T410 - 2537AL8 vs. LAN WAN

What is the difference in use between LAN and WAN? When should I WAN card?

There is a wireless (WLAN, aka) LAN card which is your Wi - Fi 802.11 card standard.

There is also an option for a Wireless WAN (aka WWAN) card that uses the internet 3 G antenna-relay.

Go into the BIOS and change the active LAN/WLAN switch setting to disabled.

Save the setting it by hitting the F10 key and again when you exit the BIOS (save settings and exit).

  • LAN/WAN ports not supposed to be Gigabit? Capped at 250Mbps, NOT because of the ISP LAN devices.

    Hi all

Have a bit of a problem here. I have Internet Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) with Bell Canada and have their Fibe Gigabit service which is 940/120 speeds up and down, respectively. I was able to bypass his combo modem/router using a switch connected to the optical network terminal (HAVE) where the fiber cable enters the House (which serves mainly my base modem) and using custom settings of VLAN and DNS in ports specific for my fiber IPTV service Bell and receivers work together through my router.

So, I have a few routers that I tried this with to try to solve my problem. My Asus RT-AC5300 and others have no problem with having me my subscribed speed - certainly through devices connected to gigabit LAN and also via WiFi on compatible devices. But I'm not concerned about WiFi - it is specifically wired ethernet devices that are the cause. I use CAT5e and CAT6 cables only because he is a Gigabit connection. The issue I have with my Time Capsule (3 to, latest model AC) is that, literally, speeds for gigabit wired devices will not exceed 250Mbps downstream. Download speeds can hit 125Mbps without problem. Why is this? Is there something my Time Capsule prevents leave the LAN ports operating at gigabit full transfer speed? It is not only a device - I have multiple gigabit devices I tested, on all three of the TC ports, and none of them exceed 250Mbps. Yet when I connect them to another router gigabit, such as the Asus I've described but also others, they have no problem hitting 900 + Mbps downstream on the exact same network configuration and Setup at home.

Thanks for any ideas, comments or suggestions. Y at - it a setting I have accidentally enabled that is the cause? I had much rather use the TC of the most convenient airport for my network I was planning on getting multiple Airport extreme to position around the House to cover literally home WiFi and LAN bridges through the simple installation of these devices, but I do if I can't use my fiber subscribed speed.

OR maybe I have a defective unit. Thanks again for the help!

    See you soon

The issue I have with my Time Capsule (3 to, latest model AC) is that, literally, speeds for gigabit wired devices will not exceed 250Mbps downstream. Download speeds can hit 125Mbps without problem. Why is this?

Apple AirPort routers have been designed to work with the cable standard and DSL connections. The fiber is the new ball game, and Apple knows yet how to play the game, let alone to understand the rules.

Most of the problems associated with connections to high speed on airports is a result of the decision of Apple to eliminate any kind of manual settings to manually adjust the speed of the WAN port on the router... and are based rather on an "Auto" setting. Automatic adjustment seems to work pretty well on the fiber up to approximately 100 Mbps connections, but the WAN port is struggling to negotiate with high-speed connections when it is connected directly to the fiber. LAN ports can also be affected.

Some users have reported that insert a Gigabit switch between the connection of the fiber and the Time Capsule or AirPort Extreme has helped with speeds. The theory here is that the switch can negotiate with the fiber connection much better than the WAN port on the Apple device. If you have a handy Gigabit Ethernet switch, that it could not hurt to try this "Workaround". Other users report no benefit when they try it.

Yet when I connect them to another router gigabit, such as the Asus I've described but also others, they have no problem hitting 900 + Mbps downstream on the exact same network configuration and Setup at home.

The time Capsule is not directly connected to the fiber connection, so it OK to talk and negotiate with what he sees as a 'normal' a conventional router connection.

Don't forget also that the 802.11ac products were designed before 2013. Current products have not changed since their introduction in June 2013.

The bottom line... Apple needs to decide whether it wants to be an actor, or leave the routing other players company established. Such what, Apple is far behind the curve... my opinion.

While it might not hurt to take the time Capsule to an Apple Store to check over the machine, you might want to ensure that they have in fact a fiber connection high speed to test.

    Dear VMware community

Did someone a challenge? Being totally new to VMware (3 weeks to read and watch videose etc) I hope that this will start a discussion on the best way install, configure, and deploy my new virtual environment in a phase of the 3 stage for phase 1 to move into the new year 2012, first quarter for Headquarters and then so on. I'm reading VMware vSphere Design, Mastering VMware vSphere and VMware vSphere 5 technical clustering Deepdive 5.

