After a power failure when I start my PC, it gets to the screen... "We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully... KB307545 is a very bad idea to begin with - especially after a power failure (and it's usually just a very bad idea). You don't describe symptoms suggestive of a need to run the KB307545, but, I'm not a Microsoft Support engineer so don't hesitate if you are forced to do, and I wish you good luck.
What you need to do, is start in the XP Recovery Console and run chkdsk/r first. Is is possible that the blackout damaged your NTFS file system and a chkdsk/r is to clean it.
Provide information on your system, the better you can:
What is your system brand and model?
What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?
Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..
The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination? (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)
The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?
You have a true bootable XP installation CD (it is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?
Sometimes, when XP has a problem starting or falls down and tries to start again, it will give you a "short" menu of boot options and none of them will appear to be good to get your system going again. You have tried them all!
The options are similar to the Advanced Boot Options menu XP, but the only option that you need (disable automatic error system reboot) are not offered, because XP went too far during the boot process and offers a limited number of boot options.
If this is the case, you must call Options menu advanced boot yourself until you do not see the option:
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure
When you get the XP Advanced Options correct start menu you want to see, he has options on it like these:
Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with command promptEnable Boot logging
Enable VGA mode
Last good Configuration known (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debug mode
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failureStart Windows normally
Reset
Return to OS Choices MenuYou need to choose in this menu is the option:
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure
Then if XP does not start normally, you will see an error screen with information and clues about the problem and then you can decide what to do next.If you do not see the automatic restart on system failure option turn it off, you must reset your system and start typing the key F8 on the keyboard until you see her disable automatic restart on system failure option.
If you miss the window of opportunity F8, you must try again and start tapping the F8 key with more urgency (earlier and more frequently) until you see disable automatic restart on system failure, and then select.
You must keep trying the F8 menu until you see disable automatic restart on system failure option, and select it.
If your system has a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), we need to know what the screen says:
Here's a BSOD example showing information you provide:
http://TechRepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpg
Send for the nose and the Red arrows (3 to 4 lines total).
Send all * line STOP message since there are clues in the 4 parameters.
If it looks like there is some kind of name listed in the STOP message file, send this line also.
Ignore the boring text unless it seems important to you. We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.
Answering queries and results report of the disable automatic restart on system failure screen and you can decide what to do next.
See what the BSOD said would be interesting, but I would still recommend that you run chkdsk /r from the XP Recovery Console to make sure your file system is not damaged.
Answer the questions and we can see what to do next.

Featuring strange light in the "Normal" display mode
Hello world. I would appreciate your help with a problem that had me driven nuts today. I'm sure that there is a simple explanation - but I'm certainly not!
I had another designer working on one of my InDesign grids and when I open in Normal display mode - there's this strange cyan highlighting (see screenshot). I asked them to let me know if they changed something in the document preferences, but they did not get back to me.
It does NOT highlight a police problem - there is no problem with fonts and no pre-press error so I'm sure it's just a display problem. Any ideas, what is on or changed guys please? Any help gratefully received...
Thank you very much
Rosie
It looks like the highlight of style-override, such noted earlier today in another thread:
(it was red in some prior versions, but now is cyan)

MacBook Pro 13 '' end 2015. 256 GB SSD drive. El Capitan last version 10.11.4. I turned on the Macbook Pro and it could not start. The progress bar with the Apple Logo would be present but would end not showing the symbol «» I tried to boot mode safe - no go. I have not reset PRAM help. I was able to access disk utility and run successfully the first aid. No help. I was unable to restore two separate backup. The utility show me backups however when I would go to the next screen and no backup is available. Disk utility displays the SSD. Can I erase the disc and download OS X install? Thank you.
At this point, there is no need to delete. A new copy of Mac OS X can be installed directly over the old copy. This process replaces the components of Mac OS X on a file by file basis and adds missing ones, there will be no major throwing away what anyone, unless there is a power failure.
You have already run disk first aid.
Now use mode of recovery (command + R to start) to "Re-install Mac OS X. It should install the latest revision of the main version that you ran last.

