Swtich v dedicated for vMotion stop Websense?

Hi all

I have a 3 host ESX 2.5 U3 Cluster, with 6 NIC in each host (2 for LAN, 2 for iSCSI and 2 for vMotion, all in a team of FT).

I had to build a new guest VM for Websense web filter. As the webfilter must be able to port your firewall connection mirror I removed one of the NIC in my team of vMotion and created a vSwitch dedicated for the virtual machine to allow me to use any of the physical NETWORK adapter for port mirroring, the vSwitch is also in promiscous mode to allow the webfilter to see network traffic. All other vSwitches have promiscous mode off.

Since removing this NIC HA is unable to Vmotion to or from this host? I can still vMotion between 2 other guests? When attempting to migrate, it gets to 10% and expires? Is it because I have a vSwitch set to promiscous mode? This fine all worked until I created this new vSwitch.

Thank you

No all the ESX host in a cluster must be exactly the same set up on all the

    Hello

I have an equallogic SAN on a host of vSphere. The connection is set up as follows:

    -iSCSI4

    -iSCSI3

    **************************

The iSCSI1... 4 VMK are each and every one is related to a NETWORK card (either 4 or 5). If I can activate only vmotion on a VMK, how to make redundancy?

I guess that NIC dedicated for vmotion is an option (?), but that seems to be an ineffective approach...

    Hello Gheywood,

In fact, devoting two cards (team) network for Vmotion redundancy is the best choice if possible. If you can't do that, then you should not put your VMotion traffic on the same NIC team as your iSCSI traffic. You have dedicated network cards / network (physically separated if possible) for iSCSI.

If you combine a group of ports VMotion with another group of ports, the Service Console (or in the case of ESXi management network) is usually a good choice.

Unless you use convergent network (CNAs) and 10 GbE adapters, this isn't uncommmon to see 10 NICs in an ESX host using the IP storage. I hope this helps.

Don't forget to mark this "correct" answer or 'useful', if you found it useful (you'll also points).

  • The vlan vmotion should join him vlan management for vmotion work?

    Host 1

Management network is a vswitch. IP VLAN 350 172.31.250.201

vMotion network is on an another vswitch. VLAN 500 IP 192.168.1.1

vMotion network is on an another vswitch. VLAN 500 IP 192.168.1.2

Running Cisco UCS, the vNIC for vmotion are the vlan 500 but vmotion works only when they have access to the vlan 350 the management vlan.

Sorry for the question noob but not vmotion need access to the vlan management in order to work?

    Thank you

No, what you're doing - vMotion running in a dedicated subnet - is actually recommended to do this. Ensure that the UCS switch ports are configured correctly, allowing the VLANS required.

  • As part of the SAR cert is to have a NW separated between ESXi host required for VMotion or is it OK to use IP for VMotion management, in the execution of Certification tests.

As part of the SAR cert is "have a NW/dedicated separate between hosts ESXi (on which we GOS) mandatory for VMotion or is - OK to use IP for VMotion management in the execution of Certification tests.»

Note that the verification passed Test when you use management IP for Vmotion and without a dedicated connection to NW between ESXi hosts.

Separate dedicated network interface cards preferred. No problem with the test after this change case.

  • Recently upgraded to El Capitan, I had that problem for Mail stop unexpectedly when I saw some posts.  I followed the steps and was able to remove the trouble messages.   Now I can't restore the mail window message viewer component.

Recently upgraded to El Capitan, I had that problem for Mail stop unexpectedly when I saw some posts.  I followed the steps and was able to remove the trouble messages.   Now I can't restore the mail window message viewer component.  When I try to catch the separator bar to go back to the left, only half of the small arrow icon and line appears, and it cannot be moved.   Can open the message by double clicking a message viewer.

    Hi there, alicefrompa!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. From your post, I understand that you do not see the Message Viewer box which allows you to read your e-mails; only see you the Inbox that includes a brief overview of the message and are unable to restore access using the separator bars. I have had this happen to my own Mail app and am happy to let you know how I could fix!