Little background on our remedies and knowledge: -.

There are 2 IT guys, me (TD) and JP. JP has been with the same company and in it for about 5 years to deal with printers, ADSL, workstations physical and Small Business SERVER 2003 servers on sites, I was in there for about 12 years covering the market of small businesses (10-100 users) mainly on printers, workstations, LAN and WAN, servers Microsoft SBS 2003 to 2010 database Server 2003 and 2008 R2, Exchange 2003 to 2010, Draytek, WiFi AP and switches routers unmanaged.

Little background on the parameters of our society: -.

We have 1 company but 3 separate sites... Office of Chief of site 1, Site 2 Site 3 (as a franchise) so each site tracks than their own facilities on the chart of accounts, personnel etc. etc. but reports to Headquarters.

Site 1 has 50 users with Server 2003 SBS, SQL Server, Intranet, Helpdesk and PC Reporting.

SQL is only used by 10 users for an internal application.

10/10 MB Internet in lead line

Site 2 has 50 users with a SBS 2003 and Server 2003 std, AD, DC, DHCP server, DNS etc.

Server 2003 std manages a small application by a third company which send a little info per week.

10/10 MB Internet in lead line

Site 3 has 30 users with Std 2003 server, AD, DHCP, DNS etc. and mail is pop collected on the net.

Each site has now a connection of 1 GB Draytek 2830n with site-to-site inactive using ipsec vpn about 20 MB speed and an average of 15ms ping (no traffic is sent over lines at the moment), x 3 24-port HP Procurve switches, unmanaged, therefore, each site has its own separate domain structure, AD DC, DNS, DHCP etc., and IP. It's a real pain to manage and look after.

Adding all sites operating systems, data, Mail etc etc I will use about 1.5 TB

  • How to use a VM vyatta to manage my LAN/WAN connections?

I have a simple problem that is hard to explain, so please bear with me. I am using a router Vyatta VM to manage my local network. I have connectivity thoughout my local network but I cannot go outside my local network of the virtual machine. I have a linux box running ubuntu 8.04, vmware server 2.0.2 + vyatta VC6. eth1 on the box gets a public IP address from my ISP (we tell 1.1.1.2 for demonstration).

eth1 has an eth1.2 to interface VLAN with private IP 192.168.1.2/24.

I have some maps more who are bridge interface br0 with IP 192.168.2.2/24.

    Ubuntu eth1 (1.1.1.2) <-WAN

    Eth1.2 Ubuntu (192.168.1.2/24) <-LAN 1

    Br0 (192.168.2.2/24) Ubunru <-LAN 2

    Vyatta eth0 (192.168.1.1/24) is filled to eth1.2 <-LAN 1

    Vyatta eth1 (192.168.2.1/24) is bridged to br0 <-LAN 2

Routes on the GNU / linux and vyatta appear to be configured correctly, but I can't do a ping of the Vyatta VM to the internet (say google http://74.125.45.105) or my gateway address ISP 1.1.1.1 that, however, I can ping from the Vyatta VM to the linux box eth1 1.1.1.2, which is a "public" IP address I thought I'd add a static route to 0.0.0.0/0 next hop 1.1.1.2 would do it but still no cookies. Someone knows what's the problem?

  • Cisco 867VAE configuration issues - does no routing between LAN & WAN

Im trying to configure a 867VAE to use our ADSL line. I can do to connect to the ISP, get an IP on their part and can ping 8.8.8.8 (Server DNS Googles) since the CLI routers but the side LAN does not work.

Im just trying to assign static addresses to the side in the 192.168.1.0 LAN range, but it does not seem to carry the traffic from one side to the other. Can it be related to not being able to assign an IP address to all four ports Fast Ethernet (switch)? I get IP addresses cannot be set up on L2 links so Ive vlan1 configuration instead, but that cannot link to any real interface

Attached is the current running config

Can as a question you please recommend a good book to learn how to do this sort of thing?

    Thank you

Hi ports 800 series which are l2 may not take an ip address like you because they are pure switch ports, so if you your using several VLANS part SVI Layer 3 must be set to the router and the switchports to shared resources, if only using the vlan 1 should not no need to trunk or make changes to these default ports , they are in the vlan 1

You have a switch involved or are your PC connection directly to these ports, you set the gateway default ip address vlan 1?

