The desktop icons have overlapping window?
Right now, the problem I have right now, has to do with my desktop icons. Not too long ago, I used a remover to office arrow and it messed with my registry. I don't know why, but it ended anyway does not. Now, instead of the arrow, I have a WEIRD window looking icon overlapping my icons. Its like a box with an x in the upper right corner and three icons above the other three icons in the window itself. It is smaller than a large icon and bigger than a small icon. Which means that when I chose little, he rides my ACTUAL together icon with this junk. It's pretty boring. I'll see if I can't get an accurate picture. Thank you guys

The desktop icons have all disappeared, moved to the taskbar.
My desktop icons have disappeared. I tried to do a right click on the desktop, but nothing happens, no pop - up menu or anything like that. The desktop items have been moved to the taskbar background, so I have access to all my icons, but I'd like to come back to the office. I tried to drag items on the desktop from the taskbar on the desktop, but nothing happens. It's as if the desktop is locked. Time virus scan clean. Windows updated last night, but I don't know if that is related. Any ideas? Thank you.

shortcut on the desktop icons disappear in windows 7.
Hello, good morning.
I'm back with yet another question.
I've recently converted to Windows 7 from XP Pro and have had problems. This last is rather strange. It seems only to happen Monday a.m.. The shortcut icons disappear from the desktop. Today - Monday - they have waited until between 10 and 11:00 go AWOL, but have been known to leave earlier.
I tried a few remedies offered online following (Yes, the 'Show icons' box is checked) and so far nothing seems to improve the situation.
I am currently using Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
I use the software on a Dell Optiplex 380 which has been upgraded to 2 GB of RAM - processor is an Intel Core 2 DUO 2.93 GHz - it is a 32-bit operating system.
I managed to find a number (KB 2670504) on the Microsoft Web site. This document or software fix or anything that was to offer a solution to the problem, but I wasn't able to find it on the Web site.
I can only say that I had no problems like this with the faithful XP software. It ran like a champ. But I guess time marches on.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Rudy Hemmann

My system is connected to the network with 3 PCs and all are licensed copy.
Hello
Welcome to the Forums Community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.
According to the description, you get an error message "FAILED CONNECTION USER INIT" after installing Windows updates.
From my research, this problem occurs if the Userinit key in the Windows registry has been changed. For example, this problem may occur if the Userinit key has a value, but no binary data.
I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below.
Method 1:
Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Step 2: Check the value and binary Userinit registry data
Important: The following instructions contain the steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information, view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
Back up the registry
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registrya. start Registry Editor. To do this, click Start, type regedit in the search box and press ENTER.
b. click continue.
c. Locate and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
d. in the right pane, right-click Userinit, and then click change.
e. in the value data box, type hard disk:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe, and then click OK.
Note: The placeholder of the hard drive refers to the drive on which Windows Vista is installed.
f. close the registry editor.
g. restart the computer.
Method 2:
Restore the system to an earlier point before installing this application.
System Restore can return your files system to a point in time before you noticed a problem, without affecting documents, photos, or other personal files. If the system restore does not resolve the problem, you can undo the restore operation and choose a different restore point.

All the desktop icons have changed, please help!
I wanted to open a game, so I double-clicked on the icon shortcut, as usual.
I was told that I had to search for a file on the internet or a group of programs to open this game.I have all the games correctly installed files. Then I chose to open the game with this icon of games, now it changed all my icons on my laptop to a thumbnail of this image of the games shortcut. I have no knowledge of how to restore ALL their original images.I can not open a large part of my programs because they automatically want to open with this icon.I can't do system restore unfortunately like I did not restore points. Can someone help me?Hi Jackalus,
It seems that application shortcuts are corrupted.
We will try these steps and check if it helps.
Method 1: Run the fix - it suggested in the following link.

The desktop icons are inactive with Windows 7 home
I have problems with the office, after you start everything seems ok. Wait 2-3 minutes, you are no longer able to select or what either by right-clicking on the desktop but the clock on the screen, even though the start menu and everything that it works fine, when you shut down the system, icons, I tried to click on show to be opened because the pc stops.
Hi 2confused,
Looks like you need to restore your icons. This may be attributed to a pole by a post from Rob Brown answers by I can't find the link, it's my "ups". In any case, here's how:
Here is the first thing to try...
Right-click on the desktop, select display and then "show desktop icons".
From this point, you can try to restore upward or by a system restore to an earlier point to be icons in your existing installation.
If you opt for the restoration of the system, here are the instructions:
How to do a system restore in Windows 7
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.htmlSo that leaves us with you try to restore the icons on the existing installation. Here are a few methods:

All the program icons have the same appearance and open Windows Media Center
Original title: cannot start a program
When I click on an any program icon on the Windows 7 Desktop, a window appears with its contents: suggested program to open Windows Media Center. All the programs on the desktop icons have the same appearance.Using Word 2007 to get an example:
I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut on the desktop (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you select theWord (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand checkalways use the selected program to open this type of file, the referenced by the shortcut of origin Word document opens in Word as it should.
The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by Word and use Word icon to display the shortcut. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely.
This has happened enough that a small utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is a registry hack to do this, but I recommend the utility unLNK for its ease of use.
A utility to Unassociate Types of files in Windows 7 and Vista
http://www.Winhelponline.com/articles/231/1/an-utility-to-unassociate-file-types-in-Windows-7-and-Vista.htmlJust use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files. Operating instructions are available on the web page above (the same place to get the utility).
