  Here's my situation (new at this stuff, so I hope that more information will help you with help replied... question I need help below.)

  My white box server hardware:

  Server hardware: Asus P6T i7 920, 12 Gig RAM, card Ethernet Intel Pro1000 PT Quad, 3ware 9650SE-12ML (I seek in get battery backup, just in case the powersuppy happens as I realize UPS tht is not a complete solution - right?) with 8 1.5 TB SATA green in a Raid 6 array gives me about 8 + TB with an immediate replacement all housed (I know raid 10 is more favored for speed) but this raid card has received a very good speed in testing, so I'll try first) in a CPP of NORCO-4220 4U Rackmount Server chassis.  I also have a SATA 500 GB which will hold the ESXi and virtual machines installed. The network includes a firewall, Netgear Prosafe FVS336G, GS724Tv from Netgear ProSafe 24 port Gigabit Managed Switch on a dhcp, internet modem cable

  service provider.

  My installation:

  ESXi 4.1 is installed and running.  I installed three operating systems - MS windows server 08, MS windows XP, ubuntu.  I sculpted auto table in pieces of 2 TB and want to add to Esxi.  I know that there is a debate on the use only no esxi to expand LUNS together, but I read that if they are on the same axis (table) If a drive goes the table always stand together as I have both drives and ready failure from emergency protection.

  I'm going to set up some maps of the team once I get this in place storage server to spread the load of the esxi, storage and later web server host (something for another discussion once I have the problem of storage add resolved first (I think).)

  How to add storage, it's new to me and I need some help here:

  I see all the LUNS data store when I go to the configuration tab, then select storage from the left column, then select Add storage.  I select the network file system (nfs later to have an xfs file system).

  • The first property page comes up, and I'm not sure what to ask for server?:  What do I put here... the .com address I Set up with Ddns, or should I put my real numbered address location (which is the same as the server esxi because that's a local disk array)?

  • The next is the folder... which means that it has already been formatted and a folder has been on this Lun... is that what I need to do first before you add the datastore Lun?  and if so, do, I use to see and format the drive and the folder where can I choose / set up?

  • The box check mark that read mounting NFS only means what?

  • ... Should name of the data store I put the name I've seen who sees esxi (if I chose the other option when I select ' disk/Lun"instead of Network File System)?

  I'm stuck at this point and don't know what to fill in here.  I want to install openfiler and use the LUNS with 2 extensions to a 4 GB card (or should I just let separate, even though my comment above also indicate) as storage location and power access from systems virtual OS I installed, but also computers in local network and set up further access on portions of internet/files to this storage.  I understand there are many ways to mounting configurations, and that's why I tried to give as much information as I could so that someone can give me some answers above questions, direct examples or suggestions.

  Also, is it all the other important issues that I have to review after I get this set-up?  I know I have to work on setting up my quad for grouping, another thing network ports?

  If it's a local storage on disk/Lun. If vsphere detects the LUN that you then will be then prompted to format. BTW. You need to 2 TB - 512 KB by size of the LUN.

  NFS is only applicable if you have an NFS server with externally connected storage, that's why you're being invited with so many settings to connect.

  When you restart the server, you should see an option to create a matrix of storage before the ESXi begins to start up (this option is available for almost all servers and appears between POST process and startup). Select the option and create a RAID 0 array on second HARD drive. Start the ESXi server after that. You have to be sure that the second HDD is not in use or it will be formatted.

  When the ESXi has started, go to Configuration-> Storage-> rescan all. After the news of the analysis is complete, go to storage add and you should see the table that you just created. After you have added storage, it will be visible as a the ESXi data store.

  Hi all, I am new to scripting, trying to find a script that adds disks to host ESX just as we do on vcenter.

  Rescan Disks - storage add - select disk/Lun - naa ID is known - Keep existing signature - finishing

  Scenario is that: I have 50 + replicated discs that I have to import the site of recovery with a known naa.ids

  Lun ID as below:

  Disk Fibre Channel (naa.500506680180831a8000000000000505): 1

  PS: Keep existing signature is not a must, could be assigned a new signature. All I need is not for formatting the disk cause there no are data inside.

