Target mode iMac won't start plu

My iMac 27-inch became unbootable, due to the well known failure of AMD Radeon HD 6970 M video card.

My computer is 4 years and 4 months and Apple refuses to replace the card through the replacement program.

I'm not ready to pay the amount to fix the card.

How can I recover data from the hard drive works perfectly?

I does not start correctly, it makes a loop and loop, I use mode target with another Mac, or do I have the GUI to work?

Are there other solutions or do I physically remove the hard drive?

Thanks in advance!

OS X El Capitan: transfer files between two computers using target disk mode

This procedure works for any OS X.

If this does not work, just to retrieve your data from your backup.  No reverse?

If this is the case, you've learned a very expensive lesson not to trust to your

digital resources on a single device, no matter, Android, Mac, PC, iPhone etc,.,.

the fact is electronic devices may fail.  No no no backups is an accident waiting to

occur.

  • Old iMac won't start.

    Hi all

My old iMac (core duo Intel) refuses to start, even after her trying everything I could find on this forum.

Safe mode barely fills one third of the status bar before leaving. Apple Hardware Test says the disc works perfectly, as do the Single User Mode and my old eMac using a method of fire wire cable and hard target disk. I have reset NVRAM and controller management system without result; and verbose mode isn't anything say. I do know that if it means something but after all these procedures a blue cursor arrow appears in the upper left corner of the screen. I tried to use the disk utility on the OS x install disc, but the computer crashes with a message box indicating that I have to restart my computer – so it seems there is no way for to reinstall me OSX either!

Can someone please suggest a solution until I have to take it to a service center for what will be probably an expensive repair? If I think I know what you responses will be!

    Thank you very much.

When you run the Apple Hardware Test, do you have it run Mode Extended 2 - 3 times back to back. Except if you did the test you ran was worthless. AHT is unreliable, the reason to run in Extended Mode is to allow him to test all components, even then he captures errors sometimes until the third attempt. However, when errors are found, they are accurate.

Given the age of the computer, you must decide if you want to invest in it. If it is longer than about 6 years, Apple won't touch which means to take at an Apple authorized Service provider who can charge for diagnosis. Your call is really what you want to do.

  • 2011 21 inch iMac won't start after the SSD upgrade

Recently, I upgraded my hard drive for an SSD via a computer repair business in my neighborhood, I also upgraded the ram, but I don't think it's in the case. On a two weeks after the upgrade, my computer don't turn on more. I took it to the genius bar and they told me that the DSS had "failed." So of course, I took my computer to the computer repair company and they ran some tests, discovered that the hard disk does not (according to them, he only read this way because the apple store has run the test for a normal hard drive and not an SSD). I'm not super computer savvy, so I took their word for it.

Now, however, it has been nearly a month and my computer refuses to activate once again. Previously, it has worked well, the fans were running at full blast - what I knew would be a problem (although the repairman told me that they 'fixed' this issue too). So the first time, I downloaded a program called SSD fan control and set the fans to run in silent mode. This second time around, I realized that it was probably a bad idea because it could lead to overheating, so I put manually the fan speed so that we could hear still run, but just not as loud.

I tried the reset SMC, but no result. Right now, I unplugged everything including disconnect it from the power strip.

Any other experience of power with a new SSD failure? Is there anything else I could try at home before contacting the computer again repair business? I would not be able to reach at least until tomorrow, and I'm really curious to know how they managed to get my computer back on the first time.

Also, I've been out of my warranty period for about a year, so that's why I thought that I was not risking too much by exchanging the original for one SSD drive.

First of all, the original in Middle 2011 iMac hard drive had a temperature sensor integrated in the drive.  More new or replacement of those who do not.

Other World Computing sells an Apple certified temperature sensor that plugs into the SATA cable.

  • Desktop iMac won't start

About 2 months ago or not, I've updated my desktop iMac computer 2011 at El Capitan (running 10.11.1).  Everything has been works fine until this afternoon when I sat in for use.  I remember leaving the computer on when I went to work last night and didn't touch when I got home this morning.  When I tried to turn it on, nothing - no fans spinning, no boot screen, nothing.  I unplugged the computer and held the power button for about 20 seconds, but nothing happened.  Does not even plug and unplugginh both ends of the power cord and have switched plugs.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you do not have any audio or video on what means its are not getting any power, check what is obvious, and if not then it is likely a supply failure.

