The Vista backup failure

I am running Vista Home Premium and have been using the backup and Restore Center for weekly scheduled backups. I noticed that I get messages when I log on saying that Microsoft Windows backup has stopped working. However, the incremental backups always to be at the agreed time. I have just deleted a backup set and went to start a new backup set, and now I get the same message:

Backup Microsoft Windows has stopped working, then he's looking for a solution that does not, and then told me "a problem caused blocking the program works correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. "I have to click on the button - close the program. She did this whenever I try to start a new backup set and I #m using an external USB hard drive that has plenty of space for what I want to do.

Any ideas - can't seem to find the answer that way.

Thank you

4. If he once said: "Automatic", then click on the "Recovery" tab in the upper part and replace the line "First failure" "Restart the Service", then click on ""apply ', then OK. "

  • Help me understand the Vista backup

I just started using Vista backup to backup my PC to an external hard drive.  There are several things I want to ask about the Vista Backup utility.

    1. with many other backup programs (by example, utility backup Windows XP), I was able to review what files were backed up, because the utility has a provision for the display of files saved in their original folder structure.  This is useful for manual checking that a group of files have been backed up.

With Vista backup, there is no provision.  The backup is stored in a number of ZIP files, with no apparent match to the source folder structure.

Is there another way to view files saved in their original Vista backup folder structure?

    2. I recently did a second backup of my hard drive Vista.  I have added almost all the files.  In fact, most of the changes have been moving and renaming of audio files.  Yet, the second backup is larger than the first, each approximately 20 GB.  And it took a long time, like the first.  Ultimately, the TWO backups were kept in separate folders dated.

    My questions:
    a. Why is the second big backup?  Can I apply an incremental, or differential backup as it existed under XP?  If you tell me that it's already a differential backup, then why is it so important and take so long?

    b. I must keep each date of the backup folder?  If so, my external hard drive is quickly running out of room!  But if I remove it, maybe I'll lose data!  Please help me understand how Vista backups are cataloged.

    Thank you.

The second backup is great because because you moved your files autour and so backup if they were different files. Vista backup only new or modified files after the first backup.

If you open the file, you will be able to access all the saved files and delete those you don't need.

  • Can I recover the Vista backup specific file types?

Ok. So I got a little happy relaxation of night last night and accidentally deleted all my music on iTunes, instead of just compensation for the library.

Fortunately, I made a back-up week last using the Vista Backup Wizard, so I have nothing to lose forever.

Question is, when I perform backup restore, can I just pick up music or will it also try and retrieve all my photos and documents too? I use Vista Home Premium 32 bit and backup to an external HARD disk.

When you perform the recovery process, you can select what you want - it will give you this option as your use of the procedure.  I don't know if this can be done by file type (I doubt it), but it can be done by selecting the files and/or folders specifically.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

You use an incremental update strategy of backup.  This attempts to update the full backup on the disk.  The error here is that the data UNDOTBS1 file is NOT in the database backup on the disk (in the FLASH_RECOVERY_AREA).  Bottom line: all your backups are useless without this data file in the backup.

    Hi Erieite,

    1. which edition of Windows Vista you are using?

    2. What do you mean by saying Vista family?

    3. what happens when you try to download Sp1? You receive messages or error codes?

Backup recovery discs or Windows Vista discs are supplied by the manufacturer of the system containing a backup of the original factory condition or a favorable condition of a computer as that set up by the manufacturer of the system. This media is usually comes with most computers to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. If you use the Vista backup drive, it will delete everything on the system. You should back up important data before making any major changes on the system.

If you receive a prompt to install the Vista SP1, then you must download and install the same. It will not be provided with the Windows Vista backup drive.

I suggest that you perform the following steps to solve the problem of installation of SP1.

  • [NMH300] Try to use Vista backup, but what is the name of user and password to drive Z?

