suite.

  • activate/install net-snmp on ESX 3.5

    Hello

I have vmware what ESX 3.5 installed and I want to activate snmp to get answers on the applications.

I saw in other posts that you need to configure /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf but the directory/etc/SNMP does not exist on my ESX Server.

do you know how can I install it? have I installed by mistake a slim version of ESX?

Yes, that's the problem. However, there are solutions for that...

ESXi (after update 2, your version is fine) comes with SNMP management agents.  But it is different from ESX 3.5 service console. ESXi SNMP agents supports only traps, not OBTAINED.

To activate it, use the command vicfg-snmp RCLI

If you do not have RCLI, download it from the site Web of VMWare and install and download the document if you need.

Use the following links for more information on SNMP on ESXi

  • Essentials OM does not send emails

I am relatively new to most of OM.  We installed it on a new server and he did very well to discover all of our physical servers.

I created an alert Action Email to these physical servers and he had to use SMTP, but now if I unplug a power cable on one of the servers (who I guess OM Essentials is now followed), he never sends an e-mail alert.  I have test the SMTP protocol when I put in place the rule and comes it from test through very well.

What is a configuration of alerts issue or another issue?  I noticed that next to all the physical servers health is '?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Actually, I was referring to manage/devices/click the specific server in the tree view / click on the Alerts tab in the server window, but alerts/manage it will also. It could be harder to find a particular alert, which shows all of the alerts for all.

If you do not see an alert, then OME not receive the alerts from the server and/or the server not to send or not to send them to the right place.

I believe that you must also configure the DRAC on your servers to send their SNMP traps on the server of OME, or you won't get alerts of equipment you are looking for.

    From the manual of MOE:

    Troubleshooting receive SNMP traps
If you encounter a problem of receipt of SNMP traps, perform the following steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

    1. check the network connectivity between the two systems. You can do a ping on the other system using the command ping command.

    2. check the configuration of SNMP on the managed node. Ensure that you specified the IP console essential OpenManage and the name of the community string in SNMP managed node services.

    3. ensure that the SNMP trap service services are running in the open system manage Essentials.

    4. check firewall settings to allow the UDP 161, 162 ports.

The DRAC also have a test function to see if you have SNMP properly installed interruptions. It will send a trap to test on, and if everything is properly configured OME will receive and save it.

  • SG500-52 or SG500 - 52p regarding the update of MIBs

What is the download of MIBs_Sx500_v1.4.0.88 for?  I currently do all my switches come to 1.4.0.88 Firmware version.  Do I need to update my SG500-52 or SG500 - 52p switches or is it for something else.  According to me, only they call it MIB download page management switch.

    Please advise and thanks,

    Hello

It may be a little late for you, but for someone else: MIB files are related to the SNMP management and unless you use your SNMP server, you do not have to download when upgrading the firmware and boot code.

    Kind regards

  • Request - SNMPv3

    Dear comrades,

I read on SNMPv3 and its security features.

Could you please confirm to me whether the next steps are correct?

    (1) definition of a view:
Router (config) #snmp - server view readview internet included

    (2) creating a group:

Router (config) #snmp - server group readonly v3 auth read readview

    (3) creating a user:

    Router (config) #snmp - server user user1 readonly v3 auth md5 password1
    (4) make the user in the SNMP Manager.

Is correct, what is written above?

Moreover, I would like to know if there is any chance of getting the username and password from the point 3) a RADIUS server or RADIUS server? The idea is that there is no need to create a new user locally. So that could come from a GANYMEDE or RADIUS users and passwords?

    Thanks in advance!.

    Hello

You can post this question in the section of network management, but I'm sure that this username is allowing to authenticate the snmp communication which is distinct from the AAA. The user account snmp for is locally important and I am sure that this account cannot be centralized. Please run this by the forum for a more concrete answer.

    Thank you

Don't know if there are other settings of snmp that must be put in place or I missed something

    Thank you for your help

    Hello

Can you try to set up OMNM like this http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/network-switches/f/866/t/19535001.aspx

Set up two profiles of authentication in OMNM. ((1) SNMP v1/v2c and used the SNMP community string, I put on the Force 10 switch 2) Telnet/SSH using the switches telnet user ID, password and the password 'Enable' leaving him activate ID empty.

  • 802. 1 X port management via SNMP

    Hello

Could someone tell me how to disable 802. 1 X for the specific port via snmp command?

That is to say, I can do it in the cli "not auto port of authentication control." But I need to do it in the form of "script" more.

as we can disable/enable the port like this:

The VALUE ON (1) switch (2) by interface ID
    snmpset-v2c private switch.host.name - c 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7.10102 I 2

I tried to browse the CISCO-PAE-MIB and has not found the solution...

