Storage in vSphere Client alert
I just upgraded to vSphere client and manage an ESX 3.5 shows host... under the vSphere client data store alerts, but no detail... That suppose to mean? where can I find more information about alerts? I didn't have this option in VC 2.5
Thakns.
You go to the tab alarms and recognize the alarm? Should have better details there as well. You can also reset the alarm to the green.

Support HBA (vSphere 5) and display of the adapters for storage in vSphere client
Hi again,
Some hosts that I am looking to upgrade from ESX 4.0 update 4 to ESXi 5 bear the name of FC HBA following listed under storage adapters, and I would like to see if they are compatible with ESXi 5.
Focus on the ISP2432 4 Gb Fibre Channel to PCI Express HBA
The actual servers themselves are servers Dell M600 blades. I would say that it's just what is listed in the section of storage cards (my guess is the name of the driver). The configurations of real system for M600 blades as they were purchased from Dell are listed as having HBA QLOGIC QME2472 FC4 HBA's PORT DOUBLE PC CARD adapters in them. These are listed as supported on ESXi 5. So I guess my question is more around - what is reported in the list of storage adapters more indication of the driver name for the HBA rather than the real exact device/model of the HBA? How can I make 100% sure that this is the exact material HBA model in my hosts? i.e. the QME2472? I can use Dell OpenManage but that lists what ESX reports cards like - which is the ISP2432 base of HBA. Is there something more low level, that I can use to see the material in ESX?
See you soon,.
Sean
Yes, the HBA is supported on ESXi5. You can always check the HCL for clarification

Add crash function storage for wizzard in vSphere Client 4.1
Hello
I separatelly that install ESX 4.1 on HP DL380 G6 with 2 logical drives on SmartArray P410i, first storage was created during the installation process.
And when I try to add (second storage) storage in vSphere Client wizzard breaks down with configuration of host error, please what I m doing wrong?
Thanks for any help
Jerome Kovac
I saw another post there, someone had a similar problem because they had a few other partitions on the disk. They have manually deleted these partitions with FDISK and then managed to format the volume normally using the wizard so could be a potential cause of this? Deletion and recreation of the second virtual disk must also remove all partiions.

I have not yet connect to an iSCSI target device.
I can ping my host
when I open http:// "hostip" in a web browser, I get a 503 service not available.
restart the host gets me nowhere.
SSH opens somehow, but can not connect
Console seems OK
vSphere Client can not connect
If I reset to the default values of the console it is ok, but when I reconfigure the host, this error will be returned.
I tried to reinstall from DVD
I'm completely corrected to date via SSH esxcli
This happens on both my hosts, although they are almost identical Lenovo thinkserver TS140s with broadcom 10Gig NIC and intel NETWORK card integrated
It almost always seems to happen the next time I reboot after enabling iscsi support
The only weird thing I have is that my Integrated NIC is a processor intel 217's and I have to use a special VIB so that it can be used in ESXi

Storage view blocking my vSphere Client
Guys,
Whenever I'll click on the storage view tab in my vSphere client, it shows the message generated periodically beign thereon and may be data... click on update... That's all I get if. My client hangs and I can't do anything anywhere. I then have to kill the task out.
Any idea what's going on?
Sometimes she helps by restarting the Vmware Web services in Windows services.msc, then wait a few minutes.
What version of vSphere do you use?

vSphere Client Configuration and alarm
Hello
I recently started a new job with a company and legacy of the current system and the network. My knowledge of VMWare is ok, but I'm of course not as great as people in this community. The issue I'm facing is that there is a constant alarm that needs attention. We run vSphere Client 4.0.0. The alarm is one of our stores in DB, and it's "use of the data store on disk. The alert is set to trigger when 95% of the use of disk data store is reached. The problem seems to be this VMFS configuration... Here are the analytical capability. Ability to 99,75 go-go configured 99,55 space free space - 206 MB.
I contacted the company who originally put this in place, and their response is to ignore the alarm, because it is an efficient use of disk space. Can someone please comment if this is acceptable or not to "ignore"? I don't think it's the right way to set up a store of DB, but I just want to check.
Thank you
Jay
Hello and welcome to the forums.
You certainly don't want to ignore that. See KB 1003412 for more information.
Good luck!

VRTX Shared storage and vSphere 6.0
I installed ESXI 6 with ISO next
VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.0.0-2494585.x86_64-Dell_Customized-A00
www.dell.com/.../DriversDetails
When I go to 'Add storage' in the vSphere client it shows not available drives.
-J' created virtual disks on the VRTX
-J' associated 2 blades with one GOING on all disks
-The VD is in multiple connection mode
-J' rebooted the host
Can I get confirmation that the ISO should have all necessary drivers for the VRTX system, using blades M520?
Did I miss something?
Thanks in advance
Eric
"Can I get confirmation that the ISO should have all necessary drivers for the VRTX system, using blades M520?
EricNylen,
You can, ISO custom does not contain the necessary drivers, but the version you download is that permitting the M1000e, not that of the VRTX M520 (as "PowerEdge M520 (for EP VRTX)" line in the compatible systems would be listed "). The version you need is right here though. In addition, you can find a walk detailed on the configuration of the storage shared in the VRTX here.
Let me know how it goes.

