T60 60 GB SATA 320 GB HARD drive upgrade

I know just enough to be dangerous, please bear with me.

I have a T60 1953 - D7U with the original Toshiba 60 GB HDD SATA/150, which is saturated.  I've used Norton Ghost to copy the 60 GB drive to a Fijitsu 320 HDD SATA/300, which was in an external USB enclosure.  Both are 5400 RPM.  I copied the MBR.

After that I installed the 320 GB drive, the T60 will not start.  Using F12 to interrupt the boot process, I see the listed 320 GB drive, but apparently it does not appear as a boot drive.

Is there anything else I need to do for the T60 to boot from the new drive?

Note: the controller SATA Mode Option is set to "AHCI".  The other option is "compatibility."   That this has something to do with it.

Add ' l Info: initially, I tried to copy the 60 GB and the 320 GB using Acronis True Image v7.0 which was on a bootable CD.  Acronis has a msg of error E000101F4 No. Drive 0 Found.  She not only saw the attached USB 320 GB drive.  That's why I went to Ghost.  Y at - it no problem using Ghost for this copy?

Thank you very much for your time.

Pontiac196, welcome to the forum,

the SATA mode has nothing to do with it, the problem here is that your player target must be inserted as primary drive in your T60 for the cloning process to work.

The following knowledge base articles must contain I hope that all the info you need.

X 61 image deployment - a material similar to T60

Cloning R61 - a material similar to T60

T61 HDD Upgrade - a material similar to T60

Happy, cloning and let know us how it works.

HP 6470 b 2nd hard drive upgrade. How fast this port works on? SATA I, II or III

I want to put in a 60 GB SSD into the CD slot and want to see how fast it will support as this will be used for the Cache

    Thank you

The published information is not explicit; He says only: SATA for the expansion Bay while the main hard drive Bay expressly says SATA-III. However, given that this isn't just an optical drive Bay, but also a general 'Bay expansion', it is safe to assume it of on the same SATA bus as main drive and is a SATA III interface.

    Data sheet

6470b is also supposed to have a slot for a WSSD mSATA, but he is not described in the Manual:

    Manual

Obviously the WSSD would work better for cache but you can use a 60 gig SSD in an expansion bay for both cache adapter. Even if the connection is SATA-II, it will be much faster to work for a cache of acceleration.

  • Satellite A100 - hard drive upgrade

    Hi all

I want to improve my Satellite A100-847 with disk bigger and harder. I chose hitachi "travelstar", like the original, but running on 7200 RPM. My question is can I use SATA II 3 Gb/s model, or should I choose SATA I 1.5 Gb/s as the original. because if my laptop does not support SATA II, the hard drive will not work.

    Thanks in advance!

Well, as far as I know the A100-847 supports a SATA interface.
SATA II drives are backward compatible, but may not work with some older motherboards.

If I you would be then I would not risk compatibility problems and choose the SATA/150 (SATA I) HARD drive.
In this case, you can be sure that your new HARD drive would be recognized correctly.

In addition, you must make sure that your new HARD drive size would be too strong.
The fact is that not all HARD drive sizes are supported by the BIOS.

You device was equipped with a 100 GB HARD drive. Am I wrong? Well, in this case, you might try some 120GB, 160GB and maybe a 200 GB HARD drive.

  • Satellite A50-111 - HARD drive upgrade

    Hello!

I need to upgrade hard drive of my laptop because it is very slow. However, I know it's a 60 GB to factory-installed 4200 RPM.
I'm ready to be upgraded to a fast 7200 RPM, if possible, with a decent capacity, but I'm not sure of the supported hard drive type (IDE?, 2.5?) is a model of 5 years. In my view, there are incompatibilities with the laptops today, hard drive formats, so I really need help.
Thank you very much for your help!

    Hey Buddy,

In my opinion the HARD drive upgrade will not increase performance well then you should try the other options first as reinstalling Windows, or upgrade the RAM.

Anyway, Satellite A50 use IDE interface, so you can use hard disks of 120 GB of disk space.
Of course, you can take a model at 7200 RPM, but they need more energy and produce more noise.
    I recommend a 120 GB 5400 RPM model. That s pretty fast!

