support for VMware workstation 7

Hello

I looked on the website and to the best of my understanding VmWare Workstation 7 EOL.

http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/support/product-lifecycle-matrix.PDF

Hereby, I understand that there will be no more support for VmWare and forums are essentially the only resource that I can rely on.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Thank you.

This seems to be in line with the policy of support for this product:

«VMware will offer 2 years in favour of the general availability of a new major version in the support and subscription

  • Assign 1 NIC purely for VMWare Workstation

    Hi all

I recently gave me a Z1 HP Workstation PC for my office.

It is an integrated wireless and wired connections.

What I would do, is use the wireless purely for VMware workstation 7 and connect it to our test card WLAN to provide connectivity to the outside (for the windows updates, etc.).

Then use the wired connection, to connect to the domain network.

Anyone know if this is possible? I can't find much info about him.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Good then you have to try to work around the problem.

The host WiFi network adapter, let all IP6 verified but protocols and then manually set the IP4 address to a 169.254.x.x address while retaining the good mask subnet, default gateway, and DNS for the LAN router.  It comes in a way that is known to work however, it is still dependent on how the wifi adapter and the WiFi router manages normal communications.  If it works, what it does is to allow the virtual machine is to use the VMware bridge Protocol but the 169.254.x.x address stops the host itself to use.  Other normal settings for good subnet mask, default gateway and DNS servers for the LAN router has been know to turn on the bypass, which will take place on a WiFi network card and or WiFi routers.  In some cases, make what you want may have to be done via wired Ethernet, if a WiFi solution cannot be implemented.

If it does not we know as there may be other things to try with the WiFi before you have to implement a wired Ethernet solution.

  • Red Hat GFS is supported for VMware?

I was not able to find a definitive answer about this, then take the community to see if I'm right:

Red Hat and VMware does support Red Hat Linux computers virtual running GFS? We have a set a production level Wordpress blog servers running RHEL 5 64-bit using physical storage shared RDM (100 GB) and when these virtual machines are under heavy load the GFS volume freaks out and drop-outs. We need to power cycle the VMs (pull on the plug) and start them upward for GFS rerun.

I was not able to find that our facility is even supported even though it works technically. Anyone know? No official word from Red Hat or VMware on it?

    Thank you.

The only grouping support supported by VMware is MSCS.

  • Capture the statistical support for VMware Cluster

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my question.  In the near future I will have a cluster vmware small I need to generate reports of use of resources on.  I saw a tool called queryperf which seems to provide for all my needs and then some, but I'm not sure how get or use this tool.

I normally just jump on an esx host and try the command to see if I have it but I'm traveling at the moment and do not have access to one.

To wrap this up, I'm very keen to learn the following:

    How no one acquires queryperf?

Where the tool lauched from?  (by this I mean: guest operating system, command-line esx host, ect)

How to run on a cluster vm instead of a single server/client integer.

Thank you for reading my post and I thank you for your help.

I'm not aware of a tool called queryPerf, but there is a VI API method called queryPerf() that allows you to query the performance data of your vCenter/ESX (i) /VM (s) http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/vc-sdk/visdk25pubs/ReferenceGuide/vim.PerformanceManager.html#queryStats

A great place to start to look for some samples or past issues/scripts/utilities that could be used to question the different associated performance stats is the VI API forums: http://communities.vmware.com/community/developer/managementapi?start=0

There are also a few utilities preset that you can watch, onethat may be of interest is the viperformance.pl which is part of the VI Perl Toolkit Utilities http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl15/doc/perl_toolkit_utilities_idx.html

Also, here is a collection of news and recent documentation concerning the performance collection/analysis using VI SDK/API: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9840

Recently, VMware has started a new podcast for developers called the Coffee Talk where various topics concerning VI SDK/API/scripting/etc will be covered and the first two were related to the new vSphere SDK but she also had a lot of good practices on the collection of performance data that relate to the current VI 3.5 and coming vSphere 4.0 that you might find useful : http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9912

You will be able to use the queryPerf() call in various set of programming languages (Perl, c#, .NET, PowerShell, etc) who can communicate with the VI SDK via the SOAP API. Depending on the platform and what type of data you want to collect, this should help you get started.