I did a clean install of ESXi 6 with HP supplied image (ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.1.39-Mar2015).
Access to and from the warehouses of data over network via vSphere Client (6.0.0 - 2502222) is very slow - ~ 10 Mbps (there are several hundred under ESXi 5.5)
I suspect that ESXi 6 limited CPU resources used by the host to 230 MHz system.
I can't change the settings 'System Resource Reservation"(unlike ESXi 5.5, where I can change and switch to Simple or advanced mode).Hey ArnisR,
I finally found the problem. In the last 5.5 ESXi and version 6.0, they replaced the driver hpvsa (HP ISO vSphere!). With these drivers, I have known major problems with banks of data and, therefore, the controller B120i (RAID) of the Gen8 MicroServer HP.
The problem is caused by the last (HP) ISO (from March);
-Mar2015.iso 5.5.0 - Update2-2403361-HP - 550.9.2.27 VMware ESXi
-Mar2015.iso 6.0.0 - 2494585-HP - 600.9.1.39 VMware ESXi
I found out (because I had an older ISO), the ISO VMware ESXi 5.5.0-Update2-2068190-HP-5.77.3-Nov2014.iso works well! With this ISO standard, all performance issues disappeared.
The difference between the ISO is as follows. The former ISO contains the driver of storage scsi-hpvsa 5.5.0 - 88OEM. ISO (s) of March come with new storage driver scsi-hpvsa 5.5.0 - 92OEM or scsi hpvsa - 5.5.0 - 90. These drivers are the cause of the problems in the controller of B120i!
Installing ESXi 5.5 or 6 since last ISOs, you must manually install the old driver of storage (SCSI hpvsa - 5.5.0 - 88). I tested with the HPSA file scsi vib - 5.5.0 - 88OEM.550.0.0.1331820.x86_64.vib. Then I adjusted the ISO HP and equipped with the old driver. Now I can install ESXi 5.5 or 6 ISO (custom) of HP, which includes the former driver.
I hope this helps!

Setting up a location of scrape persistent by using the vSphere Client
Hello
I have an application on behalf of data store when you configure the location scratch using vsphere client.
This is the step that I have to perform to set up the scratch location and my query is
I have to specify the name of the data store for step 10, as what I see through the vsphere client IE Datastore1 (vmfs/volumes/Datastore1/.locker - ESXHostname)
OR
What I need to specity the unique id that I am able to see in ESXi console that is to say 50060160c46036df50060160c46036df (/vmfs/volumes/50060160c46036df50060160c46036df/.locker- ESXHostname)
What would be the effect? Configuration with the name of the data store for the vSphere client.
You can configure the workspace for ESXi using the vSphere Client:
- Connect to vCenter Server or ESXi host using the vSphere Client.
- Select the ESXi host in the inventory.
- Click the Configuration tab.
- Click storage.
- Click a data store, and then select Browse.
- Create a directory named only for this ESX host (for example,
.locker-ESXHostname
) - Close the browser to store data.
- Click Advanced under software settings.
- Select the ScratchConfig section.
- Change the configuration option to ScratchConfig.ConfiguredScratchLocation , indicating the full path to the directory.
For example:
/ vmfs/volumes/DatastoreName /. Locker-ESXHostname
- Click OK.
- The ESXi host in maintenance mode and restart so that the configuration change to take effect.
I ran a quick test on my test environment. You can safely enter data store, it will be automatically replaced by UUID data store when required restarting.

PowerCLI equivalent to vSphere client "Detach" memory card?
I'm trying to find the PowerCLI equirvelent to disconnect an adapter of the ESX host storage device. Preferably using the LUN ID.
For reference, in the vSphere client GUI I have run the command by selecting a host configuration tab, then select adapters and storage in detail looking at the peripheral view, I can right click on a device and have the ability to "unpin".
I've been watching the cmdlets Get-ScsiLun and Set-ScsiLun.
I have also been watching the ScsiLunPath together and wonder if Active the parameter false, that's what I'm looking for?
I am also looking to hard drive Set and remove hard drive but these commands seem to be relevant to VM and hosts no.
Any help or hints would be appreciated.
This new feature in the vSphere client 5 is not taken in charge by a cmdlet PowerCLI AFAIK.
But you can get the same result by using the DetachScsiLun method.
2 following functions (I added a function to fix as well) will allow you to detach and attach the lun.
I chose to spend the LUN target via its canonicalname, but you can easily adapt the functiosn to use another LUN property.
function Detach-Disk{ param( [VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Impl.V1.Inventory.VMHostImpl]$VMHost, [string]$CanonicalName ) $storSys = Get-View $VMHost.Extensiondata.ConfigManager.StorageSystem $lunUuid = (Get-ScsiLun -VmHost $VMHost | where {$_.CanonicalName -eq $CanonicalName}).ExtensionData.Uuid $storSys.DetachScsiLun($lunUuid) } function Attach-Disk{ param( [VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Impl.V1.Inventory.VMHostImpl]$VMHost, [string]$CanonicalName ) $storSys = Get-View $VMHost.Extensiondata.ConfigManager.StorageSystem $lunUuid = (Get-ScsiLun -VmHost $VMHost | where {$_.CanonicalName -eq $CanonicalName}).ExtensionData.Uuid $storSys.AttachScsiLun($lunUuid) }
You can call the function like this
$esx = Get-VMHost MyEsx $name = "The-canonical-name-of-the-target-LUN" Detach-Disk -VMHost $esx -CanonicalName $name

