T41 screen goes suddenly blank - possible overheating?

Having an intermittent problem with my T41 and I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to the cause.

Most of the time, I use it in a docking station. Sometimes, after I used it for a while, the screen suddenly becomes empty. There are hard disk activity, as the light continues to blink, but the screen remains blank, no matter what I do. The only way out is to do a hard reboot via the button power and, when I turn it back on again, the screen comes back, but usually some of the desktop icons have changed places. Once, the screen resolution has also been reduced to 800 x 600, and I had to reset to 1024 x 768.

I noticed recently that when he does that little thing of closing screen, the fan doesn't seem to work, and if I delete the computer from the docking station, it seems a little warm down. Then when I restart the computer, the fan comes immediately and seems to be pushing a lot of heat on the vent on the side.

If anyone knows if there is a problem of overheating caused by the fan does not kick when it should or could there be another cause? One thing that confused me, it's that, according to the fault of Windows reporting system, it says it's a fault of video driver and I should update the driver. So can someone tell me what the problem really is?

Edit:

I was able to find one of the manuals in PDF format, and it seems that the computer is suddenly in hibernation due to overheating of the CPU. Unfortunately, that's all it says and does not give advice on how to solve the problem. Does this sound like a correct diagnosis?

A "video driver" fault on these machines is usually a sign of a GPU unsoldered, which is an extremely common problem on T4x units.

Install the ThinkPad fan control to monitor the time, but I think you're in for a replacement motherboard sooner rather than later. Your saving grace is that the best reballing shop when it comes to ThinkPads is located in the United Kingdom.

  • (Dell LCD) screen goes blank when I connect. Requires the switching on of the screen on and outside

(Dell LCD) screen goes blank when I connect.  Requires power to the power on and off screen, at least 15 to 20 times before picture stays on.  Any suggestions? No to the problem site so don't have the model numbers.  Dell computer and about 8 years.

Looks like your monitor is having problems sync-ing for the resolution settings that you have defined for your monitor.  When you get your screen is displayed, right-click on an empty area of your desktop-> properties-> (tab) settings.

Then, in the 'Screen Resolution' area, try to move the cursor to the end of 'Less' and click 'apply '.  It will then try to change to this new resolution.  If your screen is empty for now, just wait about 30 seconds and it will return to the previous resolution (which can mean that you need to power cycle your monitor you have done to get it back)-otherwise accept the settings if your display looks OK.  Try to find a solution that works with your monitor.  It is also possible that your monitor is going bad.

    Hey,.

    > ALWAYS goes black as soon as the ramps of gpu for example of playing a video or comparative analysis of the graphics card.
This means that the graphics card is defective

Theoretically, it could be an overheating problem too. Higher time can also cause a black screen. You should try everything that is possible to clean your laptop using the jet of compressed air to blow the dust from the cooling fans.

If it doesn t help it seems to be a hardware malfunction but seriously a point would be interesting: have you noticed the same thing with preinstalled OS (Vista) Toshiba?

  • My screen goes black, but is still on. My computer shuts down everything he does and I have to restart so that it become operational.

I said the video card is corrupted or is overheating.
The screen goes black randomly. Sometimes 2 minutes playing or until hours later. Sometimes it will not.

Connect the computer to another monitor. If the problems are gone, replace the original monitor. If the problems persist, then you have hardware problems on your computer. You can troubleshoot the hardware yourself:

    http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot

This includes exchanging the video card for a well-known work.

On tests of hardware failures often alleged swapping parts by parts checked. If you can not do the test yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop.

  • Satellite U920T - the screen goes black when you drag the keyboard

This morning, I turned on my U920T-10 days but the screen remained black.

At first, I thought the screen was broken, but in mode 'Tablet', the screen became. Now when I slide the keyboard the screen goes black again.

How can this problem be solved?

    Hello

For me, it looks like a bad connection somewhere between the screen and the motherboard.
This could be possible reason for failure to display while sliding in and out.

I guess this can be resolved easily and I think that it is a job for a technician (authorized service provider). I recommend you contact the service technician in your country to get the laptop fixed. I hope that the warranty is still valid in order to repair for free.

I hope that this can be corrected. I keep fingers crossed.

  • Satego P100 - the screen goes black

    Hello

If I turn on my laptop there is no problem. After maybe 5 minutes, the screen goes black and after a few minutes, he just a blue screen. Restarting the laptop. But now I don't have lines on the screen for the display of the BIOS and the power of Windows screen but during the operation. If the laptop is turned on after minutes the same, it goes black and then blue screen.