I use the pole NMH300 media and I want to create a backup process this file copies on drive Z (media Division) and Vista backup invites me for the username and password for the drive Z, which is funny because I never enter a username or password to access this disk , and the more I use a password only to access the media hub File Explorer but I've never had to enter a user name.  What Miss me?

    Thanks in advance.

The utility of backup Vista encrypts the data on the hard drive using the security feature of NTFS format and I think it will not be able to do that if you go back up to the mediahub since its already a different device with a different file for its Reader format. Vista Backup utility is intended only then to NTFS formatted disks so that it can encrypt/secure data being saved. Just use the NTI Shadow backup tool to backup your files, it's a good tool.

  • Windows Vista backup on the external drive stopped working

I have a LaCie 750 GB hard drive external (total size 698 GB) who I've been saving my drive C and D to a Dell XPS 410 using Vista Home Premium software.  He contended until the end with a backup automated on-demand for once a week.  He performed the backup 30 times since 11/09/09, but sometimes did so sometimes (shorter range) other than the weekly on-demand.  When I compare the total size with the free space on the external drive and my drives C and D, the amount of used space is respectively 131 GB, 5,11 GB and GB 665,5.  I am not very computer savvy, but if the backup program backs up only what of new each time, why used on my external drive space is so superior to what is still on my C and D drive?  I assumed that the backup software would just copy the previous backup, each time that a new backup or write on the oldest backup, but apparently is not.  So now all I get are messages saying that the backup was not successful because a file was in use or something to that effect.  I'm doing something wrong or do I have to reformat the hard drive external when it is "full" to start the backup of my computer again?

    Hello

Your assumption is correct. Cross check if a new backup is created and saved in the external hard drive. If a new backup is not too write the old backup, the use of the space will be very high.

Two particularly useful automatic backup features are the ability to do a scheduled backup and the ability to save your files.
We recommend that you cross check if backup settings are intact. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. click on change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-and-restore-frequently-asked-questions

You get the error message, unplug the external drive and restart the computer. Connect the hard drive and check if you get the error message.

  • Vista backup cannot reuse the same flash drive

How can I reuse my flash drive to another backup? Vista knows it has been used before, even if I deleted the old backup.
    thanx

    Hi Joy77,

Is there anything else being stored on another flash drive backups? Otherwise, you might save a few headaches and just format your drive.

    Warning

    • Formatting a volume will destroy all data on the partition. Be sure to make backups of all the data to save before you begin.

    • You cannot format a disk or partition that is currently in use, including the partition that contains Windows.

    • Quick format is a formatting option that creates a new file table, but do not completely overwrite or erase the volume. A quick format is much faster than a normal format, which fully erases the existing data on the volume.

    1. Open Computer Management by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools and then double-click computer management.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    2. In the Navigation pane, under storage, click Disk Management.

    3. Right-click the volume you want to format and then click on format.

    4. To format the volume with the default settings in the dialog box format, click OK, and then click OK again.

For more information about the formatting of a partition, see create and format a hard disk partition.

  • cold backup can use archivelog to recover the database to the point of failure?

    Hello

I have little doubts. In any DB saying we have following conditions:

    (1) DB is running in ARCHIVELOG mode.
    (2) cold backup is performed every Sunday.
    (3) no backups hot or the RMAN backup is taken.

so if any failure occurs during the week say Friday. can recover us our database to the point of failure with cold backup? If yes then pls specify the steps how to do it.

Archiving log could apply on cold backup?

    Thank you
    Shailesh

Yes. Just make sure that you use "with the HELP of BACKUP CONTROLFILE' so that Oracle ignores the sequence numbers and the SNA in the controlfile and guard"rolling-forward"until the last archivelog that provide you.
If you have not lost all over again the logs files and want a complete recovery, you must provide log redo file names "as if they have been archived" after applying the last archivelog. This way, you will be able to achieve a complete recovery.
Of course, you will need to OPEN RESETLOGS.