The interface vlan 1 shows to the top and to the top when you run int ip see the brief

VLAN 1 is related to these ports, so when you connect to a pc with a correct address in this range him vlan will come and you should be able to ping from the local pc to the internet

You don't have to bother with books that all things CCNA are on youtube and much easier to learn videos and books as you can see it being configured

    Dear support,

I want to use CLI to manage my ISA550W.

Given that this model does not support Telnet. (Please, correct me if I'm wrong)

So I try to use SSHv2 to ISA550W.

But it's not working, I always got error message "access denied."

Managing devices > Cisco Services & support > helpline > select SSHv2 Server 'On' > enter password Support remotely "Aa123456."

I tried the connection name to username/password or username vacuum/Remote Support password to access ISA550W via SSHv2. But does any work.

Is there an another "root account" SSHv2 purposes?

    Any advice will be appreciated.

    Thank you

    David

    Hello David,.

The ISA is not designed to be configured by CLI, but rather by the web GUI. It does not support SSH or telnet access to the configuration.

You found the diagnostic option for SSH root access, but it's something that level 2 or the engineering team would do with you if they tried to isolate a bug or a case of management work. For normal operation that is not accessible, you can go ahead and disable it unless asked by a technical support technician.

  • LAN/WAN design issues: redundant network core design and equipment

    Dear all,

I have a growing network that has inherited the reliability and scalability issues:

    (Example from my existing network)

We pop connected with us through lines of CF, that LSPS are connected to our CF traverse on persistent organic pollutants.

Now, it is necessary to make the core of switching (switch with "?" mark) redundant

because this is the point of concentration of all connections outside.

I got an appointment in order to study new equipment (now it's just Catalyst 3560) for this network block.

Unfortunately, the budget is pretty low.

    I have the following considerations:

I think that the main problem is that most of the connections is L2 trunk links and it is difficult to prevent this.

It seems that I need to duplicate all the links to LSP FC, pop and branches (this seems doable) and rely on STP! (this seems bad)

    with all of these links.

Currently, I have two options for the basic block:

    1. two Catalyst 3750 have duplicated links. (CSW1 LSP1, CSW2-LSP1) and rely on STP

    2. a switch Catalyst 4500 series with two redundant supervisors (probably, they allow to buy if there are strong arguments) have reproduced links and rely on STP.

These two options do not look good because I have to rely on STP with LSP.

I would use redundancy features and L3 protocols, but do not know how to avoid trunks

I have no experience with the material of fantasy as a Catalyst 4500/6500 series.

Could someone please advice me alternatives for options of design and of the hardware and confirmation or withdrawal of my options.

Also, I would be grateful if someone could help me find strong arguments for the acquisition of Catalyst 4500 series light up the core.

    Thank you much in advance.

    Best regards

    Max

    Hi Max,.

in the diagram and description that you provided the switch, you need to replace is a dashboard device that works only for the moment, in L2

If you plan to go L3 communications in this device, you should review your design to the whole of the network and also review/discuss with MS how that can be converted into L3 communications

If you want to keep the same as L2 and introduce it into the device or devices for redundancy, I'd rather have two redundant devices of a redundant chassis that I mean pair of 3750 is more reliable chassis 4500 with equipment redundant as soup, UPE however its a reliable option as well and again for sure

If you rely on STP for redundancy, what is the problem here? It is time of convergence or what is your concern?

    hope this helps

  • E4200 comments via LAN network

I have wireless comments upward and running very well. But I have to also connect to the network to search for the router via one of the ethernet ports. Can I simply specify the LAN-conencted PC a static IP address of 192.168.3.x for access to the network of comments? I guess that there is no feature VLAN...

And better yet, can I set up a DHCP relationship to this port? So that any device plugged into the port will get an IP address on that subnet? (I doubt that... but thought I would ask.)

    Thank you.

Update: peripheral connected LAN will indeed not network access to comments 3.x. best way to do it if you want a segment of network private/comments on your LAN that sharing your internet connection is to 3 routers in a configuration of Y.

    Like this:

    Internet <->RouterA WAN

    RouterA LAN<->WAN-RouterB

    RouterA LAN WAN-RouterC<->

I was able to configure DHCP for all routers. RouterA 192.168.1.0, RouterB 192.168.0.0, RouterC 192.168.2.0. (3.0 is used by the network without comment thread).

Which is nice in this regard, is that you can put all your public stuff (files, printers, internet connection sharing) on RouterA. B and C are behind their firewall for traffic in them is limited to your firewall rules. Nice, put in place. Funny way to do so, but since these aren't quality professional firewalls and routers, it works very well.
