Remove the hard drive and optical drive on HP pavilion 500-164
Hello
I was eager to build a new computer and was hoping to use the hard drive and the optical drive from the Hp Pavilion 500-164 to reduce their costs. I'm confused as to how to remove the optical drive, because I removed the two screws on the left and don't know how to get to the other side as it wouldn't come out. When you remove the hard drive, the SATA cable wouldn't come off, so I stopped here and would like some advice on how to remove the hard drive from its Bay.
Thank you

Satellite R630 - second HDD recognized as optical drive in the BIOS
I own a Toshiba R630 and recently replaced the original disc with a Crucial SSDS with improved performance. I use the old Hitachi drive in an external enclosure via eSATA trouble-free port, but this configuration requires both port eSata/USB combo and a second USB just for power, so I bought a cart of 9.5 mm to put the disc on DVD rentals.
Today I went ahead. Physically, everything goes well (apart from the fact that I had to remove the back cover, more than 25 screws; I took the opportunity to clean the fan) but when I turned on the computer and BIOS the Hitachi drive is recognized as an optical drive!
You can see an image here:
After that I could get into Windows 7 (64), disk management recognizes it as a disk, but is unable to initialize. After restarting the computer, I can't get Windows anymore, because it directly goes to the recovery mode.
Any help would be appreciated! Is it possible to do the BIOS to recognize the second disk as a hard drive?
Carlos
+ The message was edited: faulty link has been removed.
First I would recommend you to check the boot device order.
No doubt the STRANGE was set first boot device and portable tries to boot from the HARD drive that is connected to the controller of the STRANGE.
If this does not work, delete the old HDD Hitachi, reset the default BIOS and try to start once more.To be honest I'm not quite sure if the BIOS would support such configuration Mr. I mean not all laptops can be upgraded with a 2nd HDD and in many cases, the BIOS would bear not the HDD installed in the ODD Bay so this configuration can cause problems.

Hi all!
I intend to add an SSD for my HP Pavilion p263nl-15 Notebook PC. I found some sites that I can remove the optical drive and put a second drive using a caddy adapter in the optical drive Bay. I found that some people on the forum did it successfully, but nothing on my PC model. I want to know if he could work with my product.
In other words, there is my plan:
1 remove the real disk HDD hard bay and replace it with the new SSD.
2. remove the optical drive and replace it with the adapter caddy containing my old HDD.
3. do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD using a USB key recovery made with my real Windows 10 system (which has been updated from Windows 8.1 July 2016).
I already have a 120 GB OCZ SSD (OCZ Vertex 3).
I have a few questions before buying the adapter:
1 - the two drives (my old HDD and the new SSD) are recognized by the motherboard / BIOS and the operating system (Windows, 10)? Is there a limit to a unique HARD/SSD disk drive on the computer?
2 should. What size the card be? I found offers for 9.5 mm and 12.7 mm that are supposed to be suitable for HP Pavilion in general
3 - these parts work together and with my computer (size, compatibility)? You can expect any problems with this upgrade?
4 - clean install Windows 10 quote, because I intend to install it on a different drive than the one I used to create the key USB recovery flash? I have never done a clean install of Windows before.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Alessandro
p.s. in this section of the forum (where I took most of the post), the solution worked almost perfectly, but it's a different product of the Pavilion 15 ^^
Hello
1. Yes,
2. your machines use 9.5 mm SATA Tray,
3 problem? I can't answer this question because who knows nothing until the track.
4. I don't know how you create USB recovery but a good new installation should work.
Kind regards.

Hello!

3. do a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD, using a recovery USB stick made with my system Windows 10 real (which has been updated from Windows 8.1).
I plan to purchase the following parts:
1 - a HDD / SSD cart adapter for HP Pavilion 15 (model OBHD9-SATA-SATA-BU9), of NewmodeUS (http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=583)
2 - a SSD 128 GB (article SDSSDHP - 128G), SanDisk (http://www.sandisk.com/products/ssd/sata/ultra-plus/?capacity=128gb)
I have a few questions before I buy parts:
1 - the two drives (my old HDD and the new SSD) are recognized by the motherboard / BIOS and the operating system (Windows, 10)? Is there a limit to a unique HARD/SSD disk drive on the computer?
2 - the height of the SSD is 7mm, and it seems that my old HDD is 9.5 mm in height (model WDC WD10JPVT-60A1YT0). It would cause no problem (I need to add spacers)?
3 - these parts work together and with my computer (size, compatibility)? You can expect any problems with this upgrade?
4 - clean install Windows 10 quote, because I intend to install it on a different drive than the one I used to create the key USB recovery flash? I have never done a clean install of Windows before.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Your plan is perfect. The SSD to will of 7 mm that always come back fine it just will be lower in the caddy. The holes and SATA connections are in the same place as a hard drive of 9.5 mm. You can use a spacer (many SSD include one in the box) but not really necessary.
Installing SSD for Windows 10 the way you expect is not really "own", that he will again introduce files and programs, in my opinion and certainly drivers. Whatever it is, it works perfectly and activates the old installation has been enabled.
The hard disk in the optical adapter will not be bootable and will transfer the data a bit slower than a drive in the main compartment, but will still be usable for most cases. If you need fast input/output like Photoshop or video editing move the job file to the first SSD. Alternatively, you may wish to consider documents and photos and other migration on the HARD drive to keep the 128 GB SSD to fill. You can right-click on these files and select 'place' and move them. After the back if you need some help with that.
Enjoy.

