[T410] FDE - user password insufficient to erase disk (master required?)

Hello community,

before all sorry for my bad English skills. I have a problem with my drive hard-encryption:

For about 1.5 years, I encrypted my hard drive with a user-password (FDE). Now, I plan to replace the hard drive and use the external old as a usb device. So I want to erase the entire disc + password. I tried the "Drive erase Utility" Lenovo, but it requires a master-password. I don't know it

With my user password I can modify the BIOS settings, format the drive and reinstall a new operating system, I can even change the user password. But I can't remove the password / encryption.

My question: is it possible to remove the password from the drive (FDE) only with the password? (Even if a password has been set?)

Thank you

Hello, roderwald.

Pages 40 to 42 of your Hardware Maintenance Manual describe the passwords of the BIOS, including the differences between the master password and the user HARD drive.

  • Qosmio x 300 15 t drive hard master wrong password, but know the user password

I don't know if it's in the right forum, but I have a problem with my internal hard drive. I put a main HARD drive password and user password using the BIOS HARD drive. Some time later I discovered I have to tapping the bad HARD drive a master twice on the confirmation, as it is coming from wrong when I try to remove it! I can still access the floppy using the password 'user HDD' both within the laptop, but a HARD one master drive value, I can't remove the locks. This means that I can't get out my drive and put it in a USB caddy or access it from another PC or laptop. I backed up all that is on it, so data loss is not a concern, but is it possible to remove the password if you know the password? I don't want to use this drive in my laptop, and then my laptop if effrondrent on me that the hard drive is basically locked on this laptop unless I find a way to get rid of the master password - that would mean the loss of data in the future to come if the laptop is dead!
The drive is a TOSHIBA MK1059GSM with firmware 50IDF3DMS (I post the serial number). I would just buy a new drive, but as it is a 1000 GB, and they are expensive, I would find a means to correct the password to disk than to spend the money a brand-new car. Like I said, data loss is not a concern, I just want to go to a fully usable state!
If anyone knows a solution, please let me know!

  • Disable the requirement of password for the network disks

I have a LAN with Windows XP Pro and Vista computers. With some effort, all computers can see, edit and manage files on other computers. There is also network disks (that is, directly connected to the network; no computer) used for backup and storage.

None of the computers or readers in network has a login password or user name. I intend to keep it that way. (Think of the bucolic neighborhood where no one locks doors and there is no flights.)

Since the Vista (Ultimate) computer, when I try to back up to a network drive, Vista insists on a user name and password. But there is not. So, I can't back up to a network drive (although in Windows Explorer and the command prompt, I can write and manage networked computers and disks without problem). I was not able to find a way around this obstacle.

I put the Vista computer is not to require a password (network and sharing Center > sharing and discovery > sharing protected by password = Off). But that seems to focus on the incoming requests (from other computers to access the Vista computer) but no outgoing requests (Vista to get access to other computers and readers). Affecting the security of the files and folders on other computers and network disks to everyone = control total (in other words, anyone who can physically access the disc should be able to write to it) did not solve the problem.

I assume that there is a simple solution. I would be grateful for help. (Remember that the parameter/allocation of passwords is not a solution).

I don "t know precisely how to do what you ask for - there is no commands or settings I am sensitive to this address. It can probably be done with a registry fix, but I looked and could not find one.

I found the following solution suggested in another forum and it was the only one who seemed to avoid the need for name of user and password (or failed to mention this requirement and exists).  It may not be the same as your situation is a Win Server and so maybe a field rather than a working group, but it seems worth a try.  To be honest, I don't know yet if the command applies to your situation and can not test it with my system - but who will know soon enough. If it allows you to, maybe the location of the network password will give you tips on how to make various adjustments that will work in your situation.  I would be cautious about deleting all references without making a note of them so they can be restored if she doesn't and perhaps is still problematic.  I would also create a system restore point right before starting this process to be on the safe side.

For what it's worth, I had this works when you connect a Vista client to Win Server 2003 R2 SIN.  I had the same questions as everyone else here, but ultimately what worked for me was of typecontrol userpasswords2 in the command run on the Vista client and go into the Advanced tab, then on manage passwords.  I found references to the NAS (DNS names, ip addresses) and removed all.  Then I disonnected all drives mapped to the SIN of working.  Then I traced the drive that I was going to use for backup by using the network card function first and that worked (I used the mapping of IP).  Then I went into the backup and restore and it said it was on a network drive and typed in the path (once again using an IP instead of a server name) and he was able to see the drive and I would like to choose what to backup, etc. and it worked.

I hope this works.  If this isn't the case, after return and I'll investigate more trying to find a solution (if any).

    Good luck!

  • AFP://user: password@server + connect as?

    Hello

before you move on to Sierra, to connect to my NAS, under Finder-> go-> connect to server, I used to type:

    AFP://user: password@server/share_name

with no pop-up windows ' connect as '.

Now, after the upgrade, after the command: afp://user: password@server, a "connect as" windows appears and it's annoying.

Someone knows how to jump this window "connect as"?

    Thank you

    Daniele

I think it has something to do with SMB being now the default connection for Sierra. I tried the syntax shown you and replaced "afp" with "smb", but still have the screen connect as . Even when you select the server in the left pane of the Finder, I always have to make a sign in as. It is used to remember how I connected and go immediately to the actions on the server, but no more. Always have to connect as.

