Sometimes I see UpdateTask.exe running, then it stops. What is it?
I always open Task Manager. Sometimes I see UpdateTask.exe running, then it stops. I tried to search using the search tool, but it is not found. It makes no sense at all. It was called UpdateTask.exe, wouldn't you find when I searched using this name?
Hi RAM,
UpdateTask.exe comes from the ask.com toolbar. If you don't want this toolbar, you can Uninstall from the computer. Search for the file in the following location: %ProgramFiles%\ask.com\updatetask.exe
Follow these methods.
Method 1: Performs a search using the Microsoft safety scanner.
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot State to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.
After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.
(a) click Start, run.
(b) type msconfigand click OK.
(c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
(d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
(e) when you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

- Icon clicked on start Photoshop
- Photoshop is not started, but Photoshop.exe appears in Windows Task Manager (RTM) tab process (about 8 MB of memory used)
- If I click on Photoshop icon to start several times, many EXEs appear in WTM
- Tried right click on Photoshop.exe (s) and ending the process, and then run Photoshop (same result) again

Satellite P10 - sometimes it will not be running
Hello
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite P10 (bought in 2004).
Sometimes it will not be running (no air conditioning, no battery) and sometimes the "Shut down" - the dialogue appears as if I had pressed the power button (really, I have not). Then, he died instantly, and I can't turn it on. Rarely turns without touching the power button a few minutes later.First, I assumed that the reason was the envelope, but recently the same problem appears despite the case open.
Finally, I think that the problem is caused by a defective power controller chip. So, I read that I could at least try it deflexing by a hairdryer. This is why I would like to know where the power controller chip is located on the motherboard and how do I recognize it.
Thanks in advance!
Sebastian
Hello
[If your notebook won power t on sometimes you check out this article: what steps must be followed if your Toshiba laptop does not start? | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=21]
But I think that no one here can tell you where the power controller is replaced and if you can fix it yourself or not. Here he s only one user to user forum and if you have these technical questions should ask a technician for laptop (authorized service provider) for help. Guys have access to all the databases of Toshiba and can order spare parts Toshiba and it would be no problem for the guys to repair the device for you. ;)

When I turn on the internet, I have an iexplore.exe which uses a lot of memory, more than 200 000 K and one that uses very little of 15, 000 K. I also seem to have a running explorer.exe.
Anyone running Windows XP has "explorer.exe" running - it's the office.
When iexplore.exe is, assuming that you are sure that the two tasks are spelled the same and both are run under the same user account, and then if you have upgraded Internet Explorer to version 8, the reason for the two instances of iexplore.exe is the new browser uses a separate process 'iexplore.exe' for each currently open tab. If you start your browser, you will automatically have two processes, one for the main browser window and one for the first tab.
Microsoft has implemented this technique in Internet Explorer 8 to accommodate a more effective process to each tab priority. An example would be if you were listening to streaming radio in a tab and the surf in another. The tab that has your focus can and will take precedence over the background tab and cause the radio to cut or even stop. In the new Internet Explorer, each tab has its own procedure that allows equal priority over time CPU and not let not another tab steal the processing time for an another background tab.
If you don't have IE 8, then you probably have a malware problem. Download, install, update and run each of these two free scanners. Do not run both at the same time. Each will take a while ends, then start it up and then go for a non-it chore.

Hi Pops1148,
· Is the question not confined with updated Microsoft Office?
Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:
Method 1: You can follow the steps in the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and check if it works.
Troubleshooting Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an update
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/910339
Method 2: Try the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
a. click Startand type cmd in the box start the search .
b. right click on cmd in the list programs, and then click run as administrator.
c. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
d. at the command prompt, the following line and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
Reference:
Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System File Checker (Sfc.exe)
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310747
File system (CFS) Checker
Method 3: I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.
http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.
Important: While hard disk analysis if bad sectors are found when scanning try to repair this area, all available on which data can be lost.

The Windows Task Manager shows two instances of HpqPhUnl.exe running under XP
My windows Task Manager shows two instances of HpqPhUnl.exe Runnung.
* original title - why do I have two HpqPhUnl.exe race? *
Are you using the quick change of user with more than one user connected and are both instances of HpqPhUnl.exe running under different user names?
Although it is always possible for malware to masquerade as a legitimate file, HpqPhUnl.exe is related to the HP Photosmart Essential software provided with printers HP all-in-one.
It seems there were several problems with Photosmart Essential and HP has replaced with HP Photo Creations. HP claims, however, that he "supports" always Photosmart Essential. See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02475046&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3857372
If you have any problems and you're just curious, I suggest you leave the pretty well after scanning with the following just in case two free tools:
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware
SUPERAntiSpywareIf you experience problems with your HP software - and the scans do not present any malware - I suggest to ask in the forums HP (there are 3: consumer, Business and IT resources.)

Download CARDFILE. EXE running under windows 7/XP compatibility?
Can someone help me get CARDFILE. EXE running under windows 7/XP compatibility?
You can associate all the CRD files to cardfile.exe. Then make a shortcut to one of your records CRD and the shortcut will launch automatically cardfile.exe and open your clicked in CRD file.
How do you associate files CRD with cardfile.exe? Easy. Right click on one of your CRD records, select Properties. On the general tab, there is an article entitled: "opens with: There is a 'CHANGE' button to the right which, when clicked, takes you to a list of applications from which you can choose. You can configure your system open the CRD files with any application of your choice, but the CRD files are from cardfile.exe, then this would be your best choice.
I hope this helps.

MsiExec.exe running at all times
Seems I'm always 2 instances of msiexec.exe running at all times. So far, I ran the Windows Installer Clean up tool, enabling the service to manual start and down anti virus scans. I can disable it in the Task Manager, but as soon as I restart, they are all two back on even if I do not want to install anything.
When I try to install anything, I get the message that windows is already install something and try again later. I manually close msiexc.exe with the Task Manager and then the installation goes smoothly.
Thank you
Roy

ExternalInterface sometimes... other local running
So I develop training on the web that will come eventually in a learning management system. When it is in the LMS, we use ExternalInterface and Javascript to communicate with Flash.
But sometimes the same course must run locally or publish possibly to a projector.
I use ExternalInterface.available to check if it is available. If it isn't then there is no ExternalInterface available then clearly there is no LMS communication (light version).
But the other bits is complicated. When you test locally in the Flash IDE ExternalInterface.available returns the value true, but there is nothing really to interface with.
Any suggestions on how to know if it actually is javascript to help me to get out and communicate with the LMS?
Thank you.
Create a js function that returns something. If your ExternalInterface.call("saveglobalscore",score) does not return the expected, the swf file is not embedded by a html file.
