Storage on FIs FcoE ports

Hi, we live from Netapp for the FIs storage configured as storage fcoe ports, the FIs are FC switch mode. I see the netapp in FIs flogied so the CF part looks good. I was creating a KEEN on the Netapp side and CE marking on these ports connected to the FIs to use for ethernet/nfs traffic. I need to tag vlan 100 side FI, but it seems that there is no way I can do this. The config on made them is as below.

FI - A (nxos) # sh run int eth1/23

interface Ethernet1/23

F: FcoeStorage description

PIN border

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk vlan native 4049

switchport trunk allowed vlan 2000,4049

no downtime

FI - A (nxos) # sh run int vfc745

interface vfc745

link interface Ethernet1/23

switchport trunk allowed vsan 2000

no downtime

The NXOS running on the FIs is read-only. How to allow to vlan 100 int eth1/23?

You also need to configure the port as a port of the device.  This will make a "Unified storage" port rather than simply FCoE_Storage port.  When you add the role of 'Port' the device it allows you to select the trunk VLAN you want to allow.  The FI should then tag the traffic accordingly.

E.g.

interface Ethernet1/1

Description AF: UnifiedStorage

No server pinning sticky

pinning of pinning-down server drop down link

No cdp enable

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk vlan native 4049

switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,240,4048-4049

no downtime

Kind regards

Robert

    Simon,

It shouldn't be a problem with that.  Assuming the initators can achieve the goal of direct attach, you should be able to SAN start your blades.  I did not set it up myself, but in theory there should be nothing preventing it.

  • Storage circuits and dot1q FCoE

We have live from Netapp for the FIs storage configured as storage fcoe ports, the FIs are in mode switch CF. I see the netapp in FIs flogied so the CF part looks good. On the side of netapp, we have a 10 g interface, e1a, with an IP on this subject.  We have another interface of 10g, e1b, with VLAN attached to it for this interface sends and receives frames dot1q tag.

Documentation seems to imply that the ip traffic does not at all on an FCOE storage port.  Yet, e1a works very well is not the case of e1b.

Question 1: My theory is the plain ethernet on e1a works well but the dot1q tagging on e1b, is what actually does work on the FCOE storage port.  Am I wrong?

Question 2: I think to operate dot1q that I need to change to change the type of port FI FCOE destocking at the port of the unit.  Is it as simple as chaning the port enter through the UCS Manager?  Who takes the FCOE link offline or anything?

    Hi Tod,

Please make sure you have dot1q on Netapp and necessary FCoE VLAN are marked as native on FI and Netapp.

  • Access NAS storage of ESXi Server using VMKernel Port?

    Hello

I would like to know the best procedure to connect to the NAS storage of ESXi host 5. I am able to connect to the NAS storage according to the screenshots listed in the link below.

    http://www.tintri.com/blog/2011/11/connecting-vSphere-to-NFS-the-easy-way/

But, I saw different configurations in the past where port dedicated VMkernel is assigned to NAS and all storage goes into network 10 G. I try to do the same and created a VMkernel for NAS port. But I don't think that traffic is going over there as it is not used at all.

I gave the IP address of the ESXi server on the NAS box to get access. I couldn't give address IP VMkernel sideways NAS. How can I make use of this IP VMKernel dedicated NFS storage?

I want to implement the best way to pass NAS 10 G network traffic. In addition, How can I test if storage traffic crosses VMkernel port?

    Suggestions needed.

Virtualinfra is right that you must use a different subnet for NFS traffic. You masked the IP range, so I don't see what you use, but make sure that the vmkernel and storage using a single subnet, not the management subnet. If you get an error, your use of a subnet that goes out the default gateway of the management port, or that you are using the same subnet.

I wrote a few articles on the use of NFS with vSphere: http://wahlnetwork.com/2012/04/19/nfs-on-vsphere-a-few-misconceptions/

Also, make sure that the vmnic can route traffic on that subnet, as in the case of the use of VLANs.

  • 6200 FCoE in the direction of the North

I have a quick question that I have not been able to get a definitive right answer to (in literature)-regarding the new 6200 FI and FCoE in the direction of the North...

Anyway, my question: with the function UP on the 6200 (with UCS 2.0) - can we now do FCoE in the north direction (in this case a nexus 5548UP)? Or do we still need out in separate eth and FC rising?

I see of the configuration Guide, we can configure ports such as FCoE ports - and options for eth uplinks and CF uplinks are still there too. I was not able to determine if the FCoE port type can be used for uplink.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Daniel,.

    * You can always northbound FCoE connectivity of the UCS YEW which in your case, you can not uplink between 62xx FCoE and the 5548UP.

    * You must always have seprate FC rising and uplinks Eth.

    * The feature to have FCoE uplink will be available in a future release (on request at the end of the year).

