T400 became a brick after bios update

Update ThinkVantage told me that I had a bios update to do, last night, I started & went to bed. Full battery, plugged in, etc.

This morning, I went down to my home office and attempted to 'wake up' the laptop, it was totally insensitive. Since he was about 8 1/2 hours to do the upgrade, I unplugged and jumped the battery to reset. When I went to restart, I got 3 beeps (1 long and 2 short).

BRICK!

Warranty expired last October (could not extend), now Lenovo tells me that I have to pay for the repair, could be up to $500 for a problem caused by the update of Lenovo.

I read a post where you can put the CD bootable on a USB key & reflash the bios image, but maybe the USB is not bootable because I understand not anywhere with this method.

Someone at - it ideas? I did the thing the cmos battery, but who did nothing else but a chance to blow the dust off the DIMMs.

Any constructive help appreciated. Thank you

I was contacted by Lenovo, and they're going to do a repair for my device.

  • T61p brick after BIOS update

    Hi all.

This morning, I thought I would upgrade the BIOS on my T61p (6458-AT8), as the Manager of Maintanance ThinkVantage suggested.

(http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=6458AT8, upgraded w. HD 500 GB and 4 GB of RAM).

After the restart, the fan went to just max showing start of Lenovo logo.
After 15 minutes like that, I pulled the plug and the battery.

Now, I have a really expensive brick... By pressing the power button has no effect.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this?

    Thank you

Read on for a brief history of good service:

The technician showed up this afternoon with a table cover, a new Board of Directors, a couple of screwdrivers and a USB floppy drive.

    1 disassemble the laptop
2 seem surprised by two non - Lenovo DIMM (I had the Lenovo one original and he tried to start it with a mounted instead, of course no change)
    3. change the Board of Directors
    3. assemble the laptop
    4. wouldn't start
    5. Remove again
    6. fix the CPU tray-thingy
    7 go up
    8 boot
9 set the time in the BIOS
10 boot from albums secret IBM/Lenovo diskette
    11. set edge serial No.
    12 reboot
    13 fact

He noticed that my LCD hinges were wobbly (it is like 3 cm... what I know already of course, but didn't know how to get fixed) and suggested I called support and had them send a technician to fix it.

I called them after his departure. It is not usually something that is covered by the warranty, unless it's a whole new machine. I told him that it was like that from the first day (it was!) and that I keep in the dock, most of the time, is certainly not carried. He agreed and they send a guy tomorrow!

I'm very happy with the service they provide - and hope that I won't need it again!

  • Unknown device on the Satellite A100-153, after BIOS update to 5.1

    ACPI\TOS1901 * TOS1901<--- this="" is="" the="" unknown="" device="" after="" bios="" update="" to="" 5.10="" on="" my="" satellite="" a100-153="">

Vista now shows it in as unknown device manager; the TOS1900 showed up too, but after installation of Toshiba Value Pack for Vista, it went.

    Help, please. WHICH IS: ACPI\TOS1901 * TOS1901

    Hello

ACPI-> Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
ACPI defines hardware and software interfaces that allow focus on the OS configuration and power management to enumerate and configure motherboard devices.
For example: ACPI is necessary for the standby and hibernation mode.

Now your question; the new BIOS has been updated and configured to using VISTA.
It seems that VISTA was not compatible with the previous version of BIOS because the ACPI interface. Now you can install Vista on the laptop, but it seems that you need a driver. Possibly new chipset driver version might help. But as you probably know, the drivers are not available at this time. Unfortunately

  • Brick machine after BIOS update

Here is a method that has worked for save a laptop HDX18 running an Insyde BIOS.

Download the latest BIOS for this model.

    FTP://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp51501-52000/sp51618.exe

Save it on the desktop and use 7-Zip to "extract the files, when you open it you will find a file with the name of 3610F34.fd.

Rename this file to 3610.BIN (I used the capitols)

Enter a USB flash drive 2 GB or smaller and it must automatically be formatted in FAT32, when it's done copy and paste your BIOS file, newly appointed to the flash drive, safely eject the drive on your computer. (not just pull the USB port)

    On my HDX18 Bricked.