Reinstall El Capitan without erasing the drive

Make sure that you have a current backup before continuing.

    HD recovery start:

Restart the computer after the ring, press in and hold the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen to appear.

    Repair

When the recovery menu appears, select disk utility and press the continue button. Disk utility charges and select Macintosh HD entry indented from the list on the left.  Click the first aid tab in the toolbar... If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then re-run first aid until no errors are reported. Wait until the operation is complete, then quit disk utility and return to the main menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

Reinstall OS X: Select reinstall OS X and click on the continue button.

Note : You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest to use Ethernet if possible because it's three times faster than Wi - Fi and more reliable.

In the future please post in the appropriate forum. Your question is not related to the developers forum. I will take care of moved it.

  • E260 v2 won't start - necessary recovery mode

My e260 v2 won't start.  After the logo screen, it says not "enough space for music DB.  Please free 90 MB' and stops quickly.  When I connect it to the computer, the computer recognizes it, but it does not appear in the Explorer.  Indeed, the Explorer crashes if the Sansa is connected.  Windows Media Player does not recognize it no more.

After reading this forum and other sources online, I thought that the solution to my problem was to go into recovery mode and reformatting.  However, it will not be in recovery mode.  After reading a bit more, I learned that models v2 is not recovery mode, but I have not found anyone mention what to do instead.  So, how can I reset my Sansa to the factory settings?

The "not enough space" error is most often related to a file corruption.  You will need to manually connect in MSC mode.  Step 1 of the solution includes details on that for you.

    Voila!  It's pretty simple.

If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

  • iMac won't turn. Startup disk is full. TDM won't let me edit.

iMac won't turn. Startup disk is full. TDM won't let me edit.

My iMac turns off 10 seconds after the start to the top. I tried repair disk running, to no avail. What is happening is because my boot drive is full, off the 500 GB I partitioned in mac, 493,63 GB is taken up. I bought a thunderbolt cable to access the TOC on my mac book, and I have access to my files now. The problem is that I can only copy files. Authorities say I read and write permissions. When I start my host computer, it says "you can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I'm trying to copy all my files on this computer and remove what I don't want copies, then reinstall OSX on my iMac. The problem is that some files are native to all OSX, so it would prevent me from copying the files. For example, if I want to copy my applications folder, it stops to copy once it reached the app store, because it cannot copy that. It is a problem because when it comes to the library, there are small files in there that I don't know if I can copy, then it stops at the copy and I end up with half of my files and I don't know what I need and what I have.

Everything you need to copy the disk, then start the iMac in recovery (command-R) mode. Wipe the drive and reinstall OS X from the recovery console.

  • iMac does not start!

I have an iMac 2006 model number of 20 inch A1174 (EMS 2105). for some reason, it won't start. He had the apple with the loading circle logo and it would remain only to it. every day ive been looking for ways to find a solution. crazy part is that I don't have an apple based keyboard nor mouse. Im running on a keyboard and a mouse in windows. It's like some buttons work, some don't. Ive tried to do the shift etc. to start recovery, but for some reason these keys do not work to use the r command. so I came to the conclusion, something was wrong with the hard drive. I erased it and reformatted it. I popped it back in and I used the ALT key during the startup and original OS X CD to install back to the cabinet and a second, everything seemed to work, installation and all. then I got a code error "Can't find the driver for this ACPI platform please restart your computer, etc." now I'm back to square one and don't know what to do and I really need this problem.

If your original DVD still works:

Erase disc before Snow Leopard OS X

    1. Boot from your OS X installation disc. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button.  When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.
    2. After loading disk utility, select the volume that you want to format in the list to one side. Click Delete in the main window of disk utility.
    3. Set the type of Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Click the clear button and wait until the process is complete.
    4. After completed exit the utility disk and return to the installer.
    5. Follow the instructions on the screen to install OS X.

You have another Mac, you can use or borrow? You could try booting the Macbook target disk mode and connect it to another Mac.

The hard drive should appear on the other Mac, and you can try to remove some of the films to get about 10 GB of free space on the disk. Then try to start it normally.

Share files between two computers with target - Apple Support disk mode

If you need to borrow one, try to see if the Macbook target disk mode - I don't see why he shouldn't, however.