    * the FCoE ports that you see are to use when you want to direct fix storage of FCoE for FI (limited support model).

    I hope this helps!

  • FCoE Multihop EMC VNX 5300 to Cisco UCS FI / Series Blade B

    Hi all

Having a performance problem with FCoE multihop of UCS.

    The presentation is as follows:

    UCS 5108 chassis--> 6248UP FI--> pair of N5k (5548)--> 10gig FCoE EMC VNX 5300 2 x 2 port card

Everything is functional - I can't ping from tissues to the pwwn EMC n5k cf.

I can see the paths in vmware on the vhbas everything is in place and active. The VMware is set to round robin and the side EMC ALUA 4.

I'm at a loss on how to solve it more. The SAN is connected to the fabric with om3 fiber LC + 10 GB SR SFP. UCS has a pair separated from fcoe port fabric channels k 5 down to YEW (the help of twinax cables). The data are separated on its OWN virtual machine. Essentially, I followed the guide from cisco on how to proceed:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/products/ps9670/products_configuration_example09186a0080c13e92.shtml

The hosts are not boot from SAN for now, they are started from storage USB flash on the blade.

The show on the 5ks flogi shows all connected, and as I said before, I can see the LUNS on the blades. When howerver I try uplod a file ISO DIS 2.5 GB in size in a data store takes about 2 ½ hours.

I have the most recent UC 2.1 (2) a firmware installed. The N5ks have NX - OS 6.x. The blades have ESXi 5.1 with the latest drivers enet and installed cisco fnic.

The default qos for n5k is configured.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Nick,

Interesting observation. We have an IP hsrp in catalyst 4500 as a router for network management with ip redirects on a reason any. I have disabled ip forwarding as well and currently I do 30K iops with fabric RR double active path and no error in the CPNI on esxi logs.

I'll have to do additional tests to see the weather, that it is a coincidence or a fix, by activating the ip redirects again. But it looks promising.

As my e/s load is done with the network management of e/s generator (http://labs.vmware.com/flings/io-analyzer) should have no effect on the routed network FCOE...  He latest even came to my mind to check network Ethernet side.

Thank you Nick for a great tip.

  • Types of ports FI

    Hi all

I need to know the definition and USAGE (when I use each port) and the protocol used foreach types of port FI

    1 - FC uplink port

    Storage 2 - FC port

3 - port of uplink of FCoE

    4 - storage port FCoE

    5 port device

    Thanks in advance

    AMR

    Hi Amr

    1 - FC uplink port

connects FI with native fibrechannel to a north bound switch FC (Brocade, MDS, N5k)

    Storage 2 - FC port

connects the FI fibrechannel native to a directly attached storage system

3 - port of uplink of FCoE

connects FI with native FCoE to a north bound FCoE switch (N7k, N5k)

    4 - storage port FCoE

connects the native FI FCoE l to a storage system directly attached

    5 port device

connects FI with a direct attached IP (iSCSI, NFS, CIFS) storage system

There is indeed a different port and then type "unified", by first creating an Ethernet connection on the same port uplink FCoE. This link will then transport you FCoE and IP traffic data.

  • USB port is powered but not working

    Hey guys,.

One of my usb ports decided to stop working properly, I am still able to use devices that ONLY require a power supply, one example being my external fan that works very well in this port.

However, I'm unable to use my mouse or any storage device in the port.

The lights (as appropriate) on the devices will be turn on as normal but will not do much than that.

I did not major changes since the last time that the port has been used successfully, it has just stopped working.

I rebooted several times and the problem persists.

All the other usb ports of normal work, no problem.

  • FCOE-basic questions

My understanding is that the traffic from the blades in the chassis or a rack of series C contains FCOE and Ethernet frames.

But what about the traffic of a UTA Netapp? Glancing at the NExus switch configuration, it seems that all the ports in use are Ethernet ports. then we configure the FCOE ports on the Ethernet ports for FCOE traffic top. Like this:

    interface vfc7
    link interface Ethernet1/7
    no downtime

    interface vfc8
    link interface Ethernet1/8
    no downtime

But what about traffic from UTA? It does not contain both types, and then only a single protocol to disappear on the port? Or what is happening here? I think I know a UTA 2 ports map can contain 2-port of FCOE and IP, IE. 4 ports altogether.

Someone has a document explaining the UTA and FCOE?

UTA will use FC IP addresses and at the same time that each port.  It's a similar logic to the way the N5K works for the last 5 years.

Yes, a Nexus 5 K port can understand two FCoE & Ethernet at the same time.  This is the basis for the Consolidation of IO with the nexus platform.  On the side of 5 K, all Ethernet traffic is received and changed accordingly.  For FCoE, packets are received, the package of FCoE is encapsulated off and pure CF payload within the FCoE package framework is then logically received on the VFC interface associated with the physical interface of N5K.  FC traffic is so forward as usual on the switch.

