The upgrade of hardware Dell XPS 15 (L502X)

Hello

I have a dell Inspiron 15R (l502x) bought 4.5 years back. I want to upgrade the laptop in any way possible. Here are my current features: i7 processor, 6 GB RAM, NVidia graphics card 525M, NIC Intel wireless N1030, 500GB HDD (improved to 1 TB).

What all can update this sheet? HARD drive is already updated, then I'll upgrade the network card, as my system does not support ca 802.11. I intend to improve with Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260.

What else can be changed? upgrade of the motherboard is needed to improve the system performance? Although the system handles everyday applications with occasional slowdown of the entire system. Yesterday, the idling system to a State where the audio was breaking.

Please let me know what all can be done.

Crucial to the States (and, if you purchase through its memory Configurator guaranteed) 16 G.

  • The upgrade of my Dell XPS 8300

    Hello

Currently, I use my Dell XPS 8300 with set up the following:

    • Intel core i7 - 2600 to 3.4 GHz
    • 8 GB RAM
    • GPU: Radeon HD 5770
    • PSU: 460W (AC460AD-00)

It has served me well but shows it's age while I was looking to upgrade the graphics card and the power supply if necessary. But this is the first time I did something like this then I'd some tips / warnings on the potential pitfalls before buying something.

After doing some background reading, I was thinking get a GTX 970 and upgrade the PSU, but I would like to know, questions, I could deal with that. I heard there were problems with XPS 8300 bios don't do not work well with graphics cards. I am currently on AO3, but there is no problem if necessary upgrade.

My budget is around £400-£500 if anyone knows the best ways to update my PC.

    Thank you.

Consider using this for now until you can buy new. Spending that much on unnecessary updates are not handy on a computer that is a few years old. You have a good installation now - 8 GB of ram, big power, i7 cpu that is best for your motherboard - as long as everything works. New computers can easily be purchased for what your budget allows for upgrades. The only thing to consider is a video card a little better that your power supply will take place as well as better control that you can use when you get a new computer. Ignore the upgrade of processor since that is not worth the expense or effort for minimal returns. You most likely impossible to switch the cpu to a newer version without replacing the motherboard. I would make sure to have the latest and probably last - bios A06.

I have a dell XPS 15.  Before a few days I started getting an error message: charger is plugged in but does not support.  Anyone have any ideas what it is?  Thanks in advance.

I tried to re install quickset64, but he did not change this problem.

I ask you all to out get me of this problem.

I had the same problem and I bought two batteries and always the same, I thought to buy new charger but goanna is to be too much for this stupid laptop. its cost very expensive like MAC but that nothing according to MAC and I got a new TOSHIBA with the same specifications that my i7 Dell XPS 15 L502X stupid, with the price less than $375 and is much more than Dell which never recommended by me to any.

If Dell respect his client and it is a respectful organization, should be remembered this point in the market and replacement with a new or to pay less. In this way, it will keep its reputation in a top.

  • Dell XPS 15 L502X restore Windows 10 to 8 - is not the disks

A few months, I installed Windows 10 back on my XPS 15 L502X. It seemed OK, but a bit clunky. Now I'm sick of it. It is so much slower, freeze things upwards, the Start button does not work, it takes forever to connect, webcam does not always work etc, etc.

So, I want to return Windows 8.1. In fact, I grew to love this OS. Problem is that I don't have the installation diskettes. I tried to get some via Dell website but it came to a bit of a dead end and I'm not sure if they will be provided after the expiration of the warranty.

Also, I don't seem to have an activation code on the case - is a problem.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

You can get Windows 8.1 by following the instructions here:

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=Is6I9B9kjFM&list=PL1RkaknDn7v9wEeh0YXFqOFsrmws-9fYn&index=1

    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/download-Windows-8-1-retail-and-OEM-ISO/

But the performance woes are likely due to the fact that you have made an initial upgrade installation. They always perform significantly worse. A clean install of Windows 10 TH2 will work much better:

  • Update hard disc on the special edition of Dell XPS-8900

Hello, I have a Dell XPS-8900 that I bought a few months ago, and you want to upgrade the hard drive.  There to 2, 7200 RPM hard drive + Cache SSD of 32 GB m2.  I noticed by looking at the disk management, it has 2 free sheet music; a 39 MB OEM Partition and 11.73 GB recovery Partition.  Both show that they are 100% free.  I created the recovery USB disk and it deleted the recovery Partition files.

Should I still have the Partition recovery or the OEM Partition?  When I switch to a new hard drive, is it possible to simply copy the partition of the OS?

Also, I thought that he would have an EFI System Partition.  Is that what I need or installation?

UEFI allows secure and start for 2 t boot partitions format: those are the two major differences, as well as the withdrawal of the restriction to have four primary partitions per disk.  Those who are not important here.