    Hello

I found the info your device comes with 40 GB IDE (ATA - 5) HARD drive. I think in your case, to capacity. High-capacity hard drives are not recognized properly, but I think that with 60 or 80 GB HDD should perhaps be recognized correctly.

If anyone on this forum can give you accurate information, I recommend you contact your local dealer or service in your country. They are experts upgrade material and they have accurate info on HARD drive upgrade.

Don't worry, buddy... I don't see any serious reason why would be supported not the 320 GB SATA HARD drive.
The SATA controller must handle the tough without major problems.

It is important that you use a HARD SATA 2.5 ". The size and speed of the HARD drive should not affect compatibility.

  • HARD drive upgrade to 320 on Satellite Pro A200SE - 1 X 6

    Hello

I recently bought a Toshiba laptop Satellite Pro A200SE - 1 X 6, that it came with 80 GB hard drive and I want to upgrade to 320 GB HARD disk, is it possible?

At the back of the laptop, I found a compartment for a second HDD to HDD2.
I tried to open it by unscrewing the screws but I couldn't take off the cover even after I removed the two screws, could someone help me on how to remove the cover HDD2? *

Last question, what type of HARD drive I need to purchase?
I thought it might be SATA!

    Thank you very much
    Taha

    Hello

I m not 100% sure if a HDD 320 would go well on your Satellite A200 and BIOS recognize it without big problems.
First of all try to test it somehow

    With regard to the second disc cover HARD;
I have an A200 Equium and same second HARD drive Bay is available on my laptop.
The plastic cover is fixed ONLY with these two screws and after the withdrawal of these two screws, you should be able to remove the HARD drive Bay cover too.
I know a little bit more difficult but try to use a thin object and try to leverage.
    But be careful!

    Just a note;
Not all A200 supports the second HDD! But the second span is always available.
Yes, it's a bit confusing (I was too confused), but it seems that there are different models with different motherboards and that's why the second HARD disk controller is not always there.

    Welcome them

    Hallo all

Can someoane help me with this little problem?
    I have a portable satellite A210-128 with a hard drive of 250 G 4200 RPM (* slowest *)... I want to change the hard drive with a hdd 2.5 "Western Digital 320 G 7200 RPM (* speed *).

    Question:
    1. If I buy a disk sata2 hard can I put on my laptop because my A210-128 has a disk sata hard?

2 can I I install vista on this new hard drive on my vista dvd, im asking this because I want to be shor that my recovery dvd * RECOGNIZES THE NEW HARD drive * and I can install a new copy of windows or installing dvd can * only works with disk drives hard toshiba *... ???

    Thank you.

    As to the question;

    (1) I think a SATA2 HARD drive would go because the standard SATA2 is compatible to the bottom. But I assume that the system will operate as a good HDD SATA.

    (2) Yes, you can install vista using the Toshiba Recovery DVD. It shouldn't be a problem with a fresh install

  • HP Pavilion DV6345US hard drive upgrade, 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA 1.5 Gb/s

    Hello

I need help on upgrading my hard drive on an HP Pavilion DV6345US.

    The hard drive is a 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA - 1, 5 Gbps.

I would like to replace it with a drive of 500 GB - 7200 rpm or 500 GB - 5400 RPM.

But I have read that HP Pavilion DV6499 or less may have difficulty using a 7200 RPM drive.

That means that a 500 GB drive to 5400 RPM can be used,

or is the limit of 320 GB 5400 RPM or less?

If its SATA you need SATA drivers to install. Since the XP CD doesn't have the SATA drivers on it

Unless you disable the AHCI in the BIOS. Or their wake.

Or get the SATA drivers. Check out them on diskette, press F6 during installation and then add them.

  • The T60 SSD HARD drive upgrade

I have a Lenovo T60 (2623-KFU) for about 3 years now, and it's always hard with no real problems. I was thinking some SSD solutions. Is it possible (and not void the warranty) to replace the hard drive with an SSD Fluxsol? I hope that the Motherboad/BIOS/others does not limit this anyway.

Otherwise, I do not use my WWan device and was considering to replace care wireless with a SSD Mini PCI-e card. I know that blocking the BIOS a few components, but is the restriction to only wireless cards, or for all?

Yes the SATA 2.5 inch SSD will work, but it is limited to SATA1 mode, you are able to change the hard disk without affecting the warranty because it is considered to be a customer replaceable unit or THOUGHT.