  • Can I configure some ports on FI-6200UP GEM as server ports?

    Hello

    I need your help!

I know that FI-6100 can't be configured its some port on GEM as the server ports.

Is it possible to configure ports on FI-6200UP GEM server ports?

And I wonder too, some ports(1/9-16) on a (Second) group of port can be configured as a server port(1/9-10) port(1/11-12) ethernet uplink, FCoE port(1/13-14) and FC port(1/15-16).

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

    Hello Paul,

Yes, you can configure the server ports on expansion on FI 6200 series modules.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/unified_computing/UCS/SW/GUI/config/Guide/2.1/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_1_chapter_0110.html#concept_A552AD7757A549FB82D16A07D0EDA1E4

    --------- snip ------------

All port types shown are configurable on both the module fixed and expansion, including the server ports that are not configurable on the fabric of the 6100 Series expansion module for interconnection, but can be configured on the fabric of the 6200 series expansion module interconnection.

  • Is a UPC (Unified Port Controller) of the FI 6200 supports multi protocol port simultaneously?

    Hello a good person.

Is a UPC (Unified Port Controller) of the FI 6200 supports multi protocol ports simultaneously?

For example, the second UPC has 1/9-16. Configure the ports like these? 1/9-10 for the server ports, 1/11-12 for the uplink ports, 1/13-14 for FCoE Uplink ports, 1/15 and 16 for the Uplink FC ports and so on. I know that Cisco Documents describe a port can be configured as server port, FC, FCoE... I "don't not interesting in these gross comments."

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

In UCS unified configuration of ports is controlled by a scroll bar, as shown here.

There is a fixed configuration for FI ports, then another to the expansion Module. FCoE and Ethernet ports are both type Ethernet from a unified point of view port, CF requires that you select the ports you want to be FC ports.

All ports to the left of the slider bar will be Ethernet, which can also be configured for FCoE, and everything to the right will be CF.  So to answer your specific scenario above Yes. BUT with a caveat.

If you have moved the cursor between port 14 and 15 then left would be Ethernet can be configured as a Server Port, Port Uplink or FCoE port and ports 15 and 16 could be configured as FC ports.  BUT the downside would be that ports 17-32 would also be FC ports and you couldn't get to the Ethernet ports later.  If the port configuration is adjacent to ports on fixed ports, as well as on the extension module.

Best practice is to determine how many FC ports you need and configure each component accordingly.

Here are some details on the guidelines for the unified configuration of Ports.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/unified_computing/UCS/SW/GUI/config/Guide/2.0/b_UCSM_GUI_Configuration_Guide_2_0_chapter_0101.html#concept_0249934662D1439AA5E926A503AC8B4B

  • Adding ports to a vlan on interconnection of fabric (end-host Mode)

    Hi all

I have a problem, I have created vlan 99 and added the ports and port channels to the vlan on the fabric of the ucs interconnections and saved the configs.

To my surprise, that nothing has changed, they are still on the vlan 1 (the default).

    See my setup below.

    UCS - A eth-link # rising scope
    UCS - Has/eth-uplink # create vlan EMM_NET 99
    UCS - Has/eth-storage / vlan * # create member-port has 15 1
    UCS - Has/eth-storage / vlan * # create member-port a 16 1
    UCS - Has/eth-storage / vlan * # create portchannel members a 61
    UCS - Has/eth-uplink / vlan * # set no sharing
    UCS - Has/eth-uplink / vlan * # commit buffer
    UCS - Has / eth-uplink/vlan #.

Or should I just create vlan 99 on the switch to the North (Nexus5548UP) because the fabric of interconnection is in fine host mode?

    Kind regards

OK, now you must give us more detailed information?

    What is your OS? ESXi?

And maybe, depending on how your host is configured, you should make 99 Vlan as vlan native!

  • "The SP failover is not supported. Single SP port failover is supported", that means

In the compatibility list VMware ESXi 4.x or promise VessRAID SAN iSCSI has a note: 'the SP failover is not supported. SP port failover is supported only"means MS obviously storage path', however I am not sure what is meant by this note, since everything I can find when searching for documents of VMware for"port failover"is a reference to HBA that hide the failover of the VMware kernel, which is not a property of the target iSCSI SAN or VMware aside initiator parameters.

That means this note, what settings VMware cannot be used and what are those who can.  Promise of support is often useless, so asking them is not likely to get a direct answer.

Maybe the promise VessRAID iSCSI SAN has only a processor unique storage (SP) with several ports storage/controller?

When you look at their website, it seems that the c-series is single controller only... So obviously it is not able to switch to another storage processor if the primary fails...