Can I replace the optical drive of the ENVY 15 t-k000 with a hard drive?
Hello!!
I just got the HP ENVY 15 t-k000 http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/G0T95AV?HP-ENVY-15t
Can I replace the optical drive with an SSD (for example, Seagate 600 240 G)? Thank you!
I saw there are several videos helping to remove the top cover and replace the optical drive. But it does not expressly say that the optical drive can be replaced by a hard drive.

Yes you can. Here's the part you have to do with. Just remove the optical drive, add a hard disk in one of these adapters and replace it for the optical drive:
https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/
You may also need to swap the façade of the old optical disc to make the installation of good look.
I wouldn't use this for one SSD. An SSD belonged to the main disk space to enjoy the speed. The drive into the optical drive adapter will not be bootable and it will be not given quite as fast as the main hard drive transfer speeds. So if you have a drive in this card, a big (1 TB) and slow (5400 RPM) drive would be preferable. It will be purely for storage and it is still fast enough to see the video of for example but if you are doing video editing I would try not to edit videos from the optical drive Bay. Move them to the fastest reader first.

How can I remove optical drive of the Satellite P300-156?
Hello
I just ordered a HD-DVD-R (Toshiba SD-L902A) for my P300-156 drive, but I don't see how I can remove my existing laptop DVD - RW drive.
Does anyone know how this can be done without opening the case?
Hello
To remove the CD/DVD drive, first remove the screws of this CURIOUS.
The screw is hidden under the keyboard.
Therefore, you will need to remove the keyboard first.
The keyboard is fixed with 2 screws. These screws are hidden beneath the thin plastic (door-KB)
First, you must remove this support KB to get access to these two screws.
After you remove the keyboard, you will find a screw that holds the ODD. Remove it and disconnecting an optical disc drive to the connector on the system board. But note; Be careful and all you are doing is at your own risk AND PERIL!

Portege R500 - Bad optical drive delays the start - how to fix?
The Portege R500 has recently begun does not start. Initially there not some time later, frequently. By chance, I discovered that if I left alone for a minute or two, he will continue to start. That and the noise coming from the optical driver, made me suspect the problem was not with the HARD drive, as I feared at first, but with the optical driver.
I read in the thread below that other people had this problem. MrBear mentions * I pulled it out again and pushed on the Ribbon connecting the CD-ROM to make sure they were safe. Turned on again and he pulled up without problem! *
Link: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=43300&tstart=0]
Could someone clarify in what ribbons must be treated? Only those who are visible by opening the drive? Or it is necessary to open the notebook?
Furthermore, if I booted into Windows, it stopped again, for a minute or two, while Windows is loading. With Ubuntu, there is no such problem. Perhaps Windows tries to communicate with the optical driver for some reason any.
Tnaks for any help!
LeonardoHello!
Is your laptop still under warranty? If so I put t understand why you try to solve the problem by yourself. Go to the nearest EPA and ask a technician for help. These guys are very useful and they have the most experience on laptop repairs.
On the Toshiba site, you can search the nearest ASP:
http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported downloads & => find an authorized service providerAnd the problem with Windows, it is difficult to tell why Windows stops for a minute. Maybe it s a software problem so disable all programs that you start n t need in msconfig.
Good bye

Pavilion p6-2033de: mounting an additional hard drive to the Pavilion p6 2033de
I want to get an extra hard drive in this machine (SSD). Can you tell me what I need to do? It doesn't seem to be an extra Bay for another hard drive, although there is certainly a spare SATA connector on the motherboard and a spare power connector. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Hello
Your PC is not configured for multiple drives.
- If you don't use your optical drive then remove it and use a 5.25 "adapter 2.5". You can always get an external adapter or an enclosure for the optical drive.
- Use a 3.5 "to 2.5" adapter and attach the SSD to the bottom of the PC.
- This double stacking support 3.5 "HD with a 3.5" to 2.5 "adapter might work.
- You might be able to bolt the SSD on the area just above the hard drive. Try to align the SSD at inside the fame of some of the existing holes. This thread can give you some ideas.
