Some very slow 3D operations on the 16-bit Images

I didn't Photoshop Extended before CS6, so I did experiments with the realization of some simple 3D stuff, such as transform the text in 3D shapes and trying to match to a photographic background.

What I do seems simple enough and it seems to work, but there's a problem: a few things seem to take very long.  At worst, Photoshop will completely numb for about 40 seconds.

A good example is the following: I have a picture that I opened in mode RGB/16 to 4096 x 6144 pixels, and I create a new layer of text on the photo with a note in it: STOP

I click on the 3D button in the text tool Options box and wait a full 40 + seconds before you see the pop-up that asks me if I want to switch to the 3D workspace.

, I guess that 40 second delay is not normal.  It is certainly not acceptable.

Once in the field of 3D editing, I can do most things with relative ease, such as moving the mesh 3D autour, rotate, change the lighting, etc..  Time to update to one of these operations to show it is maybe 1/2 second or so to show on the screen.  Some things are a little faster.  Making it even in a clean state is fast enough - only 10 seconds or more.

I've tested this in Photoshop CS6 32-bit and 64-bit, and the performance seems relatively stable, like the appearance of the long delay.

Other observations:

  • I see also the long time if I click on a stage in history to go back or forward in the story.

  • If I'm working on an 8-bit/channel image 40 seconds is reduced to about 2 seconds.

I have a decent life 8 core machine with (by today's standards) a modest graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 5670 1 GB DDR5 memory.  I'm on the ATI Catalyst 12.2 drivers because the game (latest version) 12.4 has other problems.  But when I tried with 12.4 3D stuff was the same.

Example: Switch from this screen to one below takes 40 seconds.

3D_1.jpg

... 40 seconds later...

3D_2..jpg

Tweaking the end it looks decent seems feasible - no crashes or glitches...

3D_3.jpg

Not knowing what to expect, or what I would expect not to try to do, what I do seems simple enough.  I'm looking for something I shouldn't?  Is this just a given that do 3D you're supposed to work on 8 bits/channel data?

Well, the "fix" seems to have stuck - it's always fast.  Thank you, Steve, prompting me to play with the text itself - that had not occurred to me.

If you are interested in trying to understand what the Devil's going on inside Photoshop, here is the actual font files:

I will continue to experiment with the 3D stuff to see if I ran across any other breaks down or anything.

Assuming that you are talking about disk space from in the guest OS. You are probably using an MBR partition table, which limits the maximum usable disk space to ~ 2 TB. In order to use the entire disk space, you need a GPT partition table.

  • How can I use the BCGTransform function to treat the 16-bit Image?

    Hi ~

I use LabWindowsCVI8.5 and NI Vision to make the treatment of the Image. When I read the "IMAQ Vision for LabWindowsCVI Reference Manual", I found that the imaqBCGTransform function only supports 8-bit Image, while I do the BCG to turn on 16-bit image. Are there solutions to use the BCGTransform function to deal with the 16-bit Image? Or any other feature that could make the correction Gamma, contrast and brightness on the 16-bit Image?

    Thank you very much!

because imaqBCGTransform is implemented as a lookup table, we can understand why it is limited to 8-bit images.

Now let's take a look at the definition of each of this mandate (from the NI Vision Concepts documentation):

    -brightness: a constant added to the components red, green, and blue pixel of color over color, decoding of the process;

-contrast: a constant multiplication factor applied to the components of the luma and chroma of a pixel of color in color to decoding process.

-gamma correction: expand high gray-level information in an image while removing information of low level of gray.  (the chapter on lookup tables gives some examples of corrections gamma)

now that you understand that this transformation is a simple mathematical function, simply calculate the correction for each pixel on your 16-bit images.

I know not the exact formula used by the imaqBCGTransform function, but you should be able to approach by performing some tests on images 8 bits with the original function... or you can make your own formula... or find one on the net... or you can ask someone at home OR you give the formula...

  • Record, display and send the 16-bit Images

I recently updated my Canon 7 d for a 5 d Mark iii and this made me learn all about 16-bit vs 8 bit files... (so many hours frustrated I was wondering why my pictures lost their color when I saved as JPEGs from photoshop).  Thus, you cannot save the 16-bit images in jpeg jpeg manages only 8 bits.  I get this now, but here is my Riddle... I am a wedding and portrait photographer, and I want to send my customers the best possible quality pictures that I can.  An image that I just finished work on East of 118 MB saving as tiff.  These seem ridiculously large files to send to customers - in terms of storage space, or perhaps their computers are fast enough to deal with all this information.  I tried zipping it, but he went up to 110 MB.  What other photographers are doing?  It seems such a shame to work in 8-bit - banding is horrible.

Also, how is it when I export directly from lightroom, having never been through photoshop, my photos do not lose their color?  Lightroom is still save in format jpeg - so why does not them?

Thanks a lot for any idea!  I'm barely entered on what is happening here, so I apologize if there is missing information!

Your color changes are more likely to result from the color profiles not used correctly seen, rather than 8-bit / 16-bit.