• Storage available only on a host in a cluster

  I'm having a strange problem with storage not appearing is not on more than one host. Here are the details:

  I've recently updated vCenter Server to 5.5. Guests still running 5.0. I have a production data center that works very well, and I have a backup site data center. The backup site data center is having this problem. I got an existing LUN copied on the hot site SAN and presented to all hosts on the hot site. I rescan for the new storage and guests see the new LUN and everything looks good there.

  When I go to the store to add, this is when I see this problem. I go to the first host, storage add, add the LUN, it sees, reads the VMFS data correctly and adds it and it appears in the list of storage. So far so good. He reanalysis for VMFS on other hosts, but they do not show the new storage. I have manually rescan and still, they do not show the storage.

  If I remove the LUN from the host first, go to another host, add the LUN, it reads very well, he presents in the storage and works OK, but then none of the other hosts see it, even one that comes if she had on her and she saw OK.

  The production data center and hosts are works well, adding LUN functions normally, it's just this data center hot site I see it on.

• Can add only 1 Datastore in ESXi 5

  I installed ESXi U1 5.0 on a new Dell PowerEdge T320.  It is installed on a USB drive and I could book the RAID 5 of 3 disks to the desire of my heart.  The table is 1.8 to and ESX, he sees very well.  I am able to create a store of data (via VMFS3 or 5), using a fraction of the available space (for example 250 GB), but when I try to create a 2nd store of data, storage add-> select disk/LUN window is empty.  I can remove a data store and can keep going back to create one, but it's all I can do. Someone at - it an idea on why this is happening?

  The GUI does not list a LUN with an already existing partition because VMware supports only a single VMFS (data store) partition on a LUN. There may be workarounds to create warehouses of multiple data on a single LUN from the command line, but you should instead consider splitting the RAID in several logical volumes, if you want or need more small data warehouses.

Currently tutte macchine sono su UN singolo host non sono molte pero I like the ibm_db ripristinare come era prima e più tranquillo stare...

  Altra cosa di recent capitata da era UN lo switch fits on tilt client I con trunk, al riavvio di UN nodo ESXi connetteva non più niente.

  Abbiamo SC lo switch... Parliamo di robetta Ovviamente da scarso, netgear, zyxel, guardacaso o tipo budget IOC procurve mi non è may capitato.

  SE lo pass pare a posto, altre volte e bastato dictionary I second del trunk fino a solo uno lasciarne.

• lost storage

  A month ago I add a second SATA drive on my ESXi 3.5 b238493.

  I set up this disk as third 1 TB data store and I installed a new virtual machine. Now, after 1 month of installation, I restarted the host computer and the virtual machine the first 2 old are OK, but the recent third vm is inaccessible. In the storage section, I do not see the data store, and if I go to storage add this disk to appear as a new drive.

  Connect to the console (unsupported) of ESXi and check if your drive still contains partitions. (fdisk-lu)

  The partition type has to be "FB". Please after the output of the above command.

• Add more disk space for the ESX host

  Hi all

  I need to throw more disk space to my ESX hosts.  I know how to bind records in Navisphere and present to the ESX host.  Once in the VI client, I "think" I need to go to the host and do a rescan of the HBA or something like that?  I'm a little unsure of the market of part VI to add more disk space.  Could someone just point me in the right direction?  Please note that I am looking to add more disks to existing hosts in existing clusters.  It adds no storage to a new host... rather an existing one.

  You are on the right track.  Re-scan storage card, under the configuration tab select storage adapters, select the adapter and click on the link of the new analysis.  Then go to the storage section and there should be a link in the top right of the screen that says storage Add.  Click on that and it will guide you in adding/setting in form/naming of the new disk.

• Where's my storage?

  I have a server Dell 2900 with dual core quad, 12 GB of RAM and a PERC 6 / i RAID controller.  The system has two RAID groups: a set of RAID 5 of 3 disks made from 146 GB SAS drives and a set of RAID 5 4 1 TB SATA disks from disks.  Two RAID groups have been completely initialized by the PERC and readers normally also virtual via the BIOS after a start.

  Installation of ESX 3.5 U3 on the smallest stack RAID took place normally. The system boots in VMWare with no error message and nothing interesting to research in newspapers.

  When I managed the host through VIC 2.5, everything seems normal.  When I look at storage adapters, I see a MegaRAID SAS 1078 type SCSI controller named "vmhba1.  Under "Details", I see two targets, with 272 GB capacity vmhba1:0:0 and vmhba1:1:0 with a capacity of 2.73 TB - both as expected.

