  There is no need to check the registry keys to see if you can install updates or not.

  You just need to be connected to an administrator account to install the Windows updates.

  I'm sure I've upgraded to Vista SP2, but not absolute, I can't find a lot of information in the case of the newspapers with the service pack level... only vista combined with some process is perceptible. I bought July ' 09 new and it came pre-installed with Vista on it. I think this is the tool I used to remove McAfee on this; It also came with Norton as an alternative option and both have been removed using their tools to uninstall BitDefender installation instructions walked me through the location and the removal of two of them before installing BitDefender on the computer. My user account is configured as an administrator, but when I right click on programs with the shield of the UAC on them, I'm not running as an administrator.