I don't think that there is a capacity limit on the m2 in height slot, but there is most likely a limitation of the physical size of the map itself which may restrict your ability.

You will get the best performance from the system running the operating system for one SSD drive for some.  You can easily find 2.5 "SATA SSD affordable up to 1 t in size now.  Drives 2.5 "tend to be less expensive than m2 format disks, although NVMe readers (whose prices are in the stratosphere), they are largely very reasonable in price for the exception.

I would not necessarily fear disks 3.5 "Toshiba - these are in large part the designs of Hitachi/HGST (Toshiba entered the market of disk 3,5 '' when WD resumed HGST - the Chinese Government opposed the consolidation to two manufacturers of records based in the United States and forced to WD to spin off plants making the disks 3.5" to Toshiba).  The HGST designs have a good reputation for reliability - much better than those of Seagate, for sure.

You are probably better off with a straight on the clone of the drive.  You can use the Windows Disk Administrator to change the partitions later.  I had the good luck of late with Macrium Reflect (free), but Acronis image works well - and Samsung provides a free version of it if you choose one of their SSDS.

  • Upgrade SSD for Dell XPS 15 9550

    Hello

I have Dell XPS 9550 with configuration 32 GB SSD + 500 GB HARD disk. I want to upgrade SSD for more space avaliablity.

But I don't know what type of SSD, I'll need to buy. Also, I read XPS 15 to repair. There are two chapter for the removal and replacement of the SSD in the maintenance manual. First chapter of half-length SSD, second chapter SSD full length.

What type of SSD is mounted in my laptop? Half or full length?

How can I identify necessary SSD for me in stores (dimensions, label, etc.)?

What interface for SSD do I need?  PCIE or SATA?

What is the map? M2.2280 or PCI-E AIC (-expansion card)?

    Thanks in advance!

These are all numbers of Dell and descriptions.

The system uses a PCIe (or is if you want a faster player), 2280 m2 or small size.  UNLESS you buy directly from Dell, it is best NOT to buy versions OEM of SSD (Samsung end pieces in a '1' vs '0' for details).

OEM spare parts are usually not compatible to end-users by the manufacturer.

Because you will probably install the operating system for the new SSD, don't forget to make a recovery media set, you need to load the operating system on the larger capacity disk - what you have now is just a cache for the main hard drive.

  • How can I find a copy of windows 7 for dell Xps 15 (L502X)

    Hello evryone...
I have a dell xps (l502X) lap top... it's operating system (Windows 7 Home peremium) resulted in a mistake... and there is now no thereon oparating system, and I have no backup dist to restore it... My question is: there were can I download my lap top operating system?
    Tanks

You misunderstood what George wrote.  Dells have a "factory restore Partition" and reinstalling Windows procedure that is described in the manual of your PC.  For example, here is an excerpt from the mine-

Reference Dell Factory Image Restore [excerpt from manual for Dell Inspiron 1545]
    1. turn on the computer.
2 when the Dell logo appears, press several times to access the Advanced Boot Options window.
Note: If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop; then, shut down your computer and try again.
    3. Select repair your computer.  The System Recovery Options window appears.
    4. Select a keyboard layout and click Next.
    5. to access the recovery options, log in as a local user. To access the command prompt, type administrator in the user name field, and then click OK.
    6. click on Dell Factory Image Restore. The Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears.
Note: Depending on your configuration, you may need to select Dell, then Dell Factory Image Restore factory tools.
    7. click on next. Data delete screen is displayed.
Note: If you do not wish to continue Factory Image Restore, click Cancel.
    8. check the box to confirm that you want to continue reformatting the hard drive and restoring the system software to the factory condition, then click Next.  The restore process begins and may take five or more minutes. A message appears when the operating system and the applications installed in the factory have been restored to the State of the plant.
    9. click Finish to restart the system.

You can find this information for your model on the Dell support website [through www.dell.com ] If you have thrown the manual of your PC and don't have any pdf copy of it.

The manual of your PC will also be instructions for creating a set of "Recovery disc" and do this after the factory restore.

In addition, the backup utility provided with Dells [mine is DataSafe Local, but that may have changed] has the ability to create a USB bootable from the "factory restore Partition" so that you can deal with a hard disk failure in the future.  So do because it is a valuable tool [an insurance against future problems] - they advised me to use a 16 GB USB key, but the image is only 6.2 GB so I could use a 8 GB USB key instead.

Palcouk is also correct.  All this which may or may not have been provided with your purchase, Dell will provide a floppy disk to install OEM of Windows 7 on demand - the load is small, I think [I think I saw a post about it being $30].

  • Power supply upgrade for my Dell XPS 8100?

