  • I ran the upgrade wizard. I'm still not sure what it means

    Hello

Preamble: I'm not tech savvy, please he dumb down for me.

I ran the upgrade wizard and I'm still not sure if the upgrade is a good idea. I need to know whether or not it is compatible before moving with her.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, running Windows Vista.

    Some issues that came:

Install an application to play DVDs, Sidebar gadgets are not supported, secure boot is not compatible, your screen resolution is not compatible.

I checked my screen and higher resolution, it goes up to is 1280 X 800. I tried to watch promotional videos for Windows 8, but the video does not work yet. The color was off, the sound was very good.

What does that mean? Windows still work? What should I do to make sure that I can still do normal things?

I do not know. You will need to check with the Upgrade Wizard of Windows 7, then check the manufacturer's website.

My old Vista was not able to upgrade to Windows 7 (Toshiba).

Upgrade Advisor advised me to some questions, and then I went to the Toshiba site and was informed any way uncertain "not compatible".

If you want to switch from Vista to Windows 7 - check

    Three points:

    1. If you do an upgrade, not a new installation, you should lose
    nothing.

    2. When you take an important step, as an upgrade from versions of Windows,
There is always a risk that something can go wrong. So it is always
careful to make sure you have a current external backup of all
    important for you.

    3. If you do not have what you need to make an external backup, you
playing with fire. Almost everyone should be back up regularly. He
is always possible that a hard drive crash, user error, nearby

the loss of everything on your drive. As it has often been said, it is not
a question of whether you will have a problem, but when.

Original title: __lost my microsoft photo program when I tried to download the upgrade to essentials

I tried to download the new update essentials download and three quarters of the way through, he stopped.
The download was already about this. He said then; "put everything back as it was" when he did. I have
lost my photo program. It now gives you a nag screen which keeps comeing like:

    Error loading C\program can windows live \photo gallery\WLXphoto Gallery\
    WLXPhotoViewer.dll

The system cannot find message for message number 0 X %1 in the message file

After starting, the system leaves me alone until I try to open a j - peg or some file im trying to open.
then the cycle starts again. further investigation, saying that I lost a dll.

I tried to find microsoft photo viewer download to try to repair the photo of microsoft program and concluded that the
only way I can do that is by downloading the essential upgrade download because it is attached to it.
In order to accept the upgrade, the photo program should probably be repaired, as a thought as microsoft solve this Center says there is no problem. all other articles on the net is also not related or doesnot show how to fix the missing dll if it is the problem.

In addition to the steps proposed by Ajay, you could try and download and reinstall all Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011.

    Shailesh

    Hello!

I put really know why this happened, but to be honest, in my opinion 15GB or 16GB are not enough for Vista!

On my second Toshiba laptop running Vista, I need 30 GB for Vista installation and all my programs. I n t installed many programs, only programs that I use really (desktop, Skype, ICQ, Photoshop, AntiVir, VideoLAN, etc.) and those 30 GB are only for programs not data! I stored my documents, pictures, etc. on the second partition.

So in my opinion you should have at least 40 GB for Vista. If this isn't the case, you must upgrade the HARD drive.

  • Wizard upgrade said platform not supported on the upgrade of windows 8 on xp pro 32 market sp 3

Hi all, it drives me crazy.

A month ago I went to install the upgrade of windows 8 on my current xp pro, at that time, put assistant level said no problem, I downloaded (and paid) the upgrade and then everything went to hell.  I ended up having to clean my original xp install to get the computer back in working order.
Now, I decided to try again with the update (using the same product key, I tried to install with last month) so I went back to my email, write down the product key and click the link to download it again, but this time he wont even let me try.  As soon as the implementation or the Upgrade Wizard works, I immediately the message that "this platform is not supported" and that's what I get.
As I said, I'm running a clean version of Windows XP Pro 32 with SP 3.  Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thank you very much.

I just checked the BIOS settings and the XD card was already activated.

The first time I started the upgrade wizard, which told me that I could indeed be upgraded, then I downloaded the upgrade and installed it.  I had some problems with the download, but nothing that was not easy to fix (I honestly don't remember exactly what the problem was).  Once the installation was apparent complete, I rebooted the computer when you are prompted and I got an error message that the installation has failed and then told me that the computer would come back on my original os.  After a few moments, I received a message that the computer failed to return to the operating system, and the computer restarted and gave me the option to boot windows 8 or windows xp.  I have tried both and neither is feasible.  After trying both, I got a new screen that says my computer need of repair.  I then re installed xp, clean boot from the floppy disk to return back at the beginning and have a computer working again. After all that, I reinstalled all the necessary updates and realized when I tried the original installation, I did turn sp2, but not sp 3 so this time I made sure to get that taken care of first.  And now, well you know where I am now!
    Thank you

  • DBUA fails with errors during the upgrade of 10 g and 11 g

    Hello

    I have a Solaris 10 machine running Oracle 10 g (10.2.0) and one instance of 10g running.
I have installed Oracle 11 g, created a new profile for the user oracle BONE (with ORACLE_HOME, PATH etc.) updated for the 11.1.0 values, I ran the utlu111i.sql tool from the directory of 11 g pre-upgrade.

    Hello

In a normal upgrade, I guess the oratab the 10.2.0 instance at the beginning, then it is updated once the database instance is upgraded - I'm wrong?

Yes you are right. But I also faced same issue then the upgrade to version 10.2.0.4 for 11.1.0.7 database in ERP apps 11i. I changed the entry in oratab and upgrade completed successfully.

  • Upgrade Wizard indicates the active partition is compressed

    Hello

I have a MSI Netbook running Windows 7 Starter and want to go to Windows 10.

I run the upgrade wizard that tells me the current active partition is compressed.

I checked in the management of the computer - I have:

    Recovery partition - 8.35 GB

Active, the recovery Partition - 100 MB

    Boot, page file, crash dump, primary Partition - 173,79 GB - OS_Install (c :))

    Primary partition - 115,86 GB - Data (d :))

All are listed as single - base; C: and D: are NTFS; the other two have no file system listed.

None of the partitions are indicating as "compressed". In Solution Explorer, I have the opportunity to make compressed (thus taken as it is 'uncompressed').

All sitting on a WD 320 GB drive (289.1 GB used by partitions).

I do not have access to any partition other than C: and D: and I imagine wouldn't upgrade.

So why I said that the current active partition is compressed.

I notice that I could make C: partition Active - but what effect would it have on the boot and the functioning of the netbook?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I notice that I could make C: partition Active - but what effect would it have on the boot and the functioning of the netbook?

Not a good thing. Unless you run the following command as an administrator before:

    BCDboot C:\Windows /s C:

the copy of your 'System reserved' start-up files in C: this way.

  • Use the HP upgrade wizard disk?

Have seen a few posts that it is better NOT to use the HP upgrade wizard disk. Have seen the messages the disck Upgrade Wizard disables some programs/features and all the necessary drivers are available on the HP site.  Instead, we should just update directly from the Windows 7 disc.  Should you use the upgrade wizard disk?

    ewrayjr,

The upgrade wizard will uninstall some programs that are not compatible with Windows 7 and the replacement by versions of Windows 7 compatible, for example Norton Internet Security.  It will contain also most (if not all) of the drivers that you will need for your PC.

The upgrade wizard is highly recommended for a smooth upgrade process.
