  • old macBook 6.1 can operate to Yosemite?

    Hello everyone,

I have a fairly old MacBook (see below) with the OS running. X 10.6.8. Safari and Chrome, I heard will take not longer support the real system after April 2016.  So here's my questioned:

    (1) is it true that Safari and Chrome will stop to support? And if so,.

    (2) Yosemite works on such an old book?

    (3) what can I do to update the pc and how? I tried to download, but never got into it completely so I guess that Yosemite is too large to work on

Hello and welcome to the communities of Apple Support:

The Yosemite OS X 10.10 is no longer available for download from

the Mac App Store; the new version of the OS X it is El Capitan 10.11.

{All downloads offered online would be suspect at this stage whether

    you wanted to Yosemite. Other downloads should not be used for software;

Softonic questionable third-party and other odd sites; Avoid bittorents}.

While El Capitan should run in your older MacBook 13 inch late 2009

properly, it may seem slower than Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with 4 GB

RAM and what storage capacity of rotating hard drive size exists.

The old applications may require an upgrade to most recent version

If you have third-party applications or utilities. Other than web browsers

There is an urgent need to get a whole new OS X system now?

(You also need to know the replacement for iPhoto, is photo.) It's a

bit different and has various changes more elderly iPhotos. For some

This was a problem. Also the support for older iDevices may not go

Well well with latest OS X on a Mac, if the old iPod, etc. cannot execute a

The Firefox browser is favourable to OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

Safari has not been improved for years for Snow Leopard. Cannot

say about Chrome; It would probably be a brake on system resources

Not much. The purchase of Mountain Lion would be about $20. USD.

  • Updates and the old MacBook

I have 2 older Macbooks and love them both 17 inches.  I have been informed by Apple, do not update beyond Mt. Lion. Now that we are 2 updates beyond mount Lion I wonder what this will mean for my old machines.  They will stop working?  How far behind can you be and always stay so to speak?  I know these are vague questions, but I'm looking for general information on what is their life expectancy, if that makes sense.  I thought to another, but the screens are so small, they look like phones.

How far behind can you be and always stay so to speak?

You can continue to use computers without having to install a new OS. You can have problems with apps like Safari software. For example, that the change of the Internet needs, without an update using Safari Safari can begin to experience problems when you use the Internet. You can use an alternative program such as Firefox, which is always being updated.

Apple provided a reason why you should not update?

One solution is to create a new partition (~ 30-50 GB), install the new OS, and 'test' it. Otherwise as/like it, you can then remove the partition. Make a backup before doing anything. By doing this, if you don't like it you don't go well the recovery process.

  • Where the pictures after the restoration of Macbook Air?

I just bought a new Macbook Pro for me and gave my older Macbook Air to my partner.

I followed all the instructions on the restoration of the Macbook Air to the factory setting and reinstalling the operating system.

Does everything well, except that I am surprised that there is no iPhoto / Photos icon present on the MacBook Air.

I am certainly not an expert in the field and would appreciate some advice.

What I have to buy this new from Apple to put on MacBook Air from my partner, or is there something that I did wrong?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • MacBook Pro glued on the filled during boot loading bar

My MacBook Pro (end of 2011; El Capitan 10.11.5) is recently become insensitive at the point of being unusable, so I decided to do a clean install, since I had to do one for a while anyway. Once I reinstalled El Capitan, I took my SSD (Samsung 840 EVO; 500 GB) out of the enclosure and put it back in my MacBook Pro, but it wouldn't boot. As a first step, it loaded so slowly that I decided to reset the NVRAM, who ends up helping just a little. The loading bar fills now halfway to the top with the usual speed, but after that, it takes a few minutes to complete. And once it is full, nothing happens. He remains on the Apple logo and the bar filled little matter how long wait.

I also put the 500 GB SSD with the clean install in an another MacBook (Late 2008) and it works fine, so the problem must be related to hardware, I just can't determine what exactly. I tried to do an AHT, but basic and extended trials got stuck shortly after and gave me no result. I had trouble with the kernel panics, so I suspect that something may be wrong with my RAM, as I exchanged the 4 GB to 16 GB just now. But before you go out and spend money on the new RAM, I wanted to know if maybe someone runs into this behavior before and knows exactly what's going on or if not how I understand what is wrong.

Almost all of the kernel panic seemed to happen every time I was using Photoshop or video in Safari streaming. I'll post an old report of kernel panic, but a problem with Time Machine has led to the removal of all my past, with the exception of the most recent backups. I hope someone can help me find another way to understand what is wrong.

Update: I just tried it on an other SSD (same model, 250 GB) which has been working well in my older MacBook and this time I get an error message as soon as the loading bar starts to fill to the top. It remains for a few seconds, then the MacBook stops and starts again; This continues in an endless loop. I have attached a picture below.

I really don't know how exactly to interpret this, but this looks like a kernel panic for me. What is my RAM after all? I appreciate any comment on that.

Connect the SSD to the external MBP via USB and see if it will start the MBP.  If so, the internal SATA cable is suspect.

If you can get the MBP to start, then you can start to deal with panics of the kernel:

You try boot in safe boot mode? SHIFT key is pressed after chime

to provide your admin user password to continue in safe mode.

May have removed the essential parts of the system while it was trying to

delete the troublesome app; Thus it is likely a reinstall of the OS X.

In addition to the troubleshooting & using Find to locate all parts of this application

who could survive, could be performed. Also, you might try it and see that the
Console logs suggest, according to the exact time/Date of broadcast. --

You might see if Disk Utility could repair permissions on the hard drive. This

is different from that of an attempt to repair the hard drive.

You may need to start the computer from the DVD Snow Leopard system to

see if you can then use disk utility in the options menu of the installer, then

See If you can repair the hard disk using this version of disk utility.

Otherwise, you need to maybe reinstall from DVD and then upgrade the system to 10.6.8

This shouldn't erase your user account. However, applications that are

in your user account that might have been part of this problem, can be activated.

Applications from websites can be problematic. Some of them may contain odd

bad software tips; According to the reputation of the source, adware, malware or elements

No wanted or expected can upload with results very unexpected.

It may be better methods to solve problems or solve this problem. To find out what

current may require looking at the system logs, among other things.

The application did not have an uninstall program? If you provide your user password

during installation, it may request a detailed correct uninstall in order to not

damage to the other sections of the system. The applications folder is a place to look, if included.

    Good luck!

I have an old white Macbook machine (it has 10.5.8 on it). I want to download Lion, so I can install it on this computer. App store is not accessible on 10.5.8, otherwise it wouldn't be a problem.

I connect in app store on my macbook pro, which has installed El Capitan. I see the download for my purchased Lion Installer button. I clicked and I get "the this version of Mac OS X 10.7 cannot be installed on this computer.

How do I download the installer of Lion so I can go in my macbook and install it on this machine? What are my options here?  Appreciate the guidance.

    John

You must either install Snow Leopard on the MacBook and upgrade, or go to a Lion-compatible Mac, download the installer it and either use drive mode target to perform the installation or create a license key from it.

Jump Snow Leopard will probably require that the internal drive of the MacBook be repartitioned or deleted.
