Snow Leopard to El Capitan on Macbook pro 2011

Hello world

I run a 2011 Macbook pro under Snow Leopard and need to update to El Capitan because of my iPhone 5 that runs on iOs 9.
Question?

Should I upgrade to El Capitan or keep Snow Leopard?
Is anyone doing this update already on a similar mac?
I heard that it would be possible to partition the drive and use the two Os x. My concern is that my macbook pro would be slower, it works perfectly fine at the time or perhaps the risk of overheating due to the upgrade?
And of course, I could lose valuable software like Xpress, my Adobe CS5...

Sorry for the many questions but I have not found answers on the forum yet.
Thanks in advance.

Florian

(1) keep SL, but use El Capitan on the same drive or on an external boot disk.

(2) others have, and it is possible.  I did not, but I'm a bit of a killjoy.

(3A) Yes, it is possible.  I would advise, so you can keep your software that will be useful if - I don't you am not mocking, I understand very well keep working software.

(3B), it may be a bit slower.  If you have less than 16 GB of RAM (you can run that much) the effect could be a little more pronounced.  If you only have 4 GB of RAM, you need to upgrade RAM first IMO.

(3 c) don't worry overheating.  Fan CPU/controls is sophisticated enough to keep things working, as long as you do not block the main back-vent.

Path, you can follow:

(1A), you can partition using disk utility, but you should have a very good clone/backup before doing just in case a very rare event of bad things.  You also told us not how big your current drive is and how you have used.

(1B), you could get an external 2.5 drive and I suggest that you get an external Universal connection kit for $15 fix any bare drive.

(2) you can download the installer from El Capitan, but out of the automatic "starts to install.  Then copy the installation application to another location of re - later use these packs to remove critical package "in-house" at the end of installation.

(3) If you have a second drive of clone of your current system (my preferred method), you can upgrade this clone, while keeping intact internal drive and startup just externally for iPhone operations.

  • Process of return to Snow Leopard of El Capitan

I have an iMac from the beginning of 2008.  I was using Snow Leopard successfully.  Last weekend, I've upgraded to El Capitan.  During the conversion, I lost all my email history.  I had saved Snow Leopard in Time Machine just before the upgrade.  I want to find a process documented back to Snow Leopard (I have the dicc) and time using Time Machine to reinstall the emails.  I tried to reinstall the e-mails with the help of El Capitan, but it does not work.  Did Snow Leopard work - El Capitan runs very slowly with my chip set.  Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what you need to do:

    Snow Leopard erase and install

Remember to only back up your files.

    1. Insert the Snow Leopard DVD in the optical drive and restart the computer.
    2. Immediately after hearing the chime hold down the C key.
    3. Release the button when the Apple logo appears and wait for loading to complete.
    4. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.  After disk utility charges select the entry out-bumpy in the list aside (mfgr. size ID and disc drive.)  In the right side of the disk utility window, click the Partition tab.  Set the number of partitions of one (1) in the menu dropdown. Click the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, the value of the Mac OS Extended journaled format type. Finally, click on the apply button.
    5. Once the format is complete, quit disk utility.  Continue with the installation of OS X and follow the directions.
    6. Once installation is complete, the computer will restart in the installation wizard. After completing the Setup Wizard, you will use a new installation of Snow Leopard. Open the software update and install updates recommended.
    7. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows: once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts with a welcome screen. To leave the Mac in a State OOTB (Out Of The Box), do not continue with the Setup program. Instead, press the command and Q keys to stop the computer. The installation wizard will guide you the new owner through the installation procedure, after that it turns on the computer.
    8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. If necessary. It is not necessary if you are selling or giving your computer away.
  • In order to get updates of Firefox, I need to install El Capitan.  El Capitan work well on a MacBook Pro 2011?

Have a 2011 MacBook Pro, just received a message from Firefox saying that they support is more Yosemite 10.10.5 in a few months (updates, security updates etc.) and I need to improve my ios.  Question... are there problems with El Capitan on a MacBook Pro 2011?  Thank you

not that I've heard of. You will need to make sure that you have at least 4 GB of ram on board, except that you should be good to go. Log in the App store, grab a copy and follow the instructions on the screen. You may need to reboot at least once...

    Good luck

  • Memory - Macbook Pro 2011

    Help, please! I have a MacBook Pro 13 inch end 2011. I want to upgrade the memory of 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) to 16GB (2 x 8 GB).

Can I buy 16GB and they say it's for the MacBook Pro 2011, but it says on the site of Apple 8GB maximum memory.

Everyone is running 16GB and it works fine?

I upgraded to El Capitan, and my mac seems slower.

Back in 2011 8 GB SODIMM costs $1000 + if they still existed.  Apple tested the SODIMM 4 GB at reasonable price and never reviewed the hardware older after 8 GB SODIMM fell to $50.

I run 16 GB Crucial in my MBP 2011 very well.  Crucial or OWC (macsales.com) sell RAM reliable and provide guarantees for life.

Is it possible to power (charge) my MacBook Pro 2011 USB port?  I had the case where I forgot my card (or used my MacBook more than expected) and he should be charged.  Since normally the USB provides power, I didn't connect it to a power outlet (via adapter).