You are really on the right track - you want to roll your mouse over the divider between the Inbox and sections Message Viewer (which should now be on the extreme right edge of your mail window) and drag it to the left.  When you click on the receipt/Message Viewer box, the cursor turns into a line continuous black with a single arrow pointing to the left. When you see the cursor change, click with the left button of the mouse and (while holding down the mouse button in) drag the combination line / arrow to the left. You may need to drag a little further than before to get it. I had to hang mine almost completely in the middle of my Mail app before the display of the message box appeared.

From there, you should be able to adjust the boxes to your widths you want as expected.

If you are still not able to get the display of the messages visible after have try this, here are a few more things that you can do.

    1. Press command + O on your keyboard.
    2. Exit the Mail application, and then press on and hold the SHIFT key on your keyboard while reopening.
    3. Restart your Mac by selecting the menu  Apple in the upper right of your screen restart from the menu drop down.

    See you soon!

  • External hardrive dedicated for backups or huge 3 teg hardrive

I have two Macs. The two are not up-to-date on the operating system. One is a former PPC-Intel Power Mac G5 (running 10.4.8). This PPC has logic music software from apple and other software, that I like to keep the versions they all. I want to back up the entire hard drive please. Never done and need to know how?

The iMac I see a time machine... .the iMac running 10.6.8 and it seems pretty simple how to backup.

My question contains the questions above for backup but also do I need a hard disk dedicated for each backup of the computer, or can I partition a huge hard drive.

Also, so just save a computer for example do I need a dedicated external hardrive or can I use a space between an external hardrive with enough space for a backup.

I know that this issue contains various aspects of a question and different computers and versions so I appreciate the answers really. Thank you very much!

Every Mac should have at least 1 backup HD dedicated. When it comes to backup, it is wise to also have redundant backups because too backups fail! I have 3 Mac (iMac, Mac Mini & MacBook Air), each has 2 HD attached for redundant backups. Although I know that it is more expensive that you wanted to hear, it gives a pretty good backup level. It would be extremely rare to lose the primary storage and two backups, but I lost the primary and a backup at least 2 times!

In my case, I use Time Machine and SuperDuper as my backup solutions and also to use OWC (www.macsales.com) as my EHD.

  • How to use 1-channel analog input for start/stop aquire sample second channel input analog?

I have a little problem. I've just been programming in labview for 2 weeks.

I'm trying to figure out how to use my channel of analog input on the USB-6009 case for start/stop (reference trigger and start) presented to the second analog input channel samples.

I need the first analog input string to operate continuously and control sampling on the second.  When the second channel will start sampling program brings a new graph each time and saves it (I have all this that figure out).

How can I configure the trigger so the lance program presented in for the second channel when the 1 channel reached above 2V (e.g.) and stop when it falls below 2V.

I use a pressure force sensor on the first channel that gives me straight (up to) 5 V when it is pressed and nothing when it is not...

    Thank you.

    Grand... Thanks for the information!

But can't I then make a 1 channel instead and wait until that meat of the max element value?

Mulitple-NIC or CASL (LAG and Active Mode) for VMotion?

It's actually the answer to your question "Mulitple-NIC or CASL (LAG and Active Mode) for VMotion?", i.e. to use Multi-NIC vMotion rather than LACP.

  • VCenter dedicated for VDI

    This runs the discussions.

Always recommended for some vCenters dedicated for VDI?  Have a client who did a major update to their environment vSphere.  The Service Bureau VDI group vCenters dedicated to run environments around the world.  VMware Eng team is on the fence.  I think its due to some vCenters more in the technical requirements of the vs environment or best practices.  Licensing is not a problem.

It would be a vCenter 5.5 environment.

Wanted to get the thoughts here.

    Thank you

    Boston Tech Guy

As a general design principle I have separate vCenters for each VDI Desktop Pod.

  • Question about the collection of NETWORK adapters for vMotion / VM vSwitch

    Hello

We use vSphere Enterprise Edition 5.1.

We also create separate vSwitch for management / vMotion and VM.

