Using the optical drive from the R1F tablet to install programs on first Zenbook during the migration?

My new ASUS Zenbook premium has no optical drive. In addition to the migration of files from my ASUS R1F running XP Tablet, there are also some programs that I need to install on my Zenbook, Win8 running.  Can I use optical drive of my tablet, like a cd player outside of sorts, to install programs on my Zenbook?

I decided to stay away from win 8, so I can't tell you if there are peculiarities with her.
"Homegroup" networking was introduced in Windows 7 and as you pointed out, does not work with XP.

Here are some tips to Win 7; I don't know if they are fully applicable to Win 8

  • iMac frozen by using the migration wizard

Hi, I tried to use the Migration Wizard to transfer my settings my iMac to a MacBook Pro new etc.  The transfer failed, and now my iMac froze with transferring your screen information, suggesting it will update your system settings.  On that note, it has been frozen for several hours.  I tried to force quit but it sounds right.  I also tried turning it off, but when I turn on the power, even once, it returns the same screen.

    Anyone have any suggestions. ?

By 'frozen' do you mean that you cannot move the cursor?

If two Macs are connected wireless, it can take several hours, even days, finish the Migration Wizard. If you can't wait that long, you can force the Mac does not close in holding the power button down for several seconds. Then, connect the Mac to another using Ethernet cables and if necessary appropriate adapters and start the migration. You can connect to each other directly, or through a router. A wired connection to avoid the vagaries of wireless communication.

  • Can I use an optical drive as a drive backup of the file history?

I want to use a DVD drive as a backup... win now called historical file... by car.  Flash and HDs readers see an option, but not internal or external optical drives.  They can be used?

What operating system are you talking?

An external drive, network, or the Cloud drive are seen the best options. DVD players are not seen as viable options. Read this microsoft document on setting up a historic file player.

  • my external optical drive from shintaro has stopped working

I have an optical drive external shintaro who has well functioned at the start and just

Suddenly abandoned. Now, he's just rattling noises. Is there something

    Can I do?

Is - this external hard drive (smaller) type that is getting power from the USB port of the iMac?  What is bigger, with its own power supply?

Have you tried unplugged power (to completely disable)?  You stop the iMac also (power OFF).  Disconnect all the USB devices, with the exception of the standard USB keyboard and mouse (if used).  The iMac power and connect the optical drive se, to a USB direct on the iMac.  If a port does not work, try a different port.  If you have more than one USB cable, try another, to exclude the defective cable.  If the optical drive is USB 3.0, make sure that the cable you are trying is also assessed for USB 3.0 (not an older USB 2.0 cable).

  • My password changed after using the migration wizard

I have improved my SSD and installed OSX then migration assistant to transfer everything from my old SSD to the new. Now that he's been transferred I can't complete the process, because the password I am using has changed.

I was running Yosemite but installed the new drive, I used the Apple internet option to install the OS, which returned to Lion.

I chose 'Reset using Apple ID', but nothing is happening.

I also tried the master password option, but do not always remember with a "master" password I assumed he was referring to an admin password but my user account is in my admin account.

    Any ideas?

First, please ensure that caps lock is not on. Note that on some models of laptops, the LED of the caps lock key may not work when you start up if FileVault is turned on. When shift caps lock is enabled, there will be an arrow icon in the text box where you enter the password. Build on this, not on the LED.

Another reason why the password can not be recognized, is that the keyboard (input source) in the login screen is not what you expect. You can select one of the available provisions by choosing in the menu flag in the upper right, if it is displayed, or even browse the by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space.

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the password Apple ID, then maybeApple ID can be used to reset your password for the user account. In OS X 10.10 and later versions, this option also works with FileVault, but only if you have enabled when you turn on FileVault. It is not retroactive. If not, see below.

Note: If you have enabled FileVault, this procedure does not apply. Follow rather the instructions on this page, under the heading "If you forget your password."

Start in recovery mode. When OS X Utilities window, select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

in the menu bar at the top of the screen, not one of the items in the OS X Utilities window.

In the window that opens, type this:

    resetp

Press the tab key. The partial order you entered will automatically end this:

    resetpassword

Press return. Opens a window to reset the password. Close the Terminal window to get him out of the way.

Select the boot volume ("Macintosh HD", unless you have given it a different name) if not already selected. You won't be able to do this if FileVault is turned on.

Select your username in the menu option allows you to select the account if not already selected.

Follow the prompts to reset the password. It is safer to choose a password that includes only the characters a - z, A - Z and 0-9.

    Select

    ▹ Restart 

    in the menu bar.

You should now be able to login with the new password, but will reset the keychain (empty). If you have forgotten the password for the keychain (which is normally the same as the password for the connection), there is no way to recover it.

  • Optical drive from excessive vibration form - M60

My new M60-164, which is otherwise quite impressive, suffers from what I would consider excessive vibrations induced by the optical drive to its speed top two (?). Film DVD and audio CD-speed speeds are very good, but high transfer rates there are enough strong vibrations.

Is not specific to a particular disc and it does not seem to subside, but it worries me regarding the longevity and accuracy of data transfer.

    Should I really worry... ?

    Hi Dave,.

Vibration at high speed is normally an indication that the CD or the DVD itself is not symmetrical, or that there is an imbalance in the weight on a part of the disk. This can be caused by a poorly equipped CD, which has been applied outside the Center label.

However, if you encounter this vibration on many/all CDs and DVDs then it is probably a defect in the drive itself (probably in the disc of locking mechanism in which case the only option is to take the phone to a repairer approved for her to check.

    Kind regards

  • PowerEdge T20 manual said to use an optical drive (slim) of 9.5 mm, but it is too small

Seemed to be a no-brainer to install an optical drive in my new PowerEdge T20 but, no.

    The manual says:

NOTE: Only thin 9.5 mm drive SATA DVD - ROM or DVD +/-RW drive can be installed in your system. External optical drives can be connected through USB ports.

It's wrong of the manual, I think. A high 9.5 mm drive is too small (not big enough).

Or am I missing something completely obvious?

    TIA

    Bob Crabtree

    Hello.

You seem to be correct. All the information that I've looked up indicates that the DVD, SATA Assembly is 12.7 mm and 9.5 mm height not. I'll wear this discrepancy to the attention of a dedicated team for correcting the manuals.

    Thank you
