T60 - thermal grease replacement fan

My T60 fan started whining then IBM sent me a replacement fan and a tube of thermal grease - but the fan already has the thermal grease on it.

Fat is actually a matrix of 5 x 7 of 35 points of thermal grease. Everything I've ever read on the application of thermal paste says that it should be applied in a very thin layer, smooth and these thermal grease points seem quite in line with that.

1 should I flatten points and spread them thinly? Or IBM expects we just install what it is - maybe the pressure during the installation is supposed to flatten out the appropriate grease?

2 should I create some handy pure alcohol to remove all the old grease before replacing the fan?

Hello

1. the points will become flat and a thin layer under pressure and when it is applied.

2. Yes, clean the old grease.

3. watch any contact part´s get´s fat.

Like your old radiator, it takes grease on the new.

Concerning

What thermal grease is suitable for my computer laptop dv6 6154tx? What thermal grease is used by the Hp company? Please suggest me a good product.

Thermal grease is acceptable. It is more a matter of how it is applied to the brand of the compound you use. The trick is to cover just the core processor as thin as possible while providing full coverage, but coming down not more. There is usually just a drop in the size of a BB. If you do not find it my favorite brand is Arctic Silver with the highest possible metal content, which is generally indicated on the label. But even the economic 'pack of ketchup' white stuff works very well.

  • 1245dx D7 - reapply the thermal grease for CPU/GPU - GPU thermal pad

The result is a hp pavilion dv7 1245dx having heating issues so disassabled to clean it and apply new thermal grease and notice that the video chip has a thermal pad instead of thermal grease. This is what it looks like.

Guys/girls do you think it is reusable or do I need to replace it as well. If I need to replace it, what are my options? Difficult to find a pad thermal repalcement anywhere. A decent high CoolerMaster performace size heat for the CPU it's okay.

Yes, it uses a thermal buffer, because the gap is too big to fill with dough. You can reuse the pad. Some people even make a solid metal shim in sheet copper or a hammered out penny and you can apply heat is dedicated to that.

  • Pavilion g7 thermal grease for Proccesor graphic.

Pavilion laptop g7 requires thermal grease for Proccesor graphic?

    Thank you!

Whenever I have repair a laptop I remove thin aluminum shim and clean the heat sink. Then I use a small amount of artic silver (my choice. There are others) a thin layer is fine. The thing to watch are the pads of heat transfer of silicone that maybe on graphic memory chips. Do not put any HT composed on those. You can find sheets of silicone in line. (color = thickness) HT silicone pads are also used on the northbridge, and sometimes on both voltage regulator components.

  • HP ENVY dv7t-7300 CTO Quad Edi: what part of replacement fan that I get for my laptop? Memory discrete or UMA?

Hello, I have problems finding the right replacement for my hp laptop part. I have a laptop that needs to have his replaced fan/radiator. The laptop is the HP ENVY laptop dv7t-7300 CTO Quad Edition. I went online and find the service manual for the computer to find the spare part. There was a list of spare parts for the different variants of models.

The results of narrowed it down in 2 results for spare parts. A fan/radiator was for a graphics subsystem with discrete memory and the other fan/radiator for a graphics system with memory UMA. I don't know which one is for my computer, could you please help clarify? The part 682061-001 or 682060-001 part?

    Model No.: dv7t-7300

    Product #: C2Y65AV

    [Personal information]

    Hello

No, I'm talking about Device Manager. Hope that the sticker is good then your machine's discreet graphics because:

    • The UMA version applies to the motherboard that does not have a separate dedicated graphics chip. On this version, the graphics processing is managed by the North bridge chipset.
    • The discreet version applies to the motherboard with a separate chip to achieve all the graphics processors.

Based on the sticker, your machine has NVIDIA GEFORCE GT M 635

    Kind regards.

  • T400 overheating - caused by dry thermal grease & fan sale

If he hangs on ThinkPad logo, it is likely a short circuit USB port on this model. The plastic piece can detach and create a short circuit. You can use something sharp, like a needle, to separate the pins of the other and far the metal casing. If this is the case and 'fix you' port, it works perfectly, unless you stick something in the port.

  • Replaced fan does not start

Hi, I have a T60p in which I just replaced the heatsync/fan because it was noisy.  After reassembling the laptop, when I press the power button, the fan runs for 3 seconds and turn on the lights indicating the function of the hard disk and so on. Then, after 3 seconds the fan stops turning and the only light that stays on is one that looks like a Z with a circle around it - nothing is never displayed on the screen.  I have to hold the power button to make the Z light turn off and when I do I switched the drive hard as if he is to stop.