I'm looking to upgrade my Dell XPS 8100 power OEM 350W at a minimum 550W power supply so I can install a Blu - Ray reader & writer drive, & so I can replace the ATi Radeon HD 5570 1 GB GDRR5 graphics card with 2 GB or 4 GB of GDDR5. What would be a good power supply for my computer?

    Here are my specs:

    Intel Core i7-870,

    16 GB of DDR3 Ram(was 8GB but I upgraded to 16GB),

    HD 1.5 TB,

    ATi Radeon HD 5570 1 GB GDDR5.

In addition, this card will work fine with my computer:

& What will be a good Blu - Ray burner for my computer which is not too expensive?

    It's my computer right now:

Here's a post that details what the size fits:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19483753

    But...

740 GT is not much faster that the Radeon 5570 then this isn't much of an upgrade. What do you who needs 4 GB of RAM - V?

Have you watched a 4 GB GTX 750 ti? Much faster...

    www.newegg.com/.../Product.aspx

If you go with a GT 740, according to me, he can use less energy than the 5570, and if you buy a 'green' BluRay burner, it can use less energy than your current optical drive.

  • Using the system on a Dell XPS 13 restore

I have a Dell XPS 13 purchased this year. I am interested in installing Ubuntu (the image of Sputnik or vanilla 12.04). I'm working on how I could restore the original image of Windows 8. I created a restore USB drive but I can't find useful information about how to use the restore disc. How can I boot the disk so that it can restore my system?

I would also like to keep my partitions recovery and restore of partitions. Is this possible? I tried to access the startup recovery programs upward but can't find any restore options.

System recovery without using Windows on Dell XPS 13 seems to be a feature not documented - can someone help me?

(Otherwise I am very satisfied with the machine.)

not sure, but I think that this video can enlighten us on what's going on?

    cs_setInnerHtml ('video_db9c0568-d9d6-4cde-8e1f-cb630ec42ab8', ");

Apparently, you must disable secure startup before trying to boot from the restore disc...

  • The upgrade of hardware "Point limits."

I have read a number of posts on the topic of upgrading equipment, and always one already exists (Windows).  I went through a "test" with this before, and I would like to have someone competent after what is the current situation really at the present time.

My computer is the one that I built myself (not a "store bought" a) parts purchased locally and online.  I am running Win 7 Home Edition, and I have the Windows 7 upgrade disk.  I use a Foxconn MB and an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor.    I'm maxed out on RAM (to 2 GB) and the BIOS is years.  I want to upgrade to a new MB and a newer processor and of course, add more RAM. (I did take my decision quite yet, but I'll probably buy an another Foxconn MB and AMD Athlon II X 2 3.4 GHz processor.)   I intend to keep my DVD burner case, PSU, existing Tower (SATA) and drive HARD (SATA).  (I can add a second HDD and dedicate it to my music files, but it is undecided.)

Last winter, I upgraded my wife's computer, but more broadly.  I bought a new case and added almost everything is new, but has attempted to use his HDD existing (with Win 7 Home Edition Upgrade) because the HARD drive was brand new and had plenty of space.  But when I tried to start, it wouldn't allow it, and after a few posts online, it was determined that the cause was "too new hardware."  I followed some of the suggestions post and called Microsoft to have Win 7 reactivated, but was told it couldn't be done.  That's when I discovered the 'points' system, but when I tried to get the detailed information on this subject, they would not give it.  In fact, a representative simply hung up - and I was not be rude, just by asking details, thinking that maybe I could 'reverse' and use a few pieces that I had deleted computer existing my wife temporarily and then complete the upgrade at a later date.  But no information has been forthcoming. I ended up buying a new HARD drive, install of Win XP (from the software disk it had before the upgrade to Windows 7) and only qualified to purchase the download to win 8 'special' happening last winter.

I would really like to know from someone about what will happen with my computer if I swap on the MB and CPU, then add memory.  Everything else will remain intact.  Is that it will exceed the limit of Points, and I'm having the same situation?  If something has changed with the activation of the phone for Windows, that they would allow me to reactivate?  I'm not trying to rip off Microsoft or anyone using the same software on multiple computers. The parts that I take out (MB & CPU & memory sticks) travels to the heap to recycle instead of sanitation of our city.  But I'm not looking to use the same software on several computers, last winter, either, and that has not worked...

All comments on how things work at the present time will be appreciated.  Thank you.

If the original Windows 7 disks are full retail, you can install them on the new PC using the key code provided with the disks.

    Computer re to your wife...

If she bought in-store, operating system would have been linked to the original motherboard BIOS, that's why you had problems with the new installation of the motherboard.

    Points to note.

Retail operating systems can be installed any time it takes, but if the frequency is more than once every six months, you may have some explaining to do... :-)

Installing Windows can be on the hard disk, but it is the motherboard that is the computer...