Slow vSphere Client 4.1.0 in W7 64 bit (but OK in comments 32 bit XP - Pro)
I found several discussions on this problem (for example same version of vSphere Client accesses the same ESXi Server works OK in XP guest. It worths noting that the XP guest runs inside of my Windows 7 host!
, , etc.) in Windows 7, but I also found that theOK, here are my specs:
Computer runtime Win7 (host):
CPU: Intel 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz cutter
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1067 MHz
Hard disk: 640 GB, SATA II, 7200 RPM
Operating systems: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Computer runtime XP (guest):
CPU: 2.83 GHz (1 core)
RAM: 256 MB
Hard drive: 8 GB
O/s: Windows XP Pro 32 bit
ESXi version = 4.1.0 (build 348481)
version of vSphere Client = 4.1.0 - 345043
Customer in Win7 problem, it's that I could clearly see the order by which it draws components graphics one by one (e.g. squares, the scroll bars, the small icons, the squares column header, etc.) on the screen! On XP, the content comes almost instantly!
For example, the first time I click on the "Summary" tab, it took about 6 seconds to draw all! The second time I click on it is better: 2 seconds.
Allocation of resources: 5 sec
Performance: 4 s
Configuration: 2 sec
Config can storage: 2 sec
etc, etc.
This makes me turn guest XP to run this client of snail. Very amazing!
I don't know... is this a problem with .NET?
The slow short vSphere on any system running Aero visualization Client.
Make a right click on the shortcut to the vSphere client (or the application itself), go to the tab compatibility and check the box 'disable the composition of the bureau. This will change your graphics in basic mode each time the vSphere client is running and will significantly improve the speed of drawing on the client.

VSphere Client errors after upgrade to 4.1
Since I upgraded our infrastructure to 4.1 4.0, the Vsphere Client throws an error anytime it is left open for an extended time.
If I open the client and let it sit for a few hours or overnight, I will go back to him and ther will be a popup of error with the following details.
An internal error has occurred in the vSphere Client.
Details: No enopugh storage is available to process this command.
Contact VMware support if necessary.
Once this bug has produced the error dialog box may not be rejected if you click Close, it just POPs upward. The customer is inaccessible after this point, as the error dialog box is selected and that you can not touch the main window. You must kill the client of Taskmgr. Then it will restart and will work perfectly for a certain period. Occasionally, almost hitting the error dialog will return to the client, but most of the tabs is not working and clicking on almost anything causing the error. It is not a show-stopper, but it is a time wasting, irritating bug. I've never seen the bug pop up while I was working on the customer, so I don't know what triggers it.
The client runs on Windows 7 64 bit, but I have confirmed same behavior under the Server 2008 32-bit client. I have not seen the error yet when the client is on Server 2003 32-bit, but I can't be left open long enough so that the error present. Attached are the log files that the dialog box 'Error report to VMware' wants to send. The customer is attaching to a server VCenter 2008 64 bit, not the ESXi hosts. The smallest attached data store has more than 40 GB of free space.
I have not supported active then the ratio to VMware dialogue suggested I post here. It doesn't seem to be a community specifically for the customer and this started only after the upgrade, so I posted it in this community.
Thank you
JoeI think I followed the status tab of the hardware. If I use the hardware status tab and let it sit there for a while, memory begins to be chewed.
I opened a SR w / Vmware, and they confirmed. Their words:
"After a webex and looking through our internal KBs, I was led to a bug and the KB and the bug that both speak to the material status page causing a memory leak to do with CIMs and JAVA. It looks like no to this question will be resolved in a future version, but it does not say clearly what version they will address in. 4.0U1's should be out soon. I think of 30-90 days. Workaround at this time is to not let the vSphere Client open for long periods of time. »

can not handle the vSphere client SAN
I installed a Server on a Windows 2008 32-bit with vCenter Server
vSphere Client (ESX 4 update 1) and
IBM DS300 DS4000, DS5000 vCenter Management plugin
on the same virtual machine.
I have already created a Storage Administrator role with all the privileges, give permission a user "Omar" as a storage administrator after I installed that plugin but it still says that the user doesn't have the privilege as a storage administrator.
Manager of plug-in, the plug-in is enabled.
What could be causing this problem?
Hello
Have you your new role is added to the data center level? If so, perhaps there is another role that is set up at the same level or below and prevents your user to use is new rights. Prevent access are always stronger than the access so if the same user has rights of Directors on the specific object, but somewhere above it have less straight, he'll lose his privileges.
I used to have the same kind of problems, and this was the solution I found for me.
I hope this helps!
