Hi, I upgraded my envy6 with 16 GB Crucial RAM and 500 GB samsung SSD evo. After upgrade, I did a clean install of windows 10 and stopped to use the itegrated msata ssd. My question is:
Can I install a second operating system on the msata ssd? Can this bios read the second OS on the msata? Is there a procedure to follow?
    Thank you

Thanks for suggesting it, but I've created a simple way... I just installed the second OS on the msata. At startup the sistem starts automatically on my main drive (500 GB win10), but if I press F9 when starting, I can see my linux on second drive (32 GB msata) and just choose to start when I need.
Don't need to grub or similar just manual choice, and that's what I wanted!

  • Best option to use the mSATA SSD Drive - HP Envy 15 Sleekbook: Cache or primary storage?

    Product: HP Envy 15 t Sleekbook (15 t-j100)

    Hi all

I intend to buy an SSD mSATA disc to my desire, because I want to improve the response time at the opening of some programs, improve the General performance of the operating system and to access files faster to big (read and write).

I searched several readers mSATA SSD in the Web and I chose a P830 Series128GB mSATA SSD Samsung miniPCI-E disk (SATA III 6 GB/s, read 500 MB/s, writing of 400 MB/s).

But I'm asking about what might be the best option to use the SSD mSATA so suitable as a primary drive (operating system installation and leaving 1 TB of HARD drive for storage and applications) or use it as a cache to improve overall performance.

I do not envy for IE play or video editing, but I work with VMWare Workstation, and most of the time I need to use about 2 or 3 VM at the same time (sometimes during the recovery of a virtual Suspension of machine it take a long time, the virtual disks sizes about 40 GB). Another use for my desire is to play movies/series HD / 3D 0 and mirrored them for my Smart TV (via Miracast)

I read something on Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) and I heard some benefits for use with SSDS as cache memory but I am still confused the best option.

Any suggestions you may have? It might be useful for me!

    Kind regards

    Alejandro

    Hello @cchoiz ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you have questions about the installation of your mSATA SSD.

The mSATA slot is designed to only be used as a disk cache. You may experience problems starting in the mSATA SSD as drive. For this reason, I recommend to use it in its configuration provided; as a cache drive.

The decision is entirely at you in the end. If you are able to configure the BIOS to use the mSATA as the main drive, this will help improve your system performance in addition to using it as a cache drive, especially if there is enough space to install your VMWare on the mSATA SSD after you have installed the operating system. Use it as a main drive will also increase the life expectancy of the SSD.

I can only offer you my personal and no suggestions 'official response HP' in this regard. As previously mentioned, it is entirely up to you.

Hopfully, this helps at least a little.

  • The Msata SSD on HP Pavilion 14-n033TX update

Hi, I bought my new laptop HP Pavilion 14-n033TX with SSD specified 24 GB cache. I want to upgrade the SSD in drive for windows startup and have more storage for SSDS? The specifications of the SSD I need? m sata, half size or size and what is the maximum size for this? Thank you.

There are several ways to do so. Several SSD (Samsung for example) is issued with migration software (CD), but you'll need an adapter usb to SATA like that.

Just connect the external SSD drive with this device and the boot of cloning a disk and follow the prompts to copy. Make sure the SSD you buy is greater than the data currently installed on the old drive. The clone will smoother copies two disks of the same size, but you can resize. Just be careful actual scores of Windows 8 that in some cases if you make them too small, you can't start or system of things like the Windows backup will not work.

If you have another external drive, you can also do a full Windows system backup and then restore the backup by using a Windows repair disk or OS installation disc.

Personally, I use Acronis True Image 2014 (older versions will not work with Windows 8).

    http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/pc-backup/?adpos=1t1&device=c&network=g&matchtype=b&creative=44836518617&gclid=Cj0KEQjw06GfBRCR9tDI4t6n5_MBEiQAFo6kuKlWUPWzHg3ZofpygwRHifSLDq0VVFocq9wW9ZF1gqMaAttq8P8HAQ

The trial version used to work for cloning, but they removed this feature. It costs $50 now; for me is worth I clone a lot of readers, but you probably want something for free.