  • Support for VMWare VT on HP Pavilion HPE h8xt

I just bought a new HP Pavilion HPE h8xt and want to use VMware player to create a virtual using Windows 7 64-bit computer.  When I tried to do, VMware has informed me that I had to enable VT in the BIOS.  I restarted the machine and press F1 and F10 and have a 2.10.1206 interface of American Megatrends, who informed me that THE system BIOS has been CHG_705.ROM v7.05.  Anyway, I can't find any associated BIOS Setup option.

The processor is an i7 2600, which is quite common.  This processor supports VT?  I just need to load a new BIOS?

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Trailway,

You should be able to boot into the bios and look for VT usually, it is disabled by default. You might find that it listed on the tab of the System Configuration.

Run this program.    Test for 64-bit hardware  She say on the hardware virtualization?  Yes or no?

Another test would be to download and use PC Wizard. Click processor under the hardware then scroll to virtualization. It should indicate Yes and if it is enabled or disabled.

What is the number of exact product for your PC?

I do not have the Intel i7 - 2600 k but my bios is different from the bios of your PC.

  • Support for VMware ESXi 5 MPLS

I'm curious to know if the virtual switch can provide that some MPLS support so that can be unloaded from the VM? At present the virtual switch looks like a switch single layer2. Is it possible to get more features in Vsphere Enterprise?

He basis of VMware, but not rack mounting.  It works just like a virtual machine on each ESXi host.

You need to ask cisco for the licensing costs.

  • Host kernel taken Linux supported for vmware Server 2?

VMware is advertising that VMware server can be installed in 64 bit, Linux, but that's not true. I can't install it in one of my 64-bit Linux host. Only legacy distributions are supported. I use openSuse 11.2 64 bit or Ubuntu 9.10.

Is it true that VMware is NOT recent Linux kernels of Pentecost compatible 2.6.3x? Only legacy host kernels Linux is supported?

When this catastrophic situation will be fixed in the new version of Pentecost?

None of the patches to install VMserver or workstation on more recent than AFAIK 2.6.26 kernels are officially released by VMware.

If you really think that you need a core of bleeding edge, you must use these patches not supported.

  • How to set an MTU of 1600 for test Lab at home for the NSX on Vmware workstation

    Hello.

I'll set up a laboratory at home to build a laboratory to the NSX. I am running 3 on VMware Workstation 11 Esxi hosts. All three hosts of esxi run each 4 Ethernet adapters on them.

To configure installation VXlan for my lab at home, I have modified the virtual machine's .vmx file and changed the vmxnet3 device and it works.

    Ethernet1. ConnectionType = "custom".

    Ethernet1.virtualDev = "e1000".

    Ethernet1.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".

    Ethernet1. AddressType = 'generated '.

    ethernet2. Present = 'TRUE '.

    ethernet2.VNET = "VMnet1.

    ethernet2. ConnectionType = "custom".

    ethernet2.virtualDev = "vmxnet3" - change to vmxnet3

Adapter type VMxnet3 only is not supported for VMware workstation and also one of my hosts broke down several times with the low error message in the log file.

Can someone guide me how to set up a lab NSX on VMware workstation and use 1600 MTU for VXlan traffic. Any help is very appreciated.

    Hi all

I managed to solve this problem by separating the storage traffic to a different vswitch and the traffic to a different VDS NSX.

  • Question for staff: VMWare Workstation 7: end of life?

Can any of the VMWare team please clarify the situation concerning VMWare Workstation 7. My security software said 7 Workstation is end of life, and it won't pass me with rating of 100% because of this. Is there still some security fixes and stability issued for VMWare Workstation 7? What is the date of end for security patches support?

I do not see where it is noted the end of Support (EOS) for VMWare Workstation 7.

It does not separately, because it is not already EOS.

  • VMware converter 4 support for partitions on dynamic disks

I currently have a server physical windows 2003 which has its system and data partitions defined as dynamic disks (C and D partitions lie on disk 0-dynamic) not well why it's set up this way, it was built just like that.

The goal is to convert this virtual server and I read many forums stating that dynamic disks are not supported for vmware converter, but some cases have succeeded where the target score was a record time-basic-but-now-dynamics.

Is this the case? and if so, what alternatives can be tried to virtualize the server.

Dynamic disks are supported for Windows.  The resulting virtual machine will only basic disks in a hot clone.

I would just suggest that you make a clone of hot regular and do a slight reduction in the size of the disc resulting (even if it is 1 MB).

Second, ensure that the system starts out of the c:\ partition and it is marked as a partition active and has a file boot.ini in the root.