  

  The installation has already added the freespace to the smallest table as a group of about 262 GB storage - it seems to behave normally.

  Now the question emerges.  When I click on storage storage/Add and then select disk/LUN, I see a device with 2.73 TB of storage (as expected), but only 744,95 GB as "available".

  

  Why only 744,99 GB shows as available?  Where is the rest of the storage on this table?

  I searched for hours for a similar problem, but I must not be search terms appropriate because I have not found anything similar.

  Hello Mark,

  Yes, VMware has the same basic form of windows storage problems. The limit of 2 TB...

  However, unlike windows where it allows you to use 2 TB and let him ~ 750 GB as unavailable, in VMware it manifests as he reported left AFTER the 2 TB as the space available only "available space".

  The only option I know is to redo your berries and put in place in the 2 tables rather than a single large one.

  In the end, I went with a 750 GB more small table like datastore1 and the table of 2 TB as Datastore2. It works really nice as I put "data records" on the 2nd largest array and disks 'system' on the smallest that works well with regard to the maintenance of the data if you need to rebuild a virtual machine.

  For example, in a file server, the system is running on a drive in datastore1 and the data (documents, files, etc...) lives on a 1.5 TB in datastore2 drive. And theoretically, assuming the system is lost and needs reconstruction, or even if ESX should total reinstall... or whatever, the 2nd store of data remains always intact...

  I'm sure there are probably better ways but it works fine for me, while retaining data even after a total reinstall the host and the VM...

  I tested ESXi u3 and am currently trialing ESX 3.5 u4 using exactly the same data warehouses. This configuration was allowed in the trash 2 out of my 3 paintings after that I was happy with ESXi and then created new arrays (since ESX needs more space than ESXi) and once again left the third table intact with all my data (1.5 to) on...

  Who is? Do not know if I explained myself very well...

  Oh and finally, I think that you can also work around this by using "extensions" (properties of your data store and add the measure button)... but not sure that I wouldn't trust this tbh... the same way, I don't really have confidence a RAID0 drive with no redundancy so that makes sense as well...

• How to add md1000 2.18 TB disk array to ESX host

  Hi, I am very new to VMware, and I try to add a picture of 2.18 TB md1000 disk to an ESX host.  When I go through the storage add wizzard, I see that he sees the md1000 2.18 TB of capacity, but shows only 1.8 GB available.  Anyone know what kind of configuration, I need to do for all the show of 2.18 TB as being available?

  2 TB is the maximum for a single LUN.  You need to decreate your size of the LUN to less than 2 TB.

• How to add the local disk...

  I have VMware ESX 3.5 running on a Dell 2950 with RHEL5 VM 2. At first, I started with 2 hard drives, but now needs space. I have added 4 additional disks to the Dell 2950, but am not sure how initialize and enable the VMs to make use of this space. Any help is appreciated.

  1. go in the storage controller start menu. (I think you press during boot if you have PERC.) Create a RAID volume, perhaps a RAID 5 for your 4 discs)

  No ESXI tenho uma particao 160 GB wont server 2003 e ultimativa o Acronis Partition Expert diminui para o - her pela metade, feito isto a realmente was com 80 GB e o windows reconeceu tudo blz particao, mas no o não mudou Datastore, or seja ESXI host I 80 GB as sobrou nao appears como Espaço book!

  Definition! SIM, o "remove disc" vai apagra seu vmdk libera o Espaço e no data store, mas vc perdera os dados as estiverem nesse vmdk. Caso seja o C:\ do seu vmdk esse windows, vc perdera o seu.

  NESSE caso vc tera as recriar e o disco restore o windows.

  Para reduce o vmdk sem perder os dados that are nele, vc tera as usar o converter.

• Script to determine disk space, recorded by a provisioning

  I was wondering if anyone had a script that would allow me to pull up a list of virtual machines, their space set aside (as a #, with no Go after him) and their space used (as a #, no Go after him). ID then take advantage of these data in excel, add it to this and see how much disk space we saved on our SAN by using a provisioning.

  Does anyone have an idea?  I think a script to do something like that could be very useful for many people who are able to return to management and show how much $ they recorded in SAN disk using this "new"
