The scrapping of vCenter server and start over, which vCOps think?

So have had some problems with our box of vCenter, VMware support has not been able to help and we're finally at the point where we want to just start over with her.

The plan was to break the bond of vCOps, rebuild, add it again and continue with life.

My question is how its data is collected by vCOps and he re - create all objects or it will continue to collect and build on what we have collected for the past year.

Did someone done this before when running vCOps?

vCops key off the ME of the virtual machine, what will change if you wipe vCenter... so your old data will still be there, but all virtual machines will be considered as new objects and old data will be "failed".

  • The upgrade to vCenter Server to vCenter Server 5.1 5.1 update 1 when the SQL database is remote and vCenter Server Heartbeat is installed

    Hi guys,.

I'm in the middle of an upgrade to vSphere 5.1 5.1 vSphere update 1. I have vCenter protected by HB and SQL on a separate computer (also protected by HB) I also run Syslog, Update Manager and Proxy authentication on vCenter.

I've successfully upgraded HB on all 4 nodes (2 x vCenter & 2 x SQL) and started the upgrade components on the secondary according to the •vCenter Server Heartbeat 6.5 server and vCenter Update 1 Installation on Windows Server 2008 when the secondary server is virtual (PDF) http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vcenter-server-heartbeat-65-u1-installation-windows-2008-virtual-guide.pdf

    I got to step 3.c

    3. change the primary/active server role:

a launch of the vCenter Server Heartbeat wizard configure server and click the tab of the Machine to change the server role for the current server (primary) to the active State and click Finish.

b using the Service Control Manager, start the Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter service.

c using the vCenter Server Heartbeat Console, check that all the status icons on the server: summary page are green indicating that the boot process is completed and protected from all the services are started.

d using the Service Control Manager, stop the service Server Heartbeat of VMware vCenter.

As the vCenter service does not start, I'm stuck at this point. As far as I'm concerned, the error is quite logical. I've updated vCenter using the secondary server, and then I'm trying to connect (according to the guide) with another version that breaks down.

If I continue with the services stop and launch the installer SSO, it is trying to perform an uninstall!

Did I miss something in this upgrade?

    Concerning

    Ciaran

Hi guys, VMware have finally updated the documentation to reflect the right way forward: https://www.vmware.com/support/pubs/heartbeat_pubs.html U1 6.5 Select from the menu drop-down and you'll see the last date of update for each of the documentation is now 10/10/2013. The guide States now specifically to restore the vCenter database before proceeding with any other measure, this is copied below for convenience: "the upgrade of the main server of the upgrade process further guess upgrading the secondary server completed successfully. Procedure 1 before continuing the upgrade process, perform a restore of the database of vCenter Server, Single Sign-On database, VMware Update Manager database and SSL certificates that were backed up in step 4 on the secondary server. regards Ciaran

  • vCenter Server and Manager on the same virtual machine and on the same host ESXi update that they manage

    Hi all

I have a question to which I did not respond.

I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?

Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?

    Thanks in advance.

It will not work.  You will need at least two hosts.  This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host.  From there, you can use VUM.  Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.

See below for patching a standalone host

  • Is it possible to run vCenter Server and AUVS in the same database?

Hello. My client has vCenter Server and VUM installed and running in the same database. Yes, the same database (not only same server database) and the same ODBC (ODBC VUM is 32-bit only).

My question is whether it is supported or not and I would like a source VMware information, not only "it works fine for me".

I can't find any definitive info on this VMware. Only something to wave in the installation and upgrade guides about or not to run in the same database ' ' (I guess they mean 'server') and it seems that the recommendation is to separate them for the 'large environments,' whatever that means.

The environment vSphere 4.1 is currently, and there are about 20 guests and 150 virtual machines.

If it is not supported, I guess the best way to go is to reinstall both from scratch?

    Thanks in advance!

    / Anders

Yes, it is a supported configuration.  Since VUM and vCenter using different tables, you can share the same DB

The database of the update manager that you use can be identical to the vCenter Server database. You can also use a
separate database, or you can use existing database clusters. For best results in a large scale environment, you
must use a dedicated Update Manager database that is located on one computer other than the
    the vCenter Server system database.

  • So many problems. I need to completely erase and start over. How?

I can't log into my bank but can on other computers or another browser. Google earth will not work. I want to completely install Firefox and start over, but when I try reloading all my settings with all the same problems. Refreshing doesn't work anymore. How can I get rid of all the parameters as if I never had Firefox and start over again?

Yes, your online banking is not up-to-date with the security.

Firefox (Mozilla) is generally well ahead of other browsers, when it comes to implementing the latest security designs.

  • How can I completely erase my macbook 6.1 HDD and start over?

I'm new to Mac OSx. For a long time PC user in time. I took an old macbook 6.1. How do I completely erase this HARD and start over?

    Thanks in advance!

You either need gray original install disks or a retail Snow Leopard disc http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

You start from the disc by inserting it and restart while holding the C key, choose your language and the next screen instead of click on install OS X you click the Utilities menu and select disk utility. Use utility disk to erase the hard drive then quit to return to the screen of the installer and install OS X. Then download and run the 10.6.8 combo updater download Mac OS X 10.6.8 v.1.1 Update after that, you will have access to the Mac App Store and can upgrade for free at El Capitan.

How can I restore my system XP to factory settings with on a boot disk? System Restore won't let me back to a date. I need to clean and start over with on a XP boot disk.

You will need to go on the manufacturer of your pc and then ask for a windows xp disk and drivers. This will give you a new copy, but not out of the box state. For an out of the box, get a recovery disk. Just answer what you want.

I found that Vista 64 bit works well on my computer, but many software packages that I wish to continue to use will not work on the 64-bit version.  Is there a form any upward migration of 64 bit to 32 bit, which would not require destroying my entire system and starting over?  I really want to do that because I spent the last 2 months, getting 64-bit set so that it accepts all of my hardware.  Except for an upward migration, what about the possibility of a dual boot between 64 and 32?

    Which? It's rare.

If you have a 64-bit version of Windows installation and you want to
to go to a 32-bit installation of any version of Windows, no. One
upgrade or downgrade is not possible. The only way to change the
'number of bits' of Windows using a clean installation.

Except for an upward migration, what about the possibility of a dual boot between 64 and 32?

    Sure. You can certainly do.

  • The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.