Original title: Critics of the process is dead
Hello
Yesterday, my Acer Aspire given bsod with the critical error process is dead. I am on Windows 8 and cannot enter the old f8 for safe mode to fix.I don't have a disc of Windows 8, I downloaded Microsoft 8. Acer not supplied with Windows 7 preinstalled, so once again no disc. Microsoft when I asked how do to access safe mode tried to charge me $ 99 more taxes to do this.Does anyone know how to access the mode without failure under Windows 8 in does not?Thank youI usually access SafeMode in this way. Go to made CMD.exe right click and run as administrator. Then type msconfig. When it opens, go to start at the top and then click safe mode. You might be able to do this if you are able to get an installation media for windows8. There is a command-line option when you go to fix your computer. You might be able to do it here because you cannot start windows.

where the 'normal' blend mode gone
I have a problem with my mix mode drop-down list, that of the top bar next to the size of the brush, I superimposed and multiply and all what else but 'normal' do I reinstall my software yet or is - something miss me or do not, is there anyone who can answer this for me?
On the options bar to the Brush tool, there are a small arrow, top of left page. Click on that, then the reset tool. Who can fix it.
Another thing to try is to choose one of the modes, and then use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll through the different options of mode. On my system, "«normal» normal" is up in the list.

Flashing black rectangles on the normal display mode (not full screen)
In the last two weeks, I downloaded the latest version of Firefox. Now when I open a browser, black flashing boxes appear whenever my cursor moves and the screen is unusable because of this. The only solution I have found so far is to use the mode setting full-screen. Then, the screen is stable and the black boxes are not anywhere on the page. Anyone has a suggestion on how to fix flashing black boxes?
Please see images added to this posted question. Thank you!!!

also, disabled addons. See above. On win7. IE and google earth normal run. Abandoned, using IE for a month. On another PC so site reads the wrong plugins.
Start the computer in Mode safe mode with network support Windows (on the startup screen, press F8) as a test to see if that helps.

So I updated last night, this morning I noticed that a lot of the text on Web sites are in bold.
For example when doing web yahoo mail unread messages must be "BOLD", while read messages shouldn't be now, they are all "BOLD" anything.
I started in safe mode, thinking that an addon was broken and at the normal search that seemed to confirm that.
So I disabled all the addon and manually restarted in normal mode, the problem was back.I confirmed all was the addon still handicapped and restarted in safe mode once again, fixed... so I disabled both the plugin and extensions... still broken in normal mode.
At one point I thought it might be the default aspect so I downloaded one that looks like 3.6 and this one broke... again. So that's what I'm wondering, what is not loaded in safe mode which is always loaded when you manually turn off all extensions and plugin?
This could be a problem with the new features related to the police who are trying to use your graphics card. You can enable those here:
Tools > Options > advanced > [disable] "use hardware acceleration when available.
(It's one of the things that turn off safe mode.)
I don't know if you'll see results immediately, or if you must restart Firefox.

Problem Windows XP Home - stuck in 'safe' mode - don't reset the normal start upward
Hope someone can help me please.
My laptop is stuck in 'safe' diagnostic mode and I can't get back to "Normal Mode - load all the drivers of devices and services"
I am running Windows XP SP3 - Home edition (think it's 2002)
I was uninstalling Norton Internet Security so I can install Kaspersky rather
I put it in diagnostic mode after a few instructions, that I got from Internet regarding the delete correctly all files, Norton etc after uninstalling
However, it will not return to the normal mode - even if I go into the System Configuration utility (to run msconfig) and I click Normal startup. He never actually starts in normal mode - even if it's on the normal radio button (sometimes it's on another option such as 'selective' or 'diagnostic'. Sometimes, I get a window on early upsaying that I am in the "diagnostic" mode and tells me to go up to the normal startup. I have it, but it doesn't fix it.
I also cannot run a lot of things and, for example, cannot play music on YouTube. I tried Windows update also, but it does not work.
This means that I've lost a large part of the functionality of my system - including the ability to install the Kaspersky Internet Security - so I have no anti virus etc.
I tried to reset the dozen about 3 times and restarted following guests etc., but nothing works
Can someone please?
Thank you
Richard