I put the original fan/heatsync back in to see if the new fan has caused the problem, but the same thing happens.

I used the thermal paste and followed all the instructions, several times.  I worked as a computer tech for many years and have replaced the heatsync/fan on many laptops without problem.  This is the first time I've ever had a problem like this.  Any help is appreciated!  Thank you

    TuuS,

    Thanks for the quick response!

I finally got the computer to boot by removing the upper part of the stick of RAM.  The computer seems to only start when 1 stick of RAM is installed in the lower housing.  The two RAM sticks work in the slot in the bottom is not the RAM itself, but the slot.  No idea why that might be?  Of course, the next question is, is it possible to fix this?

    Thanks again!

If you look at the list of surfer parts HP parts available for the CTO of XW899AV, under fan, you will see that part number indicated.

The description of the part in the service manual States it includes thermal interface material, so I do not think that you must order the thermal pad kit.

  • Can I replace fan CPU Vista cruise?

    Thank you!

Question may be stupid, but why you want to change something? Settings and features are powered by Microsoft and also tested and adapted by Toshiba.
    What is the problem?

Out of curiosity, what Toshiba laptop do you have?

  • Re: Replacing fan on Satellite Z930

    Hello world

because my Z830 is more an A360 the last days as a quiet ultrabook I wanted to address the annoying loud fan subjekt again...

Iluminatus23 mentioned in [another thread | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=271287#271287] he uses now new Z930 fan in his Z830 with good results (silence!).
On the internet, I wasn't able to find a seller for this fan in Germany. Is anyone of you know where I can get this fabulous new fan? Can it even be (free?) replaced by Toshiba? (guaranteed & mobile)

Perhaps Iluminatus23 could give us a little more information about the replacement (where he got his fan of / if the replacement is easy / if he's happy, or maybe the problems occurred afterwards)?

Thank you for your time and hope to have some answers :)

Just before doing anything on your own try to contact Toshiba in Germany service provider and ask if they can help with this.
It is a machine very expensive so don't do anything on your own.

  • Pavilion fan questions after replacing fans.

I have a 4 years, HP Pavilion Elite m9500y equipped of Windows Vista. I had received messages from 'system fan failure' on startup from time to time and had heard loud grinding noises still occasionally. I changed the power supply and a video card, and none has solved the problem. Lately, computer work really slowly and the CPU temperature was more than 100 degrees Celsius only at startup.

I replaced the cpu fan and case fan today and have encountered a new problem - when I hit the power button, the computer starts up, I see both fans run for about 10 seconds, and then they stop. The CPU fan first, then the case fan. Then, I get an error message saying the CPU fan has failed and the computer turns off. It is possible that I installed the fans back. Does anyone know the correct orientation or have pictures? Anything else may have caused the problems?

    skidlz,

54sec at 01:17 minutes this video shows the CPU fan and the orientation of the blade. In regards to the rear case fan, fan shroud has an arrow showing the flow. The fan is a fan, so he blows on the back.

  • Equium A100-147: replaced Fan part number

    Hello

I have an Equium A100 147 which is now out of warranty.
I need to be able to find and of course spare part number where I can buy one of these ASAP.

If someone could help me with this, it would be quite apprieciated.

    Thank you

You can not ONLY buy the fan. The fan is a part of the cooling module and the entire module cooling must be replaced.

You need a cooling module that has been designed especially for this series of laptop and I know ASP (certified partner) in your country should be able to help.

I think guys should be able to order this part compatible directly from the warehouse of Toshiba.

Then call the guy and ask for help!

  • Pavilion G6: Replace fan on Pavilion

I realize this is probably a general 'fault' with most laptops, but why the hell don't manufacturers build their machines with fans that are accessible, like all hard drives seem to be. Moving parts are obviously more likely to wear or fail over time and, as far as I can see, there are two types in a laptop, the HARD drive and fan.
Replace a HARD drive can be done in an hour or two (eg. On a G6 Pavilion, it requires the removal of two screws and careful replacement) but to replace a cooling fan, we're looking for a good ten or twelve hours (eg. On a G6 Pavilion on the only part that doesn't have to be physically removed and put in the back is the screen, I lost count of the number of screws).
With repair shops charge as much as £80 per hour that it's cheaper to buy a new machine that pay for a piece of a £20 replaced. I suspect that there is a general scheme by all manufacturers to ensure that their customers replace their machines after expiration of the warranty, rather that attempt to repair a machine that works perfectly but needs only a 4oz part replaced for another couple of use of it.

Thought so, just be a bit lazy, I guess.
Want to do things (and do it myself), some pride self creeping in.