I work entirely in 16 bits (using the Adobe RGB or ProPhoto color space). In this way I avoid introducing bands, when editing and my own files do not lose color information.  However, if I send an edited image to anyone who is likely to display on a managed without color system (that is to say almost everyone!), then I export to JPEG (which is 8 bits) and convert it to sRGB. I always include the sRGB profile in jpeg format. Most of the clients will be discovered on systems that ignore the profile but at least sRGB is the safest in this situation.

    Hello

First of all I recommend to check the HARD disk for disk failure HARD errors that may affect the performance of the computer, you should check the HARD drive using freeware tools one of the tools that I use is the Drive Fitness Test he has been published several times here in the forum and its really great software.

If the HARD drive would be ok and if no error would be detected, then, I recommend disabling some processes that are not important for you in many cases different tools would be charged during the OS start process and these tools run in the background that slow down the operating system.
Run msconfig and check the Startup tab
Here you will see all the programs that are loaded at the beginning, you can uncheck the tools is not necessary

Note: If you are not sure what means the only process, use google and search in internet for more details otherwise don't disable this.

  • My windows 7 starter edition is very slow even though have the latset update?

I use 2 is antivirus Eset and Mcafee not of them fast my starter for windows 7. What to do to make my computer very fast computer brother is very fast but my is very slow? How can I do a very fast speed?

You should have two antivirus at the same time. Decide who you want to keep and delete the other. It is in itself will probably help. You may need to get a site removal tool to remove completely all traces of one that you decide to make the dumping.

So have a read of this - https://www.microsoft.com/atwork/maintenance/speed.aspx#fbid=H9h8CKbw_qx (not step 6) that I hope will also help.

  • Animation in HTML5 very slow to publish on the site.

Hello people, I have a problem.

I did an animation in HTML5 canvas for the opening of the customer site, only because the animation had some effects and some cool details for a good appearance, it ends up being slow to display during the run in browsers, except Internet Explorer which is optimal.

And especially when I put the animation in the Word Press, it is slow in time to open the site.

Can anyone help me with information to improve the performance of HTML5 animation on the site?

Can I change the format? Or reduce the content of the animation?

Someone help me please, I want to impress the client.

    Thank you.

The main thing that slows down the publication uses spritesheets.

The main thing that slows down the loading of the page don't use spritesheets. You can help with this by increasing the number of connections that are made. See here for details on this:

    https://forums.Adobe.com/message/8778750?et=watches.email.outcome#8778750

The main thing that affects the performance of reading is if you use custom, acceleration or filter effects or modes of ink.

    Don't do things.

  • Rotate and move the 16-bit Image

I would like to rotate and move a 16-bit RGB (U64 in LabVIEW) image.  The IMAQ turn and shift functions do not accept this type of image, but they do not accept an image in 16-bit grayscale (I16 in LabVIEW).  Unfortunately, this clips all values in my original image since it extends from-32, 767 to + 32 767.  The ExtractColorPlanes function requires a 16-bit image to be wired as the destination image but the IMAQ create VI does not U16 to create image.

    Any ideas?

Just to be proactive... Here is an example of the problem.  I tried to download a (small) 16-bit tif, but is not a valid extension to download.  Photoshop allows me to record a 16-bit RAW, TIF or PSD: none of which can be downloaded.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Very slow animation operation in Android - tips soluations devices

Animations developed for Adobe DPS and downloaded in Android devices turn very slowly in Android - tips soluations devices

You are faced with limitations in the performance of the devices Android in general and in some cases our performance of the Viewer on these devices, unfortunately. You will need to reduce the complexity of your animation to get better performance. If you use a sequence of images, you will need to reduce the size of the images.

  • CS6 Adobe installation is very slow if access to the internet is blocked

    Hello

I noticed that our facilities Adobe CS6 (using package AAMEE) were surprisingly slow (as in five hours on a fast machine).  I have worked for the cause of the problem and am posting here in hopes it helps someone else has the same problem - in addition, if someone from Adobe is reading this, it would be nice to get it fixed, at least for future versions. :-)

The problem is that our machines have no direct access to the web sites on the internet, i.e., port 80 traffic is blocked by the external firewall.  I discovered that Installer CS6 tried repeatedly to contact various websites, including crl.verisign.net, probably in order to validate digital certificates on the files in the installation package.  Each such attempt was set to expire before the next was made.  Firewall Configuration Windows to block these attempts reduced at the time of the installation of five hours thirty minutes.

On Windows 7, this command allows to install a firewall rule that blocks traffic outbound port 80:

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name = "block www" dir = action = block protocol = tcp remoteport = 80

Once installation is complete, this command deletes the rule:

netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name = "block www.

For later versions (Adobe CC and beyond) you should block port 443 as port 80.

  • Very slow to connect to the router WRT400N

I use a Vaio laptop, running Windows 7, which seems to take a period of unusually long connection to one of the two wireless networks configured on this router dual band.  It connects so don't get me wrong, just about 45 seconds to a minute.  My other laptops seem to connect right away, so I'm not sure it's a router problem, but I would like to know.  Any help would be appreciated.

On your windows 7, remove all wireless network profiles and try to connect again.
