The upgrade of hardware "Point limits."

I have read a number of posts on the topic of upgrading equipment, and always one already exists (Windows).  I went through a "test" with this before, and I would like to have someone competent after what is the current situation really at the present time.

My computer is the one that I built myself (not a "store bought" a) parts purchased locally and online.  I am running Win 7 Home Edition, and I have the Windows 7 upgrade disk.  I use a Foxconn MB and an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor.    I'm maxed out on RAM (to 2 GB) and the BIOS is years.  I want to upgrade to a new MB and a newer processor and of course, add more RAM. (I did take my decision quite yet, but I'll probably buy an another Foxconn MB and AMD Athlon II X 2 3.4 GHz processor.)   I intend to keep my DVD burner case, PSU, existing Tower (SATA) and drive HARD (SATA).  (I can add a second HDD and dedicate it to my music files, but it is undecided.)

Last winter, I upgraded my wife's computer, but more broadly.  I bought a new case and added almost everything is new, but has attempted to use his HDD existing (with Win 7 Home Edition Upgrade) because the HARD drive was brand new and had plenty of space.  But when I tried to start, it wouldn't allow it, and after a few posts online, it was determined that the cause was "too new hardware."  I followed some of the suggestions post and called Microsoft to have Win 7 reactivated, but was told it couldn't be done.  That's when I discovered the 'points' system, but when I tried to get the detailed information on this subject, they would not give it.  In fact, a representative simply hung up - and I was not be rude, just by asking details, thinking that maybe I could 'reverse' and use a few pieces that I had deleted computer existing my wife temporarily and then complete the upgrade at a later date.  But no information has been forthcoming. I ended up buying a new HARD drive, install of Win XP (from the software disk it had before the upgrade to Windows 7) and only qualified to purchase the download to win 8 'special' happening last winter.

I would really like to know from someone about what will happen with my computer if I swap on the MB and CPU, then add memory.  Everything else will remain intact.  Is that it will exceed the limit of Points, and I'm having the same situation?  If something has changed with the activation of the phone for Windows, that they would allow me to reactivate?  I'm not trying to rip off Microsoft or anyone using the same software on multiple computers. The parts that I take out (MB & CPU & memory sticks) travels to the heap to recycle instead of sanitation of our city.  But I'm not looking to use the same software on several computers, last winter, either, and that has not worked...

All comments on how things work at the present time will be appreciated.  Thank you.

If the original Windows 7 disks are full retail, you can install them on the new PC using the key code provided with the disks.

Computer re to your wife...

If she bought in-store, operating system would have been linked to the original motherboard BIOS, that's why you had problems with the new installation of the motherboard.

Points to note.

Retail operating systems can be installed any time it takes, but if the frequency is more than once every six months, you may have some explaining to do... :-)

Installing Windows can be on the hard disk, but it is the motherboard that is the computer...

Hard shut down the virtual using the vSphere client. If it does not migrate all other virtual machines off the coast of the host, then turn off the host. When you restart the host, you should be able to remove the virtual machine as the processes that are running against her will have stopped.

  • Migration of VMS of vsphere 5.0 and 5.5. The virtual computer hardware should be upgraded?

We have a few virtual machines to a roommate with a newer version of vsphere. Are there benefits to upgrading in addition what is listed in the link below? We have really no need for the maximum ram or cpu upgrades. I thought that now version 8 virtual machines should be fine, unless there is a major performance improvement or other reason to upgrade to 10.

Hardware features available with the Virtual Machine compatibility settings

You are on point with your comments. There is no need to upgrade to version 10, you if you don't need. This is why VMware is now calling VM Compatibility virtual rather than physical level. This is to remove the pressure of always trying to follow with the virtual hardware.

By experience, I find the upgrade virtual hardware, one of the scariest parts of any upgrade project. Ive met a lot question after her that is why it is always recommended to create a snapshot prior to an update of the virtual hardware. Its the only way to restore.

  • tools and hardware upgrades through the update after the upgrade Manager

If I run a base line to upgrade tools and equipment of vmware, then choose restore, is a clever enough Update Manager to make tools first and then perform the upgrade of hardware vm? I have a few machines I moved from 4.1 to 5.1 and the two operations must be made. I don't know if I have to do both together or separately.

This logic is incorporated in the Update Manager if you use grouping Baseline: basically, create a group with the material and baselines Tools, join group reference VM (s) that interest you and to fix. Otherwise, you can make sanitation through autonomous base lines - in this case, you would need address first, then hardware tools.