I used to be able to get Firefox to start with the homepage with URL (https), including the username/password. Unfortunately, in last PC Restore, I forgot to turn off the automatic updates of Firefox new version has deprecated the length - network.http.phishy.user - password so stops the PC connection with popup that is the BIG problem on PC without supervision. • Satellite A100 is locked because of the fingerprint BIOS & user password

    Hi all

I have my A100 to my work, recognition of the TouchChip fingerprint a year ago. On initial installation, I recorded my fingerprint of the windows interface.
Six months ago I had to reinstall windows XP due to infection by the virus that is not repairable. I have installed Windows XP Home edition and downloaded all the drivers and additional software from Toshiba's site.

I him didn't record again my fingerprints, and I have NOT activated the TouchChip software this time. My problem was only an annoying message at the time the sign that said «you have not saved your fingerprint again...» "and that's it.
After a 2 week out of town trip (My A100 was locked in my office, and powered OFF - no connection to the sector) at first start, software TouchChip is back from the dead!

Screen 'TouchChip Bios Extension' appeared after plugging, and my finger is required to load WXP!
When connecting user WXP dialogue the additional message "you have not saved your fingerprint again... is always here, but I cannot start the machine without my fingerprint." After some digging later in PowerProtector (?) I found an option that says 'enable or disable the use of fingerprints for system and user password BIOS' or something like that.

I turn this off, and the machine asked to reboot. It was the last time I saw the office.
After reboot, the system asks password. BUT I DID NOT PUT ANY SYSTEM OR USER PASSWORD!
    Is this possible?
    I did something wrong?
    What is the solution?
I'm locked out; I don't know why and how the BIOS is locked with a password (so I can't unlock it).
    Please someone help.

    Best regards, Georgios

I don't know what exactly A100 computer laptop you have, but it seems that the laptop came with the Vista operating system preinstalled.

You have installed XP and drivers XP only from the Toshiba page.
But from my understanding, the BIOS should be updated too! The Satellite A100 series supports a special XP BIOS version. If the BIOS was not updated the laptop might not run correctly.

I don't know if it could have a negative influence on the fingerprint, but nothing is impossible!
However, the fact is that the BIOS asks for the password. If you don't know this, you need to remove the other... and this can be done by a service provider authorized in your country.

Request assistance from technicians and explain the whole story! Maybe they will remove the password for free!

    Bye and good luck

  • Satellite M70-129: user password controls access to the system at boot

    Hello

    1. from Toshiba Assist (password utility) I put the supervisor with string (text boards) owner password and then I put the user with chain owner password. But during startup BIOS only prompt you for the user password and his Rosary of owner. User mode many BIOS options are disable including the HW installation option.

    2. when I click on Toshiba HWSetup, he invites supervisor password. But if I get the supervisor (not 100% sure) password, it says invalid password. I also tried to change the Toshiba supervisor password, password help utility but failed.

    3. in the meantime due to virus attack, I had to reformat my laptop with Toshiba Recovery CD, sacrifice all my data. I bought this laptop in a few months.

    4. How can I completely remove the BIOS supervisor password and user. Help, please.

    Hello Anas

You are right. If there is no possibility to remove the password, the service partner for this but it costs a bit.

Otherwise I put t agree with you on the common problem on Satellite models, because it is a very serious thing and I really t think Toshiba may allow something like that to happen. If it's truth can you imagine what turbulence will be on the market, or perhaps to the press. I put t really believe in this theory.

  • Portege R500 - no response from user password

Having just taken delivery of a new Portege R500, I tried to make a bluetooth connection when a screen came and asked to set up an administrator and user password. I have set up the password of the user only, typing in only once (but did not arise to confirm). When I turned on the computer again, there was a request for password in the upper right corner. But when I typed in it, nothing happens outside of the computer go after 3 attempts.

It's the password but I've noticed that when I was putting the origin of the series of * only appeared with the second letter. Is there a simple solution or do I return to the dealers? I have no data on it have only added programs to date.

    Thanks for any advice.

If there is nothing especially on the HARD drive, I recommend you use the recovery image and make the clean OS install. After doing this there's second chance to establish a Bluetooth connection.

  • Satellite Pro L10: How to remove the user password

    Hello

I work for a school and we have a bunch of laptops Satellite Pro L10. I put a supervisor on all laptops password think this problem would be solved (I didn't enter a password each time the machines are enabled), but one of our students seems to have found its way to the HWSetup utility in Control Panel and could save a user password on one of the laptops.

Alarmingly there seems to be no way to clear the password of the user, even though I have the supervisor password. I can get the BIOS as a supervisor, but the definition of a user password option is grayed out. Can anyone provide a solution for my problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

Well, I think that this problem could be solved by updating the BIOS to the version 2.60 or greater.
But the problem is that the password has already been fixed.

I read in the paper of Toshiba that all passwords must be removed before starting the BIOS updates.
That's why I think it would be advisable to contact Toshiba service partner to remove first the user password, and then update the BIOS.

You know it's very risky to update the BIOS of the device when the user or any password has been set.
It of possible that the BIOS update procedure will be interrupted if the password exists.

Just to confirm that, please switch on the device and press the F2 key.

If BIOS password has been configured you should NOT be able to access the BIOS...
In this case, you will need contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country in order to remove the password...