    Links or ideas?

    Thank you.

    Catalyst 2960 S PS Series...

    Hello

don't know if this will work, but you can try to set to dot1xAuthAuthControlledPortControl by default (3:forceAuthorized):

     snmpset -v2c -c private switch.host.name 1.0.8802.1.1.1.1.2.1.1.6. i 3

(Note that the Cisco Object Navigator showes an incorrect OID).

  • Manage a WCS by SNMP

    Hello

I will need to supervise a SNMP remotely through WCS (version 4.2).

Can what mib I use to get information such as CPU used on the WCS, space free hard disk, number of AP, number of rogue AP, number of LWAPP tunnels, number of users of wifi connected at all points?

    Kind regards

You'll have to ask the WLC and not of WCS.  The application of WCS is unresponsive to SNMP requests.

  • SNMP ENterprise traps Manager

    Hi all

I have configured the database (No Grid Control) control to send the SNMP alert in our monitoring system.
I've added notification rules by target (Instance, Cluster, database, host, ASM, listener). For each notification rule, I've added metrics and specified by the SNMP method.

Now, tested the alert SNMP for Tablespace space used (%), have created a tablespace small data file and fill it with data, as you can see below.
The problem is that the tablespace alert does not appear in the surveillance system where a previous test, I did stop the watch database the database to the bottom of the alert on the monitoring system. How can I solve the problem?

    Thank you
    SQL> SELECT REASON, OBJECT_NAME, OWNER from DBA_OUTSTANDING_ALERTS;

  • CSSN's erroneous error messages (Network Switch Center management system)

I receive emai lalerts of the CSSN on switches are declining because of "factors: no response to SNMP GET."

I think that this could be due to a heavy load on the switch at the time.

Is there a way to increase the SNMP Get time-out in CSSN?

Survey SNMP timeout settings are managed by 'Health Check properties' under 'Options' in the Manager of monitor. It provides allows you to change the value of default 5 seconds timeout to anywhere up to 60 seconds. Please note that it is the global setting and effect of all the devices listed in the Manager of monitor. Thanks Mushi

  • HP Jetdirect 300 x: updated HP Jetdirect 300 x (J3263A) without Web Jetadmin or HP Download Manager

If you have a HP Jetdirect 300 x (J3263A exactly) with an older version of firmware, such that H.08.20, you may have noticed it is almost impossible to update. The HP Download Manager is supposed to be used to update the product to the latest revision of the firmware, but it does not work and gives an error. Similarly, the HP Webjetadmin software does the same. The two pieces of software uses the SNMP protocol. Newer versions of the firmware are supposed to be updated via FTP or HTTP, but if you're stuck with an older version such as H.08.20, you're out of luck on these methods. So how is one with an older firmware supposed to upgrade to the latest revision?

After days of experimentation and dig through the documentation and forums, I found a solution! TFTP. This process is not documented anywhere to my knowledge (and believe me I looked!) so please read carefully.

The first step is to set up a TFTP server. You can try setting up on Windows or Mac OS X. For the record, however, I tried to use the built-in Mac OS x and had no luck TFTP server. Your best bet is to use a Linux virtual machine or a live cd. I used Debian and tftp-hpa. I have no luck with tftpd.

    1. Machine Debian Boot
    2. Make sure you have an IP address that is accessible to the Jetdirect. To configure the IP address, follow the instructions here: https://wiki.debian.org/NetworkConfiguration#Setting_up_an_Ethernet_Interface. If you are already connected to a DHCP server, you should not do anything.
    3. Install tftp-hpa:
      $ apt - get install tftp-hpa
    4. Copy the firmware file to the tftp directory, in my case "300X_H0867.dld".
      $ cp 300X_H0867.dld/srv/tftp /.
    5. Give everyone read on the file permissions
      $ chmod a + x /srv/tftp/300X_H0867.dld
    6. Eventually, try to download the file from another computer on the network to check if it works (assuming that 192.168.1.1 the server IP).
      TFTP $192.168.1.1
      TFTP > get 300X_H0867.dld
If all goes well and as the file downloads, you should be good to go!
    7. Telnet in the Jetdirect 300 X. If necessary, restore default values to enable telnet server and set an IP as shown here: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-bpj02738
    8. Once in a telnet session, run the following commands (assuming that the tftp server address is 192.168.1.1):
      TFTP-server: 192.168.1.1
      updated - file: 300X_H0867.dld
      upgrade
    9. Immediately after that hit upgrade and pressing on enter, you will get a message saying that the Jetdirect will begin the update and your telnet session will be closed.
    10. In a minute or two, then try to telnet in the Jetdirect. If all goes well, type ' / ' and press ENTER, and you should see that the revision of the firmware is set to the new version!
