the 50% memory usage and no vm

Hello

I recently bought two Dell r900 servers ESXi 3.5.0 build 111522 preinstalled.

When I first started the serversm and them managed directly through the VI

customer. I noticed something strange. The VI client said about 50%

memory usage with absolutely no virtual machine running on the server. I have

proceededto add servers to my vcserver. But vcserver also reports

50% use of memory with nothing else running on the server.

Screenshot:

Specifications of the server: Dell PowerEdge r900 6 x Intel Xeon E7450 processor and controller @ 2, 40Ghz with 128 GB of memory. Does anyone know what causes this problem?

  • Relationship between memory of comments and the host memory usage

    Hello

I noticed today that the memory usage of my cluster rose close to 90% in all of the blades. I checked and found that a number of virtual machines is everyone using over 3 GB of memory host. When I went in the performance monitor for each of these virtual machines, they used only a maximum of 400 MB.

How the memory usage of comments relate to the host memory usage, and how I can reduce the amount of memory used host so I do not have a performance hit through the cluster?

  • What is the difference between the memory usage and bunch of EM?

    Hi all

In OAS 10.1.3.3 Enterprise Manager, JVM Metrics, there are two columns on memory:

    Use of memory (MB)
    Use of memory segment (Mo)

(use of heap seems to be up and down, but the memory usage is never down)

What are the differences between the two?

How to check a Svchost.exe high memory usage and troubleshoot

    Beautiful Basu 'ASK ',.

I think I know the answer. Visit this link

And you can download SvcHost Viwer here.

Run the following command from cmd: tasklist/SVC /fi "imagename eq svchost.exe".

Focus on the PID that is causing the high CPU.

Run SC Config = own Type for each service under this PID. It will launch each service with a separate svchost.exe.

I would recommend for a complete AV scan.

  • Questions on the host memory usage

I was wondering if someone could give some insight on the following situation. We vSphere host set upwards with 32 GB of RAM. On this, we have 10 VMware View desktops and a couple Server VMs. We have configured each in order to have 2 GB of RAM. The host is showing an alarm for the host memory usage, but if you look at each of the virtual machines Windows XP, memory is granted way superior to the active memory. We have no reserve set and actions are set to normal. I wonder why the system reports a memory constraint when the largest part of the memory is alocating is not active.  In addition, the shared memory is showing 0. So this means that the memory page sharing does not locate? Am I missing something?

ESX has called fresh General.  A virtual machine has 2 ways to manage memory.  a physical machine has one, physical RAM, and when this physical RAM disappeared, the operating system is left with only one option, Exchange.

VM works the same way.  A material divides the virtual machine into small sections, only they have hard limits.  So your VM is 2G, the operating system and virtual machine sees only 2 GB of RAM.  When this RAM was gone, the operating system must decide where the extra RAM is come.  Since it is a Vritual machine, the RAM of the machine can ALSO be swapped.

So, when you create a virtual machine, and you do not have reservations, you say that the Virtual Machine to get the RAM of the host, if this fails, get from a pagefile on the RAM disk.  If not THEN the operating system can use internal swap, but ESX requires a virtual machine to use his 'balloon' driver to lead you to the top of RAM internal and fool the operating system into thinking that he MUST use internal swap. It is probably where you are confused.

The use of the RAM that you see is the virtual machine, taking all THE RAM of the host.  If the host has say 48GB of RAM, and you have the run of the 10 mV, which is more than 20 GB of RAM in use.  There is a LOT of RAM left other virtual machines, so in this case, the memory of the host is high (use), but not ACTIVE, which means allocated for the virtual machine, but the OS is not really 'use' for the moment.

When you add multiple virtual machines, you will see this fall.  Keep in mind they can really share the memory too, so among those 20 VM with VM similar (like Windows), they are all windows (suggests) and 30% of that share these 20 VM, so 30% 20 GB is 7 GB, so 13 GB that is actually used, so in a perfect world, ideal conditions your host should be about 15 GB used probably less active 6 GB, but EACH VM shows 2 GB of memory host, right?