Each vSwitch receives 2 network cards connected to the different switch for redundancy.

We would like to know is necessary to provide the collection of NETWORK adapters for these vSwitches?  Currently, only enable us NIC Teaming for VM vSwitch only.

    Thank you

VSwitch vMotion, we have 2 assigned NIC (nic2 and nic6) with 10 VLANS.  NIC2 and nic6 are connected to 2 different physical switches.

    Should I choose

    (1) both are active

    (2) both are assets + grouping of NETWORK cards?

Question - if there is only 1 VLAN, it seems that NIC Teaming is also not very useful unless we use 2 VLAN (Multi-NIC vMotion).  Is this right?

If you use Multi-NIC vMotion, there is no need to have two different VLANS, all you need is depending on configuration

on your vMotion switch, please create two vmkernel port for vMotion with the same VLAN ID, but the grouping of NETWORK cards as below

    vMotion_1 - VLAN ID: 10

    Grouping of NETWORK cards

    vmnic2 - active

    vmnic6 - watch

    vMotion_2 - VLAN ID: 10

    vmnic6 - active

    vmnic2 - watch

  • Configuration of VLAN for vMotion (ESXi 5.1 update 3)

    Hello

We use a cluster of ESXi 5.1 updated 3 guests with Enterprise Edition.

Finally, our network is being upgraded and VLAN will be created for vMotion.  Currently, we use the local network for the management and vMotion (I know that's not good).

Network administrator asks me to provide information concerning the requirement of the VLAN for vMotion.

Is there any Document KB I can refer to mentioning that the administrator must put in place in the physical switch and I need to change in each vSwitch for vMotion on all ESXi hosts?

    Thank you

Belong to your network administrator if it can link your vmotion IP to the same vlan that he will provide den it's possible.

Otherwise, you will have to go to the configuration of your network administrator. so it can provide you the IP for the ports of vmotion.

  • The best editor for lego stop motion?

I wonder if once the effects or first pro is the best for lego stop motion. I know the first is intended to compose a film/video, but stop motion is essentially just images (and sometimes video) do you think I can use AfterEffects for effects and video composition? Or should I buy both. Remember that stop motion is different from a video or film. There a few video clips and many photos. Any advice? I can only buy one.

A film is edited together into a NLE such as Premiere Pro, and then effects are added in software like After Effects compositing.

You'll cut your punches together in first, then AE allows to make the special effects shots.

You can do some basic masking in first, so that you do not even have AE.

  • Minimum required permissions for vMotion

    Hi guys

    Environment: Vmware 5.5

I need to set permissions to a user for quick vMotioning of VMs (a cluster 8 hosts).

I found the minimum permissions for Storage vMotion, but not for vMotion specifically that I need

any idea which must be check in the role of letting this user vMotion VMs?

    Thank you very much

    AFAIK, you must activate

    Query vMotion

Migrate powered off the power of the virtual machine (formerly move)

    Migrate powered on virtual machine

Resources thr. This should suffice for vMotion. Try these permissions and see if it meets your requirement.

  • Storage for Vmotion issues

Currently, I have two hosts running ESX 5.1 and is looking to add a third. I have VCenter Server is also installed. I don't have a VMotion configuration but want to plan for it. My two hosts currently have a SATA 2x1To in them running raid 1 + 0.

Research on the forums I think I know that I would need a separate storage with iSCSI or FC eith server for VMotion to work. Is this correct? I would not be able to use my storage on my hosts to store my VM?

I read on a few software solutions as the VSA unit, but I did not understand if it would allow me to use my SATA drives on my host. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

You can also store your VM on NFS (we use only).

-one of the main requirements prior to 5.1 with VMotion was a shared storage (whether indeed iSCSI, NFS, or SAN) - it is now possible to local storage on a host vmotion to another storage room hosts - http://www.vmware.com/products/datacenter-virtualization/vsphere/vmotion.html

    Instructions

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/09/05/VMotion-enhancement-vSphere-5-1/

You can store your VM alternately on a local storage as well with no problems.
