The Windows Installer corrupt in XP

I uninstalled unnecessary programs like very slow system - XP Home Ed - and seem to have corrupted the Windows Setup program. Now he continues to come and do other software either close or so slow. Looked at the so-called free download fixers who then want me to pay. I dunno much about inside the computers either thanks Matylda

Sounds to me like you have a virus, a corrupt or missing Windows install would not prevent the execution of your software or make the computer run more slowly, you don't even know anything about it being corrupt or missing until you tried to install the software.  These "false" errors are usually caused by viruses or other parasites such.  Don't pay for any fixers for this kind of problems, they will not solve anything, they are mostly all nothing that scams to steal your hard earned money!

Try to run these malware removal tools and see if they do anything:

    Hello Lowki11,

You can also try a System File Checker to see if you have corrupted system files.

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any violation of the integrity and repair any damaged operating system files.

    Reboot your system.

    I hope this helps.

A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your provider staff or the support package!

I also received his message - Launch4j - makes registry reference to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupted.  The system cannot find the path specified

Help!  I tried to download the version of Windows Installer 4.5, but the website tells me that I don't need. I thought that the download would overwrite what is installed on my computer and load the missing file!

Not sure if it is a Java problem, a problem Windows or Firefox...

I've corrected the Launch4J message by changing the values of JavaSoft registry keys:

    Start RegEdit
Open this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit
Expand void keys and change all values your current value of JAVA_HOME JavaHome.

If you have installed the Java SDK in C:\Program Files\Oracle\6 then use this value "C:\Program Files\Oracle\6".

    Hi Dominic,

Are you able to get into BIOS to make changes?

If so, you can try to reset the default settings of the BIOS and check.

NOTE: Change (CMOS) BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

You can also try to remove all external usb devices that can be connected to the system and start-up and see if the system boots.

I try to use the Microsoft Office tool that implement an MSI for 64-bit Office 2010 installation file.  The tool works file and creates the msi file.  I get to the tool by going to the x 64-bit folder on the office 2010 installation disc.

I install a new virtual machine from Windows 7 and tried to use the MSI file to install office 2010 and I get the error:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded is may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program"

If I just click Setup on the office 2010 dvd he moved very well on the same VM window7.

Does anyone have an idea how do to understand why the windows installer keep fails or what he wants?

I suggest that you follow these steps.

    Step 1:

First of all, download and install .net Framework Cleanup Tool to remove selected versions of the .NET Framework on your computer.

    Step 2:

  • How do I know which programs to take off the windows Installer CleanUp list?

    Windows Installer Cleanup of

    * original title - how do I know which programs to take off the windows Installer CleanUp list? I don't want to uninstall or remove a program that I always use currently__ *.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/290301 (MS Office only - replaced by the 'Fix It' utility)
(Note: the Windows CleanUp utility has been replaced by the "Fit It":http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ )

    The Windows Installer Cleanup utility:
It was created to correct software installations that failed during the installation process and leaving a bunch of files (including a file name that ends with an extension .msi (= MicroSoft Installer .msi). For example an installation failed MS Office (note I said "failed").
    See: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA011185721033.aspx

Also if when you installed MS Office you decided at the time you had no need of Power Point and chose not to install it. You find out later you need to make a Power Point presentation, insert the Office CD and try installing PowerPoint and it causes an error.

The tool using Windows Installer Cleanup will remove damaged installation files (located in C:\Windows\Installer). You then install Office and Power Point, once more, as they are not more present in the list of programs in the Add/Remove Control Panel. But at least this time Office and Power Point will install without errors as the Windows Installer Cleanup utility did what it was designed to do.

The unfortunate side effect of the cleanup tool is when you select and delete software that works correctly you then will no longer be able to install this software because it is no longer in the Add/Remove Programs list.

Now as to why there is so many files in the C:\Windows\Installer:
You will find lots of them. MSI files belong to software such as Java, Microsoft .NET Framework software AV, Norton Ghost, file downloaded during a Windows Update session and so on. It would seem that some software will clean up after itself and deletions, this is the file that were in the folder C:\Windows\Installer. Windows Update failure will create and leave the folders and files behind every time that you try to install the update and so you could end up with a large number of files taking up disk space.

It could also be a lot of files (is most needed) orphans.
If you still have the original Windows Installer Cleanup utility, and then by using the msizap (msizap g!) command removes all cached Windows Installer data files that have been orphaned.

  • associate the Windows Installer Windows XP .msp files

    Hello

I need to execute a file .msp (patch for a software) that would be associated with Windows Installer under Win7, but don't natively is not with Windows XP.  If I right click on the file and select 'Open with', the Windows Installer does not appear in the list.  If I browse and try to locate the Windows installation program, I don't know (I did several searches but not prevail).

    Hello

If I remember what I did was to remove the association for PaintShop Pro .msp files should open up PaintShop and then click on file > Preferences > file associations, and then DESELECT .msp format.

To make this work on Win7, you may need to start PaintShop with administrator rights (rather than simply clicking on the shortcut, right-click and select "Run as Administrator" for PaintShop now has the right to change the registry.

If you succeed, then the .msp file will be more associated with PaintShop Pro and should show as a no associated file.  Then, pair it with Windows Installer patch as I mentioned.  When you have finished installing the patch, you may want to reassociate for PaintShop .msp files, if you have graphics files with this extension.

    I hope this works.

  • Is it possible to move the \windows\installer folder? The reason why I ask is because it takes a lot of space and I want to move it to another disk with more space.

The \windows\installer folder takes a lot of space and I want to move it to another drive if possible. Ashwin

No, I don't think. Just about anything in the Windows directory cannot be moved. You will need to find another way to clear disk space. Try to compress your drive hard (if you don't know how, ask).

  • How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive?

How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive, please?  I was going to re - install, then I changed my mind.
Now, every time that I reboot, instead of launching Windows XP Pro, it try to run Windows installation.  The installation program appears as a second menu item under "Windows XP Pro" on the black screen at launch.

How can I remove it from the startup screen and flush it out of my system?

    Any correction, automated for this?

    Thank you.

It is difficult to determine what you did, but the symptoms you describe can be eliminated by editing the boot.ini file (you can also make things really difficult if you make a mistake when you edit the boot.ini file, so be careful).  Will not be "flush out the Windows installation" of your system, but it will stop the menu from appearing at startup time.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Your boot.ini file probably has a second line in the [operating systems] section.  Make sure that you delete only the line that points to the installation routine.