  • Problem with the mouse and the network after the upgrade VMware Tools and hardware to virtual machine

    Hello world...

I just upgrade my ESX 3.5 servers to vSphere 4.1. All this work is very well with the upgrade right now.

After that, I tried to mise a niveau of VMware Tools and hardware of VM for my virtual machine and the problems started.

I tried with two different VM (the two Windows 2003) and the problem appears for the two VM.

I don't want to test another VM of the different operating system now, I'm afraid to go too far with update of Pentecost the problem I have now.

I tried two VM to be sure that the problem is not only on a virtual machine.

    First of all, the mouse.

My mouse has jerky movement. The button works, but sometimes I have to click several times to select what I want.

I tried to uninstall the mouse in Device Manager and reinstall, but not really Pentecost improvement which (buttons works better, but... not so sure).

    Second problem.

After you restart the server after VMmware tools and hardware virtual machine, the network link not working anymore.

When I go to my network card configuration, IP settings are reset in DHCP mode.

If I go again all my IP settings, Windows says:

The IP address is hidden from the network and Dial-up connections

folder because it is not physically in the computer or is a riser

It does not work. If the same address is assigned to both adapters and

they become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result

in the incorrect system configuration. You want to enter a different IP address

address of this adapter in the list of IP addresses for this card in the list

Advanced IP address in the dialog box

If I answer Yes to this, I have to enter a new IP address, and of course, this is not what I want to do.

If I don't answer, the network working again.

I think it is a strange message but the work of the vSphere maybe network now.

Anyone have any idea why my work network and mouse as this upgrade after.

All other VM that is not upgraded so far works great.

    Thanks in advance...

    (1) make sure that your hardware acceleration is safe enough. I got the upgrade down my hardware acceleration several times already.

    (2) sounds like the new drivers for your NIC cards took over and VMware is basically a new card NETWORK for you. Follow these steps to disable it:

    (a) open a command prompt

    (b) type (without quotes): 'set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1' and press ENTER.

    (c) type (without the quotes): "start devmgmt.msc"

  • Error: The installer cannot set Windows XP required configuration information during the upgrade to Windows XP Home SP3 of Windows XP Pro.

Original title: OEM Windows XP Home SP3 update XP Pro

Here is a compilation of the messages from another forum regarding
    My problem:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I'm trying to upgrade a Windows XP Home Sp3 OEM system to
Windows XP Pro. (There are a few Pro features
that are not available in the House I now need: (1) the files offline and
    (2) an add-on available for free to Onenote 2007, Top2onenote, requires a Pro).
I don't want a clean install, but an upgrade. I bought a Windows XP Pro
Upgrade CD on Ebay that was Windows XP Pro
Gold (v2002). I'm sure that's true for the following reasons:

It has been listed as an upgrade, but the CD is not labeled "Upgrade".
It seems very authentic with all Microsoft holography.
He came in the standard package of Windows XP (without box),
    and it was sealed.
The name of volume for the CD is WXPFPP_EN. The Internet,.
It is the retail of Windows XP Pro RTM (gold)!

Here are things I tried initially.

    (1) I tried to upgrade to Pro from the purchased CD. It is immediately
has refused to upgrade indicating the upgrade OS (Pro) is older than the
    installed OS (home)...

    (2) I read about "slipstreaming". "Slipstreaming" allows to integrate
a service pack with an earlier version of the operating system. I created a
upgrade XP Pro SP3 with Nlite slipstreamed CD image (and
Autostreamer later, but it made no difference) from the purchased CD
    and a file containing SP3.

After you burn the CD and start the upgrade
    (Windows installation), the upgrade process
    product through "information collection."
"Dynamic update" and "Preparation of Installation" with
no problems. My computer restarted and returned to
"Installation preparation". A progress bar called 'Progress '.
quickly filled to about 90% and the hanging system
at that time there for about 15 minutes.
Then, I got the following error message:

Setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration
information. This indicates an internal Setup error.

This is where I am stuck. I had to leave the installation at this point.
My drive is starts raining and I had to restore a backup.