It's normal.  When one approaches the limit of host memory that these figures will change, from OS and need and that the BONE... and to complicate things even more, reservations and VM limits and priority will ALSO skew the numbers.

    Isn't fun ESX?

  • How can I check the JVM memory usage?

    Hi all

I had a number of applications that run in Weblogic running in the same JVM. Is there a way to monitor the memory usage of the JVM heap for a particular application?

    If I do
    ps -ef | grep java

No Linux command will be made available within a JAVA virtual machine running an application server and understand how much his memory belongs to a specific web - app.

  • Check if the Oracle memory usage is critical

    Hi all

I'm in Oracle Database 11 g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 and I would like to know how if it is possible to detect any evidence that Oracle may encounter a problem of memory.

I know how to get STATS$ SGASTAT and STATS$ PGASTAT for historical data from V$ SGASTAT and V$ PGASTAT respectively.

But is there a calculation can be done and may indicate that Oracle is currently at a stage of critical memory use? Or any other given I can check (with the exception of newspapers) which could indicate such a thing?

    Thanks in advance.

A symptom peut be continued use memory increase, once the database has been restarted, although there is no extraordinary use. This can be a problem that occurs in seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months or even years. Of course, if it takes some time, the problem is less a problem.

More important is: measure, one of these functions underestimated in this DOCUMENT, plus monitoring does not even basic OK stuff, or more in depth things.

  • The host memory, comments and memory

I'm the stage of tests to understand how RAM is run on a host ESXi 5.x.

I have create a new Windows Server 2008 R2 with 16 GB of RAM and installed VM.

The virtual machine is running wit a logged-on user and no activity.

vSphere client reports Host MEM - MB as 11325 (why not 16000?) and guest mem % 53% (decreasing very sloowly).

Reports of Windows task manager memory is 1 GB.

How can I read these data?

What is the amount of RAM that is really used?

How can I change the data in vSphere client, as the old good F5 produced no visible results?

    Hi guy,

If the host is not constrained memory, when you turn the virtual computer, assign the needs of memory from the operating system. Then, the memory is not recovered because it didn't claim to host you.

I don't know why you see only 11000GB... can you give us screen printing, for this virtual machine, "resources Alocation"?

Installed Vmware tools in the virtual machine?

When you host is limited, so act balooning and the memory of the host for this computer virtual will decrease.

    Kind regards

    Leandro.

  • withdraw the authorization allowing you to monitor the memory usage

I now often have either force quit, restart and started having panic 'of the core"since I agree allow Firefox CPU usage monitor. I'm still on OS X 10.6.8 on my Mac. I got no problem with anything since installing this OS X.

However, from time to time with the latest Firefox 7.0.1 installation I think the program or my computer 'blocks' and seems unresponsive. I left active Firefox and resident on my computer last night and once again, everything will be inadmissible. I opened the monitor activity and noticed that Firefox was consuming 283 MB of real memory (now 298,6 MB) and I have this one open another tab for the Seattle Times. I withdraw my permission to allow Firefox to watch my memory usage and need to know how to delete the cookie or what ever that governs)

Go to Firefox > Preferences > advanced > general tab and uncheck the box "send performance data" more information here.

  • Memory usage

We have a few GSM7228 and 5300 network (successful) on LAN switches. All switches has 90% or more of average use memory permanently.

The network works fine, but we are curious to know the high memory usage. Average CPU usage is less than 10%, response time is great & packet loss is 0%.

Any idea what could cause high memory usage? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. The version of the installed firmware is 10.0.0.53.

How to troubleshoot the depth to find the cause of the heavy memory usage. ?

    Thank you

    hitgon

    Hello

    vmstat-s

This will give a more detailed overview. Search for active/inactive values and used swap. If active memory is close to the total memory and you have a larger amount of used swap, then you might have the memory pressure.

If the Exchange is not used much, and you have the right percentage of inactive memory, then linux could easily swap memory without a performance problem. In this case, the pressure of memory is very likely.

For a report very detailed on the use of single process

    PMAP pid - x

M and the press allows you to sort by memory use. If you are using pmap on bigest processes, then you should have a good starting point was that your memory has disappeared.
