Hello

Were there any changes made to the computer before the show?
Since you are able to start safe mode, remove all external devices that are connected to the computer. Access tools for system recovery and in the command prompt, run the disk check. See the link.
Steps1:
What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?
Step 2:
  1. Select command prompt.
  2. Type chkdsk/r (note: there is a space after chkdsk)
  3. Restart the computer and allow to run the disk check.
Important: When running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area so all available data on this risk to be lost
Step 3:
You can even try the option system restore which is available in the system recovery tools.

Normally with Acer, you won't get the Option to repair.

If the problem persists with the settings reinstall, contact Acer; as it is their recovery process, not Microsoft:

  • Start menu doesn't have not of recent programs

My Start menu has 2 items checked to store and display recently opened programs. BUT the list of programs displayed is NOT a list of programs recently open.

There are programs I opened yesterday not on the list.

There are programs MS 'default' in my menu that I've never opened such as Windows Media Center, Center of picture Windows and Windows Live Messenger download, Windows DVD maker WelcomeCenter.

However your info make me look in another location. I've found that I can remove items from the list on the right click on the item and select Remove from the list.

    Hello

Try to start in safe mode.
Restart your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard.
Then an advanced boot menu should appear.

    Here, select SafeMode (if possible)

If this does not work, you will need to use the recovery disk and must recover the new laptop

But this means that your disk should be formatted and you will lose the data stored on the HARD drive

HP mini 110-1129nr with windows xp home edition, on said boot computer could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \windows\system32\config\system computer has no cd/dvd drive. Computer does not load in safe mode, I ran disk hard main test self test it says completion test: failure, check the status: 7 (filled with the read element of the test failed). Help.

You need an external DVD drive to get the repair will.

Also the device you own does not seem to have built in the recovery partition. I'm not sure about later versions of this machine, however, it is best to check with HP.

The problem is that there is a corruption of the registry on your OS or the system could not find where the registry files are due to system files or boot corrupted file.

A repair can be made with an external DVD, the worst case, is that if the repair doesn't work you reinstall Windows.

You need to change the boot sequence:

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.

    Restore point:

Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

You can repair the associations used to readers.  One of my fellow MVPS, Shawn (no relationship lol) has default binding settings in his site here:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

Just scroll down to find the link of 'reader', click it, and launches the link.  You can do the same thing with "folder" and "directory" to be thorough.

  • Error: alert! Previous attempts to start this system have failed at checkpoint [size].

I tried upgrading the video card in my dell dimension, but doing so caused this error, error: alert! Previous attempts to start this system have failed at checkpoint [size]. I removed the new video card and put the old one back, but the error still occurs. Any help on how to fix this error would be much appreciated.

    Not necessarily...

Power off, unplug... Remove the motherboard battery... Remove all memory modules except to location 1. Reinstall the battery and see if it boots now.

Then, repeat the process and share all the modules on the slot 1, one at a time until you ID a bad module. If they all work in location 1, add modules one at a time for other locations until all are reinstalled and it boots or you ID a bad location.