BIOS and reinstalled system. nothing happens. I think that BIOS is flawed, because there are lines on the screen when I turn on the laptop again.
If I leave the laptop for 15 minutes off the coast, it starts normally but aftern maybe 5 minutes it starts again with blue screen and other funny stuff.

Now - what is someone the problem and a solution?
I think the BIOS is a virus that destroyed. But I think that on a laptop, it is not possible to change only the BIOS. Because the update of it was ok but the problem remains.

Thx for the answers and cordially

I put t think the BIOS is defective. There must be another problem. All that you have done is just. Update the BIOS and the clean OS install are only option that you can do about it.

Please contact the nearest authorized maintainer and let the technician to check your laptop. Let them to test the operation of the equipment using the service tools.

  • NB100 - screen goes black afater 5 min of use

    Hello
I have a laptop NB100 with a very strange problem. I start the laptop and start to work, no problem.
But after 5 minutes, the screen goes black and the only thing that is possible is to turn off the laptop.

After that I start it again, but all black stays and you can't do anything with the laptop.
The lights of the battery, wifi and power led are lit, but that's all.

Even weirder: I first let it run the laptop battery empty.
When it's empty, and AC power is connected, that the laptop turns on again, but once again only for 5 minutes and all the rest, described above.

The laptop is used only 1 week before this problem occurred, but was bad enough bought more then a year ago, so not more than guaranteed (or what you thought: s)

So I really hope someone can help me here!

    Thank you in advance!

    Best regards, Steve.

    Hello

I had a similar problem with my laptop Toshiba-No.
The problem was related to a graphics card driver
I have no idea why this has happened but after driver graphics display card worked properly no black outputs plus

I think you should check the graphics chip and should update the graphics driver
I recommend to use the driver from the Intel page if you have an Intel GPU
    Page Intel drivers are newer

In addition, you should check if the BIOS is up to date
If a newer BIOS is available, check if you can update this

  • Satellite L35D screen goes black periodically

I looked through the various discussions forum on the screens black but can't seem to find one like mine.

When its not an overheating and cutting (another problem since!) It works for the most part fine, but lately the screen empties suddenly without reason.

I have to force a shutdown.
Sometimes if I restart, the screen turns on but sometimes it won't.
I tried to plug it into a separate monitor and it works but I still have to keep forcing a stoppage which may not be good in the long term.

Once she wouldn't come at all and I did a restore of the disc but I don't want to keep this and all reloading.
The laptop was disappointing because I bought it and it was not cheap, so maybe time to replace it with a Toshiba model No.

All advice appreciated before it is abandoned.
Doesn't seem to be a problem of physical screen.
It runs on Windows 7 Edition home premium (as new)

    Thank you

I found a thread in which you posted a few years ago here in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=49957

It seems that this issue could be still related to problems you had in the past.

As mentioned in the first thread, you have to update the BIOS to the latest state.
But if BIOS update day and installation of the new system (+ updating the graphics card driver) would not be useful, portable computer problems could be linked to a malfunction of the equipment.

  • Screen goes black but the Satellite A200 is always on

    Hello world

I just bought my laptop, but there seems to be something wrong with her.
It happened 4 times already, while browsing or watching videos online, the screen goes all white.

It will not display or whatever it is, even if I press the buttons, but I know that the laptop is still on because I can still see the light on the screen.

    Is this something normal?
Do I have to change the settings?

The computer is not idle, so I think screensaver has nothing to do with the screen going blank the fact that I'm in the middle of surfing (the mouse moves permanently).

    Please help, I need desperately.
    Thank you

    Hello

What cell phone do you have exactly?
The screen comes back after restart again?
Update you the display driver and BIOS?

I agree with you; This has nothing to do with the screesaver must not allow while working on the laptop.

  • My screen goes black all in use

My screen goes black, as if sleep but I can't react. Have to close and restart. Have checked the power settings and all seems well.

I guess that you tried to shake the mouse and keys for you ensure that it is not a screen blanker.  If this isn't the case, it could be to power of 1) your screen goes out, 2) your computer video card has a problem, 3) that you have a virus or other malware.  If your monitor is longer than 2-3 years, I guess (1).  If it is not the monitor, I would like to start safe mode and do a system scan with antivirus program complete.    Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan mode without failure.  To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode.  Then run a complete system scan.

If you don't find anything, I take it to a service technician and have it checked.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.