start the computer in normal mode with settings in safe mode
I restarted my computer from malwarebyes in safe mode and when he started he uses in normal safe mode settings. I tried to use the last good settings and she didn't date there. no old parameters. No idea how to get back to normal settings?
You can either restore your system to a previous state.
If this does not work, have to "msconfig" (run-> msconfig)
In the new window, in the "general" tab, you can see three options like normal startup, diagnostic and selective upward.
Select normal startup. then restart apply.and.
That's all.Thank you.

my laptop keeps going to the start page. No matter which option I choose, IE. safe mode, safe mood with networking, safe mode with command prompt, last known, good configuration start windows normally, it always comes back to the same screen. saw this post before and the invloved boot cd solution. I have not a cd ROM is there another way to solve this problem. Thank you people
Thank you for taking the time to make this post very informative, excellent. Without the machine test myself that I can't be sure, but based on the age of the computer and what you wrote I suspect for lack of material. It could be something simple like the hard drive or RAM or something more serious like the motherboard. I wouldn't recommend replacing any material on such an old laptop.
As long as the hard disk has been physically, you can recover your data easily. If the hard drive has failed, then you will need to send the drive to a professional drive savers data recovery company. It is quite expensive ($500-3700), but they can usually recover your data. Some insurance policies cover also, professional data recovery in order to check with yours. But let's be optimistic. ;-)
IMPORTANT - If there is no question that the drive is at fault - there are noises, for example - and the data is crucial NOTHING else ON THE DISC. Whenever launch you this player you can destroy data. If this is the case, send the drive to a professional data recovery company.
I'll give you the information on how to test the hard drive to see if it's good physically and how to recover data when you can't in Windows but in doing these things requires a certain level of computer skills. You know yourself the best and that it would be better to take the laptop to a competent local professional. If you do this, do not use a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place. Get recommendations from family, friends and colleagues.
A. test equipment
Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.http://www.Seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/SeaTools/seatooldreg
http://Seagate.custkb.com/Seagate/CRM/selfservice/search.jsp?docid=201271 (how-to)Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. You will probably need to change the boot order. Your Dell can give you a temporary boot menu if you press F12 as the computer starts. If so, use your arrow key to select the CD drive. Otherwise, press F2 to enter in Setup (BIOS) and change the order of boot on the CD drive first. If the disk fails all physical tests, it must be replaced. Although readers of the laptop cost around $60, you should really consider if it is to put money in such an old machine. You can replace the disk, but the laptop is definitely at the end of its normal life and something else is doomed to failure.
There is information about the RAM test and other materials here:

B. retrieve data detach a healthy disk when you are unable to Windows
1 remove the drive and put it in a box of USB drive or use a USB adapter. Attach it to a computer that is running a working XP/Vista/Windows7 installation. Use the work of Windows Explorer to copy the data to the hard drive of the system to the rescue and burn data on cd or dvd.2. you can start the target computer with a Bart PE (if you use XP) or a Linux live CD like Knoppix and retrieve the data in this way. General information about the use of Knoppix for this are:
You will need a computer with two cd records, which is an engraver of CD/DVD OR a USB stick with a capacity to hold your data OR an external USB hard disk formatted FAT32 (not NTFS) *. Download Knoppix .iso image file and create your bootable CD. If you do this in a previous (XP or Vista) operating system, you will need the third burning like Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn software (Windows 7 can burn .isos natively). Burn as an image, not in the form of data. Then boot with the CD that you created, and Knoppix will be able to see the files in Windows. If you use the USB key or an external hard disk, right-click on its icon (on the desktop) to get its properties and uncheck "read only". Then click on it to open it. Note that the mouse action by default in the window manager used by Knoppix (KDE) is a simple click to open instead of double-click traditional MS Windows. If you want to burn CD/DVDs, use the K3b program.
* My understanding is that you can now write on NTFS from Linux partition. If you wish to do this, Google for instructions on the use of the NTFS driver.