I am running OSX El Capitan.

    Thank you

N ° USB came out only one power supply.

I have never tried to upgrade the macbook - so I don't know how easy/possible/useful it is to do. Here is my card... can someone tell me if this can be improved and if so, if she's worth ($-wise)?

Take it back to the Apple Store and ask them to check it out. It should be under warranty. Bring the MBP along too. It sounds like there might be a problem with it.

I have a Macbook pro (2011 model). It gets stuck on the start screen on to half way through commissioning. This happens whenever the mac turns on. The problem is solved when I reinstall Yosemite to boot to Recovery Mode disk utility. However, the next time you start, the startup process is blocked to halfway to new (on the screen with the toolbar and the status of apple). I want a more permanent solution to reinstall the operating system every time. Would appreciate someone's suggestions and thanks in advance.

    Replace your hard drive.

You have a backup of trust? If not, buy a disc of exterrnal for that as well.

The progress bar from the left end at the beginning of the commissioning indicates that your drive has been so damaged, it could not be mounted. Five minutes of progress bar is shown as it does the equivalent of disk utility (ERD [Directory]). If you have reinstalled several times and the problem is not fixed, your drive is in solid form.

  • Update of os x Snow Leopard to El Capitan 10.11.5 10.6.8

    Hi all...

I just upgraded my Macbook Pro 13 "since mid-2010 at the El Capitan 10.11.5."

    Configuration of my Macbook Pro:

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

These are the problems I encounter:

    • I can't switch between the previous page and next page with 3 fingers sliding left or right, I could do without effort on my previous version of the osx
    • The startup time is very high... (40 seconds to 1 minute)
    • The system preference takes time to open

Please help on the above problems.

The only reason to upgrade my Macbook Pro has been because the iTunes was not compatible with my new iPhone SE. (there where we need the itunes 12.3.3.17 and who used to work on my OSx snow leopard 10.6.8)

Please help me to solve the above problems. Also let me know if I need a downgrade to older versions of the operating system

    Check your trackpad settings

To be honest, with only 4 GB of RAM and running El Cap - it all seems normal with a HD of spinning.  Snow Leopard is much lighter and compact operating system.

The only reason to upgrade my Macbook Pro has been because the iTunes was not compatible with my new iPhone SE.

It doesn't pay to get too far behind in technology or OS X.

Add more RAM and an SSD, you'd be amazed at the difference. Check out https://www.macsales.com/

  • Compatibility CD Snow Leopard with El Capitan

    Hello

Until recently, I used the (installed via the original CD) on a plain Macbook snow leopard, and subsequently, I installed Windows XP SP3 via Bootcamp. I remember that after the installation I had to install utilities Bootcamp from the original CD of Snow Leopard.

A few weeks ago, I upgraded to El Capitan, and then to Windows 7 in the original Bootcamp partition. Are there specific utilities of Bootcamp I should install?

In which case the answer is Yes, where can I find/download utilities for editing?

    Thanks for the advice.

I am trying to install Windows 7 via USB, (El Capitan, Macbook Pro - early 2011), but this mistake "No. BOOTABLE DEVICE - INSERT BOOT DISK AND press ANY KEY ' when bootcamp restart my macbook to begin the installation. Any ideas?

You cannot use a USB on Mac 2011 Installer. Please burn the ISO on a physical DVD Windows (a DVD - R Carbon SL on the rate of burning slower is better) and use it to install Windows. The file Info.plist changes only allowing the creation of USB, but does not fully support a USB Installation.

  • MacBook pro 2011 very slow to load anything, download applications, installation of El Capitan...

I am a computer scientist, to work on a Macbook Pro 9.2 A1286 2010 client; I found first of all that it would not recognize the HD. Then, of course, first a PRAM reset.

Still no hard drive. So I ran Apple Hardware Diags, he finds that everything was fine... but he did not check the drive, because he did not either.

So I swapped the HD for the nine existing. Still no joy. Then, I tried the optical drive SATA port using a trolley car, and it worked.

So, now I think to myself, I just need to replace the original HDD SATA cable.

But in the meantime, I now use this optical drive SATA port to install an operating system.

So I'm intstalling El Capitan... and he's going VERY slowly... said 27 minutes left, then after even 30 minutes, it says 26 remaining minutes... even for every minute of time estimated to the left. Hours trying to install what should move a lot more quickly. Two SATA ports run at the same speed, so that wouldn't make any difference.

I have about 20 + Mbps download speed, and I d/l El Cap several times before on this same bandwidth and it goes as one might expect.

Also, I noticed in trying to engage around all preparation of the installation, everything seemed to be in slow motion, with a lot of time-outs of spinning, before of the OS responds... even trying just to get the pop down menu, etc. It is a system with no operating system, just off the coast of the temp install DVD or USB operating system installed.

The summary is that something in the firmware seems to be wrong. I find that there is a SMC and EFI up-to-date, but who can not install without the latest OS, so the attempt to d/l El CAP.

I'm looking for light bulbs go out there as to what might slow down this computer that doesn't even have a hard drive running an OS yet?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.