Remove the battery and the adapter and hold down the button for 30 seconds to do a hard reset.

Plug the flash drive into one of the ports USB left , hold the 'Windows' + 'B' key and hold your it plug the adapter.

Start the laptop should begin to beep and read the flash drive, release the keys when and finished the laptop turns off. Let stand for 3 minutes and Windows.

This method has done does not on my dv8, or done a job here for mrtranmsb:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-systems-and/please-help-recovery-BIOS-HP-DV4-1326TX/...

I had my dv8 two choices to replace the system board or replace the BIOS with a pre-programmed one chip.

In my case, I was certain that it was a bad BIOS update because the machine was in perfect health before the flash.

I decided to replace the chip, and 'My Tech' was most useful in the identification of the chip of the BIOS as well as Note Book Review. I bought the chip of 'My Tech'

Here is my thread as to where the BIOS chip is located on the dv8 (they're all the same)

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While all mean, this means that if your laptop is out of warranty , there not a lot of options to fix things.

Most of the people do not have the skill that it takes to resolder a BIOS chip on the motherboard, and in this case, a replacement motherboard is the only alternative.

    OR

If you have all your hard drive partitions in tact (the key is the HP tools partition), you may be able to save the BIOS of this partition by organizing the 'Windows' + 'B' key down to start. This works as with the factory original OS installation, you don't have not changed or added to partitions and if your machine is more recent then 2010.

Before you try everything before, make sure that it is in fact a corrupted BIOS problem.

Also note that this thread is only dealing with an Insyde BIOS, not Phoenix or any other.

  • Notebook G71 won to boot after BIOS update on HP site

I just updated the BIOS on my notebook G71... I downloaded the update from the HP site and it has been updated V20 to V23.

After the update, the system became an automatic restart and now it does not move before the initial startup screen that shows HP and "ESC to return to the Start Menu" logo at the bottom. I tried the ESC key, but nothing past then is except that it says "esc... pause start." Nothing anyway. Now I can't reboot my system and it is dead. Help, please. Steve

Unplug the power cord, remove the battery, hold the power button for a total of 30 seconds, connect AC only, see if it will load windows now.

  • Satellite Pro P200-15W: after Bios Update 1.90 incredibly noisy fan

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-15W, I recently made an update to BIOS version 1.9 and seems to have been a big mistake.
After restarting the computer, I had a lot of software deconfig and the fan has become incredibly noisy.

I have the problem with the Toshiba Vista registration software, I get this message: "registration of Vista has stopped working". I read other discussions, I don't want to just disable it in the start.ini file, I would actually solve the problem if there is a way.

Is there a way to change the configuration of fans? I read a post from Toshiba on another model of laptop that has had the same problem of noisy fans after an update of the BIOS, they gave that a solution with a new version of the BIOS, is there a way to reverse the BIOS to the previous version? (recovery CD will be useful for this purpose)?

    See you soon

    Edgard

    Hello

It seems that the picture of the fan was changed and renewed in the new version of BIOS, and so fans run fall.
Why the table fan has been changed?

Well, usually something like this is necessary to improve the reduction of the internal temperature while the CPU and GPU are running with maximum performance.
This helps to prevent the equipment from damage!

Usually, the recovery CD formats the whole HARD drive (partitions too) and installs only the image of Toshiba on the notebooks of HARD drive.
The image contains the OS, drivers and additional software and has nothing to do with the BIOS update.
But you can try to recover the laptop to see if you can solve the problems of software as "Vista record"!

If you want to reverse the BIOS, you will need to contact the ASP in your country!

Sorry, but all I can suggest.

    Best regards

  • Satellite L750 - Bluetooth does not work after BIOS update

I am preparing some L750 notebooks for use and accept updates from the Toshiba, which included an upgrade of BIOS v1.70 for v2.00. He appears after this update occurs that Bluetooth no longer works, i.e. try to install Bluetooth Toshiba stack will fail as it is said that the Bluetooth radio is disabled and must be turned on for continue.