When you cloned the old disk to the disk SSD just Exchange the SSD in laptop hard drive Bay.

  • Portege R930 - upgrade the mSATA SSD succssfull

Just briefly, I wanted to report an SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a PRO 840 Samsung SSD 512 GB (big improvement). Now, this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity up to 1 TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + adapter SATA I felt an mSATA unit would be more "evolutionary" - next update of the laptop for me would be a Portege Z, who use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB with a Delock adapter/converter mSATA SSD, made a clone of the Apricorn cable and the software switched the SSD and everything works fine (actually a little faster )! At first I tried to use the clone with software from Samsungs migration but this didn t work, maybe I didn t the right version.

-Now I have a lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I'm not an expert with computers - just a happy user Toshiba! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

So, I bought a Samsung SSD 850 EVO mSATA 1 TB whole with a converter/adapter Delock...

    Good news Lao!
Thanks a lot for the comments...

I also upgraded my laptop with a 250 GB SSD drive and now I think of a larger SSD... I should consider your solution now...

  • HP Envy 15-j002eg mSATA SSD update

Hello people I'm planing to buy this beautiful model, it has a nice card but lacks in the part of the HARD drive.
It comes with 12 GB of RAM. Now, I am planning to buy an mSATA SSD of 24 GB or more and put it in the slot mSATA for thing Intel Rapid Storage for max etc. I saw him really increase the speed of the HARD drive performance upward loading times, etc. But I saw somewhere that it cannot work with 12 GB of RAM on this model? Is it true or not? Thanks for helping me!

You don't find it in the BIOS, but if you use Magic Jelly Bean you can extract a validated/activated copy running on the computer. You must never post again. If you install from a Windows OEM 8 DVD the key Code will be just placed in the operating system and magically valid and active automatically. You will also need a USB Intel Rapid Storage driver to power the operating system during installation as storage is defined as a matrix RAID if a normal hard drive and a GSU are both present.

When I build in the ssd bios dind't find the ssd, so I can't install windows in the ssd

    Hello

Satellite A210 does not support port mSATA and therefore the mSATA SSD module cannot be used.
Probably, you have found a mini-PCI on the motherboard slot. It certainly looks like mSATA but its not the same thing.

  • W540 mSATA SSD as data along SSD into the main slot drive

Can I just install an mSATA SSD along my main SSD in W530 to use the old as data storage? He will see it not as a single cache? Thank you

ExpressCache is something that must be put in place.

By default the mSATA SSD is just storage.

When you put it in, it is not formatted and does not appear in my computer, so you must go to disk management to format it in NTFS so it appears.

  • Selection of the mSATA port w / 120GB SSD and HDD using Rapid Storage Technology

For my XPS 8500, I try to understand how to better select the appropriate for my two readers ports: 1.standalone120GB SSD drive and player 2.a 1 TB HHD mSATA of w / 120GB SSD using Intel Rapid Storage Technology.  The standalone SSD should be on port 0 (SATA III) and put on port 1 HARD drive (SATA II), or would the using HHD Rapid Storage Technology better put on port 0, and put the standalone SSD on port 1?  Which of the two configurations of ports will get the best performance for startup, application loading and general use (no game)?  I intend to use the standalone SSD as boot drive and application drive while using the HHD to store data (especially the collection large photo).  As I understand it, the choice becomes one which the reader will work better (suffer the least) on the SATA II port.  I read that HARD drive using Rapid Storage Technology technology perform almost as although independent of SSD, but I do not know if the SATA II port speed limit either or both players so that no matter what port is selected (i.e. HARD drive using RST on port 0 would work as well as standalone SSD on port 1)?

Thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Hi DoctorDED,

The mSATA SSD is usually used as a cache for a mechanical drive. With a 120 GB SSD as drive system, you do not have the reader mSATA as a cache, but I believe you can still use it for storage.

You must install the SSD on port 0 and mechanical training on port 1.

  • I have to remove mSata SSD on Inspiron 15R - SE (7520) during the SSD upgrade?

I noticed that my laptop has a job 32 GB SSD mSata as cache for 1 TB HARD drive. However I intend to abandon this 1 TB HARD drive in DVD - Rom tray and slap in a SSD 128 GB... now the problem returns to the mSata SSD.

the mSata ssd presents itself as 'LITEONIT LMT-32', its also show as SATA_array_0001 under the technology Intel Rapid Storage, with 8 GB data and 22 gb Cache volume.

base on this site, to remove this mSata SSD seems to be a pain in the ass who require a full strip down.

now I'm just amazing, what happens IF I let this mSata SSD in there, he will try to act as a cache for my SSD which is already much faster than it or the system is going to be smart enough to put my HARD drive cache. I will win ANY performance gain / lost in leaving the mSata SSD in? If not, is it possible to disable it?

    Hello again,

If the installation is very easy. I made sure that the 32 GB msata, was disabled before I installed the new 240 GB SSD.

After you disable acceleration - MAKE sure THAT YOU RESET to DISP - really important... Make sure the msata drive is empty, no partition.

I removed the 1 TB drive, after I deleted the partition do not reformat... that I placed in a basket and I replaced the BD player...

Let Intel rapid storage enabled in the Bios

I installed the SSD and put the Dell OEM Windows 7 USB in and then I went... Because the other 2 drives had no any partition, left of Windows system reserves on the SSD> Windows will throw the reserve system on any other installed drive which has partitions, installing (reason msata and 1 TB of disk are not formatted)

Once Windows 7 has been made and installed, I have download driver Intel Rapid Storage from Dell... and went in the administrative options... I formatted the 1 TB drive and initialized only msata 'no format.

Returned to Intel Rapid Storage, and it was there, activate the acceleration. So I used only 22 GB for acceleration, on the storage of 1 TB drive 'former reader'... leaving me flying over 8 GB... Re-entered administrative options... and I formatted (NTFS) 8gbs... I used the 8 GB for my swap file, freeing up the 8 gb of OS "ssd s. - great idea, using a separate drive for the paging file.

I'm sure that you can also use the 8 GB for your quick start too, but I do not use the quick start...

Now, I have a 240 gb C500 and a Cached 1 TB 5400 RPM disk storage... I never really use the BD player... But I kept it just wrap... Reading and writing is great on this thing and if I decided to load my 425 GB of steam games, now I can load them on my storage drive, and it will always be super fast!

Thanks for reading and I hope you find this useful!

  • 2720 XPS does not start after replacing mSATA SSD 32 GB

    Hello

I replaced the mSATA SSD 32 GB on my 2720 XPS with a Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB SSD.

When I go into the BIOS, I see the new drive mSATA.

But when I try to start, I get the error "no boot device."

I have not changed the settings in my BIOS after permutation of the SSD but I noticed that my first boot device is now internal hard drive instead of Windows boot device, or something in front.

Any ideas? I tried not to put the 32 GB SSD back in again to see if it boots always.

    Thanks in advance.

So, I called Microsoft and basically got told that, because I did a clean install on a separate disk that Windows was originally installed, they are unable to help me. I'll have to do a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on my SSD and then upgrade to Windows 10 from there.

He mentions this particular fact nowhere on their website that provides the media tool!

And the fact that the Dell rep, I spoke of na not know that particular nugget and asked me to do a clean install on the new disk did not help at all.

Now I have to wait for Dell to send me a CD of Windows 8 so that I can install on my SSD and update from there.

Beware if you are already on Windows 10 and planning to install it on a new drive!