    (3) just for the heck of it, I formatted my hard drive and
reinstalled my original OEM XP Home SP3 OS (no clean up, no user file).
I immediately used my XP CD slipstreamed Pro to try one
upgrade to XP Pro and IT WORKED! I need to find out why the
properly clean XP Home OS upgraded to XP Pro but my pre-existing
(with the files users, drivers, etc..) XP Home OS does not level
    successfully to XP Pro.
    -------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

Yet once, today, I installed a new copy of OEM Windows XP Home Sp3.
I continue with installation of all the essential and the add-on
pilots (essentially all my original version). Then, I
set up a network connection and firewall. With this configuration,.
I ran the Pro XP slipstreamed SP3 CD. The upgrade to XP Pro
success (even if the upgrade not configured my graphics
card properly). I guess my current problem is either the registry,
the WINDOWS, some user file or parameter file.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    Another post:

I made a file and the backup of the folder C:\Windows folder
on my system that is pre-existing (OEM XP Home Sp3). I also did a
separate the backup the State of the 'system' on my pre-existing system.
These are added my full image backup of her pre-existing
    system a month ago.

I did a backup image of my system (minimum fees OEM XP Home
SP3 with all the original installed drivers over a network configured
connection and a firewall configured). This system will upgrade
XP Pro with XP Pro SP3 slipstreamed CD successfully.

    Experiment 1:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the C:/Windows folder
and the State of the pre-existing system backup system. A startup
has managed (with a minor irritant). I had to activate Windows.
Then, I tried upgrading the slipstreamed XP Pro processor. He stopped
at the same place during the upgrade and gave the same error as before:

Setup cannot set the required configuration information Windows XP.
This indicates an internal Setup error.

    Experiment 2:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored the system state only
the backup of the pre-existing system. After startup I was asked to
activate Windows, but answer Yes to the question would be to disconnect me
the system. I couldn't get connected to try the XP Pro upgrade.

    Experience 3:

I've restored my minimum system. I then restored only the C:/Windows
the backup of the pre-existing system folder. Once again, as in experiment 1,
the upgrade failed at the same place with the same error message.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Before the experiment 3, I hoped that 3 experience would succeed so I
could conclude that I had a registry problem. I'm not sure now.
I don't know what to try next. Take the minimum system and reinstalling
my files of the user is not an option that my hard drive has over 200 GB of
programs! If I restore all files and folders of my pre-existing
I would still have backup to restore a system state the reliable (read the registry).
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the length! If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your responses.

    Thank you

  • Windows 7 Ultimate (MVP version) for the upgrade of windows 10

I read here on the forums that depending on your version (selling retail or OEM), your upgrade to Windows 10 license will be allowed to transfer to a future computer with new hardware or we will be limited to current pc hardware.

I have a version of Windows 7 Ultimate MVP, is - retail or OEM?

I would like to know because I want to buy new hardware (CPU, mobo, vidcard etc) in 2016.

Depending on the response, it might be interesting for me to wait for the Windows Update until next year and buy new hardware before July 29, 2016.

If the upgrade of Windows 10 has the rights to transfer to a new material based on the version of Windows 7 Ultimate MVP, do I need to install the version of Windows 7 first before the upgrade again to 10 Windows on a new pc?

Given that the "'free update is based on your current version of Windows 7 and is linked to your current hardware, you will need to re - install Windows 7 on your new hardware and then upgrade to Windows 10 GWX icon before July 29, 2016.

  • The upgrade of FWSMs pair of failover

Due to the bug, we are modernizing our pair of double chassis FWSM tipping from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4. I want to minimize service disruptions, can someone point me to some documents or to explain briefly the best process. 2.2 documentation it appears I can pass between the maintenance release while retaining the functionality of failover, this was the case with 1.1? Or is the "replacement of failover unit after hardware failure' the best method for a unit of failover eventhough not missed?

The doc in FWSM 2.2 for the replacement of the faulty module can serve as a guideline.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/partner/products/HW/modules/ps2706/products_tech_note09186a0080531753.shtml

But as stated in the FAQ FWSM - failover for ver 1.1 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/modules/ps2706/products_qanda_item0900aecd800fa578.shtml), this may be your case. FWSM ver2.2 running offer more flexibility and minimize downtime with the features of "upgrade online. This feature is not available in code 1.1.x.

Therefore, when you perform the upgrade. restart both FWSM modules are inevitable, but at least with a minimum off time (time required for the module get online and work).

What you can do is to 'break' the FWSM before the failover process and perform the upgrade. Repeat the same process for the two blades. See the attachment for details instruction.