As the L750 (model PSK1WA-0C300R) is not a hardware switch to enable or disable the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, the only option available (Fn + F8) is unsuccessful. I ran a recovery of factory default installation and Bluetooth still does not - resumption of classes does not restore the BIOS to the previous version. I have 5 of the model and confirmed the update of the BIOS is the cause. Two laptops now have v2.00 and Bluetooth has been tested in the work before the update of the BIOS.

If Bluetooth is not critical for the environment which I deploy these notebooks, it's an annoyance I want to solve. My questions are: has anyone encounter the same problem and managed to resolve it? Is there a BIOS v1.70 available for download to restore the functionality? Y at - it an update of the BIOS > V2.00 for solve the problem I have? Thank you.

    Hi JasonL750,

Load default settings after updating the BIOS? Go into the BIOS, press the F9 key to load the default settings of the installation. Also, make sure that Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS if there is such an option.

In addition, it would be interesting to know what happens if you use the FN + F8 key combination. Don't you see that he has an option to turn on Bluetooth and if so what happens if you do this?

  • Satellite C55-A-16Z - graphics card does not work after BIOS update

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite C55-A-16Z with windows 8 and a Nvidia geforce 740M graphics card.

Last week he asked me to update the version of the bios at 1.30.
    The bios update was successful.

However when I restarted my laptop I started having a BSOD dgxkrnl.sys.
Correction of the error and restarted for an another BSOD Windows, and after the second solution, I stopped making BSOD.
But now, I noticed its games running, if not use the dedicated card, but use the 4000 Intel.

In the settings Nvidia dedicated card is configured to be always on.
It seems that my card is missing, but it appears in Device Manager.
I tried to delete, update the drivers and the default factory reset, but nothing helped.

Also, when I go into Options power the Intel card is listed and when I disable the card intel in the Device Manager it starts to use the graphic viewer for windows.

How can I get my Nvidia card to work again?
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

After the BIOS update the BIOS should be set to default settings.
You can do it in the BIOS.

In addition, you mentioned that Windows 8 is still installed on your laptop.
8.1 to win has already been published by Microsoft and I highly recommend that update you the system of 8 to 8.1 Win Win.

Before you start the upgrade to 8.1 win, you should check and read the instructions step by step for Toshiba: http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/

I guess that after the Win 8.1, nVidia graphics card upgrade works well also.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

  • Satellite C650 - black screen after BIOS update

My Satellite C650 Windows 7 - won't start afte BIOS update / switch.

Everything worked very well until the automatic update of Toshiba asked me to download and install the new BIOS update, I did. At the same session Windows and McAfee asked updated. I agreed to all. After all updates have been installed, turns off. The next day when I walk, I see only black screen. I also tried F2, F12 and drive recovery. Nothing happens!

    Any recommendation?

    Hey,.

It seems that something was wrong during the update of the BIOS and so that you can t the computer unbootable. But I put t understand why you did the BIOS update. If everything works correctly, you can forget about this update. More if you do a BIOS update you shouldn't t run any other updates or programs that might affect the update of the BIOS.

Anyway, in this case you can do nothing and you need professional help. Please contact an authorized service provider and guys can help you update the ROM module On the Web from Toshiba site, you can find a list of all the FSA:

I have satelite M100 PSMAAA-02006 with XP. I just updated the Bios on V3.0. Speakers do not work after update but the audio jack works so with headphones I can listen to but not through Laptop speakers and the keys to media on top of keyboard play, pause, stop, next, back, etc. homepage react too much.

Someone knows the solution to this issue. Or is it possible to get the old BIOS? Although I not sure aboutt previous version.

need quick help. Please answer as soon as possible.

    Thanks & best regards...

    Hi Julie,.

I doubt that this was due the update of the BIOS. Is that what you have loaded default settings after updating the BIOS?
Have you chosen the correct BIOS update?

Normally you can hear the sound on the speakers laptop if you disconnect the headset. Make sure that the sound is not muted, you can do this with the FN + ESC key combination.

About the multimedia keys, I would recommend reinstallation of Toshiba common Modules. You can find it on the Toshiba site.
