ThinApp MSI streaming

If you want to deploy your applications with VMware View ThinApp, you have the ability to stream applications to desktop computers. If you want to use this option, you must add ".MSIStreaming=1" to the package.ini and build the app. Then you have the option from within VMware View to stream the application from the network repository. That works fine.

My question is: if I want create an MSI and use the streaming option, but not use VMware View as the deployment method, how can I install the MSI (for registering File types and shortcuts) but still use the ThinApp application that is located on the networkshare? For example, Acrobat Reader.exe, Acrobat Reader.dat and Acrobat Reader.MSI are on a networkshare, I install the MSI on a desktop, using an Active Directory Group Policy for example, and the MSI only registers File types and puts a shortcut on the desktop. The .exe and the .dat stays on the networkshare. This does not work now. It will put the .exe and .dat file on the local desktop. MSIstreaming only works when using VMware View. Can I add a parameter to the install command to make streaming work?

Currently, it is not possible with the .msi file.

    Hello

There are two type of ThinAPP's runtime mode

local mode does not support ThinApp, since the mode of deployment can be live even if network down, we can use it with local mode or what?

I mean that you can install the ThinApp MSI directly. No third-party tools are required to do.

  • ThinApp 7-Zip

I'm trying 7-zip ThinApp.  Everything seems ok during the build process.  I don't get any error and can open the ThinApp in my computer to build very well.  The problem is when I assign to workstations.  Console administration view said it installs fine but when I go to open it, it looks like it didn't settle down completely and gives an error file missing.  Someone has seen this before or know some tricks to get this working?  I can use the built ThinApp MSI and install fine.   I use ThinApp 5.0 and this is not on Windows 7 x 64

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I had to ThinApp the 32-bit version of 7-zip so that it works.

  • Update MSI code

Our company uses a MRP program that should have an installation for each location, we have in our Terminal servers. In other words, they all have the same upgrade code, but I want them to be unique to one another. Basically, I was hoping just to generate my own unique code for these applications, so I can use the function of upgrade msi for all versions of this application, I have create in thinapp. Is it still possible?

    Hello

Yes, you can very well use your own unique GUID. You want to have the same "ProductCode" through all the different versions?

  • Run ThinApp Package via hyperlink?

Is it possible to run an application ThinApp packaged through a hyperlink?  I want my users to be able to visit a web page and then click on a link to start the application.

At this moment I have a hyperlink that points to my package ThinApp .exe file, however when I click on the link, the .exe file is attempted to be executed, but I think it's having issues finding / interacting with the .dat associate file which is located with the .exe file.

Is there a best practice to achieve this?

    Thank you!

You can run a ThinApp package since a hyperlink if it has a .dat with the EXE file. Either, you will need to download the .dat to the same location (temporary folder) of the ThinApp EXE. Or you can publish the hyperlink for the ThinApp MSI that installs the ThinApp when the user click on the hyperlink and say 'run '.

On the other hand, ThinApp supports running from a network share if you want to try.

  • Add Thindirect to IE6 Thinapp package

    Hello

I have a small problem, but I don't how I can solve it...

I have a package with several parameters thinapp IE6 but thindirect does not turn on.

If I want to add Thindirect to this package, how is it possible?

    Thank you all

Just to add, you must either install IE6 ThinApp MSI or save the ThinApp IE6 use utility Thinreg to see the redirect. Without having to install the MSI or ThinReg, you do not find the redirect occurs.

For example, install IE6 ThinApp MSI, open native IE (IE7 or 8, for example) and type a URL in the ThinDirect.txt file. You will see that the native IE closes and virtual EI (ThinApp) opens in a new window.

  • Differentiation between virtual App and Native application

    Hello team,

Wanted to know how the difference between a virtual application and the local physical application. Y at - it any key or variable registry system available which can help identify the virtual when its application was managed by the end user during execution. Are there any files and registry system for virtual applications?

For example: from online Cameyo/ThinApp/spoon streaming server, I downloaded firefox.exe virtualized and thus downloaded mozilla's physical firefox.exe and installed (Version remains the same for the application). For physical firefox.exe there is the registry key or a variable system available.

How about the application virtual firefox.exe, will there be an entry in the system registry or files during its execution?

If Yes please share the details.

You have different ways to determine if the application was packaged with ThinApp.

    • When you run a ThinApp application, you have the popup appears above the system tray in the lower right corner with the name of the application and "vmware".

    • When you have installed the application with the MSI or save it with the thinreg utility, you have created registry keys:

      • If installed by user: HKCU\Software\Thinstall
      • If installed by computer: HKLM\Software\Thinstall
    • A sandbox is also created for the application during its first execution in %APPDATA%\Thinstall (default location).
    • If you run the package with the setting -ThinstallVersion. For example, in a CMD prompt type: package.exe - ThinstallVersion.

You will get the ThinApp version used to build the package.

Alternatively, you can use the ThinApp MSI that registers the ThinApp automatically when you install the MSI file.

  • Error 1925 you don't have sufficient privileges to perform this installation...

I created an IE7 thinapp msi some of our users need to use a particular web application. From the test to the deployment, the following error message appears: Error 1925: you don't have sufficient privileges to complete this installation for all users of the machine. Log in as administrator and then try to install again. I have the MSIRequireElevatedPrivileges set to 0. Is there anything else I need to set to allow anyone to install this application? Thank you.

  • Server reboots

Let's say I have packaging an application that requires a reboot. ThinApp will take it out of the game once I have create a msi file and install it on the server? Or will the ThinApp pkg restart my server.

While you are in the installation and configure the section "Setup Capture"... ThinApp will automatically load the next time you start... on however several reboots are needed.  It will be active as long as the changes are made and the application is properly installed.  You can then press next and continue the process.

Regarding a ThinApp MSI... the MSI does not require a reboot during installation.  do not forget that it is unpacked only data in a folder, putting some shortcuts in and a few registry changes.

  • ThinApp 4.6 cannot generate the msi package

ThinApp 4.6 question, I can't undestand why, but I am unable to create the .msi package. The error comes at the end of the phase of construction for any application! no problem with 4.5, but you now I need the functionality of Streaming... so I'm stuck.

creating the file .exe like no problem, but the creation of the .msi fails with the error "cannot find destination path /bin/whatever.msi" (and the .msi file created is obviously unusable)

    Any suggestions?

@kkware - excuses... did not read your message first.  This looks like an AV problem almost.  That would be my first guess.

If you have any software firewall or AV, can you delete those virtual machine (take a snapshot of the VM) or turn them off temporarily?
